RESUMEN

The synthesis of selenium and tellurium core-modified carbaporphyrinogens was carried out by the reaction of functional selenophene/tellurophene diols with azulene or a benzitripyrrane in the presence of acid. The products were obtained in moderate yields and were characterized by using 1H and 13C NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR, CV, and HRMS spectroscopic techniques. Further, oxidation of the obtained core-modified carbaporphyrinogens in the presence of DDQ in CHCl3 afforded the corresponding carbaporphyrins in good yields. Benziporphyrins showed no indication of a ring current or macrocyclic aromaticity as confirmed by using proton NMR spectroscopy, but the addition of TFA gave rise to the formation of weakly diatropic dications.

RESUMEN

Rapid industrialization and agricultural development have resulted in the accumulation of a variety of harmful contaminants in water resources. Thus, various approaches such as adsorption, photocatalytic degradation and methods for sensing water contaminants have been developed to solve the problem of water pollution. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of coordination networks comprising organic-inorganic hybrid porous materials having organic ligands attached to inorganic metal ions/clusters via coordination bonds. MOFs represent an emerging class of materials for application in water remediation owing to their versatile structural and chemical characteristics, such as well-ordered porous structures, large specific surface area, structural diversity, and tunable sites. The present review is focused on recent advances in various MOFs for application in water remediation via the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of water contaminants. The sensing of water pollutants using MOFs via different approaches, such as luminescence, electrochemical, colorimetric, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic techniques, is also discussed. The high porosity and chemical tunability of MOFs are the main driving forces for their widespread applications, which have huge potential for their commercial use.

RESUMEN

Hydrogels are water-insoluble, hydrophilic, cross-linked, three-dimensional networks of polymer chains having the ability to swell and absorb water but do not dissolve in it, that comprise the major difference between gels and hydrogels. The mechanical strength, physical integrity and solubility are offered by the crosslinks. The different applications of hydrogels can be derived based on the methods of their synthesis, response to different stimuli, and their different kinds. Hydrogels are highly biocompatible and have properties similar to human tissues that make it suitable to be used in various biomedical applications, including drug delivery and tissue engineering. The role of hydrogels in cancer therapy is highly emerging in recent years. In the present review, we highlighted different methods of synthesis of hydrogels and their classification based on different parameters. Distinctive applications of hydrogels in the treatment of cancer are also discussed.

RESUMEN

Zika Virus (ZIKV) belongs to the class of flavivirus that can be transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. The number of Zika virus caused cases of acute infections, neurological disorders and congenital microcephaly are rapidly growing and therefore, in 2016, the World Health Organization declared a global "Public Health Emergency of International Concern". Anti-ZIKV therapeutic and vaccine development strategies are growing worldwide in recent years, however, no specific and safe treatment is available till date to save the human life. Currently, development of peptide therapeutics against ZIKV has attracted rising attention on account of their high safety concern and low development cost, in comparison to small therapeutic molecules and antibody-based anti-viral drugs. In present review, an overview of ZIKV inhibition by peptide-based inhibitors including E-protein derived peptides, antimicrobial peptides, frog skin peptides and probiotic peptides has been discussed. Peptides inhibitors have also been reported to act against NS5, NS2B-NS3 protease and proteasome in order to inhibit ZIKV infection. Recent advances in peptide-based therapeutics and vaccine have been reviewed and their future promise against ZIKV infections has been explored.

RESUMEN

The most important aspect of controlling COVID-19 is its timely diagnosis. Molecular diagnostic tests target the detection of any of the following markers such as the specific region of the viral genome, certain enzyme, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, the structural proteins such as surface spike glycoprotein, nucleocapsid protein, envelope protein, or membrane protein of SARS-CoV-2. This review highlights the underlying mechanisms, advancements, and clinical limitations for each of the diagnostic techniques authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (USA). Significance of diagnosis triaging, information on specimen collection, safety considerations while handling, transport, and storage of samples have been highlighted to make medical and research community more informed so that better clinical strategies are developed. We have discussed here the clinical manifestations and hospital outcomes along with the underlying mechanisms for several drugs administered to COVID-19 prophylaxis. In addition to favourable clinical outcomes, the challenges, and the future directions of management of COVOD-19 are highlighted. Having a comprehensive knowledge of the diagnostic approaches of SARS-CoV-2, and its pathogenesis will be of great value in designing a long-term strategy to tackle COVID-19.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Quinolines represent an important class of bioactive molecules which are present in various synthetic drugs, biologically active natural compounds and pharmaceuticals. Quinolines find their potential applications in various chemical and biomedical fields. Thereby, the demand for more efficient and simple methodologies for the synthesis of quinolines is growing rapidly. OBJECTIVE: The green one-pot Friedlander Synthesis of Functionalized Quinolines has been demonstrated by using graphene oxide as a carbocatalyst. METHOD: The graphene oxide catalyzed condensation reaction of 2-aminoaryl carbonyl compounds with different cyclic/ acyclic/ aromatic carbonyl compounds in methanol at 70°C affords different quinoline derivatives. RESULTS: The reaction has been examined in different protic and aprotic solvents and the best yield of quinoline is observed in methanol at 70°C. CONCLUSION: The present method of quinoline synthesis offers various advantages over other reported methods such as short reaction time, high yield of product, recycling of catalyst and simple separation procedure. The graphene oxide carbocatalyst can be easily recovered from the reaction mixture by centrifugation and then can be reused several times without any significant loss in its activity.

RESUMEN

Calixphyrins are hybrid macrocycles that contain both sp2- and sp3-hybridized carbon atoms and hence bear analogy to both porphyrins and calixpyrroles. Due to the presence of sp3-hybridized carbon atoms, π-conjugation is disrupted in calixphyrins, which leads to conformational flexibility. Hence, these molecules find a use in anion binding, host-guest chemistry and metal-coordination chemistry. During the last decade, studies on calixphyrins have been a topic of wide interest to researchers. Various functionalities have been introduced to the structure of calixphyrins, leading to the development of expanded calixphyrins, core-modified calixphyrins and N-confused calixphyrins with diverse applications. This review outlines the detailed historical origin of the synthesis of calixphyrins with emphasis on current research and development in this area. The modular syntheses of normal calixphyrins, expanded calixphyrins, core-modified calixphyrins and N-confused calixphyrins are also discussed, along with their applicative aspects.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The viruses responsible for mosquito-borne diseases are on an exploring mode, expanding their horizon, adapting to the situation and comfortably making their presence felt globally, from South Africa to Asia, Europe and United States. The current global scenario and recent documentations indicate towards the real monsters, outbreak of Zika, dengue and chikungunya viruses. Zika, dengue and chikungunya viruses are positive sense single-stranded RNA arbovirus and so their initial symptoms are almost 80% similar and all three are spread by mosquitos which bite during the day. Zika virus may damage brain by targeting the neuron cells in babies, and thereby it is very perilous to pregnant women. Dangerous Type: A less common but highly dangerous type of dengue is one which causes haemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome which are lethal. Chikungunya is not as lethal as Zika and dengue are, but it triggers joints pain which could last for months and even for years. CONCLUSION: The vaccines against Zika, dengue and chikungunya viruses are at different stages of development. The challenges associated with the epidemic wave of Zika, dengue and chikungunya viruses have been explained and the current status of drug/ vaccine development against these viruses has been reviewed.
