RESUMO

A self-care crisis follows a predictable, four-step pattern: Tension-building, flood zone, recovery, equilibrium. When we learn to identify our tension-building signals and intervene quickly by using tailored coping strategies, we often are able to alleviate emotional distress and regain equilibrium. This article identifies three self-reflective exercises that could be used to increase insight, identify early signals of self-care tension-building, and encourage intentional selection of coping strategies.

RESUMO

Purpose of Review: This review seeks to identify factors contributing to the changing epidemiology of Chagas disease in the United States of America (US). By showcasing screening programs for Chagas disease that currently exist in endemic and non-endemic settings, we make recommendations for expanding access to Chagas disease diagnosis and care in the US. Recent Findings: Several factors including but not limited to increasing migration, climate change, rapid population growth, growing urbanization, changing transportation patterns, and rising poverty are thought to contribute to changes in the epidemiology of Chagas disease in the US. Outlined are some examples of successful screening programs for Chagas disease in other countries as well as in some areas of the US, notably those which focus on screening high-risk populations and are linked to affordable and effective treatment options. Summary: Given concerns that Chagas disease prevalence and even risk of transmission may be increasing in the US, there is a need for improving detection and treatment of the disease. There are many successful screening programs in place that can be replicated and/or expanded upon in the US. Specifically, we propose integrating Chagas disease into relevant clinical guidelines, particularly in cardiology and obstetrics/gynecology, and using advocacy as a tool to raise awareness of Chagas disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) is widely used in online teaching and learning, especially in STEM education. However, educational research on using Moodle is scattered throughout the literature. Therefore, this review aims to summarise this research to assist three sets of stakeholders-educators, researchers, and software developers. It identifies: (a) how and where Moodle has been adopted; (b) what the concerns, trends, and gaps are to lead future research and software development; and (c) innovative and effective methods for improving online teaching and learning. The review used the 4-step PRISMA-P process to identify 155 suitable journal articles from 104 journals in 55 countries published from January 2015 to June 2021. The database search was conducted with Scopus and Web of Science. Insights into the educational use of Moodle were determined through bibliometric analysis with Vosviewer outputs and thematic analysis. RESULTS: This review shows that Moodle is mainly used within University STEM disciplines and effectively improves student performance, satisfaction, and engagement. Moodle is increasingly being used as a platform for adaptive and collaborative learning and used to improve online assessments. The use of Moodle is developing rapidly to address academic integrity, ethics, and security issues to enhance speed and navigation, and incorporate artificial intelligence. CONCLUSION: More qualitative research is required on the use of Moodle, particularly investigating educators' perspectives. Further research is also needed on the use of Moodle in non-STEM and non-tertiary disciplines. Further studies need to incorporate educational theories when designing courses using the Moodle platform.

RESUMO

Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) injectable products are a key commodity for reproductive health and are available in the global market from a variety of manufacturing sources. Depending on the climatic zone conditions of the destination country for product use, MPA injectables are at risk of exposure to adverse transport and storage conditions. Analytical methods are available that quantify impurity levels in MPA and MPA injectable products, but minimal information is publicly available on the source of impurity and degradation product generation or the safety risk of these compounds. Forced degradation studies were conducted on MPA and MPA injectables to gain a better understanding of potential sources of impurities and degradation products. Furthermore, QSAR analysis was conducted to assess the toxicity risk of known impurities. More impurities were generated under acidic, basic, light, and oxidative forced degradation conditions relative to thermal degradation, however thermal exposure is the most likely adverse condition to be experienced by these products. Even if impurities are present in MPA injectables, QSAR analysis found that known impurities for MPA are apparently no more of a safety risk than MPA.

RESUMO

Nanoparticle/molecule/nanoparticle dimer assemblies have been successfully trapped by dielectrophoresis across nanogap electrodes, enabling temperature dependent charge transport measurements through an oligomeric phenylene ethynylene molecule, and transition from direct tunnelling to Fowler-Nordheim tunnelling is observed at approximately 1.5 V. Samples formed by dielectrophoresis show better contact stability than those formed by receding meniscus. The junction shows stable operation over several weeks in a vacuum, but current increases with time upon exposure to air, possibly due to the adsorbed water molecules near the molecule/gold nanoparticle contacts.

RESUMO

We report an upconverting nanomaterial composition, [Y(2)O(3); Yb (2%), Er (1%)], that converts both X-ray and high-fluence NIR irradiation to visible light. This composition is compared to a higher Yb(3+) doped composition, [Y(2)O(3); Yb (10%), Er (1%)], that displays diminished visible X-ray scintillation, but shows enhanced red wavelength centered upconversion emission. These nanocrystals have been characterized by TEM, X-ray diffraction, power-dependent upconversion luminescence, and X-ray scintillation spectroscopy. We further demonstrate that lithium ion doping of the [Y(2)O(3); Yb (2%), Er (1%)] nanoscale composition leads to enhanced X-ray and NIR excited emission intensities through the production of nanoparticles that feature slightly enhanced sizes and increased crystallinity.

RESUMO

Conductance through single-molecule junctions, consisting of nanoparticle/molecule/nanoparticle units between nanoscale planar electrodes, was monitored in real time during several process sequences, including dielectrophoretic directed self-assembly and post-assembly modification. Assembly faults are directly detected in real time when non-ideal assembly conditions result in molecular junction failure and nanoparticle fusion in the junction. The real-time conductivity measured through the junction was sensitive to ambient conditions, and changes persisted over several days of exposure. Atomic layer deposition of Al(2)O(3) was used to encapsulate and isolate the molecular junctions, and the effect of the deposition process sequence on current through the junction was evaluated in real time. Results indicate that the current measured during atomic layer deposition is sensitive to the chemical oxidation and reduction reactions proceeding in the 1-2 nm confined region between assembled nanoparticles.
