RESUMEN

Azithromycin traditional formulations possesses poor oral bioavailability which necessitates development of new formulation with enhanced bioavailability of the drug. The objective of current research was to explore the kinetics and safety profile of the newly developed azithromycin lipid-based nanoformulation (AZM-NF). In the in-vitro study of kinetics profiling, azithromycin (AZM) release was assessed using dialysis membrane enclosing equal quantity of either AZM-NF, oral suspension of azithromycin commercial product (AZM-CP), or azithromycin pure drug (AZM-PD) in simulated intestinal fluid. The ex-vivo study was performed using rabbit intestinal segments in physiological salts solution in a tissue bath. The in-vivo study was investigated by oral administration of AZM to rabbits while taking blood samples at predetermined time-intervals, followed by HPLC analysis. The toxicity study was conducted in rats to observe histopathological changes in rat's internal organs. In the in-vitro study, maximum release was 95.38 ± 4.58% for AZM-NF, 72.79 ± 8.85% for AZM-CP, and 46.13 ± 8.19% for AZM-PD (p < 0.0001). The ex-vivo investigation revealed maximum permeation of 85.68 ± 5.87 for AZM-NF and 64.88 ± 5.87% for AZM-CP (p < 0.001). The in-vivo kinetics showed Cmax 0.738 ± 0.038, and 0.599 ± 0.082 µg/ml with Tmax of 4 and 2 h for AZM-NF and AZM-CP respectively (p < 0.01). Histopathological examination revealed compromised myocardial fibers integrity by AZM-CP only, liver and kidney showed mild aberrations by both formulations, with no remarkable changes in the rest of studied organs. The results showed that AZM-NF exhibited significantly enhanced bioavailability with comparative safer profile to AZM-CP investigated.

RESUMEN

Recent progress in synthetic strategies, analysis techniques, and computational modeling assist researchers to develop more active catalysts including metallic clusters to single-atom active sites (SACs). Metal coordinated N-doped carbons (M-N-C) are the most auspicious, with a large number of atomic sites, markedly performing for a series of electrochemical reactions. This perspective sums up the latest innovative and computational comprehension, while giving credit to earlier/pioneering work in carbonaceous assembly materials towards robust electrocatalytic activity for proton exchange membrane fuel cells via inclusive performance assessment of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). M-Nx -Cy are exclusively defined active sites for ORR, so there is a unique possibility to intellectually design the relatively new catalysts with much improved activity, selectivity, and durability. Moreover, some SACs structures provide better performance in fuel cells testing with long-term durability. The efforts to understand the connection in SACs based M-Nx -Cy moieties and how these relate to catalytic ORR performance are also conveyed. Owing to comprehensive practical application in the field, this study has covered very encouraging aspects to the current durability status of M-N-C based catalysts for fuel cells followed by degradation mechanisms such as macro-, microdegradation, catalytic poisoning, and future challenges.

OBJECTIVE: To check the prevalence of malaria in a specific geographical region. METHODS: The prospective study was conducted in Malakand, Pakistan, from January to December 2017, and comprised suspected malaria patients. Blood samples were collected during dry, rainy, and end-of-rainy season, with symptoms of malaria. Thick and thin film of blood were Giemsa-stained, stored in a secured slide box and were reconfirmed by microscopy expert at the Laboratory of District Head Quarter Hospital Batkhela and Tehsil Head Quarter Hospital Dargai in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Graph Pad 5 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Of 1123 suspected patients, 300(26.7%) tested positive for malaria. Of the positive cases, 296(98.6%) were Plasmodium vivax and 4(1.3%) Plasmodium falciparum. No mixed-species infection and no case of Plasmodium ovale and Plasmodium malariae were reported. Malaria was higher in those aged <16 followed by those in the 33-50 group and the least in 51-80 years group (p>0.05). Males were more infected than females (p>0.05). Individuals screened in the rainy season numbered more than those in the dry and post-rain season (p<0.05).. CONCLUSIONS: Malaria was found to be highly prevalent in the rainy season.

Low cost and an easy technique for the synthesis of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) was developed. Glucosamine was used to stabilize palladium precursor (PdCl2) into palladium nanoparticles. Several analytical techniques were used for the determination of morphology, crystalline structure; size, capping, and composition of synthesize palladium nanoparticles. The UV-visible spectroscopy SPR peak (Surface Plasmon Resonance) at 284 nm revealed synthesis of PdNPs. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies proved the elemental composition and crystalline structure of the synthesized palladium nanoparticles respectively. The average particle sizes (5.5 nm) were obtained by using the 1 M glucosamine solution, with a fixed amount of PdCl2 (4 mM). Moreover, the as synthesized PdNPs was evaluated against Gram negative bacterial E. which shows tremendous antibacterial activity as compare to tobramycin standard antibiotics. It's mechanistically found that PdNPs damage cell membrane and caused imbalance of metabolism system of the cell as a result production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Thus, these finding revealed that cells become leaky and all organelles come out from cells, finally caused death of the E. coli. Addition, the as prepared PdNPs also showed excellent catalytic activities toward reduction of methylene blue and 4-nitrophenol.Thus, glucosamine mediated PdNPs having dual functions biomedical as well as intoxicating catalyst for industries.

Sedum adenotrichum (SA) has been traditionally used against various ailments due to the presence of several important phenolic compounds. This study provides a scientific basis for the hepatoprotective and nephroprotective potentials of Sedum adenotrichum in paracetamol-induced toxicity in rabbits. Methanolic extract of Sedum adenotrichum along with paracetamol was administered orally to rabbits alone or in combination with paracetamol for 2 weeks. Results showed that paracetamol-induced toxicity was correlated with a significant change in biochemical, hematological parameters, and loss in body weight of rabbits, and the curative effect of SA methanolic extract was found. Liver and kidney histological studies showed significant induced toxicity of paracetamol and correspondence restoration power of SA methanolic extract. The levels of reduced glutathione, radical scavenging activity, and lipid peroxidation in the liver were restored to normal by the methanolic extract of SA. This study confirmed the protective effect of SA methanolic extract against hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity caused by paracetamol. Biochemical analysis of the methanolic extract of SA confirmed the presence of bioactive phenolic compounds which have hepatic and nephroprotective potentials.

Pakistan, a low and middle-income country (LMIC), faces challenges in providing sustainable health care to its population due to inadequate financing, weak healthcare infrastructure, and insufficient health human resources. These challenges are not unique to Pakistan and are faced by many LMICs globally. In this paper, we aim to identify key strategies for achieving sustainable healthcare systems in Pakistan and to draw lessons for LMICs globally, keeping in view the healthcare reforms in Pakistan. We conducted a comprehensive literature review of existing policies and practices related to healthcare financing, service delivery, health information and communication technologies (ICTs), governance and leadership, and health human resources in Pakistan and other LMICs. We also reviewed relevant global policies and frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the World Health Organization's (WHO) health system strengthening guidelines. To achieve sustainable healthcare systems in Pakistan, we recommend comprehensive healthcare financing policies, including increasing budgetary allocations for health, social health protection through universal coverage, and supporting health and economic development processes. Service delivery can be improved through restructuring public health facilities, incorporating behavioral and social health determinants into primary health care, aligning healthcare delivery with the community, and promoting collaborative leadership between the public and private sectors. The use of ICT can be expanded by implementing e-health policies, disseminating authentic public health information, and enabling telemedicine services. Effective healthcare governance and leadership can be promoted through meritorious, transparent, and accountable reforms, stable healthcare structures at all community levels, and appropriate health policy and organizational frameworks. Finally, strengthening health human resources can be achieved through compliant policy implementation and revisions in laws and policies governing medical teaching institutions. Achieving sustainable healthcare systems in Pakistan and LMICs globally requires comprehensive strategies for healthcare financing, service delivery, health ICT, governance and leadership, and health human resources. By drawing on global policies and frameworks and lessons from other LMICs, Pakistan can overcome its healthcare challenges and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

Introduction: Asthma is one of the common major non-communicable respiratory diseases, and is associated with a lower health-related quality of life (QOL). Poor inhalation is a significant contributing factor to poor control of asthma. Community pharmacist has a vital role to play in assisting patients and ultimately improving their asthma conditions through the use of inhalers. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of "pre" and "post" educational intervention by a community pharmacist within a community pharmacy on asthma patients' QOL, inhaler technique, and adherence to therapy during the endemic phase of COVID-19. Methods: A "pre" and "post" interventional study was performed at a community pharmacy in the city of Mardan, Pakistan, in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients were divided into two groups, ie control and pharmacist-led education groups. After assigning patients to both groups, the baseline data were collected and followed for one month to compare the reduction in errors in the use of inhalers, QOL, and adherence to therapy. A paired sample t-test was performed, keeping a p-value <0.05 as statistical significance. Results: A total of 60 patients were recruited, majority (58.3%) were females, and 28.3% were from the age group of 46-55 years old. A statistically significant difference was observed in the pre- and post-education QOL score among patients in the pharmacist-led education group, from a mean ± SD at pre-education of 40.23±10.03 to a mean±SD at post-education of 48.10±5.68. Similarly, a statistically significant difference was observed for the correct use of inhalers, ie MDIs and DPIs. Similarly, a statistically significant difference was observed in the adherence status between pre-education and post-education by pharmacists. Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed a positive impact of community pharmacist-led education on QOL, inhaler technique, and adherence to therapy among patients with asthma.

INTRODUCTION: Fluoroquinolones (FQs) is a distinct class of antibiotics which are prescribed and used quite frequently worldwide, despite the box warnings (BW) issued by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Literature has shown in spite of BWs related to FQs there is minimal impact on health care professionals (HCPs) prescribing habits, potentially attributing towards limited and insufficient awareness. In Pakistan, FQs are mostly prescribed antibiotics for microbial treatments, therefore the purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about the safety profile, use, and BW of FQs among HCPs working in Pakistan. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was undertaken among the HCPs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan from October 2022 to December 2022. A validated questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of HCPs regarding FQs, its safety profile and BW. A random convenient sample technique was used while recruiting HCPs in this study. As the HCPs comprised physicians, dentists, pharmacist and nurses, all were approached in person and the study objective was fully elaborated and explained to them. The statistic test like: one-way ANOVA, independent-t test, multivariate logistic regression were used keeping the p-value < 0.05 as statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of n = 250 HCPs were approached, of which n = 186 HCPs completed the questionnaire with a response rate of 74.4%. FQs prescribing pattern was only assessed among the prescribers, i.e., physicians and dentists (39/186). The mean knowledge score for indications was 5.29 ± 3.05, while for the adverse effects was 7.70 ± 2.61. The highest score for knowledge for indications and adverse effect score was achieved by physicians followed by dentist. The mean knowledge score for the BW was 3.46 ± 2.93 and among the HCPs for the BW of FQs, 20.4% of the HCPs had appropriate knowledge score (score ≥ 50%). The knowledge score was significantly higher in males (p = 0.039), dentists (p = 0.001), HCPs having master/specialization level of education (p = 0.003), HCPs working in government sector hospitals (p = 0.010) and secondary care hospitals (p = 0.001) while the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HCPs working in primary care hospital (OR: 6.2) and secondary care hospital (OR: 20.3) were associated with the tendency to achieve 50% or above knowledge score. CONCLUSION:  Findings of this study reveals the unsatisfactory knowledge of HCPs regarding the safety profile, use, and BW of FQs putting patients at heightened risks of FQs associated AEs. Therefore, it is crucial to implement a national antimicrobial stewardship program, seminars and lectures aimed at continuously updating the knowledge of HCPs, regardless of their specialties, and effectively restrict the misuse of antimicrobial and disseminate FDA BWs in clinical practice.

Background: Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of premature morbidity and mortality globally, causing over eight million deaths per year. One of the best approaches to reduce smoking-related deaths is to encourage future health-care professionals in tobacco control programs. Objectives: To assess the smoking prevalence, secondhand smoke exposure, attitudes toward tobacco control, and smoking cessation knowledge and associated factors among pharmacy and medical students in a private university in Malaysia. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted at two campuses of a private University in Malaysia, and the data were collected online using the Global Health Professionals Students Survey questionnaire and analyzed using IBM-SPSS Version 20. Results: The overall smoking prevalence was 1.6% (P = 0.009). The exposure to secondhand smoke was 21% and 39% at home and in public places, respectively. About 92% of respondents had a good attitude toward tobacco control, whereas 53.4% had good smoking cessation knowledge. However, only 39.4% of the respondents had received formal smoking cessation training. Logistic regression revealed that significant predictors toward tobacco control are the ban of tobacco sales to adolescents, ban on the advertising of tobacco products, ban of smoking in restaurants, and obtaining a specific training on cessation techniques. Conclusions: The prevalence of smoking among pharmacy and medical students was low, but exposure to secondhand smoke was higher. Most of the respondents had a positive attitude and good knowledge of smoking cessation. However, future training needs to be conducted among upcoming health-care professionals to act as a role model for community transformation.

OBJECTIVES: Limited treatment options are available for advanced stages of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Moreover, patients' relapse after a short remission period, which prompts them to identify a potent drug with the least toxicity. An Unani herbal formulation, Itrifal-e-Aftimoon (IEA) is used for certain neurological disorders, however, its antitumor potential has not been reported yet in any malignancy, including CML. METHODS: The aqueous extract of IEA was characterized by HPLC/LC-MS and used alone or in combination with standard drug, imatinib in CML cell lines (K562, KU812) in vitro to assess its effect on cancer-associated parameters such as cytotoxicity, cell cycle, apoptosis, oxidative stress, inflammation, angiogenesis, and certain signalling pathways. RESULTS: LC-MS characterization of IEA showed the presence of antitumor compounds including catechin and caffeic acid. Treatment with IEA caused cytotoxicity and arrested cells in the sub-G0/G1 phase. Subsequent assays confirmed apoptosis-mediated cell death with mitochondrial membrane depolarization and alleviation of oxidative stress. IEA abrogates IL-6, VEGF, angiopoietin-2, and alters Th1/Th2 cytokines. IEA potentiated the effect of imatinib even at lower doses by affecting FAK/STAT/Akt/ERK pathways. CONCLUSION: IEA possesses antitumor potential against CML and increases the efficacy of imatinib when used in combination, suggesting utilization of IEA as an adjuvant therapy for better management of CML in the future.

OBJECTIVE: The present study was envisioned to develop Sunoon Zard a traditional Unani toothpowder into toothpaste form along with its physicochemical standardization and evaluation of anti microbial activity against oral pathogens by in vitro study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Herbal extracts based powder was redesigned to toothpaste as per the Pharmacopoeial guidelines and its pharmaceutical evaluation was conceded as per the Indian Government Tooth Paste Specifications. In vitro study was done to evaluate the antibacterial activity by using agar well diffusion method against dental pathogens. Zone of Inhibition was taken as the end parameter against the test pathogens after appropriate incubation period. It was compared with Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) used as solvent (0.01%) as Negative control whereas Ciprofloxacin 5µg/disk (standard antibiotic for gram positive) and Gentamicin 10µg/disk (standard antibiotic for gram negative) were used as Positive control. All the experiment was done as per the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Guidelines in triplicates. RESULTS: Sunoon Zard was developed into toothpaste form and its physicochemical values were found to in consonance with the optimum values as mentioned in Bureau of Indian Standard. In vitro study of the Sunoon Zard toothpaste was found to be effective against various dental pathogens with specific sensitivity with good zone of inhibition towards gram negative bacterial strains viz. P.aeruginosa and K.pneuomoniae while among gram positive a significant inhibition was found against C.xerosis and S.viridans. CONCLUSION: The developed toothpaste from classical Unani herbal tooth powder will provide the better patient compliance. Moreover its scientific screening which exhibited potential antibacterial activity in controlling pathogenic oral microflora compared to the standard drugs also revalidated the claim of Unani Physicians that the Sunoon Zard is quite effective in various oro-dental disorders.

Worldwide, bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is the greatest challenge in public health care. To overcome the issue, metal-based nanoparticles were extensively used as an alternative to traditional antibiotics. However, their unstable nature limits their use. In the present study a very simple, environmentally friendly, one-pot synthesis method that avoids the use of organic solvents has been proposed to design stable, novel nanocomposites. Formulation was done by mixing biogenic copper oxide (CuO) nanomaterial with glycerol and phospholipids isolated from egg yolk in an appropriate ratio at optimum conditions. Characterization was done using dynamic light scattering DLS, Zeta potential, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further, its antibacterial activity was evaluated against the extended-spectrum beta-lactamase strains based on zone of inhibition and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) indices. Results from this study have demonstrated the formulation of stable nanocomposites with a zeta potential of 34.9 mV. TEM results indicated clear dispersed particles with an average of 59.3 ± 5 nm size. Furthermore, HPLC analysis of the egg yolk extract exhibits the presence of phospholipids in the sample and has significance in terms of stability. The newly formed nanocomposite has momentous antibacterial activity with MIC 62.5 µg/mL. The results suggest that it could be a good candidate for drug delivery in terms of bactericidal therapeutic applications.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD)-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) contributes to poor quality of life, including reduced sleep quality and poor sleep quality is a source of patient stress and is linked to lower health-related quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of zolpidem 10 mg and acupressure therapy on foot acupoints to improve the sleep quality and overall quality of life among hemodialysis patients suffering from CKD-aP. METHOD: A multicenter, prospective, randomized, parallel-design, open label interventional study to estimate the effectiveness of zolpidem (10 mg) oral tablets versus acupressure on sleep quality and quality of life in patients with CKD-aP on hemodialysis. A total of 58 hemodialysis patients having sleep disturbance due to CKD-aP completed the entire 8-week follow-up. The patients were divided into a control (acupressure) group of 28 patients and an intervention (zolpidem) group of 30 patients. RESULTS: A total of 58 patients having CKD-aP and sleep disturbance were recruited. In the control group there was a reduction in the PSQI score with a mean ±â€ŠSD from 12.28 ±â€Š3.59 to 9.25 ±â€Š3.99, while in the intervention group the reduction in PSQI score with a mean ±â€ŠSD was from 14.73 ±â€Š4.14 to 10.03 ±â€Š4.04 from baseline to endpoint. However, the EQ5D index score and EQ-visual analogue scale (VAS) at baseline for the control group with a mean ±â€ŠSD was 0.49 ±â€Š0.30 and 50.17 ±â€Š8.65, respectively, while for the intervention group the values were 0.62 ±â€Š0.26 and 47.17 ±â€Š5.82, respectively. The mean EQ5D index score in the control group improved from 0.49 ±â€Š0.30 to 0.53 ±â€Š0.30, but in the intervention group there was no statistical improvement in mean EQ5D index score from 0.62 ±â€Š0.26 to 0.62 ±â€Š0.27 from baseline to week 8. The EQ 5D improved in both groups and the EQ-VAS score was 2.67 points higher at week 8 as compared to baseline in the control group, while in the intervention group the score was 3.33 points higher at week 8 as compared to baseline. Comparing with baseline, the PSQI scores were significantly reduced after week 4 and week 8 (P =  < .001). Furthermore, at the end of the study, the PSQI scores were significantly higher in the control as compared to the intervention group (P = .012). CONCLUSION: An improvement in sleep quality and quality of life among CKD-aP patients on hemodialysis has been observed in both the control and intervention groups. Zolpidem and acupressure safety profiling showed no severe adverse effect other that drowsiness, nausea and daytime sleeping already reported in literature of zolpidem.

BACKGROUND: The Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence (FTND) is the most widely used scale for assessing nicotine dependence on conventional tobacco cigarettes (TCGs). But the FTND does not evaluate the subject's nicotine dependence to electronic cigarette (EC). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to develop and assess an equivalent modified FTND scale that measures the nicotine dependency via EC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The investigator developed the equivalent modified FTND scale that scores identical to the original scale, that is, 0-10. The developed scale piloted among 15 EC single users, that is, use only EC verified by carbon monoxide (CO) level of <8ppm. The assessment of the scale was done among 69 EC single users and observed for 1 year to determine their nicotine status. RESULTS: The modified scale revealed an acceptable Cronbach α value of 0.725. Further test-retest reliability of the scale showed a satisfactory Spearman's rank correlation coefficient value of 0.730 (P > 0.05). A 1-year observation showed that of 69 single users, 11 single users completely stopped nicotine intake, 24 remained as EC single users, 15 shifted to dual-use, and 19 relapsed to TCG. Surprisingly, the EC users who completely stopped nicotine intake after 1 year had a low average nicotine dependence value of 3 that was measured by the modified FTND scale at the baseline. CONCLUSION: The modified FTND scale precisely identifies the physical dependence to nicotine via EC. Therefore, as per this study results the modified FTND scale can be applied in any EC-related studies to assess nicotine dependency via EC.

The designing of new antibacterial agents with high and long-lasting activities are urgently needed in order to cope with the fast-emerging bacterial resistance. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO) have shown a significant promise as broad-spectrum antibacterial agents, and are efficient material in compromising bacterial membrane stability that leads to an increased cell permeability to nano-products. However, further engineering is required to improve their biological activities and to minimize their toxicity to healthy cells. In an attempt to resolve this issue, two semiconductor materials, ZnO and selenium (Se), were fabricated into a unique structural composite by a newly developed facile green method, and the designed composite was applied as an antibacterial nanomedicine. The developed methodology involves the initial preparation of ZnO, followed by its fabrication with Se at different temperatures (70 °C to 95 °C). Our experimental data showed that well defined interpenetrated crystalline Se network on ZnO (ZnO-Se) can be obtained at 80 °C for 180 min. The as-prepared ZnO-Se showed promising results in inhibiting the challenged bacterial strains under light irradiation (visible light) as compared to free ZnO. The enhanced biocidal property of ZnO-Se could be ascribed to its improved light-harvesting ability for sustainable induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and an active contact killing mechanism. Thus, ZnO-Se composite with a novel architecture could be a promising material in the treatment of bacterial infections by a mutual antibacterial synergy from the incorporated elements. Interestingly, the ZnO-Se has the ability to scavenge the overproduction of hydroxyl radicals, thus protecting the healthy cells from oxidative damage.

Noble metal/metal oxide nanocomposites are pet and spellbound candidates in biomedical and catalytic fields because of their awestruck properties. This report put forward the facile and environmentally friendly fabrication of Ag/Fe2O3 nanocomposite using the eqeous extract of Algaia Monozyga leaves. The Ag/ Fe2O3 bimetallic nanocomposite was prepared using AgNO3, FeCl3 (anhydrous) and plant leaves extract as a natural source for reduction and stabilization of this nanocomposite. We prepared a separate solution of Silver and Iron salts and upon addition of this solution to the plant extract, the conversion of colour to brown appears within 10 min at constant stirring at 350 rpm. To confirm the synthesis of nanocomposite, UV-vis spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDX and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy were used. The as prepared nanocomposite was used for photocatalytic activity in degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) in the presence of light which shows effective photocatalytic activity. The antimicrobial activities were also determined for nanocomposite which were found to be efficient against human pathogenic multidrug resistant bacteria. The Ag/Fe2O3 nanocomposite significantly preventing the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, E.coli QH4 and Pseudomonas putida with zones of inhibition 23 (±0.5), 21 (±0.4) and 19 (±0.4) mm, respectively.The eco-benignly synthesized Ag/Fe2O3 nanocomposite could be a desired material for efficient remediation of toxic organic pollutants and microbes.

Iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe2O3NPs) are an interested and attractive area of research as they have numerous effective environmental and biomedical applications. Herein we have reported a simple and eco-benign synthesis Fe2O3NPs using Tamarix aphylla extract. The extract of the Tamarix aphylla acts both as a reducing and capping agent which leads to the fast and successful eco-benign synthesis of Fe2O3NPs.UV/Vis spectroscopy, XRD, EDX, SEM and TEM techniques were used to characterize and explore different features of Fe2O3NPs. UV/Vis studies showed asharppeak at 390 nm due to surface plasmon resonance absorption of Fe2O3NPs. XRD studies indicated that Fe2O3NPs were crystalline in nature. Structural features, elemental composition and geometry of Fe2O3NPswere confirmed by SEM, EDX and TEM. The as synthesized Fe2O3NPs showed efficient efficacy to degrade 100% of Methylene blue (MB) dye by 4 mg/25 ml MB and revealed 90% scavenging of the more stable DPPH free radical(1 mg/ml). Furthermore, Fe2O3NPs showed excellent antimicrobial activity against pathogenic multidrug resistant bacterial strains. The results of the present study explored the potential reducing, capping property of Tamarix aphylla extract, photocatalytic and biomedical applications of eco-benignly synthesized Fe2O3NPs which could be an alternative material for effective remediation of lethal organic pollutants and microbes.

Metal nanoparticles, synthesized using Phyto-constituents are the most economically and environmentally benign materials ever. Biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from three fractions of Arisaema flavum tuber extract were synthesized and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, XRD (X-rays diffraction), FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and EDX (Energy dispersive Microscopy). XRD pattern show the face centred cubic crystalline (Fcc) structure of AgNPs. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of different Polyphenolic compounds capping the AgNps. UV-visible spectroscopy result confirmed the presence of Ag because of the particular surface plasmon Resonance (SPR) in the area of 400-430 nm. The electron microscope studies revealed the formation of spherical AgNPs with diameter ranging from 12 nm to 20 nm. Strong signals of AgNPs were confirmed with EDX analysis. The antibacterial properties of the AgNPs prepared with various extracts were tested against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Which showed significant antibacterial activity against all the multidrug resistant bacterial strains and especially multidrug resistant engineered E.ColiQH4. AgNPs synthesized by methanolic, Ethyl Acetate and aqueous Extracts of Areseama Flavum exhibited significant Photocatalytic activity to reduce methylene blue. Small size, spherical shape and high dispersion are the key properties due to which the AgNPs are having significant biological and photocatalytic activity. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report of biogenic AgNPs regarding antibacterial activity against multidrug resistant Engineered E.Coli QH4.

The development of eco-benign experimental procedures for the synthesis of nanomaterials is a fundamental developing branch of green nanotechnology. In this paper, green synthetic route was followed to synthesize novel Au@Fe2O3nanocomposite using Citrus sinensis fruit extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The as synthesized Au@Fe2O3nanocomposite was successfully characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FT1R) spectrophotometry and Zeta potential. UV-vis spectroscopy showed two SPR peaks for Fe2O3 and coated Au at 290 and 520 nm respectively. XRD confirmed the crystallinity of Au@Fe2O3. Au@Fe2O3 nanocomposite showed better antioxidant activity to effectively scavenge DPPH. The Au@Fe2O3 has been also tested for antibacterial activity which showed an effective antibacterial activity against multi drug resistant E.coli and Bacillus subtilis. Furthermore, Au@Fe2O3 also demonstrated better photo catalytic activity for methylene blue (MB) degradation. We proposed that the existence of organic acids (citric acids) also played a significant role in the stabilization of Au@Fe2O3, and plant (Citrus sinensis Var Kozan yerly) containing such component may be more effective for the green synthesis of Au@Fe2O3 nanocomposite. The findings of this study prove the overwhelming therapeutic and photocatalytic potential of bio-inspired Au@Fe2O3nanocomposite which can be a novel candidate for the effective remediation of microbes and toxic organic pollutants.

Graphene-based materials have attracted a significant attention in constructing hybrid systems for drug delivery with enhanced antimicrobial activities. In our work, we demonstrated the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on graphene oxide (GO) using tobramycin (TOB), an aminoglycoside antibiotic, as reducing and decorating agent. The TOB decorated GO AgNPs (TOB-GO-Ag) composite was used as an antibacterial agent against multi-drug resistant Gram-negative E-coli (BL21 DE3). The reversal of surface potential from -30 mV (GO) to +20 mV confirms the successful reduction of GO by TOB. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopic (HRTEM) analyses confirmed the formation of uniformly distributed AgNPs on the reduced GO with an approximate particle size of 5 nm. The as-synthesized nanocomposite displayed significant antibacterial activity as compared to pure AgNPs and TOB. The positively charged TOB-GO-Ag interacts with the negatively charged E. coli membrane and inhibit bacterial growth by the antibacterial actions of the released silver, GO and tobramycin from the TOB-GO-Ag composite. The significant loss of bacterial membrane potential from -52 ±â€¯2 mV (control) to -2 ±â€¯1 mV (treated) indicates a severe cell wall damage caused by TOB-GO-Ag composite. Furthermore, fluorescence study also demonstrated a severe membrane disruption in bacterial cells treated with TOB-GO-Ag composite as compared to pure AgNPs and GO. In conclusion, the development of such hybrid systems would help in enhancing the efficacy of available drugs and eradicating the emerging bacterial resistance.
