RESUMO

Bellini duct carcinoma is a very rare type of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), accounting for less than 1%. It arises from the distal nephron, more specifically from the collecting duct. Its morphological features are extremely variable, making its diagnosis difficult. We report the case of a 62-year old patient admitted with a painless progressive left flank swelling. CT scan showed a huge mass occupying the upper portion of the left kidney. The patient underwent radical nephrectomy. Anatomopathological examination showed collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney. Patient's evolution was exceptionally favorable: no recurrence, no locoregional metastasis and no distant metastasis.

RESUMO

Bladder leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon tumour. Early diagnosis and aggressive surgical treatment are necessary to ensure patient survival. The authors report a case of bladder leiomyosarcoma treated by radical cystoprostatectomy and enterocystoplasty with a favourable outcome at 32 months. The author analyse the clinical and histological features and the treatment of this rare tumour.

RESUMO

Retroperitoneal nerve sheath tumors (RNST), which include benign and malignant schwannomas and neurofibromas, are rare. A 71-year-old woman was complaining of flank pain. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed a retroperitoneal tumor measuring 22 x 15. It was successfully removed and extirpated through a midline laparotomy incision. It weighed 7 kgs. Histochemical and immunohistochemical staining of the tumor are useful for the diagnosis of solitary neurofibroma. After a two year follow-up, the patient is in good health, asymptomatic and without evidence of local recurrence.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with more human cancers than any other virus. Many studies have investigated the association between bladder cancer and HPV but the results remain controversial. The aim of the present study is to evaluate whether HPV have an etiological role in bladder carcinogenesis among Moroccan patients. METHODOLOGY: Forty-eight fresh biopsies (43 bladder tumors and 5 non-tumor samples) were collected for this purpose. Nested PCR with the consensus MY09/MY11 and GP5+/GP6+ primers was performed to detect the presence of HPV L1 gene DNA. RESULTS: The results showed that 52.4% of bladder cancer patients were positive for HPV. Subsequent DNA sequencing of positive cases of HPV revealed the presence of HPV16 in 95.5% of bladder tumor samples. The occurrence of HPV infection varies according to clinicopathological features, but there is no significant correlation between the viral infection and tumor stage or grade. In addition, statistical analysis demonstrated that there is no association between age or sex and HPV infection. CONCLUSION: Our data indicate for the first time that bladder tumors from Moroccan patients harbor HR-HPV genotypes, especially HPV16, and thereby suggest that this virus may play a causative role in bladder cancer.

RESUMO

Paratesticular adenofibroma is an uncommon benign tumour. Although it has previously been reported in the female reproductive organs, to our knowledge only three cases have previously been reported in the male genital organs. Herein we describe an adenofibroma that developed in the tunica vaginalis and rete testis. We discuss its histogenesis and conservative treatment.

RESUMO

Hypercalcaemia is a frequent complication of multiple myeloma. A mild degree of nephrocalcinosis has been noted in occasional patients and renal calculi are also sometimes present. We report herein a case of multiple myeloma that was revealed by the presence of bilateral calcium renal staghorn calculi. Medical treatment of myeloma, surgical management of this complex lithiasis and the course of multiple myeloma are discussed.
