RESUMO
Insomnia displays heterogeneous trajectories across adolescence, which may induce addictive behaviours, including internet gaming disorder and substance use. This study aimed to investigate the latent trajectory classes of insomnia symptoms over 2 years and to examine the associations between insomnia trajectories and these addictive behaviours. Participants were 910 adolescents from six middle schools in Shanghai, China (52.7% males; mean age = 13.17 years). The three-wave survey measured insomnia symptoms, internet gaming disorder, substance use, depressive symptoms, and sociodemographic characteristics from 7th to 9th grade. Latent class growth modelling was performed to identify the latent trajectory classes of insomnia symptoms. Then multivariable logistic regressions were conducted within the best-fitting latent class growth model to examine the associations of insomnia trajectories with internet gaming disorder and substance use. Two latent trajectory classes of insomnia symptoms were recognised: the non-insomnia group (71.8%) and the insomnia group (28.2%). In the multivariable analysis controlling for baseline demographic variables and depressive symptoms, the insomnia group had a higher risk of developing internet gaming disorder (OR = 2.203 [95% CI: 1.258-3.858]) and substance use (OR = 2.215 [95% CI: 1.324-3.705]) compared with the non-insomnia group. These findings add to a growing body of research on heterogeneous trajectories of insomnia symptoms during adolescence, suggesting that intervention strategies are needed to target the characteristics or developmental patterns of different insomnia subgroups. The ultimate goal is to mitigate the impact of insomnia symptoms on adolescent addictive behaviours.

OBJECTIVES: This study explores whether feelings of defeat (i.e., a sense of failed struggle and losing rank; referred to as defeat for simplicity) mediated the effect of work stress on depression/anxiety, the effect of interpersonal needs on depression/anxiety for Chinese industrial workers, and the possible moderating role of social support. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenzhen, China in 2019, in total, 2023 industrial workers (of 2700 invited; response rate = 75%) completed a self-administered survey consisted of Job Stress Scale, Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire, Defeat Scale, Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale, two face-valid questions for social support, as well as sociodemographic information. Moderated mediation model was tested and loop plots were applied to probe into the conditional effects of work and interpersonal stress on depression and anxiety symptoms. RESULT: Both the direct and indirect effect of work stress on depression and anxiety through defeat were significant (Work stressâ Depression: B = 0.035, p < .001, Work stressâ Defeatâ Depression: B = 0.034, p < .001; Work stressâ Anxiety: B = 0.038, p < .001, Work stressâ Defeatâ Anxiety: B = 0.045, p < .001). Meanwhile, defeat mediated the relationship of interpersonal needs with depression partially and the relationship of interpersonal needs with anxiety totally (Interpersonal needsâ Anxiety: B = 0.133, p < .001, Interpersonal needsâ Defeatâ Anxiety: B = 0.010, p = .537). Social support moderated the indirect path between interpersonal needs and depression/anxiety and buffered the effect. CONCLUSION: The mediating role of defeat and the moderator role of social support in the relationship between stress and depression/anxiety were confirmed in industrial workers. Workers who reported more work and interpersonal stress would report more defeat feelings, and then exhibited more depression and anxiety symptoms; this mediation effect was stronger for those who had lower social support, respectively.

Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS) (OMIM 194190) is a contiguous gene syndrome with an estimated prevalence of around 1 in 50,000 births. The syndrome is caused by the deletion of a critical region (Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Critical region-WHSCR) on chromosome 4p16.3. Its core features are typical facial gestalt, growth retardation, intellectual disability, developmental delay, and seizures. Prenatal diagnosis of WHS helps clinicians and parents make informed decisions about pregnancy management. In this research, a 31-year-old woman (gravida 1, para 0) underwent amniocentesis at 18 weeks gestation because of the short nasal bone of the fetus on prenatal ultrasound. Chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) on uncultured amniocytes revealed a de novo 11.36-Mb deletion on chromosome 4p16.3p15.33, spanning from position 40 000 to 11 400 000 (hg19). After genetic counselling and being informed of the unfavorable prognosis, the parents decided to terminate the pregnancy. We provide a detailed description of a de novo 11.36-Mb deletion on chromosome 4p16.3p15.33 (Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome). CMA has more advantages than karyotype analysis in detecting chromosomal microdeletions/microduplications. A combination of karyotype analysis, CMA, prenatal ultrasound, and genetic counseling is helpful for the prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal deletions/duplications.

Background: Lu Yu (733-804 AD, Tang Dynasty) was an orphan raised and educated in a monastery. His profound knowledge of tea earned him the title "the Sage of Tea." This paper explores the possibility that Lu Yu may have been a patient of inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs), particularly phenylketonuria (PKU), considering historical records and unique aspects of his life. Case Presentation: Examining Lu Yu's orphaned upbringing, clinical manifestations noted in his autobiography, dietary preferences, and the significance of his name, this study postulates that he may have had IMDs, notably PKU. His life choices, such as abstaining from meat and fish and favoring a low-protein diet during his time in a monastery, align with practices recommended for managing IMDs. The linguistic associations of his name further reinforce this hypothesis. Conclusions: This investigation sheds light on the intriguing possibility that Lu Yu may have been affected by IMDs, notably PKU. By considering historical context, clinical correlations, dietary choices, and name symbolism, we offer a unique historical perspective on this celebrated figure's health. Further research could provide valuable insights into both his life and the broader medical practices of the Tang Dynasty.
RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: Suboptimal adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) dramatically hampers the achievement of the UNAIDS HIV treatment targets. This study aimed to develop a theory-informed predictive model for ART adherence based on data from Chinese. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenzhen, China, in December 2020. Participants were recruited through snowball sampling, completing a survey that included sociodemographic characteristics, HIV clinical information, Information-Motivation-Behavioural Skills (IMB) constructs and adherence to ART. CD4 counts and HIV viral load were extracted from medical records. A model to predict ART adherence was developed from a multivariable logistic regression with significant predictors selected by Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression. To evaluate the performance of the model, we tested the discriminatory capacity using the concordance index (C-index) and calibration accuracy using the Hosmer and Lemeshow test. RESULTS: The average age of the 651 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the training group was 34.1±8.4 years, with 20.1% reporting suboptimal adherence. The mean age of the 276 PLHIV in the validation group was 33.9±8.2 years, and the prevalence of poor adherence was 22.1%. The suboptimal adherence model incorporates five predictors: education level, alcohol use, side effects, objective abilities and self-efficacy. Constructed by those predictors, the model showed a C-index of 0.739 (95% CI 0.703 to 0.772) in internal validation, which was confirmed be 0.717 via bootstrapping validation and remained modest in temporal validation (C-index 0.676). The calibration capacity was acceptable both in the training and in the validation groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our model accurately estimates ART adherence behaviours. The prediction tool can help identify individuals at greater risk for poor adherence and guide tailored interventions to optimise adherence.

Transgender women (TGW) worldwide report disproportionate violence victimization, depression and condomless anal intercourse (CAI), but the mechanism of the coexistence remains unclear. Using snowball sampling, we recruited 198 self-identified TGW in Shenyang, China between April 2017 and July 2017, and conducted confidential questionnaire survey among them. Positive HIV status was reported by 49 (24.7%) participants. 117 (59.1%) reported at least one type of lifetime violence victimization, with transactional sexual partners being the main violence perpetrators. 108 (54.5%) reported mild to severe depression. 105 (53.0%) reported having CAI with their sexual partners during the last 6 months. Path analysis showed that the association between participants' violence victimization and CAI was fully mediated by their depression (indirect effect: 0.083, p = 0.014; direct effect: 0.137, p = 0.121). We suggest to incorporate violence screening and prevention and mental health services into intervention strategies to prevent CAI among Chinese TGW.

BACKGROUND: Perception of entrapment can emerge when someone feels trapped in an aversive situation and incapable of escape. Depression is closely related to the construct of entrapment. In China, men who have sex with men (MSM) have a high prevalence of depression; therefore, a tool to evaluate entrapment in this population is needed. We evaluated the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the entrapment scale (ES) and the relationship to depression among MSM in Shanghai, China. METHODS: We recruited 304 MSM from four districts in Shanghai, China. Participants completed health behavior questionnaires that included baseline information and psychological measurements such as the ES and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). The sample was randomly divided into two groups for exploratory factor analysis (n = 143) and confirmatory factor analysis (n = 161). Criterion validity was tested to explore the correlation between the ES and PHQ-9 scores. The reliability of the ES was evaluated with internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's α coefficient) and split-half reliability (Spearman-Brown coefficient). We performed hierarchical regression analysis to determine the variance explained of entrapment to predicting depressive symptoms after adjusting for sociodemographic factors. Finally, receiver operator characteristic curve analysis was performed to measure the optimal ES cut-off value for predicting depression. RESULTS: Factor analysis showed the ES had one principal component, and one-dimensional scale had more acceptable model fit indices than two-dimensional model. The correlation coefficient between the ES and PHQ-9 scores was 0.756 (P < 0.01). The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.970 and the Spearman-Brown coefficient was 0.976. ES scores significantly predicted an additional 45.1% of depressive symptoms after controlling for sociodemographic characteristics in the MSM population (ß = 0.689, P < 0.001). The optimum cut-off value was 23, which had a sensitivity of 70% and a specificity of 85.4%. CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the ES has good validity and reliability in the MSM population in Shanghai, and can be used to evaluate perception of entrapment among MSM. The findings confirmed an association between entrapment and depression.

INTRODUCTION: Internet gaming disorder (IGD) was popular among adolescents worldwide, but whether some associated factors could contribute to the development of IGD was unclear. This longitudinal study explored the temporal stability of IGD over one year and determined the predictors for IGD incidence. METHODS: Participants were 1121 adolescents from six junior high schools in Shanghai, China (50.6% males; median age = 13.0 years). The baseline and follow-up questionnaire survey measured IGD, time spent on gaming, depressive symptoms, insomnia condition, substance use and background variables from 7th to 8th grade. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to test the associations between other factors and IGD incidence. RESULTS: IGD incidence was 7.7% at one-year follow-up. Gender, family financial condition, parental educational level, time spent on gaming, insomnia condition and depressive symptoms were associated with IGD incidence in univariate analysis, whereas only gender, family financial condition, time spent on gaming and depressive symptoms were associated with IGD incidence in multivariate logistic regression. CONCLUSIONS: IGD might persist for years during adolescence. After controlling for sociodemographic factors, time spent on gaming and depressive symptoms were independent predictors for IGD incidence.

BACKGROUND: A prolonged exposure to ketamine triggers significant neurodegeneration and long-term neurocognitive deficits in the developing brain. Monosialotetrahexosylganglioside (GM1) can limit the neuronal damage from necrosis and apoptosis in neurodegenerative conditions. We aimed to assess whether GM1 can prevent ketamine-induced developmental neurotoxicity. METHODS: Postnatal day 7 (P7) rat pups received 5 doses of intraperitoneal ketamine (20 mg/kg per dose) at 90-minute intervals for 6 hours. Cognitive functions, determined by using Morris water maze (MWM) including escape latency (at P32-36) and platform crossing (at P37), were compared among the ketamine-exposed pups treated with or without exogenous GM1 (30 mg/kg; n = 12/group). The effect of GM1 on apoptosis in hippocampus was determined by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated 2'-deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and activated caspase 3 measurement. The hippocampal expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), along with the phosphorylation of protein kinase B (AKT) and extracellular signal-related kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2), was detected by western blotting (n = 6/group). Anti-BDNF antibody (2 µg per rat) administered before GM1 treatment was applied to determine the neuroprotective mechanisms of GM1. RESULTS: The rats receiving ketamine exposure experinced cognitive impairment in MWM test compared to the control rats, indicated by prolonged escape latency at P34 (P = .006), P35 (P = .002), and P36 (P = .005). However, in GM1-pretreated rats, ketamine exposure did not induce prolonged escape latency. The exogenous GM1 increased the platform-crossing times at P37 (3.00 ± 2.22 times vs 5.40 ± 1.53 times, mean ± standard deviation; P = .041) and reduced the hippocampal TUNEL-positive cells and cleaved-caspase 3 expression in ketamine-exposed young rats. Ketamine decreased BDNF expression and phosphorylation of AKT and ERK in the hippocampus, whereas exogenous GM1 blocked these ketamine-caused effects. However, for the ketamine-exposed rat pups receiving exogenous GM1, compared to immunoglobulin Y (IgY) isotype control, the BDNF-neutralizing antibody treatment counteracted the exogenous GM1-induced improvement of the escape latency at P36 (41.32 ± 12.37 seconds vs 25.14 ± 8.97 seconds, mean ± standard deviation; P = .036), platform-crossing times at P37 (2.16 ± 1.12 times vs 3.92 ± 1.97 times, mean ± standard deviation; P < .036), apoptotic activity, as well as AKT and ERK1/2 phosphorylation in the hippocampus of ketamine-challenged young rats. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that the exogenous GM1 acts on BDNF signaling pathway to ameliorate the cognitive impairment and hippocampal apoptosis induced by ketamine in young rats. Our study may indicate a potential use of GM1 in preventing the cognitive deficits induced by ketamine in the young per se.

BACKGROUND: High prevalence and strong relationships among suicidal ideation, Internet gaming disorder (IGD), insomnia, and depression have been reported for adolescents worldwide, but the mechanism underlying these psychological problems remains unclear. This cross-sectional study explored the mediating effect of insomnia and depression on the association between IGD and suicidal ideation. METHODS: Participants were 1066 adolescents (median age = 13.0 years) with Internet games exposure in the previous 12 months from junior high schools in Shanghai, China. Questionnaire measures of suicidal ideation, IGD, insomnia, depressive symptoms, and background characteristics were obtained. Path analysis was conducted to test the multiple mediating roles of insomnia and depression. RESULTS: Suicidal ideation, IGD, insomnia, and depression prevalence was 27.2, 13.6, 9.2, and 17.0%, respectively. A serial multiple mediation model was generated. The mediation effect of insomnia and depression on the pathway from IGD to suicidal ideation was 45.5% (direct effect: standardized estimate [Std. estimate] = 0.186; total indirect effect: Std. estimate = 0.155). The association between IGD and depression was partially mediated by insomnia (direct effect: Std. estimate = 0.211; indirect effect: Std. estimate = 0.135). The proposed model fit the data well. CONCLUSIONS: Insomnia and depression may serially mediate the association between IGD and suicidal ideation. IGD was positively associated with insomnia, then with depression, which in turn positively contributed to suicidal ideation. We suggest greater monitoring of Internet use and prevention of insomnia and depression to mitigate the risk of suicidal ideation among Chinese adolescents.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of osteoporosis (OP) is rapidly increasing. Healthy behaviors are crucial for the management of OP. Application of the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model has been verified in various chronic diseases, but this model has not been investigated for behavioral interventions among people with OP. This study aimed to examine factors influencing OP self-management behavior and their interaction paths based on the IMB model. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study using a convenience sampling method in 20 community health service centers in Shanghai, China. Predictive relationships between IMB model variables and self-management behaviors were evaluated using an anonymous questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was used to test the IMB model. RESULTS: In total, 571 participants completed the questionnaire, of which 461 (80.7%) were female. Participants' mean age was 68.8 ± 10.1 years. Only 101 (17.7%) participants were classified as having better OP self-management behaviors. The model demonstrated the data had an acceptable fit. Paths from information to self-efficacy (ß = 0.156, P < 0.001) and self-management behaviors (ß = 0.236, P < 0.001), from health beliefs to self-efficacy (ß = 0.266, P < 0.001), from medical system support to self-efficacy (ß = 0.326, P < 0.001) and self-management behaviors (ß = 0.230, P < 0.001), and from self-efficacy to self-management behaviors (ß = 0.376, P < 0.001) were all significant and in the predicted direction. CONCLUSION: This study validated the utility of the IMB model for OP self-management behaviors in this population. Middle-aged and older adult patients with OP have poor self-management behaviors. Enhanced knowledge about OP and is important for improving self-management behaviors.

BACKGROUND: The Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model has received consistent empirical support in the context of HIV prevention among various key populations, but not yet among transgender women (TGW). None effective interventions has been carried out among TGW so far to control their high prevalence of unprotected anal intercourse. The intent of the current study is to examine the application of the IMB model to clarifying the association between condom use correlates and condom use frequency among TGW in China. METHODS: Using snowball sampling, we recruited 198 self-identified TGW in Shenyang, China from April 2017 to July 2017. Participants were required to complete a questionnaire assessing their background characteristics and IMB model constructs. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to demonstrate the utility of the IMB model. RESULTS: The consistent condom use (CCU) rate was 47.0%. Results of SEM indicated that HIV-preventive motivation (comprising condom use attitude and subjective norms; ß = 0.823, P < 0.001) and behavioral skills (including condom use skills and self-efficacy; ß = 0.979, P = 0.004) were related to more frequent condom use, whereas HIV knowledge was unrelated to condom use (ß = 0.052, P = 0.540). CONCLUSIONS: The low CCU rate suggested that TGW in China were at high risk of HIV infection and transmission and a key intervention population. HIV-preventive interventions for this population should focus on enhancing motivation and strengthening behavioral skills to increase condom use frequency and reduce HIV infection.

Background Research on substance use among transgender female sex workers in China is scarce. The aims of this study were to examine: (1) the prevalence of alcohol or illicit drug use before commercial sex among this population; and (2) correlates of alcohol and illicit drug use. METHODS: Complete survey data were analysed from 397 transgender female sex workers recruited from three of the largest cities in China: Shenyang, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Information was collected about demographics, alcohol or illicit drug use, alone or in combination, and their psychosocial correlates using structured questionnaires. Multinomial logistic regression models were used to examine the association between substance use and its correlates. RESULTS: Before commercial sex, approximately one-third of the sample reported exclusive alcohol use (28.5%), 9.3% reported exclusive drug use and 7.3% reported combined use of alcohol and drugs. Before commercial sex, participants with low self-esteem had twice the odds of using alcohol exclusively (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 2.05; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01-4.17), those with higher levels of loneliness had almost threefold the odds of exclusive drug use (aOR 2.92; 95% CI 1.21-7.07) and those with depression (aOR 2.97; 95% CI 1.11-7.96) and unknown HIV status (aOR 3.00; 95% CI 1.02-8.87) had threefold the odds of combined use of alcohol and drugs. CONCLUSION: Programs aimed at reducing alcohol or drug use among transgender female sex workers in China may consider adding components that help support mental health and encouraging HIV screening.

BACKGROUND: In China, young migrants are at elevated risk of mental health problems, such as depression. The influence of self-esteem on depression is well acknowledged. We examined correlates of depression and their mediating and moderating role in the association between self-esteem and depression to promote a better understanding of depression prevention among young migrants. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study among young Chinese migrants. A moderated mediation model was used to test the combined effect of involuntary subordination and social support on the association between self-esteem and depression. The Johnson-Neyman method was used to identify the range of scores for which social support acted as a moderator. RESULTS: A total of 572 participants completed questionnaires. The median depression score was 19 (interquartile range: 14). Self-esteem had a negative effect on involuntary subordination (ß = - 2.1440, p < 0.001). Involuntary subordination (ß = 0.2406, p < 0.001), self-esteem (ß = - 0.3870, p < 0.01), and social support (ß = - 0.1221, p < 0.01) all had significant effects on depression. The effect of involuntary subordination on depression was moderated by social support (ß = - 0.0041, p < 0.05), and the effect decreased as social support scores increased. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated a mediating role of involuntary subordination and a moderating role of social support in the association between self-esteem and depression among young Chinese migrants. Future intervention strategies should focus on these factors to reduce depressive symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Transgender women have a high prevalence of suicidal ideation, with stress and low interpersonal needs as its main risk factors. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of interpersonal needs on the relationship between perceived stress and suicidal ideation among transgender women in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenyang and Kunming from April to September 2018. 247 transgender women were recruited. Sociodemographic statistics, perceived stress, interpersonal needs and suicidal ideation were obtained. Correlation analysis and mediation analysis were performed to test the relationship among perceived stress, suicidal ideation and interpersonal needs. RESULTS: 14.6 % of the participants reported suicidal ideation within a year. Perceived stress was positively correlated with suicidal ideation (r = 0.228, p < 0.001), interpersonal needs and its three dimensions (r = 0.300-0.583, ps < 0.001)-thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness and social exclusion. Interpersonal needs and its three dimensions were also positively correlated with suicidal ideation (r = 0.148-0.299, ps < 0.05). Interpersonal needs, perceived burdensomeness and social exclusion partly mediated the relationship between perceived stress and suicidal ideation, while thwarted belongingness didn't play a mediating role. LIMITATIONS: Cross-sectional study limited confirmation of causality between variables. The investigation didn't aim at the specific stressors of sexual minorities. And that participants came from only two regions might affect the generalization of the results. CONCLUSIONS: We found a partial mediating role of interpersonal needs between stress and suicidal ideation. Stress reduction and increased social inclusion are needed to reduce suicidal ideation in transgender women.

Purpose: Although transgender women (TGW) bear the highest HIV burden worldwide, routine surveillance of this group is rare. We aimed to evaluate the trends in health characteristics of Chinese TGW. Methods: Three cross-sectional studies using snowball sampling were conducted in 2014, 2017, and 2019, primarily in Shenyang, China. A questionnaire and voluntary HIV testing were used to obtain information on background characteristics, sexual behaviors, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) willingness, and HIV status. Results: There were 220 respondents in 2014, 198 in 2017, and 247 in 2019 (average age 31.1±7.6 to 33.5±9.6 years). HIV prevalence significantly decreased from 29.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 25.3-38.4%) in 2014 to 19.4% (95% CI: 14.7-24.9%) in 2019 (p<0.05). The proportion of participants reporting condomless anal intercourse (CAI) with any partner fluctuated from 30.8% (95% CI: 25.1-36.1%) to 53.0% (95% CI: 45.8-60.1%). The proportion of participants willing to use PrEP decreased from 86.4% (95% CI: 81.1-90.6%) in 2014 to 62.8% (95% CI: 56.4-68.8%) in 2019. Factors significantly associated with HIV infection were CAI with any partner (multivariate odds ratio [ORm]: 3.58, 95% CI: 1.55-8.29 in 2017; ORm: 3.18, 95% CI: 1.56-6.46 in 2019) and PrEP willingness (ORm: 0.26, 95% CI: 0.12-0.58 in 2017). Conclusion: HIV prevalence and associated risk factors remain substantial among Chinese TGW. There is an urgent need to strengthen HIV surveillance in this population, and develop trans-friendly and effective interventions to minimize HIV prevalence and transmission.
RESUMO
Introduction: Neuropathic pain (NP) conditions arising from injuries to the nervous system due to trauma, disease, or neurotoxins are chronic, severe, debilitating, and exceedingly difficult to treat. However, the mechanisms of NP are not yet clear. Here we explored the role of Dock4, an atypical Rac1 GEF, in the development of NP. Methods: Mechanical allodynia was assessed as paw withdrawal threshold by a dynamic plantar aesthesiometer. Immunofluorescence staining was conducted to investigate the expression and localization of Dock4, Rac1 and GluN2B. Quantitative analysis of Dock4, Rac1 and GluN2B were determined by qRT-PCR and Western blot assay. Spontaneous excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents in spinal cord slices were examined using whole cell patch clam. Dendritic spine remodeling and synaptogenesis were detected in cultured dorsal spinal neurons. Results and discussion: We found that SNL caused markedly mechanical allodynia accompanied by increase of Dock4, GTP-Rac1and GluN2B, which was prevented by knockdown of Dock4. Electrophysiological tests showed that SNL facilitated excitatory synaptic transmission, however, this was also inhibited by Dock RNAi-LV. Moreover, knockdown of Dock4 prevented dendritic growth and synaptogenesis. Conclusion: In summary, our data indicated that Dock4 facilitated excitatory synaptic transmission by promoting the expression of GluN2B at the synaptic site and synaptogenesis, leading to the occurrence of NP.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: COVID-19 carriers experience psychological stresses and mental health issues such as varying degrees of stigma. The Social Impact Scale (SIS) can be used to measure the stigmatisation of COVID-19 carriers who experience such problems. AIMS: To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the SIS, and the association between stigma and depression among asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers in Shanghai, China. METHOD: A total of 1283 asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers from Shanghai Ruijin Jiahe Fangcang Shelter Hospital were recruited, with a mean age of 39.64 ± 11.14 years (59.6% male). Participants completed questionnaires, including baseline information and psychological measurements, the SIS and Self-Rating Depression Scale. The psychometrics of the SIS and its association with depression were examined through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and receiver operating characteristic analysis. RESULTS: The average participant SIS score was 42.66 ± 14.61 (range: 24-96) years. Analyses suggested the model had four factors: social rejection, financial insecurity, internalised shame and social isolation. The model fit statistics of the four-factor SIS were 0.913 for the comparative fit index, 0.902 for the Tucker-Lewis index and 0.088 for root-mean-square error of approximation. Standard estimated factor loadings ranged from 0.509 to 0.836. After controlling for demographic characteristics, the total score of the 23-item SIS predicted depression (odds ratio: 1.087, 95% CI 1.061-1.115; area under the curve: 0.84, 95% CI 0.788-0.892). CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the SIS showed good psychometric properties and can be used to assess the level of perceived stigma experienced by asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers.
RESUMO
Purpose: Drug use is quite common in transgender women, but the mechanisms of the drug use remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of loneliness in perceived stress and the drug use among transgender women. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from April to September 2018 in Shenyang and Kunming, China, among 247 transgender women. Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, the Chinese version of 8-item UCLA Loneliness Scale, a drug use questionnaire, and a demographic characteristic questionnaire were included in the survey. Descriptive analysis, logistic regression, and mediation analysis were done using SPSS Statistics version 26.0 and Mplus version 8.3. Results: The mean age of transgender women in the study was 33.04 years (standard deviation=8.14). Around 33.20% (n=82) of transgender women reported ever using one kind of drugs, the most commonly used drugs were rush (79.20%), ice (8.50%), and 5-MeO-DIPT (8.50%). Univariate logistic regression showed that perceived stress (odds ratio [OR]=1.73, 95% bootstrap confidence intervals [CI]=1.27-2.36) and loneliness (OR=1.62, 95% CI=1.23-2.13) had a significant association with drug use, all p [ps] <0.01. The effect of perceived stress on drug use was partially mediated by feeling of loneliness (estimate=0.09, standard error=0.04, p<0.05), the mediating effect (0.09) accounted for 27.27% of the total effect (0.33). Conclusion: Perceived stress can positively predict drug use. Loneliness plays an important role in drug use among transgender women.
RESUMO
Background: Osteoporosis represents a significant health concern as a widespread metabolic bone condition. In this study, we aim to utilize path analysis to examine the intricate relationships among demographic information, Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs and osteoporosis preventive behavior among Shanghai residents over 40 years of age. Methods: A multi-center population study was conducted in 20 volunteer communities in Shanghai, China. Out of the 2,000 participants who volunteered, 1,903 completed the field survey. Results: 56.0% of participants were females. Their mean age was 63.64 ± 10.30 years. The self-efficacy score among females (42.27 ± 15.82) was also significantly higher than that among males (40.68 ± 15.20). in the pathway analysis. In the path analysis preventive behaviors were significantly predicted by education (ß = 0.082, p < 0.001), knowledge (ß = 0.132, p < 0.001) and self-efficacy (ß = 0.392, p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of gender, education, knowledge and self-efficacy in promoting OP preventive behaviors using the Health Belief Model. The findings emphasize the need for tailored interventions to address the specific needs of different demographic groups.
