RESUMEN

Micro-vibrations significantly influence the imaging quality and pointing accuracy of high-precision space-borne payloads. To mitigate this issue, vibration isolation technology must be employed to reduce the transmission of micro-vibrations to payloads. In this paper, a novel active-passive hybrid isolation (APHI) system based on a strain sensor is proposed for high-precision space payloads, and corresponding theoretical and experimental studies are implemented. First, a theoretical analysis model of the APHI system is established using a two-degrees-of-freedom system, and an integral control method based on strain sensing is presented. Then, an electromagnetic damper, active piezoelectric actuator, and strain sensor are designed and manufactured. Finally, an APHI experimental system is implemented to validate the effectiveness of electromagnetic damping and strain-sensing active control. Additionally, the control effects of acceleration, displacement, and strain sensors are compared. The results demonstrate that strain sensors can achieve effective active damping control, and the control method based on strain sensors can effectively suppress the payload response while maintaining stability. Both displacement and strain sensors exhibit superior suppression effects compared with the acceleration sensor, with the strain sensor showing greater potential for practical engineering applications than the displacement sensor.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Elevated serum uric acid is commonly associated with high triglyceride. However, the relation of triglyceride and hyperuricemia in different gender and age groups is currently not well understood. This study aimed to evaluate age- and gender-related association of high triglyceride with hyperuricemia in a subgroup of Chinese population. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed physical examination data of 24,438 subjects (12,557 men and 11,881 women) in Kaifeng, China. The alanine aminotransferase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and serum uric acid were measured in all subjects. The triglyceride was categorized into < 1.21, 1.21 ~, 1.7 ~, 2.83 ~ and >  5.6 mmol/L subgroups, and odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of hyperuricemia were calculated by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Univariate and age-adjusted analyses showed that high triglyceride was positively associated with hyperuricemia (p <  0.01). Further age-stratified analysis showed that the positive association was significant in the 20 ~, 30 ~, 40 ~, 50 ~, 60 ~ and 80 ~ age groups in men. In women, no statistically significant was found in 60 ~ and 70 ~ age groups. CONCLUSION: High triglyceride is positively associated with hyperuricemia in both men and women, and this association is age-related, especially in women.

RESUMEN

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a nonsteroidal estrogenic mycotoxin found in several food commodities worldwide. Although the toxicity of ZEA have been widely studied in a number of cell types, the mechanistic role of ZEA on apoptosis of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) remains poorly understood. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of ZEA on apoptosis of mouse ESCs and explore the signaling pathway underlying the cytotoxicity of ZEA. The results showed that ZEA treatment caused obvious apoptosis in ESCs as determined by the flow cytometry and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay. Immunoblotting and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) revealed that ZEA treatment increased the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2. The enzymatic activity assays revealed that caspases-3 and caspase-9 were activated by ZEA treatment in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, flow cytometry show that the apoptotic percentages of cells pretreated with Z-VAD-FMK and Z-LEHD-FMK were markedly reduced compared to the ZEA-treated cells. Overall, the results suggested that ZEA induced obvious apoptosis in ESCs via a Bcl-2 family and caspases-dependent signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a nonsteroidal estrogenic mycotoxin produced mainly by Fusarium. ZEA causes reproductive disorders and is both cytotoxic and genotoxic in animals; however, little is known regarding the molecular mechanism(s) leading to ZEA toxicity. Sertoli cells are somatic cells that support the development of spermatogenic cells. The objective of this study was to explore the effects of ZEA on the proliferation, apoptosis, and necrosis of rat Sertoli cells to uncover signaling pathways underlying ZEA cytotoxicity. ZEA reduced the proliferation of rat Sertoli cells in a dose-dependent manner, as indicated by a CCK8 assay, while flow cytometry revealed that ZEA caused both apoptosis and necrosis. Immunoblotting revealed that ZEA treatment increased the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, as well as the expression of FasL and caspases-3, -8, and -9, in a dose-dependent manner. Collectively, these data suggest that ZEA induced apoptosis and necrosis in rat Sertoli cells via extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic pathways. This study provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms by which ZEA exhibits cytotoxicity. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Environ Toxicol 31: 1731-1739, 2016.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Physical factors have been used to address disuse osteoporosis, but their effects and mechanism remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) and whole-body vibration (WBV) on disuse osteoporosis to increase knowledge about treating osteoporosis. METHODS: A disuse osteoporosis rat model was developed by hind-limb unloading (HU) for 6 weeks. Forty 4-month-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups and given the following interventions: HU, HU treated with PEMF (HUP), HU treated with WBV (HUW), HU treated with both PEMF and WBV (HUPW), and no intervention (controls). After 8 weeks of intervention, measurements were taken. RESULTS: HU induced a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD), whereas HUP, HUW, and HUPW increased it. Moreover, the bone resorption markers tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) and C-terminal peptide of type 1 collagen in the HU group significantly increased, whereas the osteogenesis markers osteocalcin and N-terminal propeptide of type 1 procollagen significantly decreased. The markers osteocalcin and N-terminal propeptide of type 1 procollagen significantly increased, but TRAP and C-terminal peptide of type 1 collagen significantly decreased in the HUPW, HUP, and HUW groups compared with the HU group. In particular, HUPW effectively increased osteocalcin and decreased TRAP compared with HUP and WBV. Microcomputed tomography analysis of the femur indicated that HUPW improved trabecular number, bone volume over total volume, bone surface over bone volume, trabecular separation, and the structure model index compared with HUP and that it improved bone surface over bone volume, trabecular separation, and structure model index compared with HUW. The HUPW group showed a significant increase in maximum load compared with the HUW group and a significant increase in elastic modulus compared with the HUP group. CONCLUSION: PEMF, WBV, and their combination all attenuated bone resorption and enhanced osteogenesis. WBV and the combination of treatments have great potential to improve osteogenesis compared with PEMF. In addition, HUPW significantly attenuated bone resorption compared with HUW and HUP. IMPACT: The results of this study indicated that HUPW could effectively improve disuse osteoporosis compared with HUP, given that trabecular number and bone volume over total volume are associated with disuse osteoporosis. Moreover, BMD recovered well with HUP, HUW, and HUPW but the bone structure-especially mechanical performance-did not, indicating that osteoporosis should be evaluated with BMD and mechanical performance, not with BMD in isolation.

RESUMEN

Recent advancements in electromechanical coupling effects enable electromechanical materials in soft and stretchable formats, offering unique opportunities for biomimetic applications. However, high electromechanical performance and mechanical elasticity hardly coexist in soft materials. Flexoelectricity, an electromechanical coupling between strain gradient and electric polarization, possesses great potential of strain gradient engineering and material design in soft elastomeric materials. In this work, we report a flexoelectric enhanced elastomer-based film (FEEF) with both high electromechanical capability and stretchability. The integrated strategies with biaxial pre-stretch, crosslinking density of the elastomer along with nanoparticle size, particle filling ratio and electric field charging lead to an enhanced flexoelectricity by two orders of magnitude. Furthermore, this FEEF reveals an ultrahigh electromechanical performance by flexoelectric enhancement with its mechanical design. As a representative demonstration, an ultrahigh piezoelectric-like sensing array is fabricated for multifunctional sensing applications in strain, force and vibration, verifying an equivalent piezoelectric coefficient d33 value as high as 1.42 × 104 pC N-1, and an average d33 value of 4.23 × 103 pC N-1 at a large-scale deformation range. This proposed ultra-high piezoelectric-like effect with its approach is anticipated to provide a possibility for highly tunable piezoelectric-like effect by enhanced flexoelectricity and mechanical design in elastomeric materials.

RESUMEN

Pea is a conventional grain-feed-grass crop in Tibet and the only high-protein legume in the region; therefore, it plays an important role in Tibetan food and grass security. Zinc finger-homeodomain (ZF-HD) belongs to a family of homozygous heterotypic cassette genes, which play an important role in plant growth, development, and response to adversity stress. Using a bioinformatics approach, 18 PsZF-HD family members were identified. These genes were distributed across seven chromosomes and two scaffold fragments, and evolutionary analysis classified them into two subgroups, MIF and ZHD. The MIF subgroup was subdivided into three subclasses (PsMIFⅠ-III), and the ZHD subgroup was subdivided into five subclasses (ZHDⅠ-V). The PsZF-HD members were named PsMIF1-PsMIF4 and PsZHD1-PsZHD14. Twelve conserved motifs and four conserved domains were identified from PsZF-HD family, of which MIF subgroup only contained one domain, while ZHD subgroup contained two types of domains. In addition, there were significant differences in the three-dimensional structures of the protein members of the two subgroups. Most PsZF-HD genes had no introns (13/18), and only five genes had one intron. Forty-five cis-acting elements were predicted and screened, involving four categories: light response, stress, hormone, and growth and development. Transcriptome analysis of different tissues during pea growth and development showed that PsZHD11, 8, 13, 14 and MIF4 were not expressed or were individually expressed in low amounts in the tissues, while the other 13 PsZF-HDs genes were differentially expressed and showed tissue preference, as seen in aboveground reproductive organs, where PsZHD6, 2, 10 and MIF1 (except immature seeds) were highly expressed. In the aerial vegetative organs, PsZHD6, 1, and 10 were significantly overexpressed, while in the underground root system, PsMIF3 was specifically overexpressed. The leaf transcriptome under a low-nitrogen environment showed that the expression levels of 17 PsZF-HDs members were upregulated in shoot organs. The leaf transcriptome analysis under a low-temperature environment showed stress-induced upregulation of PsZHD10 and one genes and down-regulation of PsZHD6 gene. These results laid the foundation for deeper exploration of the functions of the PsZF-HD genes and also improved the reference for molecular breeding for stress resistance in peas.

RESUMEN

Because mechanical cross coupling between its axes would lead to degradation of the scanning precision of a piezo-driven fast steering mirror (PFSM), a two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DoF) PFSM with a cross-axis decoupling capability, in which 2-DoF flexure hinges are used, is proposed in this work. The overall structure of the proposed PFSM is first introduced and then both static and dynamic models are established analytically; in addition, the decoupling mechanism is described in detail and the low dynamic cross coupling ratios that occur between the two DoFs are shown. Because of the decoupling property of the PFSM, the 2-DoF motion is treated as a combination of two independent one-degree-of-freedom (1-DoF) motions and two independent proportional-integral-derivative controllers are thus used separately in the control of the two DoFs. Based on this control strategy, experiments involving both 1-DoF trajectory tracking and 2-DoF trajectory tracking are implemented. The test results show that the proposed PFSM can achieve the tilt range of ±7 mrad for both axes with the low coupling ratios that are less than 2% (-34 dB), and the bandwidths of both axes are higher than 810 Hz; in addition, the maximal tracking full scale range errors for 1-DoF trajectory tracking and 2-DoF trajectory tracking are less than 0.2% and 1%, respectively, where the larger error of 2-DoF trajectory tracking is mainly caused by the remaining cross coupling between axes.

RESUMEN

Flexoelectric effects hold promising applications in sensing, actuating, and energy capturing, and thus it is demanded to measure the flexoelectric coefficient tensors of dielectric materials accurately. In this work, an approach to measuring the effective flexoelectric coefficient tensor component µ 2312 of polymeric materials is developed by imposing a torque load upon a half cylindrical specimen. It is proven that µ 2312 can be calculated by assessing the electric charge on the axial plane and the strain gradient along the radial direction, both induced by the torque. To overcome the difficulty in experimental measurements, the relationship between the strain gradient and torque is deduced theoretically and further verified with finite element analysis. This approach is applied to testing bars machined from bulk polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). Potential errors from the piezoelectric effects and the non-uniform strain gradient are discussed to verify the validity of the measurement. The experimental results show good reproducibility and agreement with other measured effective flexoelectric tensor components of PVDF. This work indicates a potential application of PVDF-based mechanical sensors and provides a method to investigate the effective flexoelectric coefficient component of polymers.

RESUMEN

Tilt-positioning mechanisms are required in optical systems for diverse applications. Compared to electromagnetic tilt-positioning mechanisms, piezoelectric tilters are superior with regard to high positioning resolution, cost-effectiveness, and no electromagnetic interference issues. But their applications are limited by small motion ranges. To overcome this problem, a novel piezoelectric tilt-positioning mechanism is proposed and developed in this paper, aiming to achieve a large output range in compact size. Serving this purpose, flextensional piezoelectric actuators (FPAs) are employed in this mechanism and their optimal structure is pursued. The existing approach to model and analyze the structure of FPAs is not perfect, making it challenging to exactly characterize and optimize actuator performance for its applications. To address this problem, a hybrid-body model of the FPAs is developed and based on this model, a governing equation is established to exactly and comprehensively characterize their kinematic performance. This equation allows the application requirement to be readily related to the actuator design, enabling the optimization of tilter design and the actuators. Using the optimized parameters, an experimental prototype is fabricated. This specimen achieved more than 15 mrad of angular travel at a small size of 35 × 42 × 42 mm, and the error between the analytical model and the experiment was less than 5%. These results support the accuracy of the hybrid-body model and indicate that the proposed tilter is very promising for practical applications.

RESUMEN

The object of this study was to evaluate associations between the adenosine monophosphate deaminase 1 (AMPD1) gene polymorphisms and inosine monophosphate acid (IMP) contents of chicken to provide a molecular marker for breeding. Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), g.4064G/A, g.5573A/G and g.6805G/A were detected in exons IV, VI, and VIII of the AMPD1 gene in Fast Partridge and Lingshan chickens, respectively. All were purine conversion and caused no alteration in amino acid sequence. Statistical analysis revealed that Lingshan chicken with the homozygous genotype AA at position 4064 and 6805 had a significantly greater IMP content than those with the GG genotype (P<0.05). Fast Partridge chicken with the genotype GG at position 6805 had a significantly greater IMP content compared with those with the AA genotype (P<0.05). In conclusion, the polymorphism at g.6805A/G was correlated with IMP content (P<0.05) in both Fast Partridge and Lingshan chickens. The results in our study suggest that SNP 6805A/G can be used as a possible candidate marker of IMP content of chicken.
