RESUMEN

The flow cytometer has become a powerful and widely accepted measurement device in both biological studies and clinical diagnostics. The application of the flow cytometer in emerging point-of-care scenarios, such as instant detection in remote areas and emergency diagnosis, requires a significant reduction in physical dimension, cost, and power consumption. This requirement promotes studies to develop portable flow cytometers, mostly based on the utilization of polymer microfluidic chips. However, due to the relatively poor optical performance of polymer materials, existing microfluidic flow cytometers are incapable of accurate blood analysis, such as the four-part leukocyte differential count, which is necessary to monitor the immune system and to assess the risk of allergic inflammation or viral infection. To address this issue, an ultraportable flow cytometer based on an all-glass microfluidic chip (AG-UFCM) has been developed in this study. Compared with that of a typical commercial flow cytometer (BD FACSAria III), the volume of the AG-UFCM was reduced by 90 times (from 720 to 8 L). A two-step laser processing was employed to fabricate an all-glass microfluidic chip with a surface roughness of less than 1 nm, significantly improving the optical performance of on-chip micro-lens. The signal-to-noise ratio was enhanced by 3 dB, compared with that of polymer materials. For the first time, a four-part leukocyte differential count based on single fluorescence staining was realized using a miniaturized flow cytometer, laying a foundation for the point-of-care testing of miniaturized flow cytometers.

To observe the functions of Gualou Xiebai Banxia decoction(GXBD) on regulating lipid metabolism, anti-oxidation, and interposing ox-LDL/Lox-1 pathway, and to explore its anti-atherosclerosis (AS) mechanisms. AS models were established by using 42 Apo-E-/- male mice with high fat diet. AS model mice were randomly divided into the model group, simvastatin group, and GXBD high and low dose groups. C57BL/6J male mice were used as the normal control group, n=10 and the treatment lasted for 8 weeks. The levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, SOD, MDA, GSH-px, and ox-LDL in blood serum were tested 24 h after the last administration. The changes of aortic tissues structure were observed by HE staining; the expression levels of Lox-1 protein and the expression levels of mRNA were detected by Western blot and PCR respectively.Results showed that the blood lipid levels and MDA, ox-LDL levels in blood serum of model group were significantly higher than those in the normal control group, but SOD, GSH-px levels were significantly lower than those in the normal control group, and the Lox-1 protein and mRNA expression levels were also significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05), namely aortic atherosclerosis lesions were obvious in model group.The levels of blood lipid and MDA, ox-LDL of GXBD high and low dose groups and simvastatin group were significantly lower than those in model group, while SOD, GSH-px levels were significantly higher than those in model group, and Lox-1 protein and mRNA expression levels were significantly lower than those in model group(P<0.05), namely the aortic atherosclerosis lesions were significantly relieved. The above results indicated that GXBD was capable of modulating blood lipid, anti-oxidation, and inhibiting the expression of Lox-1, and interposing ox-LDL/Lox-1 pathway in the AS model Apo-E-/- mice, which may be one of the mechanisms of anti-atherosclerosis.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of needling acupoints (bilateral vs unilateral) with De Qi using data collected from 501 primary dysmenorrhea (PD) patients participating in multi-center, randomized, controlled trail. METHODS: De Qi was defined as at least one of the feelings in soreness, numbness, fullness or heaviness at the acupoints when stimulated with needles. The 501 patients were grouped in 3 groups in terms of De Qi or not De Qi in one side (unilateral) or both sides (bilateral) of the body: bilateral De Qi group, unilateral De Qi group, and non-De Qi group. The abdominal pains were measured using visual analog scale (VAS). RESULTS: In 501 patients, 472 acquired De Qi at unilateral acupoints, 24 De Qi at bilateral acupoint, and 5 had no De Qi at any acupoint. The data of non-De Qi group was excluded as the sample was less than 5% of that in the bilateral De Qi group. There was significant difference in the VAS before and after treatment between unilateral and bilateral De Qi group (P < 0.01). After stratified by acupoints, for the patients needled at Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Xuanzhong (GB 39), VAS scores in the bilateral De Qi group were larger than those in the unilateral De Qi group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Bilateral De Qi was possibly superior to unilateral De Qi in enhancing the immediate analgesic effect of needling the acupoints, but no statistical significance was observed on the patients of needling at non acupoint, which preliminarily suggested this immediate analgesic effect was perhaps along meridians.

OBJECTIVE: To review and discuss the Chinese and English literature on the use of pain-related evoked potentials (PREP) and short-latency somatosensory EP (SLSEP) in acupuncture research. METHODS: China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database and MEDLINE were searched for the following key words: acupuncture and PREP or SLSEP. RESULTS: Thirty-seven articles were included in the review. Researchers usually use PREPs to study the analgesic effect of acupuncture, observe influential factors, or for mechanistic exploration. In the SLSEP studies, researchers focused on response characteristics of acupuncture, acupoint specificity, and influential factors of the treatment. There were some problems with the study design and conclusions. CONCLUSION: Researchers could use PREP and SLSEP to objectively validate the effects of acupuncture and explore its mechanisms using nerve electrophysiology. Further studies can benefit from observing more acupoints' effects using PREPs or SLSEPs and investigating the placebo effect of acupuncture.

Background: Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medicine approach, stimulates blood circulation by burning wormwood at acupuncture points and is frequently used in conjunction with acupuncture for managing knee osteoarthritis. This review aims to compare the effectiveness of moxibustion and acupuncture in the management of knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Our team conducted a comprehensive search across several databases: PubMed Central, EMBASE, MEDLINE, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the Cochrane Library, covering the timeframe from January 1964 up until April 2022. We implemented a meta-analysis, utilizing a random-effects model, and we've presented the pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) and risk ratio (RR) inclusive of the 95% confidence intervals (CIs), in accordance with the nature of the outcome. Results: 21 studies were included, of which, half were identified as having high risk of bias. The pooled SMD for the pain score was found to be -0.53 (95% CI: -0.91 to -0.15). In-depth analysis focusing on the kind of moxibustion indicated that fire needle moxibustion was more effective in pain reduction (SMD = -0.56; 95% CI: -1.10 to -0.01) compared to alternative moxibustion methods (SMD = -0.47; 95% CI: -0.80 to -0.13). The pooled RR for the success rate in treatment was 1.39 (95% CI: 1.19 to 1.62). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that fire needle moxibustion reported a superior success rate (RR = 1.43; 95% CI: 1.19 to 1.72) in comparison to other types of moxibustion (RR = 1.33; 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.74). Conclusion: Moxibustion, specifically fire needle moxibustion, demonstrated superior effectiveness in managing knee osteoarthritis compared to acupuncture.

OBJECTIVES: Arsenic is one of the greatest hazards as an environmental carcinogen. At the same time it is also a promising anticancer agent, that can be used to treat acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and some other tumors. Arsenic trioxide (ATO) exerts its therapeutic effect by promoting degradation of an oncogenic protein that drives the growth of APL cells. However, the molecular mechanisms that govern these paradoxical effects of arsenic in bladder cancer remain unclear. We speculate that they share the common mechanism that arsenic binds to the target proteins and subsequently impacts the expression of downstream genes. METHODS: To address this issue, three Gene Set Enrichments (GSE) were loaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database with four expression matrices. Three of them were mice samples at exposure times of 1, 2, and 12 weeks, and the last was a human urothelial cell (HUC1) sample. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from 4 expression groups were identified at iDEP and analyzed at Metascape and Cytoscape for signaling pathway analysis and protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis. The web-portals UALCAN and GEPIA were used to analyze the role of DEGs in the crosstalk between carcinogenic and anticancer effects. The putative downstream genes of arsenic binding proteins were retrieved using the Cistrome Data Browser. Real-time PCR was used to validate the expression of DEGs. RESULTS: The signaling pathways referred to lipid metabolism. Responses to various stimuli or hormones were overrepresented in 4 expression matrices. The PPI network emphasized the role of KRAS and TNF signaling in different groups. Furthermore, BDKRB2, FOS, NR4A1, PLAU, SH3BGRL, and F10 played an important role in the crosstalk between carcinogenic and anticancer effects in bladder cancer. Arsenic may impact the activity of ACTB, BACH1, NME2, RBBP4, PARP1, and PML by direct binding, and thus influence the expression of downstream genes such as PAX6, MLLT11, LTBP1, PCSK5, ZFP36, COL8A2, and IL1R2. CONCLUSION: Arsenic exerted carcinogenic and anticancer functions by altering the expression of crosstalk genes such as BDKRB2, FOS, NR4A1, PLAU, SH3BGRL, and F10, and these were due to arsenic binding proteins.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease, which has a complex interplay between altered immune metabolism and oxidative stress. Therefore, we aimed to determine the oxidative stress and immune-related biomarkers in AS. Differential gene expression analyses are based on the GSE100927 dataset in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), and 389 oxidative stress (OS) genes are identified based on gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). We identified 74 differentially expressed genes related to oxidative stress (DEOSGs). "CIBERSORT" and "WGCNA" R Packages were used to compare the differences in immune infiltration levels between AS and control samples. The DEOSGs (N = 74) were intersected with the key module's genes of WGCNA (N = 972), and 27 differentially expressed immune-related oxidative stress genes (DEIOSGs) were obtained. To identify the pivotal genes, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the STRING database and the Cytoscape software. MMP9, ALOX5, NCF2, NCF, and NCF4 were identified as diagnostic markers of AS, and we validated them in the GSE57691 dataset. The expression levels of the five diagnostic genes were significantly highly expressed in the AS group. Correlation analysis and single-cell analysis revealed that five diagnostic genes were mainly correlated with macrophages M1. We, respectively, intersected differentially expressed genes (DEGs) with ferroptosis gene set, necroptosis gene set, and pyroptosis gene set. The findings suggested that ALOX5 and NCF2 were differentially expressed genes of ferroptosis. High expression of five hub genes in RAW264.7 macrophages were confirmed by PCR. High ALOX5 and NCF2 expression levels in plaque tissues were confirmed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and western blotting. Our study identified that MMP9, ALOX5, NCF2, NCF1, and NCF4 were diagnostic genes of AS and associated with oxidative stress. ALOX5 and NCF2 may be involved in the formation of the necrotic core in AS by regulating macrophage ferroptosis.

The acupoint effect of Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Xuanzhong (GB 39) as well as the internal relation of Sanyinjiao (SP 6)-Xuanzhong (GB 39) were analyzed in this paper to explore the relationship between opposite acupoints and acupoint effect. It was found both Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Xuanzhong (GB 39) had acupoint effects, and the two acupoints had close relationship in acupoint effects (specificity along meridian and specificity of acupoints), acupoint-meridian relationship (anatomical locations, meridians and organs, indications). It is indicated the opposite acupoint of Sanyinjiao (SP 6)-Xuanzhong (GB 39) had related aspects in acupoint effects, which is related with acupoint effect through specificity and relationship of acupoint-meridian.

BACKGROUND: De Qi is a special sensational response upon acupuncture needling. According to traditional acupuncture theory, the treatment is "effective only after Qi arrival"; that is, De Qi is an important indicator of therapeutic efficacy and good prognosis. However, it is still disputable whether De Qi improves the efficacy of acupuncture therapy. This prospective, randomized controlled trial aims to explore the influence of De Qi induced by acupuncture on immediate and accumulated analgesic effects in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS/DESIGN: Eighty-eight patients with KOA will be recruited and randomly assigned to the De Qi group (enhanced stimulation to evoke De Qi) and the control group (weak stimulation to avoid De Qi) in the Department of Acupuncture and Physical Therapy, Beijing Luhe Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University. Each patient will receive three 30-minute sessions per week for 4 consecutive weeks and undergo a 1 month follow-up. The severity of knee pain, as measured on a 100-mm visual analog scale (where 0 indicates no pain and 100 indicates intolerable pain) will be used as the primary outcome, and the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score will be used as the secondary outcome. Both indexes will be measured before and after the 1st (for evaluating the immediate analgesic effects), 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th (for evaluating the accumulated analgesic effects) treatments and at the end of the follow-up. The intensity of the De Qi sensation will be assessed by the Chinese-Modified Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale at the end of each treatment. Side effects during the treatments will be recorded and analyzed as well. The comparisons between the De Qi group and the control group will be done by using both an intention-to-treat analysis and a per-protocol analysis. DISCUSSION: This prospective randomized controlled study will be helpful in enhancing our understanding of the analgesic effect of De Qi on patients with KOA and may provide a clinical basis for further investigation of the relationship between De Qi and the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture, thereby offering some evidence for the role of De Qi in an efficacious acupuncture therapy. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of direct moxibustion at Ganshu (BL18) on the serum concentrations of tumor specific growth factor (TSGF) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) in a rat model with precancerous lesion of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), so as to explore the mechanism of moxibustion underlying improvement of HCC. METHODS: Sixty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group (n=10), model group (n=20), prevention group 1 (n=15) and prevention group 2 (n=15). The normal rats were injected with physiological saline as blank control. At the same time, the rats of other three groups were injected with diethylnitrosamine to establish the HCC model. Direct moxibustion with grain-sized moxa was applied to bilateral Ganshu acupoint of the rats in the prevention group 1 (1 treatment course, 20 days) and prevention group 2 (2 treatment courses, 40 days), 5 doses for each acupoint, 0.5 mg/dose, once every other day. At each time point (before model establishment, the end of 1st course prevention, the end of 2nd course prevention and the end of model establishment), serum levels of TSGF and TNF-α were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, there was a remarkably increase of serum TSGF and TNF-α contents in the model group at the end of the experiment (P<0.05). At the end of the 1st course of direct moxibustion, the contents of serum TSGF and TNF-α of rats in the prevention group 1 were significantly increased compared with that of the model group (P<0.05). At the end of the 2nd course of direct moxibustion, serum TSGF and TNF-α levels of rats in the model group were higher than the normal group with significantly difference (P<0.05), and the levels of TSGF and TNF-α in the prevention group 2 were significantly reduced in comparison with the model group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: It was possible that direct moxibustion could inhibit precancerous lesion and postpone hepatocarcinogenesis, and the therapeutic effect of two courses were better than one course.

From the time of Neijing (Internal Classic) and Nanjing (Classic of Medical Problems) till the end of Qing dynasty, the medical scholars of each dynasty had taken the recognition of deqi as the subject in the stud- ies. Through the historical analysis, the content of regulating deqi was further understood in relevant ancient liter- ature. By checking the ancient works of acupuncture in each dynasty till the end of Qing dynasty, in reference to the evidences in over 10 works, such as Zhenjiu Dacheng (Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) , Zhenjing Zhinan (Instruction of Acupuncture Canon), Zhenjiu Daquan, and in association with the academic views of acupuncture masters in modern time, it was discovered that the medical scholars after the time of Neijing and Nanjing had enriched the understandings of deqi, such as the connection of cold and heat reaction, radiation to the affected site, reinforcing and reducing purpose in qi regulation. The methods of deqi regulations had, been explored till the end of Qing dynasty since the time of Neijing and Nanjing and the understandings of it were vari- ous among scholars.

A search on acupuncture Deqi was conducted using four Chinese-language biomedical databases (CNKI, Wan-Fang, VIP and CBM) and PubMed database and using keywords "Deqi" or "needle sensation" "needling feeling" "needle feel" "obtaining qi", etc. Then, a "Modern Literature Database for Acupuncture Deqi" was established by employing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, introducing the contents, data types, information structure and logic constraint of the system table fields. From this Database, detailed inquiries about general information of clinical trials, acupuncturists' experience, ancient medical works, comprehensive literature, etc. can be obtained. The present databank lays a foundation for subsequent evaluation of literature quality about Deqi and data mining of undetected Deqi knowledge.

In our previous paper, we analyzed "Deqi" in book Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic) and Nanjing (Canon of Difficult Medical Problems) from "Zhishen"(Treating mentality) and Tiaoqi (Regulating qi). In the present paper, the authors discuss the connotations of "Deqi" and related events in the later ages of the abovementioned two classic books to the later stage of the Qing Dynasty when involves about 20 classical works as Zhenjiu Dacheng ( The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion), Zhenjing Zhinan (Guide to the classics of Acupuncture), Zhenjiu Daquan (A Complete Works of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) etc. from 1) close association between "Deqi" and patients' mental activity; 2) how to wait for arrival of qi if the needling does not induce "Deqi" for the time being; 3) how to identify "qi-arrival" and then, performing suitable manipulations; 4) Deqi and shallow- or deep-needling; 5) putting more emphasis on patients' feeling and reactions, rather than the practitioners perception beneath the needle which is described in book Huangdi Neijing; and 6) not withdrawing the acupuncture needles if qi does not arrive. Generally, in the later ages, the connotations of Deqi are enriched greatly.

Acupuncturists have always paid high attention to deqi (needling sensation) in clinical. However, relationship between deqi and curative effect has not been elucidated yet. In order to have a further understanding on effect of deqi on clinical effect, through study on literature associated with deqi since the establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949, it is held that various factors can influence therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment, including whether needling sensation appears or not, the speed of deqi, the intensity of deqi, different types of sensations as well as propagated sensation along meridians (PSM). Joint launched multidisciplinary researches should be carried out to reveal the influence principle of deqi on acupuncture effect, and to lay foundations for the further studies on mechanism of deqi.

Taking Doctor HUANG Shi-ping as the representative, the school of Huang's golden needle is based on Chinese martial art. Golden needles are adopted as main tool. Attaching great importance on the combination of acupuncture and moxibustioin, it is also characterized with penetrating needling with long needles. Through the development of three generations, it once outshone other schools in the field of acupuncture, and became famous all over the world. RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: Deqi (needle sensation), is closely related to clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture in the treatment of different clinical conditions. In the present paper, the authors summarized various components or concepts of Deqi mainly in the foreign studies collected from Pubmed database. At present, foreign researches about Deqi mainly include 1) the subjects' subjective qualitative and quantitative descriptions about Deqi, 2) correlation between acupuncture stimulation induced Deqi and clinical therapeutic effects, and 3) responses of different brain regions or the connectivity of brain network shown by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during Deqi by needling different acupoints. According to the current commonly used 6 questionnaires, aching, tingling, numbness, heaviness, dull pain, throbbing, and deep pressure sensation are the most frequently seen components of Deqi of acupuncture stimulation. The factors influencing Deqi are psychological state, personal previous experience and cultural background. Regarding the degree of Deqi and clinical effects or outcomes, the conclusions are controversial. RESULTS: of fMRI analysis shows that in spite of extensive deactivation of the limbic system has been found in many studies, and the connectivity of the intrinsic brain functional networks is increased during acupuncture-induced Deqi, the significance of activation or deactivation of some brain regions remains unclear, and the related mechanisms need to be studied further. No matter activation or deactivation of different brain regions during Deqi, the most important issue is the relationship between Deqi and clinical therapeutic effects. Further studies are definitely needed.

RESUMEN

With retrieval of MEDLINE database (from Jan 2006 to Dec 2010) and supplementary search on other important literatures, 29 overseas articles that were in accord with inclusive criteria were included. The results showed that the overseas scholars issued the international standard on human acupoint locations and proposed the localization system of animal acupoint model; discovered the new acupoint structure, characteristic of acupoint microcirculation, the states of the diseases could be specifically reflected through acupoint temperature, electric resistance, pressure and pain threshold, and the specific brainstem reaction could be induced by electroacupuncture at acupoints; verified initially the effect on nausea and vomiting with the related acupuncture methods at acupoints and explained the mechanisms on the local analgesia of acupuncture at acupoints; suggested that a further study should be expected on the low electric resistance property of acupoints and the effect specificity in the treatment of disease. Additionally, they were proposed that the domestic study should focus on the symptom treatment, correct application of logic reasoning, the secondary literature study and international exchange and cooperation. It is indicated that the overseas study has made the great progression on the acupoint locations, morphological structure, biological and physical properties, pathological reaction, stimulation effect, therapeutic effect and mechanism, and it provides the references for the domestic study in terms of study clues and methods.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the influence of factors related organic on deqi in acupuncture treatment and provide scientific evidence for further research on the influencing factors of deqi sensation. METHODS: China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, VIP-Chinese scientific and technological journal database, Chinese biological medical (CBM) database and PubMed database were retrieved. There were 30 articles about the organic influencing factors of deqi and they were analyzed. RESULTS: The organic related factors which includes individual constitution, syndrome classification, physical condition, specificity of acupoint function, tolerance and psychological factors play an important part in deqi in acupancture treatment, which should be brought to the forefront for acupuncture practitioners and researchers. CONCLUSION: The organic factors are influencing the deqi sensation in many ways but most of the present studies are resting on the affirmation of the phenomenon. Further studies about organic related influencing factors on deqi should be carried out and scientific, objective indices of deqi sensation should be explored which may improve the clinical and research level of acupuncture.

With retrieval in CNKI and MEDLINE data base, the articles in Chinese and English that were written by Chinese authors, which were about the specificity of acupoint effects during "the Eleventh Five-Year (2006-2010)", are included. Researchers have studied about the specificity of acupoint effects by cerebral function imaging technique and it turns out that from the perspective of central mechanism, there are differences among aupoint stimulatory effect. The curative effect of acupoints is significantly better than that of nonacupoints, different acupoints have different curative effects, the effect of disease-related acupoints is better than that of unrelated acupoints, those above have intitally proved the existence of specificity of acupoint effects. However, part of the research results need futher summaries, analysis and promotion as well as try to avoid low-level repeat in research design.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation of "Hegu" (LI 4) and "Sanyinjiao"(SP 6; a classical delivery-facilitating acupoint recipe) at different parameters on endocrine hormone levels of late-stage pregnant rats, so as to find the better stimulation parameters for delivery facilitation. METHODS: Ninety-six female Wistar rats were randomly divided into eight groups: normal control (normal), pregnancy (model), EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz, EA-2 Hz/ 15 Hz, EA-2 Hz/30 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz, with 12 rats in each group except EA-30 Hz group (n = 10). EA stimulation (0.2 to 0. 3 mA) was delivered to bilateral LI 4 for 20 min and then bilateral SP 6 for 5 min (25 min). The contents of serum estradiol (E2), progesterone (P) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, serum E2, P and PGE2 contents were significantly increased in the pregnancy model group (P<0.01), and E2/ P level was downregulated mildly (P>0.05). Compared with the model group, the contents of serum E2 in the EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz, EA-2 Hz/15 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups, serum PGE2 contents in the EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups, and E2/P levels in the EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups were significantly increased (P<0.01, P<0.05), whereas serum P contents in the EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups were significantly down-regulated (P<0. 01, P<0. 05). The effects of EA-2 Hz/50 Hz group were significantly superior to those of EA-2 Hz/15 Hz and EA-2 Hz/ 30 Hz groups in raising serum E2 and E2/P levels (P<0.05, P<0.01). No significant differences were found among the EA-15 Hz, EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups in raising serum E2, PGE2 and E2/P levels, and among the EA-30 Hz, EA-50 Hz and EA-2 Hz/50 Hz groups in lowering serum P levels (P>0. 05). It displayed that the effects of EA at 15 Hz, 30 Hz and 2 Hz/50 Hz on the abovementioned 4 indexes were relatively better. CONCLUSION: EA of LI 4 and SP 6 at 15 Hz, 30 Hz and 2 Hz/ 50 Hz can effectively up-regulate serum E2, PGE2 and E2/P levels and down-regulate serum P content in pregnancy rats, which may contribute to its effect in promoting labor.
