RESUMO

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of 8 weeks of small-sided basketball games (SSG) training using baskets (SSGbk) and ball possession games without baskets (SSGbpg) on various neuromuscular parameters in young male basketball players. Specifically, the study examined unilateral isometric knee flexor strength (KFS), unilateral isometric knee extensor strength (KES), bilateral countermovement jump peak power and peak landing force (CMJ), and leg land and hold test (LHT) peak landing force. This randomized controlled study included two experimental groups (SSGbk and SSGbpg) and one control group. Fifty regional competitive-level male youth basketball players (16.7 ± 0.5 years) were assigned to the groups. The experimental groups participated in two additional SSG weekly training sessions over 8 weeks. Both experimental groups were exposed to the same 2v2 to 4v4 formats of play and training volume, with the only difference being that one group performed ball possession games while the other participated in games targeting to score in the basket. Players were evaluated twice: once at baseline in the week prior to the intervention period, and again in the week post-intervention. The neuromuscular tests were conducted using force platforms. Significant interactions between time and groups were observed in KES (p < 0.001; η p 2 = 0.902), KFS (p < 0.001; η p 2 = 0.880), and CMJ peak power (p < 0.001; η p 2 = 0.630). Significant differences between groups were found post-intervention for the variables of KES (p = 0.017; η p 2 = 0.159), KFS (p = 0.011; η p 2 = 0.174), CMJ peak power (p = 0.017; η p 2 = 0.160), CMJ peak landing force (p = 0.020; η p 2 = 0.154), and LHT peak power (p = 0.012; η p 2 = 0.171). In conclusion, our study highlights that the SSGbk significantly increases neuromuscular adaptations in young male basketball players. Conversely, our findings do not support the efficacy of SSGbpg in targeting these specific physical fitness variables. Therefore, the use of SSGs must be carefully considered, particularly in selecting task conditions, to ensure efficacy in interventions.

Extracellular vesicles in wound healing have become an active research field with substantial value and potential. Nevertheless, there are few bibliometric studies in this field. We aimed to visualise the research hot spots and trends of extracellular vesicles in wound healing using a bibliometric analysis to help understand the future development of basic and clinical research. The articles and reviews regarding extracellular vesicles in the wound healing were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewers, CiteSpace and R package "bibliometric" were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. A total of 1225 articles from 56 countries led by China and the United States were included. The number of publications related to extracellular vesicles increased year by year. Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University and Central South University are the main research institutions. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is the most popular journal in this field, while Stem Cell Research & Therapy is the most frequently cited journal. These papers come from 7546 authors, among which Zhang Wei has published the most papers and Zhang Bin has the most cocited papers. The research on the treatment strategy of extracellular vesicles in the process of wound healing is the main topic in this field. "exosomes", "miRNA", "angiogenesis", "regenerative medicine", "inflammation" and "diabetic wound" are the main key words of emerging research hotspots. This is the first bibliometric study, which comprehensively summarises the research trend and development of extracellular vesicles and exocrine bodies in wound healing. These informations determine the latest research frontiers and hot directions, and provide reference for the study of extracellular vesicles and exosomes.

Vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) is a noninvasive adjunctive therapy to help patients with diabetic foot ulcers by reducing edema and promoting wound healing and formation of granulation tissue. Multiple databases were searched for relevant studies, and full-text articles comparing VSD and conventional therapy were reviewed. Meta-analyses were conducted with Review Manager 5.0 software to estimate the results of the selected articles. Forest plots, sensitivity analysis, and bias analysis were also performed on the included articles. In total, 10 studies satisfied the inclusion criteria and were selected in this study. The meta-analysis suggested that the duration of therapy, decrease of wound size, and efficacy rate showed statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (mean difference = -12.86; 95% confidence interval [CI] -12.86 to -8.52; p < .00001; mean difference = 8.71; 95% CI 3.25 to 14.17; p = .002; relative risk = 1.41; 95% CI 1.22 to 1.62; p < .00001, respectively) although the complication rate between the 2 groups was comparable (relative risk = 0.83; 95% CI 0.60 to 1.16; p = .28). Publication bias was not assessed because only a few articles were included. In conclusion, VSD is a more effective therapy and is associated with a greater decrease in wound size and shorter time to wound healing, compared to the conventional method.

To assess the efficacy and safety of endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) and high ligation (HL) for limb varicosity using meta-analysis. Multiple databases including PubMed, Springer, Excerpta Medica Database, Ovid Technologies, and China Journal Full-text database were searched for relevant studies in English or Chinese, and full-text articles were used to compare EVLT and HL for limb varicosity. Review Manager 5.0 was used to estimate the effects of the results among eligible articles. Forest plots, sensitivity analysis, and bias analysis of the included articles were also conducted. Initial screening yielded 1031 studies, 11 randomised controlled trials involving 1145 limb varicosity patients met the inclusion criteria in this study. The results of the heterogeneity test suggested that intraoperative blood loss mean difference (MD) = -6.31[-9.03, -3.60], P < 0.00001), operative time (MD) = -39.76[-42.27, -37.24], P < 0.00001), rate of complications (odds ratio [OR] = 0.37[0.22, 0.61], P < 0.0001), and recurrence (OR = 0.28[0.16, 0.49], P < 0.0001) were significantly different. Although both EVLT and HL have their own merits and demerits, EVLT is a more effective and safe method to treat limb varicosity.

In today's energy landscape, the rise of energy crises spurred by rapid industrial expansion demands the development of advanced energy storage systems, especially those leveraging renewable sources independently. Pseudocapacitors, renowned for their high specific capacitance (C s), offer a promising solution. Among them, transition metal nitride-based oxides stand out because of their remarkable conductivity and storage capacity, making them ideal candidates for supercapacitor (SC) cathode materials. In a recent study, we employed a wet-chemical method to synthesize a TiN-ZnO composite, showing potential as an electrode material for supercapacitor systems. The resulting composite exhibited promising crystallinity, indicating its suitability for electrode applications. Impressively, the TiN-ZnO electrode demonstrated a specific capacitance (C s) of 469 F g-1 during electrochemical testing. Additionally, it showcased a high energy density (E d) of 19.83 W h kg-1 and a power density (P d) of 6298.2 W kg-1. Moreover, it displayed exceptional cycling stability, retaining 95% of its performance over 7500 cycles. With superior electrochemical properties compared to pure materials, the fabricated TiN-ZnO electrode holds significant promise for supercapacitors and other energy-related technologies. This advancement presents a compelling solution to the urgent need for efficient and sustainable energy storage in the modern era.

INTRODUCTION: Rheumatoid vasculitis (RV) is a frequently encountered complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), wherein skin vasculitis lesions are observed as a common clinical manifestation, encompassing skin purpura, erythema, vascular occlusion, ulcers, and gangrene. As a matter of fact, it marks the most severe extra-articular manifestation of RA. And the resultant ulcers tend to pose a greater challenge with regard to therapeutic interventions. We report a case of RV complicated by refractory foot ulcer that was successfully treated with puncture. CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old man with RV caused by RA developed refractory foot ulcers. Despite the application of topical antibiotics, the wound gradually expanded and remained unhealed for 7 months. Consequently, the patient sought an integrated therapeutic approach involving Traditional Chinese Medicine and was subsequently treated with acupuncture. After 12 weeks of acupuncture, the foot ulcers healed completely. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture has the potential to facilitate wound healing and may serve as a viable alternative treatment modality for wounds unresponsive to traditional therapeutic interventions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) on the proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of normal human gastric mucosal cells and gastric cancer cells. METHODS: Poorly differentiated gastric cancer BGC823 cells, moderately differentiated gastric cancer cells and normal human gastric mucosal epithelial GES-1 cells were independently treated with recombinant human BMP-2 or its inhibitor Noggin. MTT assay was performed to detect the proliferation, flow cytometry done to measure the cell cycle and apoptosis and immunohistochemistry carried out to determine the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4). RESULTS: BMP-2 exerted inhibitory effect on the growth of all types of cells and the inhibition become more evident with the increase of BMP-2 dose. After treatment with 200 ng/ml BMP-2, cancer cells arrested in G1 phase and those in S phase reduced. Gastric cancer cells had higher CDK4 expression than GES-1 cells. BMP-2 decreased CDK-4 expression in cancer cells but had no influence in GES-1 cells. Noggin conferred promotive effect on the growth of 3 types of cells. In 2 types of cancer cells, treatment with 2000 ng/ml Noggin significantly increased the proportion of cells in S phase but reduced that in G1 phase. However, Noggin did not affect the cell cycle of GES-1 cells. The CDK4 expression was markedly increased in 2 types of cancer cells but that of GES-1 remained unchanged after treatment with 2000 ng/ml Noggin. CONCLUSIONS: BMP-2 may inhibit the proliferation of both normal and malignant gastric epithelial cells, down-regulate CDK4 expression in gastric cancer cells and arrest gastric cancer cells in G1-phase in cell cycle. Through antagonizing BMP-2, Noggin, may accelerate the proliferation of gastric cancer cells. Thus, the abnormality of BMP signaling pathway may play an important role in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer.

Metastatic and invasive potential is a barrier to the successful treatment of gastric cancer. N-acetylgluco-saminyltransferase V (GnT-V), a key enzyme catalyzing the formation of 1,6 N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc), has been demonstrated to display a distinct function in different types of tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of GnT-V in the invasive potential of BGC823 human gastric cancer cells in vitro and the possible underlying mechanism. GnT-V was downregulated in BGC823 cells by oligo-siRNA transfection. Cell proliferation and invasiveness were assessed by CCK-8 assay, Tunel assay, scratch-wound assay as well as transwell assay. The products of GnT-V, ß1-6 branching of asparagine-linked oligosaccharides, were determined by L-PHA lectin blot analysis. The expression of EGFRs, E-cadherin/vimentin and MMP-2/MMP-9 was analyzed both at the mRNA and protein levels. The results showed that downregulation of GnT-V decreased proliferation and the metastatic/invasive potential of BGC823 cells. The expression of EGFRs, E-cadherin/vimentin and MMP-9, molecules related to cancer metastasis and invasion in various tumors, were influenced correspondingly. These findings suggest that downregulation of GnT-V inhibited cell metastasis and invasion of BGC823 cells via EGFR signaling-initiated EMT phenotype and MMP-9 expression. These results provide a novel mechanism to explain the role of GnT-V in cell metastasis and invasion.

Trefoil Factor Family (TFF) plays an essential role in the intestinal epithelial restitution, but the relationship between TFF1 and gastric cancer (GC) is still unclear. The present study aimed to determine the role of TFF1 in repairing gastric mucosa and in the pathogenesis of GC. The TFF1 expression in different gastric mucosas was measured with immunohistochemistry. Then, siRNA targeting TFF1 or plasmids expressing TFF1 gene were transfected into BGC823 cells, SGC7901 cells and GES-1 cells. The cell proliferation was detected with MTT assay and apoptosis and cell cycle measured by flow cytometry. From normal gastric mucosa to mucosa with dysplasia and to gastric cancer, the TFF1 expression had a decreasing trend. Down-regulation of TFF1 expression significantly reduced the apoptosis of three cell lines and markedly facilitated their proliferation but had no significant effect on cell cycle. Over-expression of TFF1 could promote apoptosis of three cell lines and inhibit proliferation but had no pronounced effect on cell cycle. TFF1 can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis of GC cells in vitro.
