SignificanceSemiconductor interfaces are among the most important in use in modern technology. The properties they exhibit can either enable or disable the characteristics of the materials they connect for functional performance. While much is known about important junctions involving conventional semiconductors such as Si and GaAs, there are several unsolved mysteries surrounding interfaces between oxide semiconductors. Here we resolve a long-standing issue concerning the measurement of anomalously low dielectric constants in SrTiO3 films with record high electron mobilities. We show that the junction between doped and undoped SrTiO3 required to make dielectric constant measurements masks the dielectric properties of the undoped film. Through modeling, we extract the latter and show that it is much higher than previously measured.

An effective method was explored for the selective synthesis of sulfonamides and sulfenamides using sodium sulfinates and amines as starting materials. This method offers mild reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, high efficiency, and readily accessible materials, making it suitable and an alternative strategy for the preparation of a variety of biologically or pharmaceutically active compounds.

RESUMEN

C-O bond formation via C-H alkoxylation remains a challenge, especially coupling with a secondary alcohol, due to its low activity and sterically encumbered property. Here, we report a general and effective cobalt-catalyzed oxidative cross-coupling of benzamides with secondary alcohols via C-H alkoxylation reaction under solvothermal conditions, enabled by a salicylaldehyde/cobalt complex. The protocol features easy operation without additives, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional tolerance. The applicability is proven by the gram-scale synthesis and modification of natural products.

RESUMEN

A straight and efficient protocol for the synthesis of hindered indole-ethers via C-H alkoxylation of indoles was developed by a cobalt-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction with secondary alcohols. The selection of the salicylaldehyde-Co(II) catalyst enables the reaction to proceed under conditions without acid or base addition in the presence of limited alcohols. The protocol has broad substrate scope for both indole and secondary alcohols and exhibits good functional tolerance. The synthetic applications are proven by gram-scale reaction and further diversification of the product. Preliminary mechanistic investigations indicate that the activation of C-H bonds is not the rate-determining step of the reaction.

BACKGROUND: Lack of social support is a known predictor of the prognosis after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Although as a common factor associated with social support, there are limited data on long-term prognostic impact of living status in young and middle-aged patients with AMI. METHODS: We analyzed data from the China Acute Myocardial Infarction (CAMI) Registry, consecutive AMI young and middle-aged patients admitted at 108 hospitals in China between January 2013 and September 2014 were included. Eligible patients were assigned to living alone and not living alone groups based on their living status. The primary endpoint was 2-year all-cause mortality. The secondary endpoints included in-hospital mortality and 2-year major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs; a composite of all-cause mortality, MI, or stroke). Multilevel logistic and multilevel Cox regression models were used to evaluate the effect of living status on short-term and long-term outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 8307 consecutive AMI young and middle-aged patients were included, 192 (2.3%) patients were living alone. Of the analyzed patients, living alone was associated with 2-year all-cause mortality and MACCEs among all analyzed patients after multivariate adjustment (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] = 2.171 [1.210-3.895], P = 0.009; adjusted HR = 2.169 [1.395-3.370], P = 0.001), but not with poorer in-hospital mortality. CONCLUSIONS: The analysis suggested that living alone was associated with both 2-year all-cause mortality and MACCEs in AMI young and middle-aged patients but did not show an extra effect on the in-hospital mortality after covariate adjustment. BACKGROUND: Patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) exhibit a distinct gut microbiota profile; however, the causal association between gut microbiota, associated metabolites, and PAH remains elusive. We aimed to investigate this causal association and to explore whether dietary patterns play a role in its regulation. METHODS: Summary statistics of gut microbiota, associated metabolites, diet, and PAH were obtained from genome-wide association studies. The inverse variance weighted method was primarily used to measure the causal effect, with sensitivity analyses using the weighted median, weighted mode, simple mode, MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO), and MR-Egger methods. A reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis was also performed. RESULTS: Alistipes (odds ratio [OR] = 2.269, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.100-4.679, P = 0.027) and Victivallis (OR = 1.558, 95% CI 1.019-2.380, P = 0.040) were associated with an increased risk of PAH, while Coprobacter (OR = 0.585, 95% CI 0.358-0.956, P = 0.032), Erysipelotrichaceae (UCG003) (OR = 0.494, 95% CI 0.245-0.996, P = 0.049), Lachnospiraceae (UCG008) (OR = 0.596, 95% CI 0.367-0.968, P = 0.036), and Ruminococcaceae (UCG005) (OR = 0.472, 95% CI 0.231-0.962, P = 0.039) protected against PAH. No associations were observed between PAH and gut microbiota-derived metabolites (trimethylamine N-oxide [TMAO] and its precursors betaine, carnitine, and choline), short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), or diet. Although inverse variance-weighted analysis demonstrated that elevated choline levels were correlated with an increased risk of PAH, the results were not consistent with the sensitivity analysis. Therefore, the association was considered insignificant. Reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis demonstrated that PAH had no causal impact on gut microbiota-derived metabolites but could contribute to increased the levels of Butyricicoccus and Holdemania, while decreasing the levels of Clostridium innocuum, Defluviitaleaceae UCG011, Eisenbergiella, and Ruminiclostridium 5. CONCLUSIONS: Gut microbiota were discovered suggestive evidence of the impacts of genetically predicted abundancy of certain microbial genera on PAH. Results of our study point that the production of SCFAs or TMAO does not mediate this association, which remains to be explained mechanistically.

Beauveria bassiana is one of the most extensively studied entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) and is widely used as a biocontrol agent against various insect pests. Proteins containing the MARVEL domain are conserved in eukaryotes, typically with four transmembrane structures. In this study, we identified the five MARVEL domain proteins in B. bassiana. Five MARVEL domain proteins were localized to cytomembrane and vacuoles in B. bassiana, but had different roles in maintaining the lipid-droplet homeostasis. These proteins were required for fungal virulence, but differentially contributed to fungal utilization of nutrients, stress tolerance, and development under aerial and submerged conditions. Notably, BbMARVEL2 was essential for conidial surface morphology. Additionally, these five MARVEL domain proteins contributed to fungal interaction with the host immune defense. This study provides new mechanistic insights into the life cycle of B. bassiana as a biocontrol agent.

Advances in physical vapor deposition techniques have led to a myriad of quantum materials and technological breakthroughs, affecting all areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology which rely on the innovation in synthesis. Despite this, one area that remains challenging is the synthesis of atomically precise complex metal oxide thin films and heterostructures containing "stubborn" elements that are not only nontrivial to evaporate/sublimate but also hard to oxidize. Here, we report a simple yet atomically controlled synthesis approach that bridges this gap. Using platinum and ruthenium as examples, we show that both the low vapor pressure and the difficulty in oxidizing a "stubborn" element can be addressed by using a solid metal-organic compound with significantly higher vapor pressure and with the added benefits of being in a preoxidized state along with excellent thermal and air stability. We demonstrate the synthesis of high-quality single crystalline, epitaxial Pt, and RuO2 films, resulting in a record high residual resistivity ratio (=27) in Pt films and low residual resistivity, ∼6 µΩ·cm, in RuO2 films. We further demonstrate, using SrRuO3 as an example, the viability of this approach for more complex materials with the same ease and control that has been largely responsible for the success of the molecular beam epitaxy of III-V semiconductors. Our approach is a major step forward in the synthesis science of "stubborn" materials, which have been of significant interest to the materials science and the condensed matter physics community.

Cleft lip and palate is a common congenital birth defect in humans. Its incidence rate in China is as high as 1.82%, and is now a frequent deformity observed among the Chinese population; moreover, it varies across regions. Although the etiology of nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) has been widely investigated, the results are inconsistent. The specific genes and mechanisms responsible for NSCL/P have not been fully understood. Whole exome sequencing (WES) is a new strategy for studying pathogenic genes. WES studies on NSCL/P have not been conducted in East China. Therefore, the aim of this study was to screen candidate genes of NSCL/P in East China using WES and analyze the temporal and spatial expressions of the candidate genes during embryonic palatal development. WES was performed in 30 children with NSCL/P from East China to screen candidate genes. A bioinformatics analysis was performed using commercially available software. Variants detected by WES were validated by immunohistochemistry and western blotting. After WES, 506,144 single-nucleotide variant sites were found. The results of database comparison, functional analysis, and mass spectrometry revealed that only the laminin alpha 5 (LAMA5) gene (site: rs145192286) was associated with NSCL/P. Immunohistochemistry results showed that LAMA5 expression in the medial edge epithelium changed with formation, lifting, and contact during palatogenesis. Almost no LAMA5 expression was detected in the palatal mesenchyme or after palatal fusion. Western blotting and immunohistochemistry results showed consistent trends. In conclusion, the WES results shows that the mutation at the site (rs145192286) of LAMA5 is associated with NSCL/P. The temporal and spatial expressions of LAMA5 during palatal development further demonstrate the involvement of this gene. Therefore, we speculate that LAMA5 is a new candidate pathogenic gene of NSCL/P. The identification of new pathogenic genes would help elucidate the pathogenesis of NSCL/P and provide a scientific basis for the prenatal diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of NSCL/P.

Wild tomatoes (Solanum peruvianum) are important genomic resources for tomato research and breeding. Development of a foreign DNA-free clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)-Cas delivery system has potential to mitigate public concern about genetically modified organisms. Here, we established a DNA-free CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing system based on an optimized protoplast regeneration protocol of S. peruvianum, an important resource for tomato introgression breeding. We generated mutants for genes involved in small interfering RNAs biogenesis, RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE 6 (SpRDR6), and SUPPRESSOR OF GENE SILENCING 3 (SpSGS3); pathogen-related peptide precursors, PATHOGENESIS-RELATED PROTEIN-1 (SpPR-1) and PROSYSTEMIN (SpProSys); and fungal resistance (MILDEW RESISTANT LOCUS O, SpMlo1) using diploid or tetraploid protoplasts derived from in vitro-grown shoots. The ploidy level of these regenerants was not affected by PEG-Ca2+-mediated transfection, CRISPR reagents, or the target genes. By karyotyping and whole genome sequencing analysis, we confirmed that CRISPR-Cas9 editing did not introduce chromosomal changes or unintended genome editing sites. All mutated genes in both diploid and tetraploid regenerants were heritable in the next generation. spsgs3 null T0 regenerants and sprdr6 null T1 progeny had wiry, sterile phenotypes in both diploid and tetraploid lines. The sterility of the spsgs3 null mutant was partially rescued, and fruits were obtained by grafting to wild-type (WT) stock and pollination with WT pollen. The resulting seeds contained the mutated alleles. Tomato yellow leaf curl virus proliferated at higher levels in spsgs3 and sprdr6 mutants than in the WT. Therefore, this protoplast regeneration technique should greatly facilitate tomato polyploidization and enable the use of CRISPR-Cas for S. peruvianum domestication and tomato breeding.

PURPOSE: In recent decades, the occurrence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has outweighed that of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction by degrees, but few drugs have been demonstrated to improve long-term clinical outcomes in patients with HFpEF. Levosimendan, a calcium-sensitizing cardiotonic agent, improves decompensated heart failure clinically. However, the anti-HFpEF activities of levosimendan and underlying molecular mechanisms are unclear. METHODS: In this study, a double-hit HFpEF C57BL/6N mouse model was established, and levosimendan (3 mg/kg/week) was administered to HFpEF mice aged 13 to 17 weeks. Different biological experimental techniques were used to verify the protective effects of levosimendan against HFpEF. RESULTS: After four weeks of drug treatment, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, cardiac hypertrophy, pulmonary congestion, and exercise exhaustion were significantly alleviated. Junction proteins in the endothelial barrier and between cardiomyocytes were also improved by levosimendan. Among the gap junction channel proteins, connexin 43, which was especially highly expressed in cardiomyocytes, mediated mitochondrial protection. Furthermore, levosimendan reversed mitochondrial malfunction in HFpEF mice, as evidenced by increased mitofilin and decreased ROS, superoxide anion, NOX4, and cytochrome C levels. Interestingly, after levosimendan administration, myocardial tissue from HFpEF mice showed restricted ferroptosis, indicated by an increased GSH/GSSG ratio; upregulated GPX4, xCT, and FSP-1 expression; and reduced intracellular ferrous ion, MDA, and 4-HNE levels. CONCLUSION: Regular long-term levosimendan administration can benefit cardiac function in a mouse model of HFpEF with metabolic syndromes (namely, obesity and hypertension) by activating connexin 43-mediated mitochondrial protection and sequential ferroptosis inhibition in cardiomyocytes.

Scarring is the primary factor of maxilla growth restriction among people who have undergone cleft palate repair surgery. p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38MAPK) promotes fibrosis in a variety of organs. However, its role in post-surgery scarring on the hard palate has not been fully understood. This study is designed to investigate the role of p38MAPK in scar formation and maxilla growth of rats. We removed the mucosa on the hard palate of rats and applied the p38MAPK silencing adenovirus vector on it two weeks after surgery. Then the scarring tissue and maxilla growth were evaluated by histological and morphological examination. The effect of p38MAPK silencing on scarring-related genes in fibroblasts was also studied. We found that local injection of Ad-p38MAPK-1 in vivo effectively reduces the expression of p38MAPK and scarring-related proteins and weakens the impact of scarring on the width of the hard palate. Mechanistically, p38MAPK silencing inhibits the expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) via mediating the production and nuclear localization of myocardin-related transcription factor A (MRTF-A) in fibroblasts. These results reveal a molecular pathway of scar formation involving p38MAPK/MRTF-A stimulation and support targeting p38MAPK as a potentially effective treatment for post-surgery scarring on the hard palate.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Diabetes is associated with increased risk of certain cardiovascular diseases, yet the causality remains to be determined. Meanwhile, given that first-degree relatives share 50% of genes, the effect of familial diabetes is also worthy of attention. Therefore, we sought to investigate the causal relations of individual or familial diabetes with eight cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, cardiac death, pulmonary embolism, transient ischemic attack, and ischemic stroke. METHODS AND RESULTS: Applying two-sample Mendelian randomization, we selected instruments for genetic predisposition to individual or familial diabetes based on published genome-wide association studies. The primary analyses were conducted using the random-effects inverse-variance weighted method. We found that genetically predicted individual diabetes was causally associated with higher risks of myocardial infarction (odd ratio [OR] = 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.05-1.13; P < 0.0001), hypertension (OR = 1.08; 95% CI: 1.03-1.13; P = 0.0006), and ischemic stroke (OR = 1.10; 95% CI: 1.05-1.15; P < 0.0001). Genetically predicted paternal diabetes could increase the risk of ischemic stroke (OR = 1.16; 95% CI: 1.04-1.30; P = 0.0061). Genetically predicted maternal diabetes could increase the risk of myocardial infarction (OR = 1.18; 95% CI: 1.09-1.29; P = 0.0001). Genetically predicted siblings' diabetes was causally associated with higher risks of myocardial infarction (OR = 1.17; 95% CI: 1.08-1.27; P = 0.0001) and hypertension (OR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.06-1.34; P = 0.0036). No significant differences were observed in other outcomes. CONCLUSION: This study supports causal effects of not only individual but also familial diabetes on the development of cardiovascular diseases, which will help realize the potential effect of family history in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: Vegetables are often blanched before drying. The hot-water blanching (HWB) of broccoli reduces quality and is environmentally harmful. In this work, hot-air-assisted radio frequency heating blanching (HA-RFB) of broccoli was developed for use before further drying processes. Blanching sufficiency, heating uniformity, and heating rate during HA-RFB were investigated to improve the product's physicochemical properties and texture. Suitable heating conditions were achieved when HA-RFB was applied with hot air at 70 °C, with an electrode gap of 10.7 cm, using a cylindrical container for the broccoli. RESULTS: Under these conditions, the relative peroxidase activity in broccoli decreased to 3.26% within 117 s, with 13.45% of weight loss. In comparison with HWB broccoli, the products blanched by HA-RFB preserved their texture, bioactive compounds, and microstructure better. The ascorbic acid, sulforaphane, and total glucosinolate content in HA-RFB products were 251.1%, 131.9% and 36.7% higher than those in HWB broccoli, and HA-RFB treatment led to a greater weight loss (13.45 ± 0.50%) than HWB (8.70 ± 1.70%), which is very helpful for the subsequent drying process. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that HA-RFB could be a promising substitute for HWB to blanch broccoli and other flower vegetables, especially as a pretreatment in the drying process. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a common nutritional disease associated with early childhood caries. This study aimed to explore the role of iron levels in pathological changes of dental caries in childhood. Rats were divided into four groups based on their iron content: IDA, positive control (PC), high iron (HI), and negative control (NC). Except for the rats in the NC group, rats in the other groups were inoculated with Streptococcus mutans and fed cariogenic high-sugar fodder to induce caries. Three months later, the caries status of the molars was evaluated at both the smooth and sulcal surfaces according to Keyes scores. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed to reveal microstructural changes in caries. Energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) was used to determine the elemental composition of the enamel and dentin. In addition, the histopathology of the salivary gland was detected using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining.The results showed that rats in the PC group exhibited obvious carious lesions. The carious score was significantly higher in the IDA group than in the PC group but was lower in the HI group. SEM revealed complete destruction of the enamel and damage to the middle dentin in the IDA group. In contrast, the molars in the HI group exhibited some degree of enamel demineralization, but the underlying dentin was almost intact. In addition, the elemental compositions of the enamel and dentin were similar among the four groups, and iron was detected only in the HI group. No differences were observed in the morphological structures of the salivary glands of rats from the different groups. In conclusion, ID enhanced the pathological damage of caries, whereas HI weakened it. Iron may participate in the pathological damage caused by childhood caries by affecting enamel mineralization.

Common in fungal extracellular membrane (CFEM) domain is unique in fungal proteins and some of which contribute to iron acquisition in yeast. However, their roles in iron acquisition remain largely unknown in filamentous fungi. In this study, 12 CFEM-containing proteins were bioinformatically identified in the filamentous entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana, and the roles of 11 genes were genetically characterized. Transmembrane helices were critical for their association with intracellular membranes, and their number varied among proteins. Eleven CFEM genes significantly contribute to vegetative growth under iron starvation and virulence. Notably, the virulence of most disruptants could be significantly weakened by a decrease in iron availability, in which the virulence of ΔBbcfem7 and 8 strains was partially recovered by exogenous hemin. ΔBbcfem7 and 8 mutants displayed defective competitiveness against the sister entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria brongniartii. All 11 disruptants displayed impaired growth in the antagonistic assay with the saprotrophic fungus Aspergillus niger, which could be repressed by exogenous ferric ions. These findings not only reveal the systematic contributions of CFEM proteins to acquire two forms of iron (i.e. heme and ferric ion) in the entire lifecycle of entomopathogenic fungi but also help to better understand the mechanisms of fungus-host and inter-fungus interactions.

Acyl-CoA synthetase (ACS) functions as a hub linking lipid metabolism with in cellular physiologies by producing active intermediate of catalyzes acyl-CoA. However, the biological roles of ACS are largely unknown in filamentous fungi. In this study, an ortholog of yeast Faa1, named BbFaa1, was functionally characterized in the filamentous entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana. BbFaa1 was associated with vesicular membrane, and its loss resulted in the impaired cytomembrane integrity. Notably, in ΔBbfaa1 mutant strain, the translocation of hydrophobins across cell membrane was significantly hampered, which resulted in the reduced hydrophobicity of aerial mycelia and conidia. In addition, loss of BbFaa1 significantly weakened fungal virulence. Our findings indicate that the metabolism of acyl-CoA synthetase Faa1 contributes to the cytomembrane functionality which cascades hydrophobin translocation and differentiation, thus affecting virulence of B. bassiana.

Both solids and gases have been demonstrated as the materials for terahertz (THz) coherent detection. The gas-based coherent detection methods require a high-energy probe laser beam and the detection bandwidth is limited in the solid-based methods. Whether liquids can be used for THz detection and relax these problems has not yet been reported, which becomes a timely and interesting topic due to the recent observation of efficient THz wave generation in liquids. Here, we propose a THz coherent detection scheme based on liquid water. When a THz pulse and a fundamental laser beam are mixed on a free-flowing water film, a second harmonic (SH) beam is generated as the plasma is formed. Combining this THz-induced SH beam with a control SH beam, we successfully achieve the time-resolved waveform of the THz field with the frequency range of 0.1-18 THz. The required probe laser energy is as low as a few microjoules. The sensitivity of our scheme is 1 order of magnitude higher than that of the air-based method under comparable detection conditions. The scheme is sensitive to the THz polarization and the phase difference between the fundamental and control SH beams, which brings direct routes for optimization and polarization sensitive detection. Energy scaling and polarization properties of the THz-induced beam indicate that its generation can be attributed to a four-wave mixing process. This generation mechanism makes simple relationships among the probe laser, THz-induced SH, and THz field, favorable for robustness and flexibility of the detection device.

ABSTRACT: Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is recommended among patients with established acute coronary syndrome. In this meta-analysis, we sought to compare the clinical outcomes between de-escalation versus unchanged DAPT based on both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies. The primary outcomes were major adverse cardiovascular events for observational studies and net clinical events for RCTs. Four RCTs and 17 observational studies with a total of 38,741 patients were included. Net clinical events were more common with unchanged DAPT than with de-escalation in RCTs [odd ratio (OR): 1.71; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.21-2.43; I2 = 69.4%], which was mainly due to higher risks of any bleeding (OR: 1.81; 95% CI, 1.14-2.88; I2 = 75.5%) and major bleeding (OR: 1.58; 95% CI, 1.02-2.46; I2 = 0), without significant differences in ischaemic events. However, trial sequential analysis revealed that sufficient information was obtained just for net clinical events, not for respective ischaemic or bleeding events in RCTs. In the analysis based on real-world observational studies, the risks of myocardial infarction (OR: 0.77; 95% CI, 0.61-0.98; I2 = 0) and stroke (OR: 0.42; 95% CI, 0.22-0.81; I2 = 0) were lower with the unchanged DAPT group. Therefore, de-escalation of DAPT led to a marked reduction in net clinical events compared with unchanged DAPT in RCTs, which was mainly due to reduced bleeding events. However, sufficient information for ischaemic events was not obtained. In the analysis based on real-world observational studies, myocardial infarction and stroke were more common with de-escalation, which should arise our attention.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to compare the clinical outcomes between culprit-only percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus multivessel PCI (MV-PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) accompanied by chronic total occlusion (CTO) in the non-infarct-related artery(non-IRA). DESIGN: Studies that compared culprit-only PCI versus MV-PCI in patients with STEMI accompanied by CTO in the non-IRA were included. Random odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. RESULTS: Eight studies with 2,259 patients were included. The results suggested that in patients with STEMI accompanied by CTO in the non-IRA, culprit-only PCI was associated with higher risks of all-cause mortality (OR: 2.89; 95% CI: 2.09-4.00; I2 = 0.0%), cardiac death (OR: 3.12; 95% CI: 2.05-4.75; I2 = 16.8%), stroke (OR: 2.80; 95% CI: 1.04-7.53; I2 = 0.0%), major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE; OR: 2.06; 95% CI: 1.39-3.06; I2 = 54.0%), and heart failure (OR: 1.99; 95% CI: 1.22-3.24; I2 = 0.0%) compared with staged MV-PCI, which were mainly derived from retrospective studies. No differences were observed in myocardial infarction or revascularization. Pooled multivariable adjusted results consistently indicated that staged MV-PCI was superior to culprit-only PCI. CONCLUSIONS: For patients with STEMI accompanied by CTO in the non-IRA, staged MV-PCI may be better compared with culprit-only PCI due to potential reduced risks of all-cause mortality, cardiac death, stroke, MACE, and heart failure. Meanwhile, further randomized trials are warranted to confirm or refute our findings.
