RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The number of citations that an article has received reflects its impact on the scientific community. The purpose of our study was to identify and characterize the 51 most-cited articles in pediatric imaging. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Based on the database of Journal Citation Reports, we selected 350 journals that were considered as potential outlets for pediatric imaging articles. The Web of Science search tools were used to identify the most-cited articles relevant to pediatric imaging within the selected journals. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: The 51 most-cited articles in pediatric imaging were published between 1952 and 2011, with 1980-1989 and 2000-2009 producing 15 articles, each. The number of citations ranged from 576-124 and the number of annual citations ranged from 49.05-2.56. The majority of articles were published in pediatric and related journals (N.=26), originated in the USA (N.=23), were original articles (N.=45), used MRI as imaging modality (N.=27), and were concerned with the subspecialty of brain (N.=34). University College London School of Medicine (N.=6) and School of Medicine University of California (N.=4) were the leading institutions and Reynolds EO (N.=7) was the most voluminous author. CONCLUSIONS: Our study presents a detailed list and an analysis of the most-cited articles in the field of pediatric imaging, which provides an insight into historical developments and allows for recognition of the important advances in this field.

RESUMEN

A Gram-staining-negative, motile, aerobic and rod-shaped bacterial strain, PAMC 27157T, was isolated from a melt pond on sea ice in the Chukchi Sea. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain PAMC 27157T revealed an affiliation to the genus Aureimonas with the closest sequence similarity (96.2 %) to that of Aureimonas phyllosphaerae. Strain PAMC 27157T grew optimally at 30 °C and pH 7.0 in the presence of 3.5 % (w/v) NaCl. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerol and an unidentified aminolipid. The major cellular fatty acid was summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c, 83.1 %) and the major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The genomic DNA G+C content was 69.1 mol%. The combined phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data showed that strain PAMC 27157T could be clearly distinguished from species of the genus Aureimonas with validly published names. Thus, strain PAMC 27157T should be classified as representing a novel species in the genus Aureimonas, for which the name Aureimonas glaciistagni sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is PAMC 27157T ( = KCCM 43049T = JCM 30183T).

RESUMEN

AIM: Memantine is known to be effective in the treatment of the behavioral symptoms of dementia, especially agitation in moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, memantine and rivastigmine patch combination therapy has not been well studied in determining treatment effectiveness with mild to moderate AD patients. METHODS: This was a multicenter, 24-week, prospective, randomized, open-label study design. A total 147 AD patients with Mini-Mental State Examination scores from 10 to 20 were randomly assigned to rivastigmine patch monotherapy and combination therapy with memantine groups. Agitation symptoms, using the Korean Version of the Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory were evaluated at baseline and at study end. Suppression and emergence of agitation symptoms were also evaluated. We carried out factor analyses to evaluate the interrelationship of agitation symptoms and to investigate treatment response in these symptoms. RESULTS: Factor analyses showed two symptom clusters: factor A - aggressive agitated behaviors - versus factor B - non-aggressive agitated behaviors. The rivastigmine patch monotherapy group showed significantly decreased factor B scores and had a tendency of decreased Korean Version of the Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory total scores and factor A scores. Conversely, the combination therapy group showed significantly increased Korean Version of the Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory total scores and factor B scores. Neither monotherapy nor combination therapy reduced the emergence of new agitation symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: In this trial of mild to moderate AD patients, the rivastigmine patch monotherapy group experienced a reduction of non-aggressive agitated behaviors. However, combination therapy with memantine did not show any benefit on the agitation associated with mild to moderate AD. Geriatr Gerontol Int 2017; 17: 494-499.
