RESUMEN

Two novel B-embedded disulfide-bridged π-conjugated compounds (BS-CZ and BS-N) bearing different electron donor groups (phenyl carbazole and triphenylamine) have been prepared and show different optical mechanisms. The compound BS-CZ exhibits significant multiple resonance thermal activation delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) properties with a small singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔEST = 0.16 eV) and a narrow half-peak full width (FWHM = 33 nm), while the compound BS-N shows traditional fluorescence luminescence (FL) characteristics with a larger ΔEST (0.28 eV) and FWHM (57 nm). Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations show that the lowest excited singlet state (S1) of the compound BS-CZ exhibits local excited (LE) state characteristics, while the charge transfer (CT) state characteristics can be found in S1 of the compound BS-N. Considering good optical performance, the compound BS-CZ is used as an emitting layer of the organic light-emitting diode device and achieved saturated blue emission (473 nm) with a narrow FWHM (39 nm), and CIE color coordinates of (0.12, 0.21). This work provides an important strategy for the optical mechanism regulation and photoelectric applications of B-embedded disulfide-bridged π-conjugated molecules.

RESUMEN

Radiotherapy (RT) represents one of the major treatment methods for cancers. However, many studies have observed that in descendant surviving tumor cells, sublethal irradiation can promote metastatic ability, which is closely related to the tumor microenvironment. We therefore investigated the functions and mechanisms of sublethal irradiated liver nonparenchymal cells (NPCs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, primary rat NPCs and McA-RH7777 hepatoma cells were irradiated with 6 Gy X-ray. Conditioned media (CM) from nonirradiated (SnonR), irradiated (SR), or irradiated plus radiosensitizer celecoxib-treated (S[R + D]) NPCs were collected and added to sublethal irradiated McA-RH7777 cells. We showed that CM from sublethal irradiated NPCs significantly promoted the migration and invasion ability of sublethal irradiated McA-RH7777 cells, which was reversed by celecoxib. The differentially expressed genes in differently treated McA-RH7777 cells were enriched mostly in the AMP-activated protein kinase/mammalian target of rapamycin (AMPK/mTOR) signaling pathway. SR increased the migration and invasion ability of HCC cells by inhibiting AMPK/mTOR signaling, which was enhanced by the AMPK inhibitor compound C and blocked by the AMPK activator GSK-621. Analyses of HCC tissues after neoadjuvant radiotherapy confirmed the effects of radiation on the AMPK/mTOR pathway. Cytokine antibody arrays and further functional investigations showed that matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) partly mediates the promotion effects of SR on the migration and invasion ability of HCC cells by regulating AMPK/mTOR signaling. In summary, our data indicate that MMP-8 secreted by irradiated NPCs enhanced the migration and invasion of HCC by regulating AMPK/mTOR signaling, revealing a novel mechanism mediating sublethal irradiation-induced HCC metastasis at the level of the tumor microenvironment.

RESUMEN

Environmental monitoring plays an important role in the preventive protection of ancient buildings, although it is still in the prototype stage. In order to provide data support for the protection of ancient buildings, an environmental monitoring system with multi-sensor and multi-node for the interior and exterior of ancient buildings is designed and realized, based on ZigBee, TCP/IP, and intranet penetration technology. The new type of indoor node package box and outdoor package device are designed to meet the needs of different types of sensors. The monitoring platform is developed on the strength of the LabView so as to obtain real-time display, storage, and over-limit warning functions for local and remote monitoring data. It also proves that the monitoring system is stable and reliable by monitoring the actual ancient building with a brick (stone) structure.

The trade-off between the color fidelity index (Rf) released recently by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) and luminous efficacy of radiation (LER) was investigated by adjusting the peak wavelengths, spectral widths, and intensities of four-channel LEDs utilizing a multiobjective optimization algorithm based on differential evolution in the correlated color temperature (CCT) ranging from 2800 to 6500 K for general lighting. The results indicate that Rf at a specific LER value decreases with the increasing CCT, and vice versa, and that Rf has significant improvements over the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) color rendering index (CRI) in avoiding spectral gaming and evaluating the light sources even with negative CIE general CRI (Ra). Further, the optimal peak wavelengths with regard to Rf were identified as 629 nm, 568 nm, 504 nm, and 447 nm, yielding high color rendering in terms of Rf(93∼94) and Ra(95∼97) and relatively excellent LER (299 lm/W∼339 lm/W) over a wide range of CCTs from 2800 to 6500 K. This suggests that Rf can be compatible with Ra, making it possible to obtain a common set of optimal peak wavelengths for Rf and Ra. Besides, the IES method could assess saturated red and skin tones more fairly than the CIE CRI. With a practical 17-channel LED array covering the resulted four optimal peak wavelengths, the improvements of the IES method over the CIE CRI were validated further.

Considering that the existing color quality (CQ) metrics for light sources cannot correlate well with the subjective evaluation, in an immersive environment equipped with a multichannel LED light source, a psychophysical experiment by categorical judgment method was carried out to assess the three perception-related CQ attributes of light sources in terms of naturalness, colorfulness, and preference. The experiment collected the subjective responses to these attributes of up to 41 metameric spectra at each of four test correlated color temperatures (CCTs) ranging from 2800 to 6500 K, which covers the usual white-light range for general lighting. The results indicate that preference exhibits relatively high correlation with naturalness and colorfulness, and naturalness is weakly related to colorfulness. Besides, 20 typical CQ metrics were adopted to examine their validity in characterizing the subjective data, confirming their limited performance. Meanwhile, the underlying relationship of these metrics and the subjective data was also analyzed by the multidimensional scaling, revealing that almost all metrics can correspond to one attribute of naturalness, colorfulness, and preference, and that the saturation level is identified as a critical factor affecting these attributes. Based on these results, a unified CQ model was developed with a multiple nonlinear regression equation combining the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America color rendition method. The model accords satisfactorily with the subjective evaluation, while being applicable to a wide range of CCTs.

Objective To investigate the effects of microRNA-18a (miR-18a) on migration and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, and its possible mechanism associated with Dicer l.Methods HepG2 and HepG2.2.15 cells were transfected with miR-18a inhibitor using Lipofectamine. Cell invasion was evaluated by transwell invasion assay, and cell migration was detected by transwell migration and wound-healing assays. Moreover, luciferase reporter assay was used to identify whether Dicer expression was regulated by miR-18a. Real-time RT-PCR and western blot were performed to analyze Dicer 1 expression. In addition, a functional restoration assay was performed to investigate whether miR-18a promotes HCC cell migration and invasion by directly targeting Dicer 1.Results miR-18a inhibitor can suppress the migration and invasion of HCC cells. Furthermore, suppression of Dicer l expression by small interfering RNA essentially abolished the inhibition of cell migration and invasion induced by miR-18a inhibitor, restorating these activities to levels similar to the parental HCC cells. Interestingly, suppression of miR-18a in HCC cells resulted in enhanced expression of Dicer l. In addition, the results of a luciferase assay demonstrated targeted regulation of Dicer l by miR-18a.Conclusion Our findings suggest that miR-18a promotes migration and invasion of HCC cells by inhibiting Dicer l expression.

The methods were proposed to design the spectra of light sources with multi-channel LEDs based on a differential evolution (DE) algorithm. Specifically, to produce a desired illuminance level while matching a specific spectrum, a matching method combining the DE algorithm and photometry was verified by matching the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) standard illuminants A and D65 at the two desired illuminance levels (500 and 1000 lx) with a multi-channel LED array. Furthermore, considering that correlated color temperature (CCT), illuminance, and color rendering are of practical importance to general lighting, on the basis of photometry and colorimetry, the DE algorithm integrating a mechanism dealing with constraints was developed to optimize the CIE general color rendering index of light sources under a joint target of CCT and illuminance. Sixteen selected targets (eight CCTs from 2800 to 6500 K at 500 and 1000 lx, respectively) were realized with the LED array. The results indicate that the relative errors of CCT and illuminance are less than 0.7% and 1.5%, respectively, while achieving excellent or even perfect color rendering. These methods also enable a practical tool for smart and dynamic lighting.

Carbon monoxide (CO) gas sensors are widely used, especially for environmental monitoring in confined spaces such as the landscape of mining cave ruins in mining parks, which is essential for ensuring the health and safety of tourists and staff. In this paper, a flexible CO gas sensor based on polyimide, interdigital electrodes, and reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/cuprous chloride (CuCl) composite film is designed and manufactured for reliable room temperature detection of high-concentration CO gas. The structure size of RGO/CuCl gas-sensitive film is 5 × 5 mm. The RGO with a 62.65% C-C bond is prepared by the thermal reduction method. The test results show that the sensor has a high response in the range of 400-2000 ppm CO gas concentration, and the maximum response is 1.56. The linear correlation coefficient of the sensor is 0.981, which indicates that the sensor has good output response characteristics. The response time of the sensor for 400 ppm CO gas is 332 s, which indicates that the sensor has a fast response rate. Furthermore, compared with other gases, the sensor shows higher gas selectivity for CO gas. This sensor has the characteristics of small size and easy attachment; therefore, it can be installed on the shoulder or helmet of tourists' safety suits, providing personalized real-time warning prompts for tourists' physical health status.

At present, flexible pressure-sensitive materials generally have problems with weak adhesion and poor wear resistance, which easily result in friction failure when used for plantar pressure detection. In this study, a flexible pressure sensor with the advantages of a wide detection range, fast recovery, and good abrasive resistance was designed and prepared based on the screen printing process. The pressure-sensitive unit with a structural size of 5 mm× 8 mm was a functional material system due to the use of graphene and epoxy resin. The influence of the different mass ratios of the graphene and epoxy resin on the sensing properties was also studied. The test results showed that when the mass ratio of graphene to epoxy resin was 1:4, the response time and recovery time of the sensing unit were 40.8 ms and 3.7 ms, respectively, and the pressure detection range was 2.5-500 kPa. The sensor can detect dynamic pressure at 0.5 Hz, 1 Hz, 2 Hz, 10 Hz, and 20 Hz and can withstand 11,000 cycles of bending. In addition, adhesion tests showed that the high viscosity of the epoxy helped to improve the interlayer bond between the pressure-sensitive materials and the flexible substrate, which makes it more suitable for plantar pressure detection environments, where friction is common.

GaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) terahertz (THz) detectors have been widely studied and applied in the past few decades. However, there are few reports about the influence of GaN/AlGaN heterostructure material properties on the detection model at present. In this paper, a response voltage model for a GaN HEMT THz detector that considers the carrier scattering in a GaN/AlGaN heterostructure is proposed. The phonon scattering, dislocation scattering, and interface roughness scattering mechanisms are taken into account in the classic THz response voltage model; furthermore, the influence of various material parameters on the response voltage is studied. In a low-temperature region, acoustic scattering plays an important role, and the response voltage drops with an increase in temperature. In a high temperature range, optical phonon scattering is the main scattering mechanism, and the detector operates in a non-resonant detection mode. With an increase in carrier surface density, the response voltage decreases and then increases due to piezoelectric scattering and optical phonon scattering. For dislocation and interface roughness scattering, the response voltage is inversely proportional to the dislocation density and root mean square roughness (RMS) but is positively related to lateral correlation length. Finally, a comparison between our model and the reported models shows that our proposed model is more accurate.

Here, we present a high-precision demodulation method that supports the arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) system, which includes a 1 × 8 AWG as the primary filter with a 0.5 nm channel spacing and a 1 × 4 AWG as the auxiliary filter with a 1 nm channel spacing. The high precision is achieved through an innovative method of decoupling three channels, involving two adjacent channels of the primary filter and one channel of the secondary auxiliary filter. Simulation results show that the AWGs have a good transmission spectrum with crosstalk below -24.8 dB, non-uniformities below 0.8 dB, insertion loss below -3.7 dB, 3 dB bandwidth of 0.25 nm, and 10 dB bandwidth of 0.43 nm. The interrogation precision can reach 8 pm, with a dynamic range of 0.4 nm, corresponding to a single FBG.

Two sandwiched ZnO/Metal/ZnO transparent conductive thin films, 50nm ZnO/Cu/50nm ZnO (abbreviated as ZnO(Cu)) and 50nm ZnO/Ti/Cu/Ti/50nm ZnO (abbreviated as ZnO(Ti/Cu)) were deposited by magnetron sputtering technology. The comparative analysis of experiment results shows that the introduction of the Ti layer is beneficial to the overall properties of ZnO(Ti/Cu) thin film compared to ZnO(Cu) thin film with the same metal layer thickness. The effect of the annealing temperature on the performance of the two film systems was studied. Although the carrier concentration did not always increase with annealing temperature, the sheet resistances did decrease due to the obvious increase of mobility. The transmittance of ZnO(Cu) thin films increases with annealing temperature, while that of ZnO(Ti/Cu) films increases at first and then decreases. The optical band gap of ZnO(Cu) thin films increases with temperature, but is lower than that of ZnO(Ti/Cu) thin films, whose bandgap first increases with temperature and then decreases. The figure of merit of the ZnO(Ti/Cu) film is better than that of ZnO(Cu), which shows that the overall performance of ZnO(Ti/Cu) films is better, and annealing can improve the performance of the film systems.

Flexible sensors used to detect NO2 gas generally have problems such as poor repeatability, high operating temperature, poor selectivity, and small detection range. In this work, a new spraying platform with a simple structure, low cost, and good film-forming consistency was designed and built to make a sensitive film (rGO/SnO2) for NO2 gas sensors. The relationship between the solid content of rGO and SnO2 nanoparticles, annealing temperature, and sensor performance was studied. The results show that the interdigital electrode-sensitive film formed by spraying 0.25 ml of a 0.4 wt% rGO/SnO2 mixture and annealing at 250 °C exhibited the best comprehensive performance for NO2 detection. The sensor's response value for 100 ppm NO2 gas was 0.2640 at room temperature (25 °C), and the response time and recovery time were 412.4 s and 587.3 s, respectively. In the range of 20-100 ppm, the relationship between the response and NO2 concentration was linear, and the correlation coefficient was 0.9851. In addition, a soft-monitoring node module with an overlimit warning function for NO2 gas was designed and manufactured based on flexible electronics. Finally, the flexible sensor and node module were embedded into woven fabric that could be used to make a mask or a watch that could detect NO2 gas, realizing the practical application of flexible NO2 gas sensors in the field of wearable electronics.

A Mach-Zehnder fiber optic sensor with high refractive index response sensitivity was developed. By fabricating a waist-enlarged bitaper structure on the interference arm of a single mode-multimode-single mode (SMS) Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), the spectral contrast and response sensitivity were improved. Subsequently, the response sensitivity was further improved by etching the interference arm. When a beam of light was introduced into the sensor, due to the structural mismatch between the multimode fiber and the normal transmission light, the difference between the low-order mode and the high-order mode was generated in the fiber core and the fiber cladding. In the process of transmission in the sensing arm, due to the different refractive indices of the core and cladding, the optical path difference of the high-order mode and the low-order mode was different, which eventually generated interference fringes. The experimentally measured response sensitivity of SMS MZI in the range of 1.351 RIU to 1.402 RIU is 57.623 nm/RIU; the response sensitivity of a single mode-multimode-bitaper-multimode-single mode (SMBMS) MZI is 61.607 nm/RIU; and the response sensitivity of the etched SMBMS (ESMBMS) MZI is 287.65 nm/RIU. The response sensitivity of the new ESMBMS MZI is three times higher than that of the original SMS MZI. The sensor has the characteristics of compact structure, high sensitivity, easy manufacture, and a wide range of refractive index measurements, and can be used in food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other fields.

Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) fiber as a carbon-based fiber sensor has aroused widespread interest in the field of gas sensing. However, the low response value and poor flexibility of the rGO fiber sensor severely limit its application in the field of flexible wearable electronics. In this paper, a flexible and wearable nylon fiber sensor modified by rGO and ZnO quantum dots (QDs) is proposed for wide-range NO2 gas detection at room temperature. The response value of the nylon fiber sensor to 100 ppm NO2 gas is as high as 0.4958, and the response time and recovery time are 216.2 s and 667.9 s, respectively. The relationship between the sensor's response value and the NO2 concentration value is linear in the range of 20-100 ppm, and the fitting coefficient is 0.998. In addition, the test results show that the sensor also has good repeatability, flexibility, and selectivity. Moreover, an early warning module was also designed and is proposed in this paper to realize the over-limit monitoring of NO2 gas, and the flexible sensor was embedded in a mask, demonstrating its great application potential and value in the field of wearable electronics.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral revascularization strategies through extracranial to intracranial bypass have been adopted in the management of complex intracranial aneurysms. The internal maxillary artery used as a donor in a bypass is an effective method. At present, there are few quantitative analyses of cerebral blood flow perfusion. The main focus of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of blood perfusion after bypass grafting. METHODS: From April 2015 to December 2017, 19 patients who underwent internal maxillary artery radial artery middle cerebral artery bypass surgery with unobstructed bypass vessels were selected. Cerebral blood flow perfusion before and after bypass surgery was quantitatively evaluated by computed tomography perfusion imaging. The cerebral blood perfusion in the region of interest was measured by computed tomography perfusion. RESULTS: The aneurysms were excised after trapping in 2 cases with mass effects and neural compression. Proximal occlusion of the parent artery was performed in 9 cases of fusiform or giant dissecting aneurysms. Trapping was performed after bypass surgery in 8 cases. Within 3 months after surgery, 17 patients had good outcomes. After the hypothesis test, there was a significant difference between the preoperative △cerebral blood volume and postoperative △cerebral blood volume in the anterior area of the semioval center cross section (P = 0.001 < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The internal maxillary artery as a bypass donor is an effective method that can provide sufficient intracranial blood perfusion, and there is usually no cerebral ischemia in the surrounding area.

Gastric carcinoma (GC) is one of the most common cause of tumor-related death. Chemotherapy resistance usually occurs, leading to cancer relapse and poor survival of GC patients. To investigate the role of miRNAs in chemotherapy resistance for GC patients, we conducted an integrated analysis of miRNA expression and survival information using data obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas project. Genome-wide screening of chemotherapy response-specific miRNAs was performed using Cox proportional hazards regression analyses for patients who received chemotherapy or those who had never received chemotherapy, respectively. A four-miRNA expression signature (involving two protective miRNAs, miR-200b and miR-103a, and two risk ones miR-199 and miR-152) was predicted as a specific indicator for GC chemoresistance (p = 0.00053; hazard ratio = 8.63), outperforming those clinicopathological factors. Functional experiments confirmed the roles of these signature miRNAs in regulation of chemotherapy response. Functional enrichment of these signature miRNAs and risk score revealed positive association with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and negative association with cell cycle checkpoint and DNA damage response. Furthermore, the immune infiltration-miRNA functional network analysis revealed transformation from activated effector cells to resting immunosuppressive cells are preferred in GCs with adverse chemotherapy response. In summary, our work identifies a four-miRNA expression signature as a promising chemoresistance biomarker in GC, which provides novel insights into developing new strategies to overcome GC chemoresistance.

The optical fiber temperature and refractive index sensor combined with the hollow needle structure for medical treatment can promote the standardization of traditional acupuncture techniques and improve the accuracy of body fluid analysis. A double-parameter sensor based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is developed in this paper. The sensor materials are selected through X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and the sensor sensing principle is theoretically analyzed and simulated. Through femtosecond laser writing pure silica fiber, a high temperature resistant wavelength type FBG temperature sensor is obtained, and the FBG is corroded by hydrofluoric acid (HF) to realize a high-sensitivity intensity-type refractive index sensor. Because the light has dual characteristics of energy and wavelength, the sensor can realize simultaneous dual-parameter sensing. The light from the lead-in optical fiber is transmitted to the sensor and affected by temperature and refractive-index; then, the reflection peak is reflected back to the lead-out fiber by the FBG. The high temperature response and the refractive index response of the sensor were measured in the laboratory, and the high temperature characteristics of the sensor were verified in the accredited institute. It is demonstrated that the proposed sensor can achieve temperature sensing up to 1150 °C with the sensitivity of 0.0134 nm/°C, and refractive sensing over a refractive range of 1.333 to 1.4027 with the sensitivity of -49.044 dBm/RIU. The sensor features the advantages of two-parameter measurement, compact structure, and wide temperature range, and it exhibits great potential in acupuncture treatment.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important components of the tumor microenvironment, which are characterized by pro-tumor M2 phenotype and correlate with poor survival of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) plays a crucial role in macrophage polarization toward M2 phenotype, but its prognosis significance in NPC has been rarely determined. To gain insights into the HO-1 expression profile and to determine the clinical significance of HO-1 in NPC, we performed immunohistochemistry analyses in 126 NPC specimens. CD163, a highly specific marker of M2 macrophages, was used as a surrogate for the polarization state of TAMs. Our results showed that high expression of HO-1 and CD163 were detected in TAMs for 57.9% (73/126) and 61.9% (78/126) of the studied patients, and both of them were significantly associated with worse survival. Additionally, a significant correlation between the intensities of HO-1 and CD163 was identified, and HO-1 exhibited a superior ability in predicting survival compared with CD163. Our study revealed for the first time that overexpression of HO-1 characterized a poor-prognosis subtype in NPC. Individualized therapy targeting HO-1 might serve as a promising treatment modality for NPC.
