RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sleep disorders are associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Limited studies have focused on excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and its impact on jaw functions in TMD patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present investigation was to identify the impact of EDS on pain and jaw function in TMD patients. METHODS: A total of 338 TMD patients (50 males and 288 females) was included. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) was used to classify patients into EDS group (score ≥ 10) and non-EDS group (score < 10). The Jaw Functional Limitation Scale 8-item (JFLS-8) was used to assess the severity of jaw dysfunction. Pain intensity was evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Anxiety and depression were evaluated using the Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) and the Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item (PHQ-9). All included patients were diagnosed with pain-related TMD (PT), intra-articular TMD (IT) or combined TMD (CT). RESULTS: Compared with non-EDS patients, EDS patients exhibited more severe jaw dysfunction, greater pain intensity and higher PHQ-9 scores (p < .05). Multivariate analyses showed that EDS (B = 3.69), female gender (B = 3.69), and elevated GAD-7 score (B = 0.73) were significantly associated with an increased score on the JFLS-8 (p < .05). Moreover, bivariate logistic regression analysis indicated a significant relationship between EDS and PT (OR = 2.70, p = .007). CONCLUSION: The presence of EDS was more closely related to PT, but the causal relationship between them needs to be further confirmed. More concern and intervention to alleviate poor sleep quality might be highlighted during the treatment of TMD, especially PT subtype.

RESUMEN

The unique properties of self-healing materials hold great potential in battery systems, which can exhibit excellent deformability and return to its original shape after cycling. Herein, a Cu3 BiS3 anode material with self-healing mechanisms is proposed for use in ultrastable potassium-ion battery (PIB) and potassium-ion hybrid capacitor (PIHC). Different from the binder design, Cu3 BiS3 anode can exhibit the dual advantages of phase and morphological reversibility, further remaining original property after potassiation/depotassiation and exhibiting ultrastable cycling performance. The reversible electrochemical reconstruction during the continuous charge/discharge processes is beneficial to maintain the structure and function of the material. Furthermore, the conversion reactions during the charge and discharge process produce two advantages: i) suppressing the shuttle effect due to the formation of the heterostructure interface between Cu (111) and Bi (012); ii) Cu can avoid the agglomeration of Bi nanoparticles (NPs), further improving the electrochemical performance and long-cycle stability of the Cu3 BiS3 electrode. As a result, the Cu3 BiS3 electrode not only exhibits a long cycle life in half cells, but also 2000 cycles and 12000 cycles in PIB and PIHC full cells, respectively.

RESUMEN

Nanotechnology allows for a greater quality of life, but may also cause environmental and organismic harm. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) are one of the most commonly used metal oxide nanoparticles for commercial and industrial products. Due to its extensive use in various fields, there has already been much concern raised about the environmental health risks of ZnONPs. Many studies have investigated the toxicological profile of ZnONPs in zebrafish embryonic development; however, the specific characteristics of ZnONPs in zebrafish embryonic/larval developmental damage and their molecular toxic mechanisms of liver development are yet to be fully elucidated. This study aimed to reveal the hazard ranking of different surface modifications of ZnONPs on developing zebrafish and the toxicological mechanisms of these modified ZnONPs in liver tissue. The ~30 nm ZnONPs with amino- (NH2- ZnONPs) or carboxyl- (COOH-ZnONPs) modification were incorporated during the embryonic/larval stage of zebrafish. Severe toxicity was observed in both ZnONP groups, especially NH2-ZnONPs, which presented a higher toxicity in the low concentration groups. After prolonging the exposure time, the long-term toxicity assay showed a greater retardation in body length of zebrafish in the NH2-ZnONP group. Response data from multiple toxicity studies was integrated for the calculation of the EC50 values of bulk ZnO and ZnONPs, and the hazard levels were found to be decreasing in the order of NH2-, COOH-ZnONPs and bulk ZnO. Notably, NH2-ZnONPs induced ROS burden in the developing liver tissue, which activated autophagy-related gene and protein expression and finally induced liver cell apoptosis to reduce liver size. In conclusion, our findings are conducive to understanding the hazard risks of different surface modifications of ZnONPs in aquatic environments and will also be helpful for choosing the type of ZnONPs in future industrial applications.

RESUMEN

Human adenovirus (HAdV) infections can occur throughout the year. Cases of HAdV-associated respiratory disease have been more common in the late winter, spring, and early summer. In this study, to provide viral pollution data for further epidemiological studies and governmental actions, the presence of HAdV in the aquatic environment was quantitatively surveyed in the summer. This study was conducted to compare the efficiencies of nested-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and qPCR (quantitative PCR) for detecting HAdV in environmental waters. A total of 73 water samples were collected from Puzi River in Taiwan and subjected to virus concentration methods. In the results, qPCR had much better efficiency for specifying the pathogen in river sample. HAdV41 was detected most frequently in the river water sample (10.9%). The estimated HAdV concentrations ranged between 6.75 × 10(2) and 2.04 × 10(9) genome copies/L. Significant difference was also found in heterotrophic plate counts, conductivity, water temperature, and water turbidity between presence/absence of HAdV. HAdV in the Puzi River may pose a significant health risk.

RESUMEN

We numerically and experimentally investigated the lateral coupling between photonic crystal (PhC) nanobeam (NB) cavities, pursuing high sensitivity and figure of merit (FOM) label-free biosensor. We numerically carried out 3D finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) and the finite element method (FEM) simulations. We showed that when two PhC NB cavities separated by a small gap are evanescently coupled, the variation in the gap width significantly changes the coupling efficiency between the two coupled NB cavities and the resulting resonant frequencies split. Experimentally, we fabricated laterally-coupled PhC NB cavities using (InGaAsP) layer on the InP substrate. For sensing, we showed that the laterally coupled PhC NB cavities sensor exhibits higher sensitivity than the single PhC NB cavity. The higher sensitivity of laterally coupled PhC NB cavities is due to the strong evanescent coupling between nearby PhC NB cavities, which depends on the gap width and it is attributed to the large confinement of the electromagnetic field in the gap (air or liquid). As a result of the lateral coupling, both even (symmetric) and odd (asymmetric) modes exist. We show that even modes are more sensitive than odd modes. In addition, higher-order modes exhibit higher sensitivity. Hence, we characterized and examined the fabricated PhC NB cavity as a label-free biosensor, and it exhibits high figure of merit due to its high Q-factor. This illustrates a potentially useful method for optical sensing at nanoscale.

RESUMEN

AI Generated Content Law was extensively promoted in 2023; hence, it is crucial to uncover factors influencing people's behavioral intentions to comply with the AI Generated Content Law. This study extends the theory of planned behavior to explore the factors influencing people to follow AI Generated Content Law in China. In addition to the factors in TPB model, such as one's attitudinal factors, normative factors, and perceived behavioral control, we add another factor-moral obligation to extend the theory of planned behavior model. We used convenient sampling and there were 712 effective samples. Using the statistical software Amos17.0, the result shows that attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and moral obligation all have positive effects on intentions to follow AI Generated Content Law.

RESUMEN

Heterojunctions in electrode materials offer diverse improvements during the cycling process of energy storage devices, such as volume change buffering, accelerated ion/electron transfer, and better electrode structure integrity, however, obtaining optimal heterostructures with nanoscale domains remains challenging within constrained materials. A novel in situ electrochemical method is introduced to develop a reversible CuSe/PSe p-n heterojunction (CPS-h) from Cu3PSe4 as starting material, targeting maximum stability in potassium ion storage. The CPS-h formation is thermodynamically favorable, characterized by its superior reversibility, minimized diffusion barriers, and enhanced conversion post K+ interaction. Within CPS-h, the synergy of the intrinsic electric field and P-Se bonds enhance electrode stability, effectively countering the Se shuttling phenomenon. The specific orientation between CuSe and PSe leads to a 35° lattice mismatch generates large space at the interface, promoting efficient K ion migration. The Mott-Schottky analysis validates the consistent reversibility of CPS-h, underlining its electrochemical reliability. Notably, CPS-h demonstrates a negligible 0.005% capacity reduction over 10,000 half-cell cycles and remains stable through 2,000 and 4,000 cycles in full cells and hybrid capacitors, respectively. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of electrochemical dynamics in formulating highly stable p-n heterojunctions, representing a significant advancement in potassium-ion battery (PIB) electrode engineering.

RESUMEN

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have been extensively studied owing to the abundance and low-price of Na resources. However, the infeasibility of graphite and silicon electrodes in sodium-ion storage makes it urgent to develop high-performance anode materials. Herein, α-MnSe nanorods derived from δ-MnO2 (δ-α-MnSe) are constructed as anodes for SIBs. It is verified that α-MnSe will be transferred into ß-MnSe after the initial Na-ion insertion/extraction, and δ-α-MnSe undergoes typical conversion mechanism using a Mn-ion for charge compensation in the subsequent charge-discharge process. First-principles calculations support that Na-ion migration in defect-free α-MnSe can drive the lattice distortion to phase transition (alpha → beta) in thermodynamics and dynamics. The formed ß-MnSe with robust lattice structure and small Na-ion diffusion barrier boosts great structure stability and electrochemical kinetics. Hence, the δ-α-MnSe electrode contributes excellent rate capability and superior cyclic stability with long lifespan over 1000 cycles and low decay rate of 0.0267% per cycle. Na-ion full batteries with a high energy density of 281.2 Wh·kg-1 and outstanding cyclability demonstrate the applicability of δ-α-MnSe anode.

RESUMEN

This study established and investigated continuous macular pigment (MP) production with a lutein (L):zeaxanthin (Z) ratio of 4-5:1 by an MP-rich Chlorella sp. CN6 mutant strain in a continuous microalgal culture module. Chlorella sp. CN6 was cultured in a four-stage module for 10 days. The microalgal culture volume increased to 200 L in the first stage (6 days). Biomass productivity increased to 0.931 g/L/day with continuous indoor white light irradiation during the second stage (3 days). MP content effectively increased to 8.29 mg/g upon continuous, indoor white light and blue light-emitting diode irradiation in the third stage (1 day), and the microalgal biomass and MP concentrations were 8.88 g/L and 73.6 mg/L in the fourth stage, respectively. Using a two-step MP extraction process, 80 % of the MP was recovered with a high purity of 93 %, and its L:Z ratio was 4-5:1.

RESUMEN

This study applied the theory of stimulus-organism-response to test the role of green animation advertising influencing green brand love and green customer citizenship behavior. We used questionnaire survey and the target are those who having the experience of seeing the Apple's animation advertisement "Earth Day" in China. Finally there were 516 effective samples gathered for analysis. The result indicated that reliability, attractiveness and informativity are the antecedents of green brand love. Green brand love is positively related to green customer citizenship behavior. In addition, the result confirmed the significant mediating effect of green brand love between reliability, attractiveness, informativity and green customer citizenship behavior. This research was conducted only in Apple's animation case. Hence, the results may not be generalizable to other contexts. Future research can apply the experimental methods and manipulate different forms of green advertising animation to generalize the findings in this area.

RESUMEN

Two-dimensional MnPSe3 Van der Waals stacked in an ABC sequence has abundant and low-cost Mn resources, but has yet to exhibit expected performance as an electrode material in battery devices. Here, we report a 2D/2D composite consisting of few layer MnPSe3 nanosheets and graphite through a high energy ball milling method for uses on the anodes alkali metal-ion batteries, including lithium ion battery (LIB) and potassium ion battery (PIB). These unique 2D/2D layer nanostructures, with MnPSe3 layers hierarchically stacked in graphite, can successfully overcome the severe aggregation due to restacking during charge/discharge cycles. Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that the band gap of the MnPSe3/graphite hybrid is as low as 0.07 eV, confirming that the combination of MnPSe3 and graphite efficiently reduces the ion migration energy barrier. As a result, MnPSe3/graphite stacking composites achieve a discharge capacity of 488.1 mA h g-1 after 500 cycles at 2000 mA g-1 in LIB, and 236.7 mA h g-1 after 700 cycles at 250 mA g-1 in PIB. Moreover, the analysis of electrochemical, kinetics, reactions mechanism, DFT, and full cell applications were investigated deeply. This work strongly supports the possibility of MnPSe3/graphite hybrid as a promising candidate for alkali ion batteries, and makes important improvements for the application of two-dimensional MPCh3 layer materials in storage systems.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to investigate the use of organic fertilizers instead of modified f/2 medium for Chlorella sp. cultivation, and the extracted lutein of the microalga to protect mammal cells against blue-light irradiation. The biomass productivity and lutein content of Chlorella sp. cultured in 20 g/L fertilizer medium for 6 days were 1.04 g/L/d and 4.41 mg/g, respectively. These values are approximately 1.3- and 1.4-fold higher than those achieved with the modified f/2 medium, respectively. The cost of medium per gram of microalgal biomass reduced by about 97%. The microalgal lutein content was further increased to 6.03 mg/g in 20 g/L fertilizer medium when supplemented with 20 mM urea, and the cost of medium per gram lutein reduced by about 96%. When doses of ≥1 µM microalgal lutein were used to protect mammal NIH/3T3 cells, there was a significant reduction in the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by the cells in the following blue-light irradiation treatments. The results show that microalgal lutein produced by fertilizers with urea supplements has the potential to develop anti-blue-light oxidation products and reduce the economic challenges of microalgal biomass applied to carbon biofixation and biofuel production.

RESUMEN

Metal sulfide, being a high-capacity anode material, is a promising anode material for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, most research efforts have focused on improving their low cycling performance due to multiple combined factors, including low conductivity, huge volume changes, multi-step conversion/alloying reactions, and redox shuttling effect, during the cycling process. Here, we report that by using AgSbS2 nanowires as LIB anode materials, a record-breaking long cycle life metal sulfide anode has been achieved through the silver synergistic electrochemical performance effect. We found that while the AgSbS2 nanowire anode is cycled, Ag precipitated out to form a nanocrystal tightly connected with Sb and S and plays a key role in highly-reversible electrochemical performance. Ag can effectively enhance the electrode conductivity, increase ion diffusion rate, serve a diluent huge volume changes during conversion-alloying reactions, improve the absorbability and catalytic ability towards LiPSs to reduce shutting effect of sulfur, and enhanced Li+ adsorption. As a result, AgSbS2 nanowire anodes maintain 90% capacity retention over 5000 and 7000 cycles at the current densities of 500 mA g-1 and 2000 mA g-1, respectively, whereas the capacities of Sb2S3 nanowire and Sb2S3/C nanowire anodes drop rapidly within 10 cycles. The ultra-stable cycle life is superior to the state-of-the-art metal sulfide anodes. Finally, using AgSbS2 nanowires as the anode combined with the cathode LiNi5Co3Mn2, a full battery after 480 cycles was assembled to verify that its stability (high retention rate of 99.5%) can be used in the current commercial battery architecture. This work solves multiple problems related to shuttling effects and complex reactions of metal sulfide anodes, and provides important progress for the future development of metal sulfide anodes for LIBs.

RESUMEN

Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) can foster organizational competitiveness and survival especially, facing a rapidly changing environment. There are some empirical pieces of research that shed light on the effects of OCB on extrinsic rewards, since OCB, through performance appraisal, affects extrinsic rewards which will influence OCB as well. However, researchers have overlooked the reverse effect of extrinsic rewards (i.e., positive verbal rewards) on OCB. It is necessary to explore the mechanism between positive verbal rewards and OCB. This study integrated psychological ownership and affective commitment to form a structural model based on social exchange theory and cognitive evaluation theory. These results show that positive verbal rewards are positively correlated with psychological ownership, psychological ownership is positively correlated with affective commitment and OCB, and affective commitment is positively correlated with OCB. As refers to the mediating effects, psychological ownership fully mediates the relationship between positive verbal rewards and affective commitment. Furthermore, affective commitment plays a partial mediating role in the effect of psychological ownership on OCB. Accordingly, this psychological mechanism between positive verbal rewards and OCB reveals important theoretical and practical implications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Stem cell therapy has been proven as one of the promising strategies for treating spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the role of peripheral blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PBMSCs) in animal models of SCI has not been fully uncovered. This study aimed to investigate whether transplanted PBMSCs could inhibit neuroinflammation and then promote the functional recovery by shifting the microglia/macrophages phenotype from M1 to M2 at the site of injury after SCI. METHODS: PBMSCs harvested from peripheral blood were analyzed by morphology and phenotype. Rat models of SCI were administrated with PBMSCs 1 week after injury. Inclined plane test and Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) scores were used for assessing the functional recovery. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and flow cytometry (FCM) were performed on days 3, 7, 14, 28 and 56 after PBMSCs transplantation. RESULTS: PBMSCs were plastic-adherent and fibroblast-like with positive expression of cluster of differentiation (CD)29, CD90 and CD44. ELISA and RT-qPCR both showed a lower expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α while a higher expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1 after PBMSCs transplantation. This was associated with increased numbers of M2 microglia/macrophages and decreased numbers of M1 microglia/macrophages. These changes taken together were associated with the functional recovery in PBMSCs groups. CONCLUSIONS: Administration of PBMSCs following SCI may provide an anti-inflammatory and reparative micro-environment for locomotive recovery by shifting microglia/macrophages phenotype from M1 towards M2.

RESUMEN

We reported that a stable carbon ink composed of conductive carbon materials (graphene and super P), binder (sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)), interface active agent (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)), and metal coupling agent ((3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES)) for using in coating conducting layer on cathode/anode current collector for LIBs. Graphene materials are obtained using a low-cost graphite material (KS 6) and processing it via a wet ball-milling to exfoliate single layers into the ink. The ink can be coated on the LIB current collector in a large area by a doctor blade to form a carbon layer of about 1 µm without overflow. Carbon-coated current collectors have amphiphilic properties, not peel off under extreme physical and chemical conditions, and resist oxidation under high temperature (200 °C) processing conditions. In addition, carbon-coated current collector are superior to the batteries using bare metal foil a current collectors in the LIB performance of graphite half-cell, graphite full-cell, LiFePO4 half-cell, and silicon-carbon full-cell. These results show that the carbon-coated metal foil can reduce the interface resistance with the active material and improves the adhesion of the active materials to the current collector, avoiding peeling off during charge/discharge process, thereby improving of LIBs performance. The developed method can produce high-quality, low-cost carbon material inks on a large scale through a simple and inexpensive process, and coat them evenly and finely on current collectors, making it possible to achieve efficient industrial and commercial perspectives for next-generation LIB-based current collectors.

RESUMEN

Transected axons are unable to regenerate after spinal cord injury (SCI). Glial scar is thought to be responsible for this failure. Regulating the formation of glial scar post-SCI may contribute to axonal regrow. Over the past few decades, studies have found that the interaction between immune cells at the damaged site results in a robust and persistent inflammatory response. Current therapy strategies focus primarily on the inhibition of subacute and chronic neuroinflammation after the acute inflammatory response was executed. Growing evidences have documented that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) engraftment can be served as a promising cell therapy for SCI. Numerous studies have shown that MSCs transplantation can inhibit the excessive glial scar formation as well as inflammatory response, thereby facilitating the anatomical and functional recovery. Here, we will review the effects of inflammatory response and glial scar formation in spinal cord injury and repair. The role of MSCs in regulating neuroinflammation and glial scar formation after SCI will be reviewed as well.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Non-traumatic bowel perforation caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections has become rare among patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in the era of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART); however, CMV-associated and MAC-related immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) has subsequently emerged owing to the wide use of integrase inhibitor-based regimens. Here we report a case of spontaneous perforation of the jejunum in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection with good compliance to cART. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 32-year-old HIV-infected man developed CMV disease and DMAC infection, as unmasking IRIS, 3 days after the initiation of cART. After appropriate treatment for opportunistic infections, intermittent fever with enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen occurred as paradoxical IRIS. The patient was administered prednisolone with subsequent tapering according to his clinical condition. DIAGNOSES: Unexpected perforation of hollow organ during the titration of steroid dose with clinical presentations of severe abdominal pain was diagnosed by chest radiography. INTERVENTIONS: He underwent surgical repair with peritoneal toileting smoothly. OUTCOMES: He was discharged well with a clean surgical wound on post-operative day 10. LESSONS: Bowel perforation may be a life-threatening manifestation of IRIS in the era of cART. Steroids should be avoided, if possible, to decrease the risk of bowel perforation, especially in IRIS occurred after opportunistic diseases involving the gastrointestinal tract.
