RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Good gastric preparation is indispensable for Magnetic-controlled Capsule Endoscopy (MCE) examination, but there is no consensus yet. We aim to explore the clinical application value of positioning exercises in improving the quality of MCE examination. METHODS: Clinical data of 326 patients who underwent MCE examination from January 2020 to December 2023 were collected. The included patients were divided into two groups: the conventional medication preparation group (CMP group, accepted mucosal cleansing medication only) and the positioning exercises group (PE group, accepted mucosal cleansing medication plus positioning exercises). A comparison was made between the two groups in terms of gastric cavity cleanliness score, visibility score, and detection rate of positive lesions. RESULTS: The examination time was (21.29 ± 5.82) minutes in the PE group and (30.54 ± 6.37) minutes in the CMP group, showing a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.001). The total cleanliness score and visibility score in the CMP group were 15.89 ± 2.82 and 10.93 ± 2.12, respectively. In contrast, the total cleanliness score and visibility score in the PE group were 19.52 ± 2.26 and 15.09 ± 2.31, respectively. The PE group showed significantly better cleanliness scores and visibility scores in all six anatomical regions compared to the CMP group (All P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the detection rate of positive lesions between the two groups (All P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Positioning exercises before MCE examination can improve the quality of gastric mucosal images and reduce the duration of the examination for patients.

RESUMO

The Raman spectrums of hemoglobin from 20 normal persons and 21 esophageal cancer patients were measured and analyzed in the present paper, the results show obvious differences between the Raman spectrums of esophageal cancer patients and normal persons. Compared with normal persons, there are more iron ions in low spin state and less in high spin state in the hemoglobin of esophageal cancer patients. It indicates that some iron ions in high spin state turned to low spin state because of cancerization, and this experimental result coincides with the fact that hemolysis is more likely to occur in cancer patients. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed to get a three-dimensional scatter plot of PC scores for the health and cancer groups, and it can be learned that they are distributed in separate areas. By using the method of discriminate analysis, it was found that the diagnostic algorithm separates the two groups with sensitivity of 90.5% and diagnostic specificity of 95%, and the overall diagnostic accuracy was 92.7%. The results from this exploratory study demonstrate that Raman spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis would be an effective method for early diagnosis of esophageal cancer.

RESUMO

Abnormalities in CD4+ T cell (Th cell) differentiation play an important role in the pathogenesis of viral myocarditis (VMC). Our previous studies demonstrated that activation of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP) alleviated the inflammatory response. In addition, we observed that right cervical vagotomy aggravates VMC by inhibiting CAP. However, the vagus nerve's effect on differentiation of CD4+ T cells has not been studied in VMC mice to date. In this study, we investigated the effects of cervical vagotomy and the α7nAChR agonist pnu282987 on CD4+ T cell differentiation in a murine myocarditis model (BALB/c) infected with coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3). Splenic CD4+ T cells from CVB3-induced mice obtained and cultured to investigate the potential mechanism of CD4+ T cell differentiation. Each Th cell subset was analyzed by flow cytometry. Our results showed that right cervical vagotomy increased proportions of Th1 and Th17 cells and decreased proportions of Th2 and Treg cells in the spleen. Vagotomy-induced upregulation of T-bet, Ror-γ, IFN-γ, and IL-17 expression while downregulating the expression of Gata3, Foxp3, and IL-4 in the heart. In addition, we observed upregulated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, aggravated myocardial lesions and cellular infiltration, and worsened cardiac function in VMC mice. Pnu282987 administration reversed these outcomes. Furthermore, vagotomy inhibited JAK2-STAT3 activation and enhanced NF-κB activation in splenic CD4+ T cells. The CD4+ T cell differentiation was related to JAK2-STAT3 and NF-κB signal pathways. In conclusion, vagus nerve modulates the inflammatory response by regulating CD4+ T cell differentiation in response to VMC.

RESUMO

HYPOTHESIS: The transition metal phosphide is one of the promising bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. Moreover, the activity of phosphide catalysts can be further enhanced by the cationic vacancy engineering. EXPERIMENTS: The self-growth Ni2P nanosheet arrays with abundant cationic vacancy defects (V-Ni2P/NF) has been synthesized via a facile multi-step reaction process involving hydrothermal, phosphorization and acid-etching of Mn which was doped in Ni2P nanosheets as a sacrificial dopant. Furthermore, the experimental studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to evaluate its electrochemical performance. FINDINGS: The chemical and electrocatalytic property of Ni2P were successfully optimized by cationic vacancy engineering and the obtained V-Ni2P/NF catalyst exhibited superior bifunctional catalytic performance for both hydrogen evolution (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) compared to pristine Ni2P and Mn-doped Ni2P in alkaline electrolyte. The V-Ni2P/NF can afford the current density of 10 mA cm-2 at a small overpotential of 55 mV for HER and 250 mV for OER. Additionally, the water electrolysis device assembled by the V-Ni2P/NF electrode as both the anode and cathode just requires a small voltage of 1.59 V to achieve 10 mA cm-2 and shows no obvious attenuation for 50 h.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Increasing evidences have shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in cancer diagnosis and prognosis. However, the overall diagnostic accuracy of lncRNAs for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. Herein, we perform a meta-analysis to assess diagnostic value of lncRNAs for HCC. METHODS: The online PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Embase database were searched for eligible studies published until October 5, 2016. Study quality was evaluated with the Quality Assessment for Studies of Diagnostic Accuracy (QUADAS). All statistical analyses were conducted with Stata 12.0 and Meta-Disc 1.4. RESULTS: We included 19 studies from 10 articles with 1454 patients with HCC and 1300 controls. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and AUC for lncRNAs in the diagnosis of HCC were 0.83 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.76-0.88), 0.80 (95% CI: 0.73-0.86), 4.2 (95% CI: 3.00-5.80), 0.21 (95% CI: 0.15-0.31), 20 (95% CI: 11-34), and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85-0.91), respectively. Additionally, the diagnostic value of lncRNAs varied based on sex ratio of cases and characteristics of methods (specimen type and reference gen). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests lncRNAs show a moderate diagnostic accuracy for HCC. However, prospective studies are required to confirm its diagnostic value.

RESUMO

A new natural mycotoxin was isolated from the fermentation broth of Trichoderma sp. Jing-8 and the structure was determined as alternariol 1'-hydroxy-9-methyl ether (1), together with twelve known compounds. The structures were elucidated on the basis of their 1D, 2D NMR spectra and mass spectrometric data. Compounds 1, 8 and 9 indicated inhibitions against germination of the seeds of cabbage with MICs < 3 µg/mL. The compound 1 showed the antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus with MICs at 64 µg/mL. Compound 1 and 3 showed significant DPPH radical-scavenging activities with IC50 at 12 µg/mL, respectively. The OH at C-1' in compound 1 decreased the cytotoxicity of these mycotoxins. A primary structure-activity relationship about the alternariol derivatives was discussed. Compounds 2-7 and 8 were the first time to be isolated from the Trichoderma.

RESUMO

A simple hydrothermal method has been developed for the one-step synthesis of copper-core/carbon-sheath nanocables in solution. The obtained nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), Raman, and UV-vis spectrum analysis. These copper@carbon nanocables formed through the hydrothermal reduction/carbonization in the presence of surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) acting as the structure-directing agent by hydrothermal treatment. HRTEM and selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) indicate that the resulted Cu nanowires had the preferred [110] growth direction. The influence of the reaction temperature, reaction time, and pH on the final products was investigated in detail. The possible formation mechanism for copper-core/carbon-sheath nanocables was also proposed. Amorphous carbon nanotubes can be obtained by etching the copper core in the nanocables.

RESUMO

Recently, ferroelectric perovskite oxides have drawn much attention due to potential applications in the field of solar energy conversion. However, the power conversion efficiency of ferroelectric photovoltaic effect currently reported is far below the expectable value. One of the crucial problems lies in the two back-to-back Schottky barriers, which are formed at the ferroelectric-electrode interfaces and blocking most of photo-generated carriers to reach the outside circuit. Herein, we develop a new approach to enhance the ferroelectric photovoltaic effect by introducing the polarization-dependent interfacial coupling effect. Through inserting a semiconductor ZnO layer with spontaneous polarization into the ferroelectric ITO/PZT/Au film, a p-n junction with strong polarization-dependent interfacial coupling effect is formed. The power conversion efficiency of the heterostructure is improved by nearly two orders of magnitude and the polarization modulation ratio is increased about four times. It is demonstrated that the polarization-dependent interfacial coupling effect can give rise to a great change in band structure of the heterostructure, not only producing an aligned internal electric field but also tuning both depletion layer width and potential barrier height at PZT-ZnO interface. This work provides an efficient way in developing highly efficient ferroelectric-based solar cells and novel optoelectronic memory devices.
