RESUMEN

The exploitation of novel wound healing methods with real-time infection sensing and high spatiotemporal precision is highly important for human health. Pt-based metal-organic cycles/cages (MOCs) have been employed as multifunctional antibacterial agents due to their superior Pt-related therapeutic efficiency, various functional subunits and specific geometries. However, how to rationally apply these nanoscale MOCs on the macroscale with controllable therapeutic output is still challenging. Here, a centimeter-scale Pt MOC film was constructed via multistage assembly and subsequently coated on a N,N'-dimethylated dipyridinium thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (MPT)-stained silk fabric to form a smart wound dressing for bacterial sensing and wound healing. The MPT on silk fabric could be used to monitor wound infection in real-time through the bacteria-mediated reduction of MPT to its radical form via a color change. The MPT radical also exhibited an excellent photothermal effect under 660 nm light irradiation, which could not only be applied for photothermal therapy but also induce the disassembly of the Pt MOC film suprastructure. The highly ordered Pt MOC film suprastructure exhibited high biosafety, while it also showed improved antibacterial efficiency after thermally induced disassembly. In vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the combination of the Pt MOC film and MPT-stained silk can provide real-time information on wound infection for timely treatment through noninvasive techniques. This study paves the way for bacterial sensing and wound healing with centimeter-scale metal-organic materials.

Deep-seated bacterial infections (DBIs) are stubborn and deeply penetrate tissues. Eliminating deep-seated bacteria and promoting tissue regeneration remain great challenges. Here, a novel radical-containing hydrogel (SFT-B Gel) cross-linked by a chaotropic effect was designed for the sensing of DBIs and near-infrared photothermal therapy (NIR-II PTT). A silk fibroin solution stained with 4,4',4″-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tris(1-methylpyridin-1-ium) (TPT3+) was employed as the backbone, which could be cross-linked by a closo-dodecaborate cluster (B12H122-) through a chaotropic effect to form the SFT-B Gel. More interestingly, the SFT-B Gel exhibited the ability to sense DBIs, which could generate a TPT2+• radical with obvious color changes in the presence of bacteria. The radical-containing SFT-B Gel (SFT-B★ Gel) possessed strong NIR-II absorption and a remarkable photothermal effect, thus demonstrating excellent NIR-II PTT antibacterial activity for the treatment of DBIs. This work provides a new approach for the construction of intelligent hydrogels with unique properties using a chaotropic effect.

SARS-CoV-2 infection causes injuries of not only the lungs but also the heart and endothelial cells in vasculature of multiple organs, and induces systemic inflammation and immune over-reactions, which makes COVID-19 a disease phenome that simultaneously affects multiple systems. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are intrinsic risk and causative factors for severe COVID-19 comorbidities and death. The wide-spread infection and reinfection of SARS-CoV-2 variants and the long-COVID may become a new common threat to human health and propose unprecedented impact on the risk factors, pathophysiology, and pharmacology of many diseases including CVD for a long time. COVID-19 has highlighted the urgent demand for precision medicine which needs new knowledge network to innovate disease taxonomy for more precise diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of disease. A deeper understanding of CVD in the setting of COVID-19 phenome requires a paradigm shift from the current phenotypic study that focuses on the virus or individual symptoms to phenomics of COVID-19 that addresses the inter-connectedness of clinical phenotypes, i.e., clinical phenome. Here, we summarize the CVD manifestations in the full clinical spectrum of COVID-19, and the phenome-wide association study of CVD interrelated to COVID-19. We discuss the underlying biology for CVD in the COVID-19 phenome and the concept of precision medicine with new phenomic taxonomy that addresses the overall pathophysiological responses of the body to the SARS-CoV-2 infection. We also briefly discuss the unique taxonomy of disease as Zheng-hou patterns in traditional Chinese medicine, and their potential implications in precision medicine of CVD in the post-COVID-19 era.

Radical-containing frameworks (RCFs) have emerged as promising functional materials in various fields due to the combination of the highly ordered frame structure and the fascinating property of organic radicals. Here, the first example of radical-containing supramolecular organic frameworks (SOFs) fabricated by the chaotropic effect between closo-dodecaborate cluster (B12 H122- ) and 2,4,6-tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPT3+ ) is presented. The SOFs can be easily synthesized by stirring the B12 H122- and the TPT3+ in aqueous solution through self-assembly. Upon 435 nm light irradiation, the SOFs exhibits photochromic behavior from slight yellow (SOF-1) to dark purple (SOF-2). Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy also reveals that stable radicals are generated in situ after light irradiation. Powder X-ray diffraction demonstrates the SOFs maintain their structural stabilities upon light irradiation. More interestingly, the radical-containing SOFs exhibit efficient photothermal effect under 660 nm light irradiation, which can be applied as photothermal agent for antibacterial application both in vitro and in vivo. This work highlights the construction of RCFs through supramolecular self-assembly, which may arouse applications in energy, catalysis, photoluminescence, and biomedical fields.

Perchlorotrityl radical (PTM), tris (2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) methyl radical (TTM), (3,5-dichloro-4-pyridyl) bis (2,4,6 trichlorophenyl) methyl radical (PyBTM), (N-carbazolyl) bis (2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) methyl radical (CzBTM), and their derivatives are stable organic radicals that exhibit light emissions at room temperature. Since these triarylmethyl radicals have an unpaired electron, their electron spins at the lowest excited state and ground state are both doublets, and the transition from the lowest excited state to the ground state does not pose the problem of a spin-forbidden reaction. When used as OLED layers, these triarylmethyl radicals exhibit unique light-emitting properties, which can increase the theoretical upper limit of the OLED's internal quantum efficiency (IQE) to 100%. In recent years, research on the luminescent properties of triarylmethyl radicals has attracted increasing attention. In this review, recent developments in these triarylmethyl radicals and their derivatives in OLED devices are introduced.

A cheap iron-catalyzed C-C bond cleavage/thiolation and selenylation of cycloalkyl hydroperoxides are presented. This redox-neutral protocol provides efficient access to diverse distal keto-functionalized thioethers and selenium compounds. Remarkably, only some amounts of disulfides are required for this transformation.

This study aimed to establish an effective prognostic nomogram for microvascular decompression (MVD)-treated trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The nomogram was based on a retrospective cohort study of 1054 patients with TN. During the period 2005-2014, 845 patients at our department treated TN with MVD and served as a development cohort. The predictive accuracy and discriminative ability of the nomogram were determined by concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve. The model was externally validated by 209 TN patients during 2014-2016. Multivariate cox analysis suggested that the patient's age, atypical pain, vascular type, number of offending vessels, and second MVD were significant factors influencing the prognosis of MVD-treated TN. The C index of nomogram in the development cohort was 0.767 (95% CI, 0.739-0.794), and 0.749 (95% CI, 0.688-0.810) in the validation cohort. We developed and validated a nomogram to predict 3-year overall remission rate after MVD treatment of TN. The nomogram can be used in clinical trials to determine the likelihood of pain recurrence in TN patients treated with MVD for 3 years to aid in the comprehensive treatment of TN.

Objective To assess the effects of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C)/vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) signaling on nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in human osteosarcoma MG63 cells and the subsequent impact on the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). MethodsMG63 cells were treated with VEGF-C alone (VEGF-C group), VEGF-C + iNOS inhibitor aminoguanidine (AG; AG group), and VEGF-C + VEGFR-3 inhibitor MAZ51 (MAZ51 group); untreated MG63 cells were used as controls. NO production was evaluated by a colorimetric method involving nitrate reductase. Meanwhile, mRNA and protein levels of iNOS were examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot. To explore the effect of VEGF-C/VEGFR-3/iNOS signaling of MG63 cells on proliferation of HUVECs, we set up six groups: HUVECs, HUVECs+MG63, HUVECs+VEGF-C, HUVECs+MG63+VEGF-C, HUVECs+MG63+VEGF-C+AG, and HUVECs+MG63+VEGF-C+MAZ51 groups. The proliferation of HUVEC cells was assessed by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation assay, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression quantitation. ResultsVEGF-C treatment enhanced iNOS expression at both gene and protein levels (mRNA: LSD-t=4.152, P<0.01; protein: LSD-t=3.486, P<0.01) and increased NO release of MG63 cells (LSD-t=3.774, P<0.01); treatment with either AG or MAZ51 decreased these effects (mRNA: LSD-t=9.183, P<0.001; LSD-t=8.639, P<0.001; protein: LSD-t=5.170, P<0.001; LSD-t=7.255, P<0.001; NO production:LSD-t=10.326, P<0.001; LSD-t=10.540, P<0.001). Interestingly, co-incubation of HUVECs with MG63 cells and/or VEGF-C significantly promoted HUVEC proliferation (EdU: LSD-t=5.374, P<0.001; LSD-t=2.984, P<0.05; LSD-t=8.526, P<0.001; PCNA: LSD-t=9.267, P<0.001; LSD-t=5.515, P<0.001; LSD-t=14.873, P<0.001).The proliferation effects of HUVEC induced by MG63 cells and VEGF-C attenuated by the treatment of AG (EdU: LSD-t=10.770, P<0.001; PCNA: LSD-t=19.940, P<0.001) or MAZ51 (EdU: LSD-t=6.950, P<0.001; PCNA: LSD-t=14.001, P<0.001). ConclusionIn human osteosarcoma MG63 cells, activation of VEGFR-3 by VEGF-C promotes iNOS expression and NO production, which subsequently induces HUVEC proliferation.

A series of novel N-alkyl-1-deoxynojirimycin derivatives 25 ∼ 44 were synthesised and evaluated for their in vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory activity to develop α-glucosidase inhibitors with high activity. All twenty compounds exhibited α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC50 values ranging from 30.0 ± 0.6 µM to 2000 µM as compared to standard acarbose (IC50 = 822.0 ± 1.5 µM). The most active compound 43 was ∼27-fold more active than acarbose. Kinetic study revealed that compounds 43, 40, and 34 were all competitive inhibitors on α-glucosidase with Ki of 10 µM, 52 µM, and 150 µM, respectively. Molecular docking demonstrated that the high active inhibitors interacted with α-glucosidase by four types of interactions, including hydrogen bonds, π-π stacking interactions, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic interaction. Among all the interactions, the π-π stacking interaction and hydrogen bond played a significant role in a various range of activities of the compounds.

Bacterial blight, historically a seed-borne disease of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is caused by Xanthomonas citri pv. malvacearum, resulted in significant economic losses prior to development of resistant varieties and implementation of acid-delinting of planting seed. Periodic outbreaks have been associated with seed since the early twentieth century; of note, the disease has experienced a resurgence since 2011. Effective management of bacterial blight is dependent on accurate diagnosis and detection of the pathogen. Currently, detection of X. citri pv. malvacearum is performed by time-consuming microbiological methods. In this study, a novel and sensitive TaqMan-based qPCR protocol was developed to test for X. citri pv. malvacearum in cotton plant tissue. The primers developed are specific to five races of X. citri pv. malvacearum, but not to other Xanthomonas species or cotton-associated nonpathogenic bacteria. The efficiency of this assay was evaluated on artificially inoculated cotton leaves and seed, on naturally infected cotton leaves, and on bolls and seed originating from bacterial blight symptomatic bolls. The protocol's efficiency from artificially inoculated plant tissue was 102 copies g-1 and 37 copies from 1 g seed for leaves and seed, respectively. In addition, X. citri pv. malvacearum was detected from 94% of the seed samples originating from blight symptomatic bolls. The qPCR protocol provides a rapid and accurate method for diagnosis and detection of bacterial blight and offers a tool for monitoring X. citri pv. malvacearum and potentially reducing its spread in seed.

OBJECT: Microvascular decompression (MVD) is the most popular surgical procedure for treating Trigeminal neuralgia (TN). In this article, the authors conducted a large case series in which patients underwent MVD for TN, and focus on surgical outcomes, intraoperative findings, complications and risk factors. METHODS: From January 2017 to June 2017, a total of 84 patients with TN were treated with MVD in our department. The authors retrospectively analyzed the surgical outcomes and postoperative complications of these patients. Risk factors were analyzed by binary logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Of the 84 patients, 69 had complete postoperative symptom relief (BNI I-II). A total of 28 patients developed postoperative facial numbness (BNI III-IV) and 1 patient died intraoperatively. With binary logistic regression analysis, significant risk factors for postoperative Facial numbness (FN) were longer operation time (odds ratio [OR] 1.153, P <0.05) and longer hospital stay (OR 1.371, P <0.05). The patients' age, the length of the disease, the gender, and the side of the disease did not affect the occurrence of postoperative FN. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that patients with TN treated with MVD had a good response rate after surgery. The incidence of FN after surgery is not low, and longer duration of surgery and longer hospital stay are risk factors for FN. In the case of ensuring the success rate of surgery, reducing unnecessary operations, reducing the operation time, will help to reduce the occurrence of FN.

Free radicals have emerged as new-type and promising candidates for hypoxic tumor treatment, and further study of their therapeutic mechanism by real-time imaging is of great importance to explore their biomedical applications. Herein, we present a smart free-radical generator AuNC-V057-TPP for hypoxic tumor therapy; the AuNC-V057-TPP not only exhibits good therapeutic effect under both hypoxic and normoxic conditions but also can monitor the release of free radicals in real-time both in vitro and in vivo. What is more, with the mitochondria-targeting ability, the AuNC-V057-TPP is demonstrated with improved antitumor efficacy through enhanced free radical level in mitochondria, which leads to mitochondrial membrane damage and ATP production reduction and finally induces cancer cell apoptosis.

Human 3α-HSD3 (3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 3) plays an essential role in the inactivation of the most potent androgen 5α-DHT (5α-dihydrotestosterone). The present study attempts to obtain the important structure of 3α-HSD3 in complex with 5α-DHT and to investigate the role of 3α-HSD3 in breast cancer cells. We report the crystal structure of human 3α-HSD3·NADP(+)·A-dione (5α-androstane-3,17-dione)/epi-ADT (epiandrosterone) complex, which was obtained by co-crystallization with 5α-DHT in the presence of NADP(+) Although 5α-DHT was introduced during the crystallization, oxidoreduction of 5α-DHT occurred. The locations of A-dione and epi-ADT were identified in the steroid-binding sites of two 3α-HSD3 molecules per crystal asymmetric unit. An overlay showed that A-dione and epi-ADT were oriented upside-down and flipped relative to each other, providing structural clues for 5α-DHT reverse binding in the enzyme with the generation of different products. Moreover, we report the crystal structure of the 3α-HSD3·NADP(+)·4-dione (4-androstene-3,17-dione) complex. When a specific siRNA (100 nM) was used to suppress 3α-HSD3 expression without interfering with 3α-HSD4, which shares a highly homologous active site, the 5α-DHT concentration increased, whereas MCF7 cell growth was suppressed. The present study provides structural clues for 5α-DHT reverse binding within 3α-HSD3, and demonstrates for the first time that down-regulation of 3α-HSD3 decreases MCF7 breast cancer cell growth.

Tumor hypoxia greatly suppresses the therapeutic efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT), mainly because the generation of toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) in PDT is highly oxygen-dependent. In contrast to ROS, the generation of oxygen-irrelevant free radicals is oxygen-independent. A new therapeutic strategy based on the light-induced generation of free radicals for cancer therapy is reported. Initiator-loaded gold nanocages (AuNCs) as the free-radical generator were synthesized. Under near-infrared light (NIR) irradiation, the plasmonic heating effect of AuNCs can induce the decomposition of the initiator to generate alkyl radicals (R. ), which can elevate oxidative-stress (OS) and cause DNA damages in cancer cells, and finally lead to apoptotic cell death under different oxygen tensions. As a proof of concept, this research opens up a new field to use various free radicals for cancer therapy.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) with an additional plug (LIFT-plug) in the treatment of transsphincteric anal fistula. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Both LIFT and LIFT-plug are recently reported effective alternatives of transsphincteric anal fistula. METHODS: This multicenter prospective randomized study (NCT01478139) was conducted at 5 university hospitals throughout China. A total of 235 patients were randomly assigned to undergo LIFT (118 patients) or LIFT-plug (117 patients) between March 2011 and April 2013. The primary outcome measured was primary healing rate at 6 months postoperatively and healing time. Secondary outcomes included recurrence rate, postoperative pain, and incontinence rate. RESULTS: The LIFT procedure showed shorter operative time than the LIFT-plug procedure (26.7 min vs 28.5 min, P = 0.03). Median healing time was 22 days in LIFT-plug group vs 30 days in LIFT group (P < 0.001). The difference in visual analog scale scores across all time points was not statistically significant between the groups (P = 0.13). The primary healing rate was higher in LIFT-plug group than in LIFT group [94.0% (95% confidence interval 89.7%-98.3%) vs 83.9% (95% confidence interval 77.2%-90.6%), P < 0.001]. There were no reported incontinence and recurrence within the follow-up period of 6 months. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with transsphincteric anal fistulas, both LIFT-plug and LIFT are simple, safe, and effective procedures. LIFT-plug has the advantage of a higher healing rate, less healing time, and a lower early postoperative pain score.

BACKGROUND: Asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR) frequently occur as comorbid diseases of the upper airways. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TNFSF4 and FAM167A-BLK genes have recently been shown to be associated with various immune-related disorders. OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to determine whether TNFSF4 or FAM167A-BLK polymorphisms confer genetic susceptibility to asthma and AR in a Han Chinese population. METHODS: We performed a case-control study of 290 asthmatic children and 252 healthy controls. Nine SNPs in the TNFSF4 region (rs1234313, rs1234314, rs1234315, rsl 2039904, rs844648 and rsl 0912580) and the FAM167A-BLK region (rs2254546, rs13277113 and rs1600249) were detected using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assay. RESULTS: This study revealed that three SNPs in TNFSF4 (rsl 234313, rsl 234314 and rsl 234315) and two SNPs in FAM167A-BLK (rs2254546 and rsl 600249) were significantly correlated with asthma and AR, while SNP rsl600249 was associated with asthma without allergic rhinitis as a risk factor. Further, we demonstrated synergistic effects between the TNFSF4 and FAM167A-BLK SNPs. CONCLUSION: This study supports that the SNPs in TNFSF4 and FAM167A-BLK may be involved in asthma and AR gene risk in the Han Chinese cohort.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols, collectively known as tocochromanols, are lipid-soluble molecules that belong to the group of vitamin E compounds. Among them, α-tocopherol (αΤ) is one of the antioxidants with diverse functions and benefits for humans and animals. Thus, understanding the genetic basis of these traits would be valuable to improve nutritional quality by breeding in rice. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) has emerged as a powerful strategy for identifying genes or quantitative trait loci (QTL) underlying complex traits in plants. To discover the genes or QTLs underlying the naturally occurring variations of αΤ content in rice, we performed GWAS using 1.44 million high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphisms acquired from re-sequencing of 137 accessions from a diverse rice core collection. Thirteen candidate genes were found across 2-year phenotypic data, among which gamma-tocopherol methyltransferase (OsγTMT) was identified as the major factor responsible for the αΤ content among rice accessions. Nucleotide variations in the coding region of OsγTMT were significantly associated with the αΤ content variations, while nucleotide polymorphisms in the promoter region of OsγTMT also could partly demonstrate the correlation with αΤ content variations, according to our RNA expression analyses. This study provides useful information for genetic factors underlying αΤ content variations in rice, which will significantly contribute the research on αΤ biosynthesis mechanisms and αΤ improvement of rice.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to introduce zone exploration of the trigeminal nerve and decompression techniques for different types of vasculars. METHODS: The trigeminal nerve was sectioned into 5 zones. Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 was located at the rostral, caudal, ventral, and dorsal part of the nerve root entry zone (REZ) respectively, and zone 5 was located at the distal of the nerve root. This study contained 86 patients with trigeminal neuralgia underwent microvascular decompression. Every zone was exposed through preoperative imaging. During the operation, offending vessels were explored from zone 1 to zone 5, and different decompression techniques were used for different types of vessels. RESULTS: Through zone exploration, the sensitivity of preoperative imaging was 96.5% and specificity was 100%. Location of the neurovascular conflict was in the zone 1 in 53.5% of the patients, zone 2 in 32.6%, zone 3 in 45.3%, zone 4 in 29.1%, and zone 5 in 34.9%. In total, 2 zones were both involved in 59.3%, and 3 zones were involved in 18.6%. All offending arteries were moved away and interposed with Teflon sponge. Offending veins of 11 patients were too small to interpose, and coagulated and cut was adopted. The other offending veins were interposed with wet gelatin and Teflon sponge, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Zone exploration is helpful in finding offending vessels and adequate decompression can be achieved by choosing different methods according to different types of offending vessels.

BACKGROUND: T helper type 9 cells (Th9) are the most recently discovered subset of Th cells, and are involved in the pathology of several autoimmune and allergic diseases. The significance of Th9 cells in allergic rhinitis (AR) in Chinese patients is unclear. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the possible role of Th9 cells in AR in Chinese patients. METHODS: Th9 cells and related factors were assessed by measuring levels of interleukin-9 (IL-9), PU.1, interferon-regulatory factor 4 (IRF4), and numbers of Th9 cells. A Th9-polarized milieu was evaluated by determining the levels of IL-4 and transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1). Disease severity was assessed by rhino-conjunctivitis quality of life questionnaires (RQLQ), visual analog scale scores (VAS), and peripheral eosinophils (EOS) count. RESULTS: Levels of IL-4 and TGF-ß1 were elevated in AR groups versus healthy controls (P < 0.05). Levels of IL-9, PU.1, IRF4, and the numbers of Th9 cells were also significantly higher in the AR groups (P < 0.05). Furthermore, positive correlations were identified between IL-9 levels and EOS expression, RQLQ, and VAS scores (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Th9 cells and their relative factors were elevated in AR patients. Levels of Th9 polarization-related factors were much higher in AR patients, and the severity of disease was associated with a more severe Th9 response. These results suggest that AR patients present a favorable environment for Th9 differentiation, and that Th9 cells may play a crucial role in the pathology of AR in Chinese patients.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell meningioma (CCM) is a rare meningioma, with radiologic features not well characterized in literature. The purpose of this study was to describe and characterize the clinical features and imaging findings of CCM. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The computed tomography (n = 16) and magnetic resonance (n = 23) images of 23 patients (12 men and 11 women; mean age, 34.6 years) were retrospectively reviewed. All of the patients underwent surgical resection. Follow-up was performed through clinical observations. RESULTS: Cerebellopontine angle was the most frequently presenting location (n = 10). The tumors were isointense (n = 12) or hypointense but associated with isointense (n = 7) appearance to gray matter on T1-weighted images. However, the tumors seemed to be isointense (n = 6) or isointense and hyperintense (n = 13) on T2-weighted images. On gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted images, heterogeneous enhancement was seen in 14 lesions. Four lesions had amorphous calcifications, 18 showed peritumoral edema, 14 had cystic areas, 2 had bone hyperostosis, and 8 manifested bone destruction. On initial surgery, 17 patients underwent complete resection, whereas 5 patients underwent subtotal resection of their tumors. The operative result for the remaining patient was unknown. Follow-up was possible in 22 patients. Eleven patients had recurrence and 2 had died. CONCLUSIONS: Clear cell meningioma is a rare subtype of meningioma that occurs in younger patients and often recurs. Cerebellopontine angle is the most affected area in this series. The extent of initial surgical resection is the most important prognostic factor. In radiological studies, CCM tends to have marked heterogeneous enhancement, prominent peritumoral edema, intratumoral cystic components, and involvement of the adjacent bone.
