RESUMO

Transvaginal oocyte retrieval is a crucial step in assisted reproductive technology. Various complications may arise during this procedure. Ureteral injury is a rare, but a serious complication in gynecological practice. During oocyte retrieval, ureteral injuries, detachment and obstruction can be seen, though rare. In this study, we will present ureteral obstruction that develops secondary to small hematoma, which mimics ovarian cyst torsion or ruptured ovarian cyst.

RESUMO

This paper presents the use of the single-step micropercutaneous nephrolithotomy (microperc) procedure for the treatment of a 13-mm renal stone using a 4.85-Fr 'all-seeing needle' in a 2-year-old toddler. In the current literature to date, this is the youngest case. Moreover, the advantages and reliability of this technique in toddler renal stone treatment are also evaluated.

RESUMO

Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a common and serious health problem affecting the quality of life in men. Limited studies exist on the relation of this condition to premature ejaculation. We evaluated prevalence rates of premature ejaculation in Turkish male patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome and compared them with healthy control subjects. Sixty-six men with chronic pelvic pain syndrome were included in the study (group 1). A questionnaire consisting of 2 parts--demographic data and a Turkish version of the National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom index--was administered to all patients. Premature ejaculation was defined as intravaginal ejaculation latency of less than 2 minutes with the same partner for at least 6 months. All patients were evaluated with physical examinations and routine laboratory tests. If erectile dysfunction was noted from the medical history, penile Doppler ultrasonography also was performed. The results were compared with the results of 30 healthy men without urinary symptoms (group 2). The chi2 test was used for statistical analyses. Of 66 patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome, 51 had premature ejaculation (77.3%), and in 10 (15.2%) patients, premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction were found together. Penile Doppler ultrasonography showed no vascular pathology in patients with erectile dysfunction. The rate of premature ejaculation was higher in patients in the study group than it was in patients in the control group, and this difference was statistically significant (P < .05). Both chronic pelvic pain syndrome and premature ejaculation are common disorders, but their ethiopathogeneses are not well understood. In Turkish men with chronic pelvic pain syndrome, the incidence of psychogenic sexual problems was higher than in the normal population.

RESUMO

We compared chromosome 8 and 11 aneuploidies on bladder biopsy tumor tissues and bladder washing samples of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and their relationship to tumor malignancy. Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was applied to nuclei of washing material and biopsy samples of 17 patients with TCC. Incidence of cells having aneuploidy was clearly nonrandom from patient to patient. There was no significant difference in the incidence of aneuploid frequency for chromosomes 8 and 11 between biopsies of bladder tumors and bladder washing samples (P > 0.05). For chromosome 8, incidence of disomic cells (having two signals) in grade III tumors was significantly lower than in grade II tumors of both washing samples (P = 0.004) and biopsy materials (P = 0.005), indicating a high frequency of aneuploidy. The incidence of nuclei with four or more than four signals of chromosome 8 was significantly higher in grade III tumors than in grade II tumors in washing samples (P = 0.031 and 0.003, respectively). Similarly, in biopsy material, the incidence of nuclei with more than four signals of chromosome 8 was significantly higher in grade III tumors than in grade II tumors (P = 0.004). For chromosome 11, in both washing samples and biopsy materials, the incidence of disomic cells (having two signals) in grade III tumors was significantly lower than that detected in grade II tumors (P = 0.031 and 0.014, respectively), indicating a high frequency of aneuploidy. In biopsy materials, the incidence of nuclei with three or four signals was significantly higher than that in grade II tumors (P = 0.014 and 0.012, respectively). These findings suggest that FISH analysis of bladder washing samples can be effectively detected as genetic changes of bladder tumors. It might predict genetic progression of these tumors, which might be related to tumor stage, because higher stages of tumors showed a higher incidence of aneuploidies of chromosomes 8 and 11.

RESUMO

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) limited to penis is rare and usually observed in AIDS patients. However, in circumcised and HIV-seronegative patients, KS confined to the penis is extremely rare. We present the case of an HIV-seronegative and circumcised 55-year-old man, who presented with two reddish papules, one 5 mm in diameter on the coronal sulcus near the frenulum, and the other 2 mm in diameter on the glans penis, which were reported as a Kaposi's sarcoma after excision of the lesion.
