RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Endovascular therapy (EVT) is the most successful treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, futile recanalization (FR) seriously affects the prognosis of these patients. The aim of this study was to investigate predictors of FR after EVT in patients with AIS. METHOD: Patients diagnosed with AIS due to anterior circulation LVO and receiving EVT between June 2020 and October 2022 were prospectively enrolled. FR after EVT was defined as a poor 90-day prognosis (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score ≥ 3) despite achieving successful reperfusion (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction [mTICI] classification of 2b-3). All included patients were categorized into control group (mRS score < 3) and FR group (mRS score ≥ 3). Demographic characteristics, comorbidities (hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, smoking, etc.), stroke-specific data (NIHSS score, ASPECT score and site of occlusion), procedure data (treatment type [direct thrombectomy vs. bridging thrombectomy], degree of vascular recanalization [mTICI], procedure duration time and onset-recanalization time), laboratory indicators (lymphocytes count, neutrophils count, monocytes count, C-reactive protein, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio [MHR], lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio [LMR], lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio [LCR], lymphocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio[LHR], total cholesterol and triglycerides.) were compared between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to explore independent predictors of FR after EVT. RESULTS: A total of 196 patients were included in this study, among which 57 patients were included in the control group and 139 patients were included in the FR group. Age, proportion of patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus, median NIHSS score, CRP level, procedure duration time, neutrophil count and NLR were higher in the FR group than in the control group. Lymphocyte count, LMR, and LCR were lower in the FR group than in the control group. There were no significant differences in platelet count, monocytes count, total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, gender, smoking, atrial fibrillation, percentage of occluded sites, onset-recanalization time, ASPECT score and type of treatment between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that NLR was independently associated with FR after EVT (OR = 1.37, 95%CI = 1.005-1.86, P = 0.046). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that high NLR was associated with a risk of FR in patients with AIS due to anterior circulation LVO. These findings may help clinicians determine which patients with AIS are at higher risk of FR after EVT. Our study can provide a theoretical basis for interventions in the aforementioned population.

RESUMEN

Submergence is an abiotic stress that limits agricultural production world-wide. Plants sense oxygen levels during submergence and postsubmergence reoxygenation and modulate their responses. Increasing evidence suggests that completely submerged plants are often exposed to low-light stress, owing to the depth and turbidity of the surrounding water; however, how light availability affects submergence tolerance remains largely unknown. Here, we showed that Arabidopsis thaliana MYB DOMAIN PROTEIN30 (MYB30) is an important transcription factor that integrates light signaling and postsubmergence stress responses. MYB DOMAIN PROTEIN30 protein abundance decreased upon submergence and accumulated during reoxygenation. Under submergence conditions, CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENIC1 (COP1), a central regulator of light signaling, caused the ubiquitination and degradation of MYB30. In response to desubmergence, however, light-induced MYB30 interacted with MYC2, a master transcription factor involved in jasmonate signaling, and activated the expression of the VITAMIN C DEFECTIVE1 (VTC1) and GLUTATHIONE SYNTHETASE1 (GSH1) gene families to enhance antioxidant biosynthesis. Consistent with this, the myb30 knockout mutant showed increased sensitivity to submergence, which was partially rescued by overexpression of VTC1 or GSH1. Thus, our findings uncover the mechanism by which the COP1-MYB30 module integrates light signals with cellular oxidative homeostasis to coordinate plant responses to postsubmergence stress.

RESUMEN

Pathogenesis of ischemic stroke is mainly characterized by thrombosis and neuroinflammation. Purinergic signaling pathway constitutes adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP), adenosine monophosphate (AMP), and adenosine (ADO). ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP and then to AMP by extracellular nucleotidase CD39; AMP is subsequently converted to adenosine by CD73. All these nucleotides and nucleosides act on purinergic receptors protecting against thrombosis and inhibit inflammation. In addition, many physical methods have been found to play a neuroprotective role through purinergic signaling. This review mainly introduces the role and potential mechanism of purinergic signalings in the treatment of ischemic stroke, so as to provide reference for seeking new treatment methods for stroke.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the physical and cognitive functions of patients with stroke who underwent either direct or bridging thrombectomy within 6 hours of stroke onset. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with large vessel occlusion in anterior circulation treated with direct (direct group) or bridging thrombectomy (bridging group) were prospectively analyzed between June 2020 and February 2022. The efficacy outcome was the 3-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score, the safety outcome was symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and cognitive function was assessed using the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scale at 6 months after stroke. RESULTS: A total of 125 patients (direct group, n = 75; bridging group, n = 50) who had completed follow-up at 3 months by telephone call were included. No significant differences were observed between the direct and bridging groups in terms of an mRS score of 0-2 (25.3% vs 22.0%, respectively; P = .83), an mRS score of 0-3 (37.3% vs 44.0%, respectively; P = .58), sICH (17.3% vs 14.0%, respectively; P = .80), or 3-month all-cause mortality (36.3% vs 30.0%, respectively; P = .34). Sixty-nine patients (direct group, n = 38; bridging group, n = 31) completed the CDR assessment at 6 months after stroke. There was no significant difference in poststroke dementia, defined as a CDR score of ≥1 point between the direct group (42.1%) and bridging group (22.6%) (P = .12). Ordinal regression analyses showed that the CDR score at 6 months was not associated with treatment type (direct thrombectomy vs bridging thrombectomy). CONCLUSIONS: With regard to physical and cognitive functions at 3 and 6 months, direct thrombectomy was comparable with bridging thrombectomy in patients who were treated within 6 hours of stroke onset.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To investigate the predictive role of pre-thrombolytic high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) on the safety and efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS: Patients with AIS who underwent intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant plasminogen activator (rtPA) or urokinase without endovascular therapy from June 2019 to June 2022 were retrospectively analysed. All patients were grouped into two groups (high or low hs-CRP group) according to the median value of hs-CRP before intravenous thrombolysis. The baseline NIHSS, NIHSS changes before and after thrombolysis (ΔNIHSS), the rate of good thrombolysis response (NIHSS decreased ≥ 2 points from baseline), the rate of any intracranial hemorrhage, age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, uric acid and platelet count were compared between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify possible prognostic factors for a good thrombolysis response. RESULTS: A total of 212 patients were included in the analysis, with a mean age of 66.3 ± 12.5 years. In total, 145 patients received rtPA, and 67 patients received urokinase. Patients were divided into a high hs-CRP group (> 1.60 mg/L) and a low hs-CRP group (≤ 1.60 mg/L) according to the median hs-CRP level (1.60 mg/L). The ΔNIHSS of the high hs-CRP group was significantly smaller than that of the low hs-CRP group (0 [-1 ~ 0] vs. -1 [-2 ~ 0], P < 0.05). The good rate of thrombolysis response in the high hs-CRP group was significantly lower than that in the low hs-CRP group (21.9% vs. 36.5%, P < 0.05). Similar results were shown in the rtPA subgroup between the high and low hs-CRP groups but not in the urokinase subgroup. Logistic regression analysis showed that hs-CRP > 1.60 mg/L was negatively correlated with a good thrombolysis response rate (OR = 0.496, 95% CI = 0.266-0.927, P = 0.028). CONCLUSION: hs-CRP > 1.6 mg/L may serve as a poor prognosis predictive factor for patients with AIS receiving intravenous thrombolysis. However, due to the small sample size of this study, further studies are needed to verify our results.

RESUMEN

Milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) is leguminous green manure (GM) which produces organic nitrogen (N) for subsequent crops and is widely planted and utilized to simultaneously reduce the use of synthetic N fertilizer and its environmental costs in rice systems. Determination of an optimal N application rate specific to the GM-rice system is challenging because of the large temporal and spatial variations in soil, climate, and field management conditions. To solve this problem, we developed a framework to explore the site-specific N application rate for the low-N footprint rice production system in southern China based on multi-site field experiments, farmer field survey, and process-based model (WHCNS_Rice, soil water heat carbon nitrogen simulator for rice). The results showed that a process-based model can explain >83.3% (p < 0.01) of the variation in rice yield, aboveground biomass, crop N uptake, and soil mineral N. Based on the scenario analysis of the tested WHCNS_Rice model, the simple regression equation was developed to implement site-specific N application rates that considered variations in GM biomass, soil, and climatic conditions. Simulation evaluation on nine provinces in southern China showed that the site-specific N application rate reduced regional synthetic N fertilizer input by 29.6 ± 17.8% and 65.3 ± 23.0% for single and early rice, respectively; decreased their total N footprints (NFs) by 23.4% and 49.3%, respectively; and without reduction in rice yield, compared with traditional farming N practices. The reduction in total NF was attributed to the reduced emissions from ammonia volatilization by 35.2%, N leaching by 28.4%, and N runoff by 32.7%. In this study, we suggested a low NF rice production system that can be obtained by combining GM with site-specific N application rate in southern China.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the performance of a liver graft sonographic grading system and point shear wave elastography (PSWE) in predicting early allograft dysfunction (EAD) after liver transplantation (LT). METHODS: Successive brain-dead donors and liver recipients in our hospital from March 2017 to May 2018 were retrospectively recruited. All donors underwent PSWE examination, abdominal ultrasonography, and sonographic grading (grade 0 to grade 5). Donors with ≥ 10 valid PSWE examinations and a failure rate of < 60% were included. For all recipients, abdominal ultrasonography and blood tests for biologic parameters were performed preoperatively and daily postoperatively to screen for EAD. The recipients and their grafts were classified into EAD and non-EAD groups. Statistical analyses were performed to analyze the correlations among liver stiffness (LS), liver graft sonographic grading, and EAD. RESULTS: Thirty-two donors and 32 corresponding liver recipients were enrolled (15 cases in the EAD group; 17 in the non-EAD group). There were no grade 0, 1, or 2 cases in the two groups. For prediction of EAD in recipients after LT, the AUC for PSWE was 0.929 and the AUC for combination of PSWE and sonographic grading system was 0.935. CONCLUSIONS: Combination of PSWE and sonographic grading system can predict postoperative EAD in LT recipients with high sensitivity. Abnormal results may suggest a need for liver biopsy preoperatively, thus avoiding unnecessary surgical preparation for liver procurement. KEY POINTS: • Combination of PSWE with new sonographic grading system is useful for preoperative evaluation of liver grafts from brain-dead donors. • EAD is as a criterion for evaluating the diagnostic value of PSWE and sonographic grading system. • Combination of PSWE and sonographic grading system can predict postoperative EAD in LT recipients with high sensitivity.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: PEG-rhG-CSF reduces neutropenia and improves chemotherapy safety. In China's registration trial (CFDA: 2006L01305), we assessed its efficacy and safety against rhG-CSF, and prospectively explored its value over multiple cycles of chemotherapy. METHODS: In this open-label, randomized, multicenter phase 3 study, breast cancer patients (n = 569) were randomized to receive PEG-rhG-CSF 100 µg/kg, PEG-rhG-CSF 6 mg, or rhG-CSF 5 µg/kg/d after chemotherapy. The primary endpoints were the incidence and duration of grade 3/4 neutropenia during cycle 1. Secondary endpoints included the incidence and duration of grade 3/4 neutropenia during cycles 2-4, the incidence of febrile neutropenia, and the safety. RESULTS: A once-per-cycle PEG-rhG-CSF at either 100 µg/kg or 6 mg was not different from daily injections of rhG-CSF for either incidence or duration of grade 3/4 neutropenia. Interestingly, a substantial difference was noted during cycle 2, and the difference became bigger over cycles 3-4, reaching a statistical significance at cycle 4 in either incidence (P = 0.0309) or duration (P = 0.0289) favoring PEG-rhG-CSF. A significant trend toward a lower incidence of all-grade adverse events was noted at 129 (68.98%), 142 (75.53%), and 160 (82.47%) in the PEG-rhG-CSF 100 µg/kg and 6 mg and rhG-CSF groups, respectively (P = 0.0085). The corresponding incidence of grade 3/4 drug-related adverse events was 2/187 (1.07%), 1/188 (0.53%), and 8/194 (4.12%), respectively (P = 0.0477). Additionally, PFS in metastatic patients preferred PEG-rhG-CSF to rhG-CSF despite no significance observed by Kaplan-Meier analysis (n = 49, P = 0.153). CONCLUSIONS: PEG-rhG-CSF is a more convenient and safe formulation and a more effective prophylactic measure in breast cancer patients receiving multiple cycles of chemotherapy.

RESUMEN

The nasal type of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma is a rare aggressive lymphoma with poor prognosis. To discover a successful treatment, we investigated the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy with methotrexate, etoposide, dexamethasone, and polyethylene glycol-asparaginase (MESA). Three cycles of MESA were administered to 46 patients with new or relapsed/refractory natural killer/T-cell lymphoma. Complete response after 3 treatment cycles was 43.5%, the overall response rate was 87%, and 2-year overall survival was 83.4%. Complete response was significantly better for newly diagnosed patients than for patients with relapsed/refractory disease. Patients with newly diagnosed disease had a significantly better overall response rate after 1, but not after 2 or 3 treatment cycles. Overall survival and progression-free survival did not differ over 2 years. Grade 1/2 toxicities were frequent, but MESA was associated with fewer grade 3/4 events or treatment-related deaths. These results will require confirmation in larger prospective trials.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the level of dental anxiety and dental behavior between dental fear children with dental treatment under general anaesthesia (GA) and those under restraint. METHODS: The GA group included 31 dental fear children aged 4-6-year-old who received dental treatment under the GA. The restraint group included 31 dental fear children aged 4-6-year-old who received dental treatment under the restraint. Age, gender, parent's education level, decayed-missing-filled-tooth (dmft) and face version of the Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale (MCDASf) score before treatment were matched between the two groups. The Chinese version of MCDASf was used to evaluate the level of dental anxiety in each child before treatment, right after treatment and before examination at recall visit 2-3 weeks after treatment. And the Chinese version of Venham Clinical Anxiety and Cooperative Behavior Scale was used to evaluate children's dental behavior in each child before treatment and before examination at recall visit 2-3 weeks after treatment. RESULTS: The average scores of MCDASf in GA group right after treatment and before recall were lower than that before treatment. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Furthermore, the average score of MCDASf before recall was lower than those after treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The average scores of MCDASf in restraint group right after treatment and 2-3 weeks after treatment were higher than those before treatment, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Children's dental behavior was significantly improved at recall visit in both groups (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Dental fear could be reduced by treatment under GA. The children's dental behavior was improved after GA. Restraint did not result in the significant elevation of dental anxiety level, but dental behavior was improved after restraint during the short-term recall.

RESUMEN

To investigate the predictive role of the neutrophil-platelet ratio (NPR) before intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) on hemorrhagic transformation (HT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). AIS patients treated with IVT without endovascular therapy between June 2019 and February 2023 were included. Patients were divided into high NPR (>35) and low NPR (≤35) groups according to the optimal threshold NPR value for identifying high-risk patients before IVT. The baseline data and the incidence of HT and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) were compared between the two groups. The predictive role of the NPR and other related factors on HT after IVT was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. A total of 247 patients were included, with an average age of 67.5 ± 12.4 years. Post-thrombolytic HT was observed in 18.6% of the patients, and post-thrombolytic sICH was observed in 1.2% of the patients. There were 69 patients in the high NPR group and 178 patients in the low NPR group. The incidence of HT in the high NPR group was significantly higher than that in the low NPR group (30.4% vs 16.3%, P < .05). The incidence of sICH was significantly higher in the high NPR group than in the low NPR group (14.5% vs 1.7%, P < .001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that NPR > 35 was positively correlated with HT (odds ratio (OR) = 3.236, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.481-7.068, P = .003) and sICH (OR = 13.644, 95% CI: 2.392-77.833, P = .003). A high NPR (>35) before IVT may be a predictor of HT in AIS patients. This finding may help clinicians make clinical decisions before IVT in AIS patients.

RESUMEN

Aim: To explore the association between the neutrophil-to-platelet ratio (NPR) and futile recanalization (FR) in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vascular occlusions after endovascular therapy (EVT). Methods: FR after EVT was defined as a poor 90-day prognosis (modified Rankin scale [mRS] score ≥3) despite successful reperfusion (modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction grade 2b-3). Patients were divided into high NPR (>35; n = 115) and low NPR (≤35; n = 81) groups. Results: The FR rate was significantly higher in the high NPR group than low NPR group (81.74 vs 55.56%; p = 0.000). NPR was independently associated with FR (odds ratio: 2.107; 95% CI: 1.017-4.364; p = 0.045). Conclusion: High NPR was associated with the risk of FR in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vascular occlusions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Distant metastases stemming from a papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) are quite rare. Here we report an exceptional case of PTC presenting with cervical lymphatic and uterine metastases. This is the first case report of a PTC with uterine involvement. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old Chinese woman came to our hospital complaining of discomfort in the throat that she had been experiencing for about half a month. PTC and cervical lymphatic metastasis were diagnosed after ultrasound examinations. A massive heterogeneous mass was found beside the uterus during the pre-operative checkup and a diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma was suspected after a thorough case discussion. However, it proved to be a metastasis from the PTC as determined by pathological and immunohistochemical examinations after the operation. The patient declined further treatments. She was followed for 22 months with no sign of recurrence detected. CONCLUSIONS: In this report, an unusual case of PTC was presented. The patient had not only regional lymphatic metastasis, but also had a massive metastasis in the uterine corpus, which was initially misdiagnosed as ovarian carcinoma. This case is of interest because of its rarity and exceptionally good prognosis. The reason for the misdiagnosis was attributed to overlooking the possibility of a distant metastasis coming from a PTC. This case raises the issue that completing an iodine-131 scan before operating on patients with PTC may be warranted.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In Xenopus, the functional kidney of the tadpole, the pronephros, forms from the kidney field, which is specified at completion of gastrulation. Specification of the kidney field requires retinoic acid (RA) signalling during gastrulation, while fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signals inhibit should be inhibit this process. RESULTS: We have analysed the functional interactions taking place during gastrulation between RA and FGF signals in the lateral marginal zone (LMZ), that is in the environment of unspecified pronephric mesoderm precursors. Inhibition of FGF receptor (FGFR) signalling with SU5402 does not significantly affect expression of genes encoding RA metabolism enzymes and RA receptor-α in LMZ explants. Furthermore, SU5402 has no effect on the expression of hoxa1, a major RA target in the LMZ, showing that FGF is not antagonising RA in the LMZ. Disruption of RA signalling affects FGF ligand production to some extent, especially FGF8b, but the strongest effect is the down-regulation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase-3 (MKP3)-encoding gene, mkp3. A strong up-regulation of mkp3 occurs in response to exogenous RA. This effect is reduced in a context of FGFR inhibition, suggesting that RA and FGF signals are co-operating upstream of mkp3. Mkp3 knockdown results in an inhibition of the kidney field markers pax8 and lhx1 and in a defective development of the pronephros. CONCLUSIONS: FGF is not negatively influencing pronephric specification by antagonising RA signalling. Functional interactions between RA and FGF rather take place at the level of the transcriptional regulation of mkp3, indicating that RA may antagonise FGF signalling at the level of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) pathway. A fine tuning of Erk signalling by MKP3 is important for the proper establishment of the kidney field.

RESUMEN

A novel and efficient algorithm based on a modified Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm (MGSA) in the Fresnel domain is presented, together with mathematical derivation, and two pure phase-only masks (POMs) are generated. The algorithm's application to data hiding is demonstrated by a simulation procedure, in which a hidden image/logo is encoded into phase forms. A hidden image/logo can be extracted by the proposed high-performance lensless optical data-hiding system. The reconstructed image shows good quality and the errors are close to zero. In addition, the robustness of our data-hiding technique is illustrated by simulation results. The position coordinates of the POMs as well as the wavelength are used as secure keys that can ensure sufficient information security and robustness. The main advantages of this proposed watermarking system are that it uses fewer iterative processes to produce the masks, and the image-hiding scheme is straightforward.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical value of the expression of glucose regulated protein 78 (GRP78) for assessment of severity, chemoresistance and prognosis in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma ( GC) . METHODS: A cohort of 237 patients with gastric cancer was included in this study. 160 patients of them were treated by D2 radical gastrectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy. The GRP78 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry and 80 patients of them were tested in vitro for cancer chemosensitivity by ATP-tumor chemosensitivity assay (ATP-TCA). In addition, the relationships were analyzed between GRP78 and age, gender, tumor differentiation, invasion, disease stage, lymph node metastasis and chemoresistance as well as disease-free survival (DFS). RESULTS: The positive rate of GRP78 expression in the gastric adenocarcinoma was 68.8% before the initiation of chemotherapy. The positive GRP78 expression was significantly correlated with tumor invasion depth, poor differentiation, TNM stages, and lymph node metastasis (all P < 0.05), not correlated with gender and age, and high GRP78 expression was associated with the chemoresistance of the gastric cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents. Negative GRP78 expression was associated with higher sensitivity to both drugs and regimens. The DFS of GRP78-positive group and GRP78-negative group was (53.6 ± 0.9) months and (38.3 ± 0.8) months, respectively (P = 0.041). Interestingly, subgroup analysis revealed that the DFS in GRP78-negative and-positive patients treated with taxane-containing chemotherapy was (58.6 ± 2.6) months and (49.1 ± 2.7) months, respectively, but the difference was statistically not significant (P = 0.111). In contrast, in the subset of GRP78-negative and- positive patients treated with taxane-containing regimens, the DFS was (45.5 ± 1.9) months and (35.1 ± 2.2) months, respectively, showing a significant difference (P = 0.038). In the group of patients with positive GRP78 expression, the patients treated with taxane-containing chemotherapy had a longer DFS [(49.1 ± 2.7) months] than those without that treatment [(35.1 ± 2.2) months], showing a significant difference (P = 0.017). Univariate analysis revealed that DFS was correlated with histological grade, GRP78 expression and lymph node metastasis (all P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that GRP78 expression and TNM staging were independent influencing factors for gastric cancer (both P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study suggest that GRP78 may be a novel biomarker for assessment of malignant degree and prediction of chemoresistance in gastric cancer, and may be helpful to chemotherapy planning and prognosis prediction in patients with gastric cancer.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of whole-body vibration on Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway in bone marrow cells of ovariectomized osteoporosis rats. Thirty-six healthy 3-month old female Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into the following three groups by body weight: sham-operation (Sham), ovariectomized (OVX), and OVX whole-body vibration (WBV) groups. Ten weeks after ovariectomization, the rats of WBV group received vibration treatment (90 Hz, 15 min) twice per day. At the end of 8-week vibration, the whole-body bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition were detected by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in vivo. The protein expressions of ß-catenin and p-GSK3ß in both bone marrow cells and bone marrow stromal cells were detected by Western blot. The results showed that, compared with OVX group, WBV group showed decreased fat mass and fat mass content, as well as increased lean body mass content. The BMD of the proximal tibia in WBV group was significantly higher than that in OVX group, however, there was no difference of BMD in whole-body and other positions between the two groups. The ß-catenin expression in bone marrow stromal cells showed no difference between OVX and WBV groups. The p-GSK3ß expression of bone marrow cells was increased in WBV group compared with that in OVX group, whereas bone marrow stromal cells from two groups did not exhibit the difference of the p-GSK3ß expression. These results suggest that whole body vibration can stimulate the protein expression of p-GSK3ß in bone marrow cells of ovariectomized osteoporosis rats, which could improve the bone loss induced by ovariectomization.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively analyze the clinical features of children who received dental treatment under general anesthesia (GA) and the characteristics of dental treatment. METHODS: The records of 693 patients treated under GA in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, between Jan. 2001 and Dec. 2012 were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The numbers of patients treated under GA increased year-to-year. Most of them were under 4-year-old. The main reasons of dental treatment under GA were uncooperative and disabled. The average number of teeth treated was 12±4 for each child, and the average time for treating one tooth was 12 min. The 3 months follow-up rate was 60.31%, and the older, the fewer treated tooth number and out-of-town associated with the less follow-up rate. CONCLUSION: The main reasons of dental treatment under GA are uncooperative and disabled. GA is an effective and safe method for dental rehabilitation in children.
