Current un-sustainable plastic management is exacerbating plastic pollution, an urgent shift is thus needed to create a recycling society. Such recovering carbon (C) and hydrogen (H) from waste plastic has been considered as one practical route to achieve a circular economy. Here, we performed a simple pyrolysis-catalysis deconstruction of waste plastic via a monolithic multilayer stainless-steel mesh catalyst to produce multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and H2, which are important carbon material and energy carrier to achieve sustainable development. Results revealed that the C and H recovery efficiencies were as high as 86% and 70%, respectively. The unique oxidation-reduction process and improvement of surface roughness led to efficient exposure of active sites, which increased MWCNTs by suppressing macromolecule hydrocarbons. The C recovery efficiency declined by only 5% after 10 cycles, proving the long-term employment of the catalyst. This catalyst can efficiently convert aromatics to MWCNTs by the vapor-solid-solid mechanism and demonstrate good universality in processing different kinds of waste plastics. The produced MWCNTs showed potential in applications of lithium-ion batteries and telecommunication. Owing to the economic profits and environmental benefits of the developed route, we highlighted its potential as a promising alternative to conventional incineration, simultaneously achieving the waste-to-resource strategy and circular economy.

OBJECTIVES: Following current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines, which recommend chest compressions at "the center of the chest," ~50% of patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) undergo aortic valve (AV) compression, obstructing blood flow. We used resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to elucidate the impact of uncompressed vs. compressed AV on outcomes of adult patients experiencing OHCA. DESIGN: Prospective observational cohort study. SETTING: Single center. PATIENTS: This study included adult OHCA patients undergoing resuscitative TEE in the emergency department. Patients were categorized into AV uncompressed or AV compressed groups based on TEE findings. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The primary outcome was sustained return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). The secondary outcomes included end-tidal co2 (Etco2) during CPR, any ROSC, survival to ICU and hospital discharge, post-resuscitation withdrawal, and favorable neurologic outcomes at discharge. Additional analyses on intra-arrest arterial blood pressure (ABP) were also conducted. The sample size was pre-estimated at 37 patients/group. From October 2020 to January 2023, 76 patients were enrolled, 39 and 37 in the AV uncompressed and AV compressed groups, respectively. Intergroup baseline characteristics were similar. Compared with the AV compressed group, the AV uncompressed group had a higher probability of sustained ROSC (53.8% vs. 24.3%; adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 4.72; p = 0.010), any ROSC (56.4% vs. 32.4%; aOR, 3.30; p = 0.033), and survival to ICU (33.3% vs. 8.1%; aOR, 6.74; p = 0.010), and recorded higher initial diastolic ABP (33.4 vs. 11.5 mm Hg; p = 0.002) and a larger proportion achieving diastolic ABP greater than 20 mm Hg during CPR (93.8% vs. 33.3%; p < 0.001). The Etco2, post-resuscitation withdrawal, and survival to discharge revealed no significant intergroup differences. No patients were discharged with favorable neurologic outcomes. Uncompressed AV seemed critical for sustained ROSC across all subgroups. CONCLUSIONS: Absence of AV compression during OHCA resuscitation is associated with an increased chance of ROSC and survival to ICU. However, its effect on long-term outcomes remains unclear.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: To develop a prediction model for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to identify trauma patients at high risk of deterioration to emergency medical service (EMS)-witnessed traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) on the scene or en route. METHODS: We developed a prediction model using the classical cross-validation method from the Pan-Asia Trauma Outcomes Study (PATOS) database from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2020. Eligible patients aged ≥18 years were transported to the hospital by the EMS. The primary outcome (EMS-witnessed TCA) was defined based on changes in vital signs measured on the scene or en route. We included variables that were immediately measurable as potential predictors when EMTs arrived. An integer point value system was built using multivariable logistic regression. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow (HL) test were used to examine discrimination and calibration in the derivation and validation cohorts. RESULTS: In total, 74,844 patients were eligible for database review. The model comprised five prehospital predictors: age <40 years, systolic blood pressure <100 mmHg, respiration rate >20/minute, pulse oximetry <94%, and levels of consciousness to pain or unresponsiveness. The AUROC in the derivation and validation cohorts was 0.767 and 0.782, respectively. The HL test revealed good calibration of the model (p = 0.906). CONCLUSION: We established a prediction model using variables from the PATOS database and measured them immediately after EMS personnel arrived to predict EMS-witnessed TCA. The model allows prehospital medical personnel to focus on high-risk patients and promptly administer optimal treatment.

In harsh environments, it is crucial to design personal protective materials that possess both puncture/cut resistance and chemical resistance. In order to fulfill these requirements, this study introduces an innovative approach that combines hydrophobically modified rigid nanoparticles with thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers. These materials are then laminated with high-performance aramid fabrics through a scraping process, resulting in a multifunctional composite with puncture/cut resistance, superhydrophobicity, self-cleaning properties, and acid/alkali resistance. The quasi-static puncture tests conducted reveal the remarkable performance of the composite. The maximum spike puncture resistance reaches 267.62 N, which is 17.14 times higher than that of the pure fabric (15.61 N). Similarly, the maximum knife puncture resistance reaches 115.02 N, exhibiting a 5.01 times increase compared to that of the pure aramid fabric (22.97 N). Furthermore, the results obtained from the yarn pull-out, fabric burst strength, and tearing experiments demonstrate that the incorporation of rigid nanoparticles significantly enhances the friction between the yarns, enabling a greater number of yarns to participate in the dissipation of impact energy. As a result, the puncture resistance of the fabric is greatly improved. Significantly, the composite exhibits sustained superhydrophobicity even after exposure to harsh chemicals such as concentrated sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide as well as undergoing cyclic mechanical wear. These findings highlight the composite's exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion. Overall, this study offers insights and methods for the development of multifunctional flexible puncture-resistant equipment for individuals.

BACKGROUND: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed a great burden on Taiwan's health care system. It has also had a great impact on other public health issues, including cancer screening. Delayed cancer screening was also noticed in the U.S. during the pandemic, which may have led to both delayed diagnosis and poor prognosis. In Taiwan, population-based cancer screening for breast cancer, oral cancer, colon cancer and cervical cancer has been executed and ongoing for years. METHOD: In this study we have analyzed the change in screening numbers for cancer during the period of the 2019 to 2021 COVID-19 outbreak in Taiwan. RESULTS: Through our results we found that total cancer screening numbers decreased from 307,547 to 103,289 (a 66% decrease) from the years 2020 to 2021. Specifically, a 63%, 79%, 65% and 71% decrease in screening cases was seen for colon cancer, oral cancer, cervical cancer and breast cancer, respectively, during that period. A similar condition was noticed when comparing 2019 to 2021 when the disclosed total cancer screening numbers decreased by 70% (2019-2021); 65%, 83%, 70% and 76% in colon cancer, oral cancer, cervical cancer and breast cancer, respectively. Among these various cancer screenings, oral cancer screening showed the greatest reduction rate (a drop of 83% compared to 2019 and 79% compared to 2020). We also compared the reduction rates taken from different regions in Taiwan. It was in Taipei, where most COVID-19 cases were noted, that the greatest reduction rate of cancer screening numbers occurred (a drop of76% compared to 2019 and 74% compared to 2020). A proportional decrease of screening cases was also noticed in all areas when confirmed COVID-19 cases rose. CONCLUSIONS: Screening for cancers dropped significantly due to the pandemic and its effect on long-term health needs to be evaluated. Additionally, efforts should be taken to address these cancer screening number deficits which have taken place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A rational design of an electrocatalyst presents a promising avenue for solar fuels synthesis from carbon dioxide (CO2) fixation but is extremely challenging. Herein, we use density functional theory calculations to study an inexpensive binary copper-iron catalyst for photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction toward methane. The calculations of reaction energetics suggest that Cu and Fe in the binary system can work in synergy to significantly deform the linear configuration of CO2 and reduce the high energy barrier by stabilizing the reaction intermediates, thus spontaneously favoring CO2 activation and conversion for methane synthesis. Experimentally, the designed CuFe catalyst exhibits a high current density of -38.3 mA⋅cm-2 using industry-ready silicon photoelectrodes with an impressive methane Faradaic efficiency of up to 51%, leading to a distinct turnover frequency of 2,176 h-1 under air mass 1.5 global (AM 1.5G) one-sun illumination.

Platinum-based atomically ordered alloys (i.e., intermetallic compounds) have distinct advantages over disordered solid solution counterparts in boosting the cathodic oxygen-reduction reaction (ORR) in proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells. Nevertheless, the pivotal role of ordering degree of intermetallic catalysts in promoting ORR performance has been ignored heavily so far, probably owing to the lack of synthetic routes for controlling the ordering degree, especially for preparing highly ordered intermetallic catalysts. Herein, a family of intermetallic PtFe catalysts with similar particle size of 3-4 nm but varied ordering degree in a wide range of 10-70% are prepared. After constructing the PtFe/Pt core/shell structure with around 3 Pt-layer skin, a positive correlation between the ordering degree of the intermetallic catalysts and their ORR activity and durability is identified. Notably, the highly ordered PtFe/Pt catalyst exhibits a high mass activity of 0.92 A mgPt -1 at 0.9 ViR-corrected as cathode catalyst in H2 -O2 fuel cell, with only 24% loss after accelerated durability tests. The ordering degree-dependent performance can be ascribed to the compressive strain effect induced by the intermetallic PtFe core with smaller lattice parameters, and the more thermodynamically stable intermetallic structure compared to disordered alloys.

Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is a dangerous threat to rice production and food security worldwide. Breeding and proper deployment of resistant varieties are effective and environmentally friendly strategies to manage this notorious disease. However, a highly dynamic and quickly evolved rice blast pathogen population in the field has made disease control with resistance germplasms more challenging. Therefore, continued monitoring of pathogen dynamics and application of effective resistance varieties are critical tasks to prolong or sustain field resistance. Here, we report a team project that involved evaluation of rice blast resistance genes and surveillance of M. oryzae field populations in Taiwan. A set of International Rice Research Institute-bred blast-resistant lines (IRBLs) carrying single blast resistance genes was utilized to monitor the field effectiveness of rice blast resistance. Resistance genes such as Ptr (formerly Pita2) and Pi9 exhibited the best and most durable resistance against the rice blast fungus population in Taiwan. Interestingly, line IRBLb-B harboring the Pib gene with good field protection has recently shown susceptible lesions in some locations. To dissect the genotypic features of virulent isolates against the Pib resistance gene, M. oryzae isolates were collected and analyzed. Screening of the AvrPib locus revealed that the majority of field isolates still maintained the wild-type AvrPib status but eight virulent genotypes were found. Pot3 insertion appeared to be a major way to disrupt the AvrPib avirulence function. Interestingly, a novel AvrPib double-allele genotype among virulent isolates was first identified. Pot2 repetitive element-based polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) fingerprinting analysis indicated that mutation events may occur independently among different lineages in different geographic locations of Taiwan. This study provides our surveillance experience of rice blast disease and serves as the foundation to sustain rice production.

BACKGROUND: The sign of contrast agent pooling (C.A.P.) in dependent part of the venous system were reported in some case reports, which happened in the patients before sudden cardiac arrest. Until now, there is no solid evidence enough to address the importance of the sign. This study aimed to assess the accuracy of the C.A.P. sign in predicting imminent cardiac arrest and the association of the C.A.P. sign with patient's survival. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study. The study included all patients who visited the emergency department, who received contrast computed tomography (CT) scan and then experienced cardiac arrest at the emergency department (from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018). We evaluated the occurrence of the C.A.P. sign on the chest or abdominal CT scan, patients with ECMO were excluded. With positive C.A.P. sign, the primary outcome is whether in-hospital cardiac arrest happens within an hour; the accuracy of C.A.P. sign was calculated. The secondary outcome is survival to discharge. RESULTS: In the study, 128 patients were included. 8.6% (N = 11) patients had positive C.A.P. sign and 91.4% (N = 117) patients did not. The accuracy of C.A.P. sign in predicting cardiac arrest within 1 h was 85.94%. The C.A.P. sign had a positive association with IHCA within 1 h after the CT scan (adjusted odds ratio 7.35, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.27 - 42.69). The relative risk (RR) of survival to discharge was 0.90 with positive C.A.P. sign (95% CI 0.85 - 0.96). CONCLUSIONS: The C.A.P. sign can be considered as an alarm for imminent cardiac arrest and poor prognosis. The patients with positive C.A.P. sign were more likely to experience imminent cardiac arrest; in contrast, less likely to survive. TRIAL REGISTRATION: IRB No.108107-E.

We describe the enantioselective oxidative cross-coupling of secondary amines with ketones by combining the non-natural catalytic activity of lipase with electrosynthesis. Various 2,2-disubstituted 3-carbonyl indoles with a stereogenic quaternary carbon center were synthesized from 2-substituted indoles in yields up to 78 % with good enantio- and diastereoselectivities (up to 96 : 4 e.r. and >20 : 1 d.r.). This unprecedented protocol demonstrated that hydrolase catalysis is compatible with electrosynthesis, and the reaction can be carried out in organic solvents with a broad substrate scope and good stereoselectivity. This work provides insights into enzymatic electrosynthesis.

The rational synthesis of single-layer noble metal directly anchored on support materials is an elusive target to accomplish for a long time. This paper reports well-defined single-layer Pt (Pt-SL) clusters anchored on ultrathin TiO2 nanosheets-as a new frontier in electrocatalysis. The structural evolution of Pt-SL/TiO2 via self-assembly of single Pt atoms (Pt-SA) is systematically recorded. Significantly, the Pt atoms of Pt-SL/TiO2 possess a unique electronic configuration with PtPt covalent bonds surrounded by abundant unpaired electrons. This Pt-SL/TiO2 catalyst presents enhanced electrochemical performance toward diverse electrocatalytic reactions (such as the hydrogen evolution reaction and the oxygen reduction reaction) compared with Pt-SA, multilayer Pt nanoclusters, and Pt nanoparticles, suggesting an efficient new type of catalyst that can be achieved by constructing single-layer atomic clusters on supports.

Chitinase can degrade chitin and play an essential role in animal immunity and plant defense. The immune functions of Chitinase in Procambarus clarkii (P. clarkii) remain to elucidate. Here, we identified PcChitinase 2 gene sequence from P. clarkii and studied its spatial and temporal expression profiles. The PcChitinase 2 transcribed unequally in different tissues; however, its expression was highest in those of stomach, gut, and hepatopancreas. The challenge with lipolysaccharide or peptidoglycan significantly up-regulated the expression of PcChitinase 2 in hepatopancreas. The knockdown of the PcChitinase 2 gene by double-stranded RNA suppressed most of the Toll-pathway-related immune genes (phospholipase, lectin, sptazle Cactus, serine proteikinase, anti-lipopolysaccharide factor, and Toll) production were significantly increased. Our results suggest PcChitinase 2 may be involved in the innate immune responses of P. clarkii by modulating the toll pathway.

BACKGROUND: Day care service (DCS) provides various activities in a professional environment to meet the old people with functional limitations. However, relatively little is known about the effects of DCS on physical and mental functions. METHODS: This was a retrospective study that we used a comprehensive geriatric assessment to evaluate the changes before and after DCS among participants in a hospital-affiliated geriatric day care center in Taiwan. The burden of the participants' families was also assessed. RESULTS: The 18 participants with a median age of 80.9 (interquartile range (IQR) 75.2-86.6 y/o) were enrolled and followed up for 6 months. Based on the clinical dementia rating (CDR), disease stage was very mild in 3 participants, mild in 10, moderate in 3, and severe in 2. The activities of daily living (ADL) scores of the participants improved significantly from 75 (IQR 60.0-80.0) at baseline to 77.5 (IQR 65.0-90.0) at the 6 month (p < 0.001), and mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scores from 15 (IQR 11.5-20.0) to 18 (IQR 15.8-24.0) (p = 0.026). There was a positive correlation of baseline mini-nutritional assessment-short form score and the 3-level version of the European Quality of Life-5 dimensions utility index with both ADL and MMSE scores at the 6-month follow-up. In addition, the family burden scale was reduced from 22 to 15 (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: The physical and cognitive functions in old people with dementia who received DCS were maintained or partially improved, and their families' stress burden was alleviated.

BACKGROUND: Frailty, a syndrome characterized by a decline in function reserve, is common in older patients with heart failure (HF) and is associated with prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of frailty on outcomes in older patients with preserved and reduced cardiac function. METHODS: In total, 811 adults aged ≥65 years were consecutively enrolled from 2009 to 2018. HF was diagnosed according to the ICD9 code and a 2D echocardiogram was categorized by reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The index date was registered at the time of HF. All patients received a comprehensive geriatric assessment, and clinical outcomes were examined with adjustment of the other prognostic variables. RESULTS: Mean age was 80.5 ± 7.1 years. The prevalence of HF, HFpEF, HFrEF, Fried, and Rockwood frailty indicators was 28.5, 10.4, 9.7, 52.5, and 74.9%, respectively. At baseline, scores in the Timed Up and Go test was closely associated with the severity of HF, either with HFpEF or HFrEF. After a mean follow-up of 3.2 ± 2.0 years, we found that HF patients with low handgrip strength (HGS) had the poorest survival, followed by non-HF patients with decreased HGS, and HF with fair HGS in comparison with non-HF with fair HGS (p = 0.008) if participants were arbitrarily divided into two HGS groups. In all patients, a high Rockwood frailty index was independently associated with increased mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 1.05; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.0004 to 1.10). In addition, the adjusted mortality HR was 3.42 with decreased HGS (95% CI: 1.03 to 11.40), 7.65 with use of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (95% CI: 2.22 to 26.32), and 1.26 with associated multi-comorbidities assessed by Charlson comorbidity index (95% CI: 1.05 to 1.51). CONCLUSIONS: Our study results indicate that frailty and decreased physical functions were associated with HF. Besides, frailty and HGS predicted prognosis in the patients, and there was a combined effect of HF and low HGS on survival.

Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumours, and glioblastomas (GBMs) are subgrouped into four distinct molecular subtypes. This study aimed to identify the potential gene related to glioma progression. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to explore the related gene. Correlation, ROC, survival and Cox regression analyses were performed. Blue module was strongly associated with WHO grade (r = .65, P = 1e-19). GNG5 in gliomas was overexpressed compared with normal samples and associated with clinicopathologic characteristics. GNG5 was frequent in Mesenchymal subtype and lowly expressed in Proneural subtype of GBMs. Survival and Cox regression analyses showed that glioma patients with GNG5 overexpression had shorter survival time, and GNG5 was an independent prognostic indicator of overall survival. Overall, GNG5 expression is closely associated with clinicopathologic characteristics and is an independent prognostic indicator for glioma patients, as well as a promising subtype-associated biomarker in molecular classification of gliomas.

Catalytic biomass conversions are sustainable processes to produce value-added fuels and chemicals but need stable catalysts that can tolerate harsh hydrothermal conditions. Herein, we report a hydrothermally stable catalyst by alloying Pt with a high-melting-point metal Nb. The Pt/Nb alloy catalysts are prepared by H2 reduction at a high temperature of 900 °C with a high-surface-area carbon black support, which can suppress metal sintering at high temperatures and thus lead to small-sized alloyed Pt/Nb particles of only 2.2 nm. Taking the advantages of surface acid property provided by the Nb sites and the size effect, the prepared C-supported small-sized Pt/Nb alloy catalysts exhibit attractive activities for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid into γ-valerolactone and the water-gas shift reaction. More significantly, benefiting from the inherent stability of high-melting-point Nb, the Pt/Nb alloy catalysts show much enhanced hydrothermal stability compared to commercial Pt/C and Ru/C catalysts.

BACKGROUND: The seasonal influenza epidemic is an important public health issue worldwide. Early predictive identification of patients with potentially worse outcome is important in the emergency department (ED). Similarly as with bacterial infection, influenza can cause sepsis. This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) criteria and the quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) score as prognostic predictors for ED patients with influenza. METHODS: This single-center, retrospective cohort study investigated data that was retrieved from a hospital-based research database. Adult ED patients (age ≥ 18 at admission) with laboratory-proven influenza from 2010 to 2016 were included for data analysis. The initial SIRS and qSOFA scores were both collected. The primary outcome was the utility of each score in the prediction of in-hospital mortality. RESULTS: For the study period, 3561 patients met the study inclusion criteria. The overall in-hospital mortality was 2.7% (95 patients). When the qSOFA scores were 0, 1, 2, and 3, the percentages of in-hospital mortality were 0.6, 7.2, 15.9, and 25%, respectively. Accordingly, the odds ratios (ORs) were 7.72, 11.92, and 22.46, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity was 24 and 96.2%, respectively, when the qSOFA score was ≥2. However, the SIRS criteria showed no significant associations with the primary outcome. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.864, which is significantly higher than that with SIRS, where the AUC was 0.786 (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The qSOFA score potentially is a useful prognostic predictor for influenza and could be applied in the ED as a risk stratification tool. However, qSOFA may not be a good screening tool for triage because of its poor sensitivity. The SIRS criteria showed poor predictive performance in influenza for mortality as an outcome. Further research is needed to determine the role of these predictive tools in influenza and in other viral infections.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), low serum albumin, and anemia are known risk factors for cognitive decline in older people. We investigated the association between kidney function and cognitive impairment severity in oldest-old people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: A cross-sectional study of patients aged 80 years and older was conducted at a veterans' home in Taiwan between 2012 and 2016. Their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was determined using the Modification of Diet in Renal Diseases (MDRD) equation. Cognitive function was evaluated with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR). RESULTS: A total of 84 patients (age mean ± SD, 86.6 ± 3.9 years) had MMSE scores of 10.1 ± 6.7, and CDR scores of 1.6 ± 0.7. The average eGFR was 61.7 ± 21.5 mL/min/1.73m2. The mean hemoglobin concentration was 12.7 ± 1.7 g/dl, and the mean albumin concentration was 4.5 ± 4.8 g/dl. Multivariate regression analyses showed that scores of CDR were significantly correlated with eGFR after adjustment for potential confounders. The scores of MMSE were significantly correlated with serum albumin and hemoglobin after adjustment for potential confounders. CONCLUSIONS: We found dementia severity was significantly associated with kidney function, serum albumin, and hemoglobin in the oldest-old with AD. We recommend that oldest-old people with a diagnosis of AD be evaluated to determine kidney function, as well as nutritional and hematological status. Further study is needed to establish whether prevention of CKD deterioration, and correction of malnutrition and anemia may help to slow cognitive decline in oldest-old people with dementia.

Underwater acoustic sensor networks play an important role in assisting humans to explore information under the sea. In this work, we consider the combination of sensor selection and data routing in three dimensional underwater wireless sensor networks based on Bayesian compressive sensing and particle swarm optimization. The algorithm we proposed is a two-tier PSO approach. In the first tier, a PSO-based clustering protocol is proposed to synthetically consider the energy consumption and uniformity of cluster head distribution. Then in the second tier, a PSO-based routing protocol is proposed to implement inner-cluster one-hop routing and outer-cluster multi-hop routing. The nodes selected to constitute i-th effective routing path decide which positions in the i-th row of the measurement matrix are nonzero. As a result, in this tier the protocol comprehensively considers energy efficiency, network balance and data recovery quality. The Bayesian Cramér-Rao Bound (BCRB) in such a case is analyzed and added in the fitness function to monitor the mean square error of the reconstructed signal. The experimental results validate that our algorithm maintains a longer life time and postpones the appearance of the first dead node while keeps the reconstruction error lower compared with the cutting-edge algorithms which are also based on distributed multi-hop compressive sensing approaches.

The development of metal-N-C materials as efficient non-precious metal (NPM) catalysts for catalysing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as alternatives to platinum is important for the practical use of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). However, metal-N-C materials have high structural heterogeneity. As a result of their high-temperature synthesis they often consist of metal-Nx sites and graphene-encapsulated metal nanoparticles. Thus it is hard to identify the active structure of metal-N-C catalysts. Herein, we report a low-temperature NH4 Cl-treatment to etch out graphene-encapsulated nanoparticles from metal-N-C catalysts without destruction of co-existing atomically dispersed metal-Nx sites. Catalytic activity is much enhanced by this selective removal of metallic nanoparticles. Accordingly, we can confirm the spectator role of graphene-encapsulated nanoparticles and the pivotal role of metal-Nx sites in the metal-N-C materials for ORR in the acidic medium.
