OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and explore the efficacy of CO2 fractional laser in treating post-burn hypertrophic scars in children through Meta-analysis. METHODS: English databases (PubMed, Web of Science and The National Library of Medicine), as well as Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data) were searched. RevMan 5.3 software was used to data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 10 pieces of literature were included, involving 413 children. Meta-analysis showed that: (1) The average Vancouver Scar Scale after surgery was significantly lower than that before surgery [weight mean difference (WMD) = -3.56, 95% confidence interval (CI):-4.53,-2.58, p < 0.001]; (2) After CO2 fractional laser, pigmentation [WMD = -0.74, 95% CI:-1.10,-0.38, p < 0.001], pliability [WMD = -0.92, 95% CI:-1.20,-0.65, p < 0.001], vascularity [WMD = -0.77, 95% CI:-1.09,-0.46, p < 0.001], height [WMD = -0.57, 95% CI:-0.95,-0.19, p < 0.001] were improved compared with those before surgery. (3) The average Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) after surgery was significantly lower than that before surgery [WMD = -3.94, 95% CI:-5.69,-2.22, p < 0.001]. (4) Both Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS)-Observer [WMD = -3.98, 95% CI:-8.44,0.47, p < 0.001] and POSAS-Patient [WMD = -4.98, 95% CI:-8.09,-1.87, p < 0.001] were significantly lower than those before surgery. (5) Erythema and vesicles were the most common complications after CO2 fractional laser therapy, with an incidence of 4.09%. CONCLUSION: CO2 fractional laser is beneficial to the recovery of hypertrophic scar after burn in children, and can effectively improve the scar symptoms and signs in children, with desirable clinical efficacy.

The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the effect of different application sequences of CO2 fractional laser and triamcinolone acetonide injection on the application effect of hypertrophic scar in one operation. Patients with hypertrophic scars who received CO2 lattice laser combined with triamcinolone acetonide injection from January 2021 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the different initial operations, they were divided into CO2 FL-TA group and TA-CO2 FL group. The Vancouver Scar Scale score and scar thickness of the two groups before and after treatment were analyzed. The complications occurred in the two groups during the treatment period. The clinical efficacy of the two groups before and after the treatment was calculated. Before treatment, there was no difference in scar thickness and VSS score between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment, the above indexes in CO2 FL-TA group were significantly better than those in TA-CO2 FL group (P < 0.05); the incidence of adverse reactions in CO2 FL-TA group was 9.38%, which was significantly lower than that in TA-CO2 FL group (18.75%) (P < 0.05); the total effective rate of CO2 FL-TA group was 90.63%, which was significantly higher than that in TA-CO2 FL group (65.63%) (P < 0.05). In the process of combined CO2 fractional laser and triamcinolone acetonide injection in the treatment of hypertrophic scars, CO2 fractional laser treatment first, and then triamcinolone acetonide injection can reduce the number of treatments, reduce the incidence of adverse reactions, and achieve more satisfactory treatment effect.

The fractional CO2 laser is a type of ablative laser. In this study, a novel fractional CO2 laser therapeutic apparatus was developed for cervical diseases. To compare the depth and diameter of penetration as well as the stability of a novel laser against a control laser emitting at the same wavelength, we tested this using a rhesus monkey model. The cervixes of rhesus monkeys were irradiated with the novel CO2 laser. The effects of irradiation were assessed by measuring the depths and diameters of the holes created by the laser. In addition, the depths and diameters of the holes were compared between the novel CO2 laser-based gynecological therapeutic apparatus and the conventional CO2 laser-based therapeutic apparatus. When operated under the single spot mode and at the same energy level, the novel CO2 laser-based gynecological therapeutic apparatus created holes that could reach the greater depth. In addition, the laser spot size of the new apparatus was more constant. Moreover, there were no significant differences in the side effects between the new apparatus and the conventional apparatus. The results indicate that the novel CO2 laser-based gynecological therapeutic apparatus exhibits better stability in comparison to the conventional CO2 laser-based therapeutic apparatus.

The aim of this study is to describe the efficacy and safety of CO2 fractional laser to treat striae distensae (SD), before (T0) and 1 month after the last laser session (T1), in patients following different protocols based on the number of laser sessions, ≤4 and > 4. Efficacy was estimated with global assessment improvement scale (GAIS) performed by both physicians and patients, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), dermatology life quality index (DLQI). Safety was evaluated through pain assessment and adverse events. Eighteen patients with SD were enrolled. Clinical improvement of SD was observed in all patients at T1, as compared to T0. Furthermore, a reduction of RCM features of SD was observed at T1, above all in patients receiving >4 treatments, as compared to T0. Interestingly, we describe herein a new RCM feature of SD, the "neat-wall", corresponding to a distortion of the normal dermo-epidermal junction (DEJ), with a well-demarcated margin. A significant improvement of DLQI (P-value = .007) was also registered after SD treatment. Adverse events included temporary erythema and edema. In conclusion, the current study confirms the efficacy and safety of fractional CO2 laser, proposing RCM features, such as parallel collagen fibers and the neat-wall, as potential markers of SD treatment response.

CO2 fractional laser, as an ablative fractional laser, is commonly used in cosmetic treatment. We applied CO2 fractional laser irradiation to skin in vitro and used reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) to image and detect the presence of any non-ablative, micro-ablative and ablative effects, in order to better understand the features of a CO2 fractional laser. In vitro irradiation of foreskin was performed using a CO2 fractional laser. Foreskin specimens were divided into 4 groups that received different amounts of irradiation energy, based on the number of irradiation passes they received: 5, 10, 15, and 20 passes, respectively. This corresponds to fluence energy of 16.3, 32.6, 48.9, 65.3 J/cm2. Immediately after irradiation, digital microscopy (DM), RCM, and histopathology were performed to observe whether the non-ablative, micro-ablative, and ablative phenomenon occurred, and the injury features of MTZs. Immediately after CO2 fractional laser irradiation, RCM and DM showed that when the numbers of passes were 5 and 10, a micro-ablative column (MAC) could not be observed or was very small. We mainly observed a thicker thermal coagulation zone (TCZ), representing non-ablative or micro-ablative effects. When the number of passes were increased to 15 and 20, the MAC was significantly enlarged and surrounded by a TCZ of medium thickness, representing ablative effects. For the first time, this study used RCM and DM to demonstrate that a CO2 fractional laser could achieve non-ablative, micro-ablative, and ablative effects on irradiated skin via different energy levels.

Vitiligo is a disease pathologically characterized by specific damage to melanocytes. The aim of this study was to explore the mechanism underlying CO2 fractional laser treatment of vitiligo by detecting the levels of Th1 cytokines (IL-2 and IFN-γ), Th2 cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10), and Th17 cytokines (IL-17 and IL-23) in peripheral blood. Twenty five vitiligo patients were enrolled in this study and were treated with a CO2 fractional laser four to eight times. The cytokines of 25 vitiligo patients and 20 healthy volunteers were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. After CO2 fractional laser therapy, six cases were cured, and the apparent efficiency was 72.0% (18/25), while the efficiency was 92.0% (23/25). Before CO2 fractional laser therapy, IL-2 and IFN-γ levels in vitiligo patients were higher than those in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (p > .05). IL-4, IL-10, IL-17, and IL-23 levels were also higher in vitiligo patients than those in the control group (p < .05). After treatment, IL-2 and IFN-γ levels in vitiligo patients were lower than before treatment, but the difference was not statistically significant (p > .05), while IL-4, IL-10, IL-17, and IL-23 levels were significantly lower compared with before treatment (p < .05). The results show that CO2 fractional laser treatment has a good curative effect in the treatment of vitiligo.

BACKGROUND: Tacrolimus is a conventional medication for the treatment of vitiligo, but the effect of a single medication is limited. OBJECTIVE: This paper aims at observing the effects, adverse responses, and repigmentation results of the joint treatment of vitiligo by Carbon dioxide (CO2 ) fractional laser together with tacrolimus. METHODS: Forty-five patients with vitiligo were randomly divided into two groups: treatment (T) group and control (C) group, and each group was further divided into three subgroups (face, torso and limbs, and hand and foot) according to the location of the skin defect. Both groups used topical 0.1% tacrolimus cream, but the T group was given one CO2 fractional laser treatment each month. We observed the clinical efficacy, adverse responses, and repigmentation results after 6 months. RESULTS: Compared to the C group, the T group showed better improvement in both objective and subjective assessments. When the treatment time was increased, the efficacy was also improved, and the repigmentation in the T group occured in three ways: perifollicular repigmentation, marginal repigmentation and diffuse repigmentation. There were three cases of isomorphic responses (2 cases in the rapid progression stage, one case in the progression stage), and 1 case formed scarring on the neck in the T group. CONCLUSIONS: The treatment of vitiligo by CO2 fractional laser together with tacrolimus is significantly effective and is most suitable for patients in the progression stage. Patients in the rapid progression stage should use this approach with caution, and its efficacy was limited for patients in the stable stage. An extended course of treatment is helpful for the repigmentation of white patches. Successful delivery of a photosensitizer into the skin is an important factor for effective photodynamic therapy (PDT). The effective method to increase drug penetration within short incubation time overcoming skin barrier have been investigated. This study was performed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of ablative fractional laser (FXL) pretreatment and/or sonophoresis for enhancing the penetration of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) into human skin in vivo. Twenty-four identical 1 × 1 cm2 treatment areas were mapped on the backs of ten healthy male subjects. Each area received FXL pretreatment and/or sonophoresis with different energy settings and ALA incubation times. After treatments, porphyrin fluorescence reflecting the ALA penetration were measured. Application of ablative CO2 FXL pretreatment resulted to higher fluorescence intensities than the non-treatment group. Incubation times were positively correlated with the increments of ALA penetration. However, increasing pulse energy or combining with sonophoresis did not show additional positive effects on ALA penetration. Ablative CO2 FXL pretreatment effectively facilitated ALA penetration in human skin in vivo. Ablative CO2 FXL alone without sonophoresis setting pulse energy of 10 and 20 mJ with more than 60 min of ALA incubation time could be an ideal setting for ALA penetration.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Striae are atrophic dermal scars with overlying epidermal atrophy causing cosmetic concern. This study assesses and compares the efficacy and safety of needling therapy versus CO2 fractional laser in treatment of striae. METHODS: Twenty Egyptian female patients with striae in the abdomen and lower limbs were involved in the study. The patients were treated with needling therapy and CO2 laser every 1 month for 3 sessions. Follow-up by digital photography and skin biopsy was conducted at baseline and 6 months after treatment. Clinical improvement was assessed by comparing photographs and patient's satisfaction before and after treatment. RESULTS: Nine of 10 (90%) needle-treated patients showed improvement. Among them, 3 (30%) had good, 4 (40%) had fair, and 2 (20%) had poor improvements; however, 1 (10%) did not show any improvement after the treatment. In CO2-laser treated patients, 5 of 10 (50%) of the patients showed clinical improvement; 1 (10%) were good, 3 (30%) were fair, and 1 (10%) were poor; however, 5 (50%) did not show improvement. CONCLUSION: The results support the use of microneedle therapy over CO2 lasers for striae treatment.

In this study were described the results, by tridimensional imaging evaluation, of the new "Combined Fractional Resurfacing" technique with the first fractional laser that overtakes the limits of traditional ablative, nonablative fractional resurfacing by combining CO2 ablative and GaAs nonablative lasers. These two wavelengths can work separately or in a mixed modality to give the best treatment choice to all the patients. In this study, it is demonstrated that the simultaneous combination of the CO2 wavelength (10600 nm) and GaAs wavelength (1540 nm) reduced the downtime, reduced pain during the treatment, and produced better results on fine wrinkles reduction and almost the same results on pigmentation as seen with 3D analysis by Antera (Miravex).

BACKGROUND: Ultrapluse CO2 fractional laser technology has emerged as an effective treatment for scar management. However, one drawback of this modality is the pain caused during the procedure. This study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of dezocine (DZC) as preemptive analgesia for reduction of pain induced by ultrapulse CO2 fractional laser treatment for acne scars. METHODS: The study cohort included 78 outpatients with acne scars between February and April 2023. Patients were randomly assigned into three groups with intravenous injection (iv) of DZC prior to laser treatment: (1) control, iv of saline; (2) DZC group 1 (DZC_1), iv of DZC at 0.15 mg/kg; and (3) DZC_2, iv of DZC at 0.20 mg/kg. After 30 min, one session of ultrapulse CO2 fractional laser treatment on acne scars was performed. Hemodynamics, visual analogue scale (VAS), and anxiety visual analog test (AVAT) were monitored prior to, during, and after the procedure. RESULTS: Operative success rates for patients in the control, DZC_1, and DZC_2 groups were 34.6%, 84.6%, and 100%, respectively. DZC administered with either dosage significantly reduced the VAS and AVAT scores of patients in treatment groups as compared with the subjects in the control group during the course of ultrapulse CO2 fractional laser treatment. Patients in DZC_1 and DZC_2 groups did not show any significant difference in hemodynamic parameters, VAS, and AVAT scores. Temporary adverse effects such as nausea and dizziness were observed in some subjects after treatment; the symptoms were quickly dissolved after a rest in supine position. CONCLUSIONS: DZC as preemptive analgesia could effectively reduce pain and anxiety induced by ultrapulse CO2 fractional laser treatment in patients. This study provided an option of preemptive anesthesia to minimize the pain and discomforts associated with laser treatments in clinical practices.

Ultrapulse fractional CO2 laser is effective for acne atrophic scars. Whether this effectiveness is affected by sleep quality remains unclear. Aiming to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and postoperative effectiveness, a retrospective clinical study was conducted, enrolling 83 patients with atrophic acne scar. Sleep quality was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire at 3 months after the end of the first treatment. The ECCA (échelle d'évaluation clinique des cicatrices d'acné) scale was used to evaluate the clinical effectiveness before and at 3 months after treatment. The patients were divided into a mild to moderate improvement group and a good to excellent improvement group, based on whether they achieved a 50% ECCA improvement rate. PSQI score was higher in the mild and moderate improvement group than in the good to excellent improvement group (7.6 ± 4.5 vs 3.8 ± 1.7, p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that both PSQI score (odds ratio = 0.6 [95% CI = 0.5-0.8], p < 0.001) and scar type were correlated with postfractional CO2 laser effectiveness. Pearson correlation analysis suggested that PSQI score was negatively correlated with ECCA decline score (r = -0.6139, p < 0.0001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that PSQI score (area under the curve = 0.759) and scar type (area under the curve = 0.737) were all closely correlated with postoperative effectiveness, without statistical difference between their accuracies (p = 0.647). Decision curve analysis demonstrated that both PSQI score and scar type correlated with postoperative effectiveness. Our results demonstrated that sleep quality correlates with the postoperative effectiveness of ultrapulse fractional CO2 laser in the treatment of atrophic acne scars.

BACKGROUND: To date, a consensus on the relative efficacy and safety of CO2 fractional laser versus erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) fractional laser treatments for atrophic acne scars has not been reached. This meta-analysis aims to systematically assess and compare their effectiveness and safety in clinical practice. METHODS: For this meta-analysis, we conducted comprehensive searches in Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane databases, covering publications from their inception up to August 2023. Our focus was on studies comparing fractional CO2 laser with Er:YAG fractional laser treatments for atrophic acne scars. We excluded duplicate publications, research lacking full-text access, incomplete data, or cases where data extraction was not feasible. Additionally, animal experiments, reviews, and systematic reviews were not considered. Data analysis was performed using STATA 15.1. RESULTS: Eight studies (seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and a retrospective study) were included in this meta-analysis. The sample size ranged from 28 to 106 with a total of 418 patients, including 210 in the CO2 fractional group and 208 in Er:YAG fractional group. The pooled results showed that the effective rate of CO2 fractional laser in treating atrophic acne scar was significantly higher than that of Er:YAG fractional laser (OR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.08-3.01) and the downtime of CO2 fractional laser in treating atrophic acne scar was significantly shorter than that of Er:YAG fractional laser (Weighted Mean Difference (WMD) = -2.11, 95% CI: -3.11 to -1.10). In addition, VAS of CO2 fractional laser in treating atrophic acne scar was significantly higher than that of Er:YAG fractional laser (WMD = 1.77, 95% CI: 1.32-2.21) and the duration of erythema of CO2 fractional laser in treating atrophic acne scar was significantly longer than that of Er:YAG fractional laser (WMD = 1.85, 95% CI: 1.63-2.07). However, there was no significant difference in the duration of pain and incidence of PIHbetween CO2 fractional laser and of Er:YAG fractional laser. CONCLUSION: When it comes to treating atrophic acne scars, CO2 fractional laser demonstrates superior efficacy and leads to shorter downtime. However, it is important to note that CO2 fractional laser treatments tend to result in higher pain intensity and may carry a higher risk of post-treatment pigmentation compared to Er:YAG fractional laser procedures.

Verruca vulgaris, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), can profoundly impact an individual's quality of life and necessitate therapeutic intervention. The challenges associated with treating verruca vulgaris are particularly noteworthy when they manifest as the Koebner phenomenon (KP). In this report, we present two cases of verruca vulgaris that developed KP following cryotherapy. Some studies have suggested that pretreatment with laser therapy enhances the efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). Given the inefficacy of cryotherapy and the emergence of KP in our patients, we opted for a treatment approach that combined PDT with CO2 fractional laser (CO2FL), resulting in complete resolution without any notable adverse effects or recurrence during the follow-up period. Our cases underscore the importance of considering KP when verruca vulgaris exhibit enlargement and proliferation post-cryotherapy. Furthermore, this combined treatment modality demonstrates its effectiveness and safety. Additionally, our experience highlights the need for a large-scale study to determine the optimal photosensitizer concentration for the treatment of thick, enlarged verruca vulgaris.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Hypertrophic scarring is a complex process, and numerous methods have been introduced to treat scars. This study aims to evaluate the effect of combined CO2 fractional laser and narrowband intense pulsed light (IPL) compared to IPL alone in the treatment of hypertrophic scars. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a prospective, randomized controlled study enrolled 138 patients with hypertrophic scars. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: CO2-IPL and IPL group, and received three sessions at 10-14-week intervals for 3-month follow-up. Two independent plastic surgeons evaluated the treatments using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scales (POSAS). Overall satisfaction was evaluated using the Patient Satisfaction Scale (PSS). RESULTS: 101 subjects completed the study. Compared to single IPL, the combination CO2-IPL group showed a significant improvement in itching, color, stiffness, thickness, and irregularity, except for pain, and an enhancement in vascularization, pigmentation, thickness, relief, and pliability of the scar, assessed by POSAS (p < .01). 100% patients in the combination group were satisfied compared to 84% in IPL alone. CONCLUSION: The combination of CO2 fractional laser and narrowband IPL efficiently improved the appearance and profile of hypertrophic scars, offering a comprehensive and reliable approach for scar therapy.

INTRODUCTION: This is a presentation of a study protocol in order to evaluate whether the application of CO2 laser can additionally benefit the improvement of the symptoms of overactive bladder in postmenopausal women who have just started mirabegron as a treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a study protocol of a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. A total of 50 menopausal women will participate in the study. All patients will start treatment with mirabegron 50 mg and will be randomized into two groups. Women in group A (control) will undergo CO2 laser treatments while those in group B (placebo group) will receive placebo CO2 laser treatments. In total, three monthly sessions will be held in both groups. The monitoring and evaluation of the results will be carried out by completing a three-day urination diary, as well as by completing the Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, Overactive Bladder Questionnaire, King's Health Questionnaire, Urinary Distress Inventory, Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire, Patient Global Impression of Improvement, before each session and a month after the last one. Differences between groups will be assessed at baseline and every month following the three laser therapies. RESULTS: This is an ongoing study protocol, and we are expecting the analysis of the results in 2024. CONCLUSIONS: The use of laser CO2 in postmenopausal women with overactive bladder syndrome may be a well-tolerated alternative treatment. The goal of our study is to evaluate the efficacy of laser treatment in combination with b3-adrenoreceptor agonist therapy.

BACKGROUND: The appearance of skin scars is known as one of the main side effects of skin burns. Stromal vascular fraction (SVF), as a rich source of cell populations with tissue regeneration properties, plays an important role in the healing of skin lesions. Fractional CO2 lasers have occupied a special place in treating skin lesions, particularly skin scars, since their introduction. Our study aimed to compare the combination of SVF and fractional CO2 laser with fractional CO2 laser alone in the treatment of burn scars. METHOD: This double-blind clinical trial study was conducted on ten patients with burn scars that were treated three times with a fractional CO2 laser at site of burn lesions, and one of the two areas studied was randomly injected with SVF. Two months after completion of the procedure, patients' scars were assessed using the Vancouver scar scale (VSS), biometric criteria, and physician and patient satisfaction ratings. RESULTS: The results confirmed a significant improvement in VSS, cutometry, R7 criteria, complete density sonography, and skin density sonography in the fractional CO2 laser-treated group. The VSS criteria, epidermal thickness sonography, complete density sonography, and skin density sonography in the group treated with the combination of fractional CO2 laser and SVF also showed significant improvement. The VSS criteria and melanin index of Mexameter in the group treated with SVF in combination with fractional CO2 laser were significantly better than the group treated with fractional CO2 laser alone. Also, physician and patient satisfaction in the group treated with SVF injection in combination with fractional CO2 laser was significantly higher than the other group. CONCLUSION: The results confirm the efficacy of SVF injection in combination with fractional CO2 laser in the treatment of burn scars and can be considered as a treatment option for better management of these lesions. Background: Hypertrophic scars are skin fibrotic diseases, characterized by fibroblast hyperproliferation and excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix. However, topical drug application for hypertrophic scars are unsatisfactory. The purpose of this study was to explore the permeability of silk nanofiber hydrogels (SNFs) loaded with rhodamine 6G (R6G) and rhodamine 110 (R110) mediated by CO2 fractional laser irradiation into hypertrophic scar tissues. Methods: In this work, R6G and R110 were chosen as hydrophilic and hydrophobic model molecules. They were loaded inside SNFs. In vivo rabbit ear hypertrophic scars were treated with CO2 fractional laser irradiation and then R6G/R110-laden SNFs were applied to the scars to evaluate their synergetic effect on drug penetration efficiency. Their permeability was quantified by fluorescence intensity and measured by confocal laser scanning microscopy on days 1, 3, 5 and 7. More specifically, the thermal coagulation zone (CZ) and its surrounding area (peri-CZ) caused by the thermal coagulation of the laser were discussed separately. Results: Our data indicated that the SNFs promoted the penetration of R6G but not that of R110 in the peri-CZ on day 1 when combined with laser irradiation. Interestingly, both R6G and R110 were abundant in the CZ and remained stable on days 1, 3 and 5. Moreover, rapid re-epithelialization hindered the long-term permeability of both drugs. Conclusion: Combining CO2 fractional laser irradiation with SNF drug delivery could improve the efficiency of hydrophilic drug delivery within 24 h before total re-epithelialization.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of fractional CO2 laser and 1,550 nm Er: glass laser in the treatment for the patients with striae albae. Methods: The female adults with striae albae in the abdomen for at least 12 months were recruited. After informed consent obtained, the patient received three treatments at 2-month intervals. The lesions on the left abdomen were treated with 10,600 nm CO2 fractional laser and right side treated with 1,550 nm Er: glass fractional laser. The pictures were taken before each visit and 3 months after the final treatment. The criteria for the evaluations using a quartile grading scale were excellent (76-100%), good (51-75%), fair (26-50%), poor (1-25%), and no improvement (0%). The safety and efficacy of the two lasers were independently evaluated using before and after photographs by two dermatologists. In addition, the self-reports to investigate the pain and satisfaction from patients were also recorded. Results: Totally, 27 cases were recruited, and 25 patients completed the treatments and follow-up. The excellent and good results (improvement of 51-100%) were achieved on the right abdomen in 84% of the patients, while 48% on the left site (p < 0.05). Hyper-pigmentation was seen in 20% of the patients assessed on the left abdomen and only in 8% on the right abdomen. During the treatments, average score of the pain on the right abdomen was 5.41 ± 2.13, which was higher than that on the left (4.19 ± 2.12) (p < 0.001). No permanent hyper-pigmentation was found on the both sides. Considering the whole treatments, the patients favored the modality used on the right side (80 vs. 68%, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Compared with CO2 fractional laser, 1,550 nm Er: glass fractional laser therapy provides the significantly better clinical outcomes and fewer side effects in the treatment of striae albae. Limitations: The sample size and follow-up time were limited.
