RESUMEN

In the present paper, the structural, morphological and optical properties of PbI2 thick films prepared by close-spaced sublimation technique were investigated. It was found that the thickness of PbI2 films decreased from 1 000 µm to 220 µm with the increase in the sublimation source temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern shows that the thick films are polycrystalline hexagonal structure with preferred growth orientation of (002) plane, and their grain size, dislocation density and growth stress are closely related to the source temperature. Images of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveal the accumulation of hexagonal plate-like particles which constitute the samples, and the particles with a diameter of 248 µm and a thickness of 32.7 µm, exhibit clearly layered structure. By spectrum fitting using Gauss function, the Raman spectra show a shift of about 147, 169, 217 and 210 cm(-1) respectively, the first three peaks correspond to the longitudinal optical vibrations (LO) mode in 4H-PbI2 crystal, while the last peak originate from a vibration pattern associated with SnO2 in substrate. Raman peak of 147 cm(-1) changes significantly with the increases in source temperature, and a dramatic decrease in peak intensity with broadening peak width occurred when the source temperature increased up to 225 degrees C or more. Under 340 nm excitation at room temperature, several weak photoluminescence peaks of PbI2 samples which associated with defects and exciton recombination near 2.25, 2.57 and 2.64 eV were observed. Given a comprehensive consideration of structural and spectral characterization results, PbI2 thick films with a thickness of about 659 µm deposited at a source temperature of 200 degrees C achieves the best crystalline quality.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer is a common gynecological malignant tumor in women. Most patients have reached the advanced stage when they visit the hospital. In order to diagnose ovarian cancer at an early stage, treat it at an early stage, and improve the survival rate of patients, this study has used the imaging computed tomography (CT) method to diagnose stage IA ovarian cancer. PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to study CT features of stage IA ovarian cancer, and compare the borderline tumor and stage IC ovarian cancer at the same time so as to improve the CT diagnosis of early ovarian cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively collected clinical and CT data of patients with stage I ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumor admitted to Nantong Tumor Hospital from 2013 to 2021. Altogether, 23 cases of patients (borderline ovarian tumor, 9 cases; stage IA ovarian cancer, 5 cases; stage IC ovarian cancer, 9 cases) were involved. CT characteristics of these patients were analyzed in terms of the tumor diameter, cystic solid structure, solid component, septation, enhancement, peritoneal thickening, ascites, and abdominal lymph nodes. RESULTS: CT features of stage IA ovarian cancer included large tumor size (average diameter: 15 cm), cystic solid structure (4/5; 80%), septation (4/5; 80%), and enhanced cystic wall, septum, or solid components of the tumor on contrast-enhanced CT (5/5; 100%) no peritoneal thickening (0/5; 0%), no ascites (0/5; 0%), and no abdominal lymph node enlargement (0/5; 0%). The tumor structure did not differ significantly between stage IA and IC ovarian cancers (p > 0.05), while intraperitoneal ascites did (χ2 = 0.031; p < 0.05). Stage IA and borderline ovarian tumors did not differ significantly in ovarian tumor structure (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: CT features of stage IA ovarian cancer included large tumor size, cystic solid structure, septation, and enhanced cystic wall and solid parts in the tumors. No pelvic or abdominal metastasis was observed.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the morphologic and immunohistochemical features of gastrointestinal B-cell lymphomas. METHODS: One hundred and ninety-four cases of gastrointestinal B-cell lymphoma were retrieved from the archival file. The clinical features and pathologic findings were reviewed. Immunohistochemical study for B-cell markers, T-cell markers, bcl-6, CD10, bcl-10, cyclin D1, TdT, MUM1 and Ki-67 was carried out. RESULTS: The male-to-female ratio was 1.4:1. The age of patients ranged from 8 to 85 years. Amongst the 194 cases studied, 128 (66.0%) were diagnosed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, including 16 cases of large cell lymphoma associated with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma component. There were also 40 cases (20.6%) of MALT lymphoma, 8 cases (4.1%) of follicular lymphoma, 5 cases of (2.6%) of lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, 3 cases (1.6%) of mantle cell lymphoma, 1 case of (0.5%) of B-lymphoblastic lymphoma and 9 cases (4.6%) of indefinite type (including 5 biopsy cases). The site of involvement included stomach (100 cases, 51.5%), small intestine (43 cases, 22.2%), ileocecal junction (26 cases, 13.4%), appendix (1 case, 0.5%), colon (21 cases, 10.8%) and rectum (3 cases, 1.6%). Amongst the 163 cases which had undergone surgical resection, 20 cases (12.3%) cases had invasion down to the mucosa, 20 cases (12.3%) down to the superficial muscular layer, 19 cases (11.6%) down to the deep muscular layer and 104 cases (63.8%) with full-thickness involvement. Histologic examination showed lymphoepithelial lesions in 52 cases, residual lymphoid follicles in 29 cases, coagulative necrosis in 66 cases and nodular growth pattern in 30 cases. The lymphoma cells in all cases were immunoreactive for B-cell marker CD20. There was also various degrees of positivity for bcl-6, CD10, bcl-10, cyclin D1, TdT, MUM1 and Ki-67. CONCLUSIONS: Gastrointestinal B-cell lymphomas can be subdivided into two main groups: large B-cell lymphomas and small B-cell lymphomas. The latter group often poses diagnostic pitfalls. Accurate pathologic typing requires correlation with histologic and immunohistochemical findings.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To further understand the pathogenesis of pneumococcal meningitis, and provide some target candidates for the development of drugs. METHODS: This study was performed at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Key Laboratory of Diagnostic Medicine (Ministry of Education), Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China from March 2006 to December 2007. A promoter-trap library of Streptococcus pneumoniae TIGR4, reported by green fluorescent protein was constructed, and used to infect BALB/c mice (n=15) intranasally, to set up a meningitis model. The control group (n=5) were inoculated with sterile phosphate buffered saline. The bacteria containing the promoter fusions induced only in meningitis brain tissue, not in vitro were screened by differential fluorescence induction. The obtained bacteria were prepared to re-infect the mice and re-screened, as above. The sorted bacteria were spread on trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood agar plates containing chloramphenicol (2.5 g/mL), and were used for DNA cloning, sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. RESULTS: A total of 52 genes were obtained. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that these in vivo induced genes were involved in functions such as, adherence, energy metabolism, nutrient substance transport, transcription regulation, DNA metabolism, as well as, cell wall synthesis. In addition, there were some genes encoding for some hypothetical proteins with unknown, or putative functions. CONCLUSION: Pneumococcal genes involved in meningitis identified in this study are potential targets to understand the pathogenesis of pneumococcal meningitis.

RESUMEN

The root of Strobilanthes cusia BREMEK. (Acanthaceae), popularly known as Da-Ching-Yeh, has been commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is used to treat influenza, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, encephalitis B, viral pneumonia, mumps, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). In this study, we found a new lignan glycoside (6) and two new phenylethanoid glycosides (7, 8) together with five known compounds as chemical constituents of Strobilanthes cusia root. Some samples were examined for anti-herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) activity. Among the tested samples, lupeol showed anti-HSV-1 activity (EC(50): 11.7 microM) and showed 100% inhibition of virus plaque formation at 58.7 microM.
