RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between sociodemographic and clinical conditions with the quality of life related to health of heart failure patients. METHOD: Cross-sectional study with a non-random sample of 84 outpatients with heart failure, performed in the city of João Pessoa, PB, Brazil, in the period from January to July 2015. The questionnaire by name Minnesota Living with Heart Questionnaire was used The following tests were applied in data analysis: t-Student, ANOVA and Pearson's Correlation, com a 5% significance level. RESULTS: The average scores of the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire showed a good quality of life in the group under study. There was a significant negative association between quality of life and age: thus the lower the age, the worse the quality of life. CONCLUSION: Health promotion actions become necessary to improve the coping capacity of this disease, especially for younger patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To characterise the trend of leprosy according to epidemiological and operational indicators in the state of Paraíba in the period of 2001-2011 with projections for the years 2012-2014. METHODS: An epidemiological, retrospective, documentary study of a temporal sequence conducted with 10,476 reported cases of leprosy diagnosed in adults between 2001 and 2011 in 223 municipalities in the state of Paraiba, Brazil. The results were composed and analysed using two epidemiological indicators, an operational indicator and statistical software. RESULTS: The annual detection rate of new cases showed an upward slope between 2001 and 2005 and a declining trend from 2006. Disability showed a cyclic variation with a downward tendency and a medium level of efficiency. CONCLUSION: The results show that the disease continues to be a problem in the state and reveal the need for shorter assessments that focus on health programmes and strategies that are used to fight leprosy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Assessing the adequacy of knowledge, attitude and practice of women regarding male and female condoms as STI/HIV preventive measures. METHOD: An evaluative Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) household survey with a quantitative approach, involving 300 women. Data collection took place between June and August 2013, in an informal urban settlement within the municipality of João Pessoa, Paraiba, Northeast Brazil. RESULTS: Regarding the male condom, most women showed inadequate knowledge and practice, and an adequate attitude. Regarding the female condom, knowledge, attitude and practice variables were unsatisfactory. Significant associations between knowledge/religious orientation and attitude/education regarding the male condom were observed. CONCLUSION: A multidisciplinary team should be committed to the development of educational practices as care promotion tools in order to improve adherence of condom use.

RESUMEN

The study aimed to examine the effects of the quality of life on the adaptation of people with an intestinal stoma. Cross-sectional study with 152 people with an ostomy. Three instruments were used: the sociodemographic and clinical characterization, Scale for the Level of Adaptation of Ostomy Patients, and City of Hope Quality of Life - Ostomy Questionnaire. The multiple linear regression model, multivariate technique, and cluster were used. The determination coefficient showed that 94.1% of the variability of the Adaptation scores is explained by the dimensions of quality of life. It can be seen that the highest standardized coefficients are the psychological dimension (ß = .386) and the social dimension (ß = .365), in which they produce the greatest changes in the average adaptation scores. The psychological and social well-being dimensions are the ones that most contribute to raising the levels of adaptation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To develop and test the content validity of the "Knowledge and Attitudes on Assessing Degrees of Physical Disability in Leprosy" instrument. METHODS: Methodological study carried out between January and May 2019 in three stages: item generation, analysis of aggregated redundancy to the composition, and content validation, using the Delphi technique. RESULTS: In the first evaluation, a relevance of ≥ 0.80 stood out for all items, except for 2.8, which was excluded. To make the instrument clearer, the sequence was renumbered from one to 32; 2.6, 3.1, and 15 were reformulated, and the others underwent modifications, except for ten and 13. After the second evaluation, all items obtained Content Validity Index > 0.90 and Kappa = 1.00. CONCLUSION: The instrument has an excellent content validity; it is inferred that it is adequate to measure the knowledge and attitudes of professionals in the assessment of physical disabilities in leprosy.

Hansen's disease is probably the human disease that causes more damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the occurrence of the association of grade 1 and 2 physical disabilities in Hansen's disease, as well as implications of joint analysis and strength of association with independent demographic and clinical variables. This is a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective, population-based and documentary study developed from 2009 to 2014 in a Hansen's disease reference center in Joao Pessoa, PB. It involved 414 medical records, the diagnosis and discharge data on socio-demographic, clinical and simplified neurological evaluation variables. Data were analyzed using descriptive (absolute frequency and percentage) and inferential (Chi-Square and Prevalence Ratio (PR) statistics techniques. Both in the diagnosis and discharge, low education level, multibacillary classification and presence of affected nerves were statistically associated to the development of disabilities (p <0.05). The gender showed association only at discharge (p <0.05). Male gender, low education level, multibacillary classification and presence of affected nerves were identified as factors associated with the development of disabilities, and the individuals were more likely to develop disabilities at discharge. There is a need for development of surveillance actions for the population group identified for the detection and early treatment of the disease. Higher chances of developing disabilities in the discharge period makes the promotion of guidelines that standardize the care of these individuals imperative.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and validate an instrument to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to pressure injury prevention among caregivers of institutionalized older people. Methods: this is a three-stage methodological study that consisted of instrument construction, analysis by experts, and semantic and appearance analysis, with 78 participants, observing the validation process steps for psychometric instruments in the criteria of clarity and relevance. Results: in the Delphi I round, the validity index of the general content in the clarity criterion was 0.66, in relevance 0.85, and the Kappa value was >0.76. In Delphi II, clarity was 0.95, relevance 1.00, and the Kappa value was >0.97. Conclusions: this is a valid instrument in terms of content and appearance, which allows further analysis of its reliability for the measurement of the constructs for which it is intended. Therefore, it can be considered a tool for care management in pressure injury prevention.
