OBJECTIVES: Hypothermia is highly common in patients undergoing gynecological surgeries under general anesthesia, so the length of hospitalization and even the risk of mortality are substantially increased. Our aim was to develop a simple and practical model to preoperatively identify gynecological surgery patients at risk of intraoperative hypothermia. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we collected data from 802 patients who underwent gynecological surgery at three medical centers from June 2022 to August 2023. We further allocated the patients to a training group, an internal validation group, or an external validation group. The preliminary predictive factors for intraoperative hypothermia in gynecological patients were determined using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method. The final predictive factors were subsequently identified through multivariate logistic regression analysis, and a nomogram for predicting the occurrence of hypothermia was established. RESULTS: A total of 802 patients were included, with 314 patients in the training cohort (mean age 48.5 ± 12.6 years), 130 patients in the internal validation cohort (mean age 49.9 ± 12.5 years), and 358 patients in the external validation cohort (mean age 47.6 ± 14.0 years). LASSO regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that body mass index, minimally invasive surgery, baseline heart rate, baseline body temperature, history of previous surgery, and aspartate aminotransferase level were associated with intraoperative hypothermia in gynecological surgery patients. This nomogram was constructed based on these six variables, with a C-index of 0.712 for the training cohort. CONCLUSIONS: We established a practical predictive model that can be used to preoperatively predict the occurrence of hypothermia in gynecological surgery patients. BACKGROUND: Previous studies have examined anesthetics to improve postoperative prognosis after knee arthroscopic surgery. However, it is currently unknown whether perioperative anesthetics can influence postoperative hospital stay. We investigated the impact of esketamine after knee arthroscopic surgery on post-operative length of stay, fever and surgical site infection. METHODS: This study included 455 patients who underwent knee surgery between January2020 and August 2021at a tertiary hospital in China. Patient characteristics, preoperative laboratory values, intra-operative anesthetic data, and postoperative outcomes were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses with or without propensity score matching were performed to identify factors related to post-operative discharge within 3 days(PD3). RESULTS: A total of 297 cases met our inclusion criteria. The mean age of patients was 42 ± 14 years, mean body mass index, 24.1 ± 3.5 kg/m2, 157(53%) patients were male. Meniscus-related procedures accounted for the most part of all the procedures with a percentage of 40.4%, followed by combined procedures of 35.4%. After we adjusted for demographic and intraoperative characteristics with propensity score matching, esketamine use was significantly associated with PD3 with the highest odds ratio of 2.28 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18-4.41, p = 0.014). CONCLUSION: Esketamine use was associated with PD3 in patients underwent knee arthroscopic surgery. The findings of this study will be useful to anesthesiologists in making informed decisions regarding the choice of anesthetics for knee joint diseases. A Gram-straining-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile by means of a polar flagellum and rod-shaped marine bacterium, designated S4M6T, was isolated from surface seawater collected in Dongshan Bay (Fujian, PR China). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA genes, phylogenomic analysis of single-copy gene families and whole genome data indicated that S4M6T represented a member of the genus Vibrio. The closest phylogenetic relatives of S4M6T were Vibrio marisflavi CGMCC 1.8994T (97.8â% 16S rRNA gene sequence pairwise similarity), Vibrio variabilis LMG 25438T (96.9â%), Vibrio gangliei SZDIS-1T (96.2â%) and Vibrio aestivus M22T (96.1â%). The growth of S4M6T occurred at 15-35 °C (optimum 28 °C), pH 4.0-9.0 (optimum 5.0-7.0) and in the presence of 2-5â% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 3â%). The predominant fatty acids (>10â%) are C16â:â0, summed feature 3 (C16â:â1ω7c and/or C16â:â 1ω6c) and summed feature 8 (C18â:â1ω7c and/or C18â:â 1ω6c). The DNA G+C content of the assembled genomic sequences was 43.4â% for S4M6T. Average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between S4M6T and the reference species were lower than the threshold for species delineation (95-96â%); in silico DNA-DNA hybridization further indicated that S4M6T had less than 70â% similarity to its relatives. On the basis of the polyphasic evidence, strain S4M6T is proposed to represent a novel species of the genus Vibrio, for which the name Vibrio sinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S4M6T (= KCTC 92312T= MCCC 1K06167T).

A Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, methylphosphonate-decomposing, motile by a polar flagellum and rod-shaped marine bacterium, designated S4B1T, was isolated from the surface seawater collected from the Yongle Atoll (Xisha Islands, PR China). The pairwise alignment showed the highest sequence similarity of 97.5 and 96.6â% to Vibrio aestuarianus subsp. cardii 12_122_3T3T and Vibrio atypicus HHS02T, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene and the phylogenomic analysis of single-copy genes showed that strain S4B1T belonged to the genus Vibrio and formed a close branch with Vibrio qingdaonensis ZSDZ65T. Growth of strain S4B1T occurred at 4-30â°C (optimum, 28â°C), at pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 2-7â% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3â%). The predominant fatty acids (>10â%) were C16â:â0, iso-C16â:â0 and summed feature 3 (C16â:â1 ω7c or/and C16â:â1 ω6c). The DNA G+C content of the assembled genomic sequence was 44.3âmol%. Average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between S4B1T and its reference species were lower than the threshold for species delineation (95-96â%), in which its highest ANI value with V. qingdaonensis ZSDZ65T was 87.0â%. In silico DNA-DNA hybridization further showed that strain S4B1T had less than 70â% similarity to its relatives. On the basis of the polyphasic evidence, strain S4B1T is proposed to represent a novel species of the genus Vibrio, for which the name Vibrio methylphosphonaticus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S4B1T (=KCTC 92311T=MCCC 1K06168T).

Acute kidney injury (AKI) after liver transplantation (LT) is a common complication, and its development is thought to be multifactorial. We aimed to investigate potential risk factors and build a model to identify high-risk patients. A total of 199 LT patients were enrolled and each patient data was collected from the electronic medical records. Our primary outcome was postoperative AKI as diagnosed and classified by the KDIGO criteria. A least absolute shrinkage and selection operating algorithm and multivariate logistic regression were utilized to select factors and construct the model. Discrimination and calibration were used to estimate the model performance. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was applied to assess the clinical application value. Five variables were identified as independent predictors for post-LT AKI, including whole blood serum lymphocyte count, RBC count, serum sodium, insulin dosage and anhepatic phase urine volume. The nomogram model showed excellent discrimination with an AUC of 0.817 (95% CI: 0.758-0.876) in the training set. The DCA showed that at a threshold probability between 1% and 70%, using this model clinically may add more benefit. In conclusion, we developed an easy-to-use tool to calculate the risk of post-LT AKI. This model may help clinicians identify high-risk patients.

BACKGROUND: Controlled low central venous pressure (CLCVP) technique has been extensively validated in clinical practices to decrease intraoperative bleeding during liver resection process; however, no studies to date have attempted to propose a scoring method to better understand what risk factors might still be responsible for bleeding when CLCVP technique was implemented. METHODS: We aimed to use machine learning to develop a model for detecting the risk factors of major bleeding in patients who underwent liver resection using CLCVP technique. We reviewed the medical records of 1077 patients who underwent liver surgery between January 2017 and June 2020. We evaluated the XGBoost model and logistic regression model using stratified K-fold cross-validation (K = 5), and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, the recall rate, precision rate, and accuracy score were calculated and compared. The SHapley Additive exPlanations was employed to identify the most influencing factors and their contribution to the prediction. RESULTS: The XGBoost classifier with an accuracy of 0.80 and precision of 0.89 outperformed the logistic regression model with an accuracy of 0.76 and precision of 0.79. According to the SHapley Additive exPlanations summary plot, the top six variables ranked from most to least important included intraoperative hematocrit, surgery duration, intraoperative lactate, preoperative hemoglobin, preoperative aspartate transaminase, and Pringle maneuver duration. CONCLUSIONS: Anesthesiologists should be aware of the potential impact of increased Pringle maneuver duration and lactate levels on intraoperative major bleeding in patients undergoing liver resection with CLCVP technique. What is already known on this topic-Low central venous pressure technique has already been extensively validated in clinical practices, with no prediction model for major bleeding. What this study adds-The XGBoost classifier outperformed logistic regression model for the prediction of major bleeding during liver resection with low central venous pressure technique. How this study might affect research, practice, or policy-anesthesiologists should be aware of the potential impact of increased PM duration and lactate levels on intraoperative major bleeding in patients undergoing liver resection with CLCVP technique.

Increased sympathetic nerve excitability has been reported to aggravate a variety of chronic pain conditions, and an increase in the number of sympathetic nerve fibers in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) has been found in neuropathic pain (NP) models. However, the mechanism of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE) released by sympathetic nerve fiber endings on the excitability of DRG neurons is still controversial, and the adrenergic receptor subtypes involved in this biological process are also controversial. In our study, we have two objectives: (1) To determine the effect of the neurotransmitter NE on the excitability of different neurons in DRG; (2) To determine which adrenergic receptors are involved in the excitability of DRG neurons by NE released by sprouting sympathetic fibers. In this experiment, a unique field potential recording method of spinal cord dorsal horn was innovatively adopted, which can be used for electrophysiological study in vivo. The results showed thatï¼ Forty days after SNI, patch clamp and field potential recording methods confirmed that NE enhanced the excitability of ipsilateral DRG large neurons, and then our in vivo electrophysiological results showed that the α2 receptor blocker Yohimbine could block the excitatory effect of NE on A-fiber and the inhibitory effect on C-fiber, while the α2A-adrenergic receptor agonist guanfacine (100 µM) had the same biological effect as NE. Finally, we concluded that NE from sympathetic fiber endings is involved in the regulation of pain signaling by acting on α2A-adrenergic receptors in DRG.

Momordica cochinchinensis (Lour.) Spreng is an indigenous South Asian edible fruit, and seeds of Momordica cochinchinensis have been used therapeutically in traditional Chinese medicine. Previous studies have shown that M. cochinchinensis seed (Momordicae Semen) has various pharmaceutical properties such as antioxidant and anti-ulcer effects as well as contains secondary metabolites with potential anticancer activities such as triterpenoids and saponins. Recent studies reported that water extract and ethanol extract of M. cochinchinensi seed were tested on mammals using an acute toxic classic method as OECD guidelines 420. No matter injected intravenously or intramuscularly, animals died within several days. In this study, zebrafish embryos were exposed to various doses of Cochinchina momordica seed extract (CMSE) from 2 dpf (days post fertilization, dpf) to 3 dpf. CMSE-induced cardiotoxicity such as pericardial edema, cardiac apoptosis, increased ROS production, cardiac neutrophil infiltration, decreased blood flow velocity, and reduced expression of three marker genes of cardiac functions were found in zebrafish roughly in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that CMSE may induce cardiotoxicity through pathways involved in inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis.

Inflammation always accompanies infection during sepsis. Mitochondrial dysfunction and the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by mitochondria have been proposed in the pathogenesis of sepsis. Maresins have protective and resolving effects in experimental models of infection. In the present study, we investigated the effects of maresin 1 (MaR1) on mitochondrial function in cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced sepsis and sepsis patients to identify mechanisms underlying maresin 1-mediated stimulation of ROS in mitochondria. We found that treatment with MaR1 significantly inhibited production of cytokines, decreased bacterial load in the peritoneal lavage fluid, reduced the number of neutrophils, decreased lactic acid level and upregulated cyclic AMP (cAMP) concentration, with the outcome of decreased lung injury in CLP-induced sepsis in mice. The effects of MaR1 on downregulation nitric oxide (NOX) activity, improvement CAT and SOD activity to inhibit ROS production in mitochondria was dependent on lipoxin receptor (ALX) and cAMP. Survival rates were significantly increased after the treatment of mice with MaR1. In BMDM stimulated with LPS, MaR1 inhibited the ROS production, downregulated enzyme activity, reduced mtO2 production, increased mitochondrial membrane potential, improved adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number. Finally, the effects of MaR1 on ROS production in the blood of healthy volunteers stimulated with LPS or sepsis patients were associated with ALX and cAMP. Taken together, these data suggest that treatment with MaR1 could attenuate mitochondrial dysfunction during sepsis through regulating ROS production.

With the aging process of the global population and the development of medical technology, the cases of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) are also increasing. Due to the complexity of the pathogenesis, urgent treatment has been sought. Neuroinflammation induced by the accumulation of lipid droplets (LDs) in microglia has been closely watched in recent years and is also considered to be an important cause of nerve damage. Our study found that derived from Withania somnifera, Withaferin A (WA) could reduce the accumulation of LDs in the hippocampus of POCD mice, inhibit the expression of inflammatory factor interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), and improve the cognitive ability of mice. Further in vitro experimental studies showed that WA increased the autophagy level of microglia, promoted the degradation of LDs, and reduced the production of inflammatory factors. In this regard, our comprehensive research endeavor holds the potential to furnish novel insights into therapeutic strategies aimed at addressing POCD and its associated neural impairments.

Zebrafish is a highly advantageous model animal for drug screening and toxicity evaluation thanks to its amenability to optical imaging (i.e., transparency), possession of organ structures similar to humans, and the ease with which disease models can be established. However, current zebrafish drug screening technologies and devices suffer from limitations such as low level of automation and throughput, and low accuracy caused by the heterogeneity among individual zebrafish specimens. To address these issues, we herein develop a high-throughput zebrafish drug screening system. This system is capable of maintaining optimal culturing conditions and simultaneously monitoring and analyzing the movement of 288 zebrafish larvae under various external conditions, such as drug combinations. Moreover, to eliminate the effect of heterogeneity, locomotion of participating zebrafish is assessed and grouped before experiments. It is demonstrated that in contrast to the experimental results without pre-selection, which shows â¼20 % damaged motor function (i.e., degree of attenuation), the drug-induced variations among zebrafish with equivalent mobility reaches â¼80 %. Overall, our high-throughput zebrafish drug screening system overcomes current limitations by improving automation, throughput, and accuracy, resulting in enhanced detection of drug-induced variations in zebrafish motor function.

Reef-building coral species of the order Scleractinia play an important role in shallow tropical seas by providing an environmental base for the ecosystem. The molecular data of complete mitochondrial genome have become an important source for evaluating phylogenetic and evolutionary studies of Scleractinia. Here, the complete mitogenome of Homophyllia bowerbanki (Milne Edwards and Haime, 1857), collected from Nansha Islands of the South China Sea, was sequenced for the first time through a next-generation sequencing method. H. bowerbanki is the first species of its genus for which the mitogenome was sequenced. This mitogenome was 18,154 bp in size and included two transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). It showed a similar gene structure and gene order to the other typical scleractinians. All 17 genes were encoded on the H strand and the total GC content was 33.86% in mitogenome. Phylogenetic analysis (maximum likelihood tree method) showed that H. bowerbanki belonged to the "Robust" clade and clustered together with other two species in the family Lobophylliidae based on 13 PCGs. The mitogenome can provide significant molecular information to clarify the evolutionary and phylogenetic relationships between stony corals and to facilitate their taxonomic classification; it can also support coral species monitoring and conservation efforts.

Lead (Pb) contamination is a worldwide public health threaten. Besides close restraint of lead exposure, it's emergency to discover compounds that could help to cue toxicities caused by lead. Zebrafish embryos and early larvae can serve as valuable screening tools in early pre-clinical phase of drug screening and research. In order to establish a zebrafish lead poisoning model that could be used for drug screening and research, zebrafish embryos at 6â¯h post-fertilization (hpf) were treated with lead at different concentrations by soaking intermittently, raised in lead work solution at night while in fish water during the day. After treated for 90â¯h, death and severe trunk curvature were observed on zebrafish in 640⯵M group, obvious dysplasia, blood toxicity, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), severe neurotoxicity, such as shorter length of peripheral motor neurons, neuronal apoptosis, and axonal injury, and neurobehavior impairment were induced by lead at 80, 160 and 320⯵M, similar to phenotypes reported in rodent. Moreover, the mRNA level of genes related to neurodevelopment, memory, and antioxidation were significantly down regulated, and apoptosis-related genes were up regulated, consistent to zebrafish phenotypic change. Finally, zebrafish were intermittently exposed to 80⯵M lead solution to establish the lead poisoning model, and the efficacy of a safe chelating agent Meso-2,3-Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) was tested at a series of concentrations to validate the zebrafish model. The result showed concentration-dependent decrease of lead content in zebrafish in DMSA treated groups compared with model group. The above data fully demonstrated a zebrafish model of lead poisoning suitable for drug screening was successfully developed, which was expected to provide a rapid and economic tools for discovering antidotes of lead and drugs of neuroprotection.

BACKGROUND: A predictive model that can identify patients who are at increased risk of intraoperative blood transfusion could guide preoperative transfusion risk counseling, optimize health care resources, and reduce medical costs. Although previous studies have identified some predictors for particular populations, there is currently no existing model that uses preoperative variables to accurately predict blood transfusion during surgery, which could help anesthesiologists optimize intraoperative anesthetic management. METHODS: We collected data from 582 patients who underwent elective liver resection at a university-affiliated tertiary hospital between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2020. The data set was then randomly divided into a training set (n = 410) and a validation set (n = 172) at a 7:3 ratio. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operating regression model was used to select the optimal feature, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to construct the transfusion risk model. The concordance index (C-index) and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the discrimination ability, and the calibration ability was assessed with calibration curves. In addition, we used decision curve analysis (DCA) to estimate the clinical application value. For external validation, the test set data were employed. RESULTS: The final model had 8 predictor variables for intraoperative blood transfusion, which included the following: preoperative hemoglobin level, preoperative prothrombin time >14 s, preoperative total bilirubin >21 µmol/L, respiratory diseases, cirrhosis, maximum lesion diameter >5 cm, macrovascular invasion, and previous abdominal surgery. The model showed a C-index of 0.834 (95% confidence interval, 0.789-0.879) for the training set and 0.831 (95% confidence interval, 0.766-0.896) for the validation set. The AUCs were 0.834 and 0.831 for the training and validation sets, respectively. The calibration curve showed that our model had good consistency between the predictions and observations. The DCA demonstrated that the transfusion nomogram was reliable for clinical applications when an intervention was decided at the possible threshold across 1%-99% for the training set. CONCLUSION: We developed a predictive model with excellent accuracy and discrimination ability that can help identify those patients at higher odds of intraoperative blood transfusion. This tool may help guide preoperative counseling regarding transfusion risk, optimize health care resources, reduce medical costs, and optimize anesthetic management during surgery.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction due to disturbance of the host's response to infection, and is often accompanied by shock. Timely and standardized hemodynamic management can effectively control disease progression. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) refers to tissue and organ perfusion and is one of the key factors for patient recovery. In this study, we focused on the relationship between MAP levels and 30-day mortality in patients with sepsis. Methods: This cohort study included 14,607 sepsis patients out of 38,597 adults admitted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston between 2001 and 2012, according to the Sepsis 3.0 diagnostic criteria. According to the MAP value of the sepsis patients on the first day of intensive care unit (ICU) admission, they were divided into 5 groups (Q1 ≤67.4 mmHg, Q2 67.4-72.5 mmHg, Q3 72.5-77.6 mmHg, Q4 77.6-84.6 mmHg, Q5 ≥84.6 mmHg). At the same time, the baseline data of vital signs, critical illness score, comorbidities and laboratory examination were collected on the first day of admission to ICU. The 30-day mortality of the 5 groups of patients and the overall sepsis patients were recorded. Multivariate Cox regression analysis and smooth curve fitting were used to assess the independent association between MAP and 30-day mortality. Results: A total of 14,607 sepsis patients were screened. The mean age of participants was 67.2±16.3 years, approximately 46.9% were women, and the overall 30-day mortality rate was 21.0%. Multivariate Cox regression models and smooth curve fitting revealed a non-linear association between MAP and 30-day mortality. The inflection point occurred at 68.6 mmHg. The left side effect size of each 10-unit change in the exposure factor was [hazard ratio (HR): 0.479, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.403-0.569, P<0.001]. To the right of the inflection point, the effect size was (HR: 0.996, 95% CI: 0.931-1.065, P<0.9018). Conclusions: Our study demonstrated a non-linear relationship between MAP and 30-day mortality in patients with sepsis. When MAP was less than 68.6 mmHg, it was a strong predictor of the potential risk of sepsis death, which declined by 52.1% for every 10 mmHg growth in MAP.

Montiporavietnamensis Veron, 2000 (Cnidaria, Anthozoa, Scleractinia, Acroporidae) is an uncommon, but distinctive species of stony coral. The complete mitochondrial genome of M.vietnamensis was sequenced in this study for the first time, based on 32 pairs of primers newly designed according to seven species in the family Acroporidae. The mitogenome of M.vietnamensis has a circular form and is 17,885 bp long, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 tRNA (tRNAMet, tRNATrp), 2 rRNA genes and a putative control-region. The base composition of the complete mitogenome was 24.8% A, 14.2% C, 24.2% G and 36.8% T, with a higher AT content (61.6%) than GC content (38.4%). Based on 13 protein-coding genes, a Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic analysis showed that M.vietnamensis is clustered in the genus Montipora which belongs to the family Acroporidae. More stony coral species should be sequenced for basic molecular information and to help confirm the taxonomic status and evolutionary relationships of Scleractinia in the future.

In this study, the whole mitochondrial genomes of Physogyralichtensteini and Plerogyrasinuosa have been sequenced for the first time. The length of their assembled mitogenome sequences were 17,286 bp and 17,586 bp, respectively, both including 13 protein-coding genes, two tRNAs, and two rRNAs. Their mitogenomes offered no distinct structure and their gene order were the same as other typical scleractinians. Based on 13 protein-coding genes, a maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis showed that Physogyralichtensteini and Plerogyrasinuosa are clustered in the family Plerogyridae, which belongs to the "Robust" clade. The 13 tandem mitogenome PCG sequences used in this research can provide important molecular information to clarify the evolutionary relationships amongst stony corals, especially at the family level. On the other hand, more advanced markers and more species need to be used in the future to confirm the evolutionary relationships of all the scleractinians.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is a common surgical procedure for managing gallbladder disease. Prolonged length of stay (LOS) in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) may lead to overcrowding and a decline in medical resource utilization. In this work, we aimed to develop and validate a predictive nomogram for identifying patients who require prolonged PACU LOS. METHODS: Data from 913 patients undergoing LC at a single institution in China between 2018 and 2019 were collected, and grouped into a training set (456, cases during 2018) and a test set (457, cases during 2019). The definition of PACU LOS is the duration between admission to discharge from PACU, which we can derive from the electronic medical record system. Using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression model, the optimal feature was selected, and multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to build the prolonged PACU LOS risk model. The C-index, calibration plot, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used in assessing the model calibration, discrimination, and clinical application value, respectively. For external validation, the test set data was evaluated. RESULTS: The predictive nomogram had 8 predictor variables for prolonged PACU LOS, including age, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade, active smoker, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease, and cardiovascular disease. This model displayed efficient calibration and moderate discrimination with a C-index of 0.662 (95% confidence interval, 0.603 to 0.721) for the training set, and 0.609 (95% confidence interval, 0.549 to 0.669) for the test set. DCA demonstrated that the prolonged PACU LOS nomogram was reliable for clinical application when an intervention was decided at the possible threshold of 7%. CONCLUSIONS: We developed and validated a predictive nomogram with efficient calibration and moderate discrimination, and can be applied to identify patients most likely to be subjected to prolonged PACU LOS. This novel tool may shun overcrowding in PACU and optimize medical resource utilization.

This study was aimed to assess effects of three strains of probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001, and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis Bi-07 on the intestinal motility and inflammation in the zebrafish models. The intestinal motility model was established using 5 days postfertilization (dpf) zebrafish administered with a fluorescent dye Nile red at 10 ng/mL for 16 h, followed by probiotics treatment for 24 h and the intestinal motility was inversely proportional to the intestinal fluorescence intensity that was quantitatively measured by image analysis. The intestinal inflammation was induced by treating 3 dpf neutrophil fluorescent zebrafish with 0.0125% of trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid for 48 h. Probiotics were administered at low, moderate, and high concentrations determined based on maximum tolerable concentration through soaking. All three strains of probiotics promoted intestinal movement, of which B. animalis subsp. lactis Bi-07 was most potent at lower concentrations. L. rhamnosus HN001 and B. animalis subsp. lactis Bi-07 had the therapeutic effects on the intestinal inflammation and the inflammation-associated mucosal damage recovery. The anti-inflammatory mechanisms of L. rhamnosus HN001 was related to both reduce inflammatory factor interleukin-6 (IL-6) and restored tissue repair factor transforming growth factor-ß-1 (TGFß-1); whereas B. animalis subsp. lactis Bi-07 was probably only associated with TGFß-1 elevation. Using larval zebrafish models for probiotics screening and assessment would speed up product research and development and improve products' efficacy and quality.

TiO2 nanorod (NR) array for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has attained great importance due to its superb power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to that of the traditional mesoporous TiO2 film. A TiO2 compact layer for the growth of TiO2 NR array via spin-coating cannot meet the requirements for efficient NR-based PSCs. Herein, we have developed and demonstrated the insertion of a bifunctional extrathin TiO2 interlayer (5 nm) by atomic layer deposition (ALD) at the interface of the fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)/TiO2 compact layer to achieve alleviated electron exchange and a reduced energetic barrier. Thus, an accelerated extraction of electrons from TiO2 NR arrays via the compact layer and their transfer to the FTO substrate can improve the PSC efficiency. The thickness of the spin-coated TiO2 compact layer on the ALD-deposited TiO2 layer is spontaneously optimized. Finally, an outstanding efficiency of 20.28% has been achieved from a champion PSC with negligible hysteresis and high reliability. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study demonstrating the superiority of TiO2-NR-based PSCs withstanding the dry heat and thermal cycling tests. The results are of great importance for the preparation of efficient and durable PSCs for real-world applications.
