RESUMO

Multimode fiber lasers have become a new platform for investigating nonlinear phenomena since the report on spatiotemporal mode-locking. In this work, the multimode soliton pulsation with a tunable period is achieved in a spatiotemporal mode-locked fiber laser. It demonstrates that the pulsation period drops while increasing the pump power. Moreover, it is found that different transverse modes have the same pulsation period, asynchronous pulsation evolution and different dynamical characteristics through the spatial sampling technique and the dispersive Fourier transform technique. To further verify the experimental results, we numerically investigate the influences of the gain and the loss on the pulsation properties. It is found that within a certain parameter range, the pulsation period drops and rises linearly with the increase of the gain and the loss, respectively. The obtained results contribute to understanding the formation and regulating of soliton pulsations in fiber lasers.

RESUMO

Spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) fiber lasers have become a new platform for investigating nonlinear phenomena. In this work, spatiotemporal dual-periodic soliton pulsation (SDSP) is firstly observed in an STML fiber laser. It is found that in the SDSP, the long-period pulsations (LPPs) of different transverse modes are synchronous, while the short-period pulsations (SPPs) exhibit asynchronous modulations. The numerical simulation confirms the experimental results and further reveals that the proportion of transverse mode components can manipulate the periods of the LPP and SPP but does not affect the synchronous and asynchronous pulsations of different transverse modes. The obtained results bring the study of spatiotemporal dissipative soliton pulsation into the multi-period modulation stage, which helps to understand the complex spatiotemporal dynamics in STML fiber lasers and discover new dynamics in high-dimensional nonlinear systems.

RESUMO

We report, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, a spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) multimode fiber laser based on nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM), generating dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) pulses. Due to the complex filtering characteristics caused by the inherent multimode interference filtering structure and NALM in the cavity, the STML DSR pulse has wavelength tunable function. What's more, kinds of DSR pulses are also achieved, including multiple DSR pulses, and the period doubling bifurcations of single DSR pulse and multiple DSR pulses. These results contribute to further understand the nonlinear properties of STML lasers and may shed some light on improving the performance of the multimode fiber lasers.

RESUMO

The Mamyshev oscillator (MO) is a promising platform to generate high-peak-power pulse with environmentally stable operation. However, rare efforts have been dedicated to unveil the dynamics from seed signal to oscillator pulse, particularly for the multi-pulse operation. Herein, we investigate the buildup dynamics of the oscillator pulse from the seed signal in a fiber MO. It is revealed that the gain competition among the successively injected seed pulses leads to higher pump power that is required to ignite the MO, hence resulting in the higher optical gain that supports buildup of multiple oscillator pulses. The multiple oscillator pulses are identified to be evolved from the multiple seed pulses. Moreover, the dispersive Fourier transform (DFT) technique is used to reveals the real-time spectral dynamics during the starting process. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, a highly intensity-modulated pulse bunch was employed as the seed signal to reduce the gain competition effect and avoid the multi-pulse starting operation. The experimental results are verified by numerical simulations. These findings would give new insights into the pulse dynamics in MO, which will be meaningful to the communities interested in ultrafast laser technologies and nonlinear optics.

RESUMO

Research studies on nutrient content and microbial communities after the application of organic manure have been reported, while available information about multi-interaction mechanisms of nutrient stoichiometry and microbial succession in soil aggregates remains limited. This work conducted a 10-year field experiment amended with cow manure (1.5 t/ha), during which the application of organic manure stimulated the fragmentation of soil macro-aggregates (>5 mm) and the agglomeration of soil micro-aggregates (<0.25 mm). Hence, the proportion of medium-size aggregates (0.25-5 mm) was increased in bulk soil, and there was an insignificant difference in the stability of soil aggregates. Meanwhile, the application of organic manure increased soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN) and phosphorus (TP) in all soil aggregate fractions. SOC, TN and TP were higher in micro-aggregates (<0.25 mm) after the application of organic manure, thus the dominating phylum of bacteria and fungi was more abundance in micro-aggregates due to the increase in nutrient level. During the organic fertilization process, fungal communities significantly changed because the variation of carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C:N) in soil aggregates. Cultivated farmland in Northeast China showed a considerable capacity to sequestrate SOC during the organic fertilization process, but nitrogen may be a primary macro-element limiting soil productivity. Theoretically, organic manure amended with nitrogen fertilizer could be an effective measure to maintain microbial diversity and crop productivity in agro-ecosystems in Northeast China.

RESUMO

We report a narrow bandwidth spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) ytterbium-doped fiber laser, based on a homemade carbon nanotube/polyvinyl alcohol composite film and the multimode interference filtering effect. The wavelength-tunable narrow bandwidth STML operations combined with different pulse states are achieved, including single pulse, multiple pulses, and harmonics. The 3-dB bandwidth at the single-pulse state is 103 pm, while at the harmonic state, it is as narrow as 26 pm. To give an insight into the generation of the narrow bandwidth STML pulses, numerical simulations are performed. Such a laser has a wide range of potential applications in fields of optical communication and optical measurement, as well as provides a favorable platform for studying the evolution dynamics of multimode solitons.

RESUMO

Considerable research efforts have been devoted to increase phosphorus (P) availability during aerobic composting. However, there is little discussion weather the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) controls the transformation among P-fractions. Thus, we investigated the changes in DOC compositions and P-fractions during biochar-amended composting (wet weight basis, 5% and 10%). TP content continuously increased since the 'concentration effect' during aerobic composting. NaHCO3-Pi, NaOH-Pi and HCl-Pi were main P-fractions, and biochar can improve P-bioavailability by transforming NaOH-Pi and HCl-Pi into NaHCO3-Pi. Structure equation models (SEMs) indicated that biochar enhanced the P-bioavailability through regulating the decomposition of DOC. Our results at least hint that the activation mechanism on P under the influence of DOC during biochar-amended composting.

RESUMO

We report the spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber laser operating at 1.55 µm based on semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors with the mode-locking threshold as low as 104 mW. Benefiting from the multimode interference filtering effect introduced in the laser cavity not only the central wavelength can be continuously tuned from 1557 nm to 1567 nm, but also the number of the output pulses can be adjusted from 1 to 4 by simply adjusting the polarization controllers. This work provides a new platform for exploring the dynamic characteristics of spatiotemporal mode-locked pulses at negative dispersion regime. Moreover, this kind of tunable laser has potential applications in fields of all-optical signal processing, fiber sensing and information coding.

RESUMO

The bidirectional ultrafast fiber laser is a promising light source for dual-comb applications. The counter-propagating geometry could lead to soliton interaction through gain sharing, as well as the possible outcome of polarization instability. However, the polarization dynamics hidden behind the soliton interaction process in bidirectional fiber lasers were rarely investigated. Herein, we report on the polarization instability induced by the mutual soliton interactions through fiber gain in a bidirectional mode-locked fiber laser. Depending on the adjustment of the intracavity birefringence, the polarization states of two counter-propagating solitons can exhibit similar periodical polarization switching behaviors with a polarization-rotating transition state. The successive interactions of the bidirectional solitons mediated by the polarization cross-saturation effect of gain fiber could be responsible for the soliton polarization instability. These findings, in addition to the fundamental interest of the soliton nonlinear dynamics in dissipative optical systems, also open up new possibilities for creating dynamical control of the soliton polarization state and performance improvement in bidirectional ultrafast fiber lasers.

RESUMO

We report a switchable and spacing tunable dual-wavelength spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) laser based on the multimode interference filtering effect in an all-fiber linear cavity. The dual-wavelength STML operations combined with different pulse patterns are achieved. By adjusting the polarization controllers, the dual-wavelength STML pulses can be switched to single wavelength operation, which is tunable up to 35 nm under certain pump powers. Moreover, the dual-wavelength spacing can also be tuned from 8 nm to 22 nm. The obtained results contribute to understanding and exploring the spatiotemporal characteristics operating in the multi-wavelength regime of STML fiber lasers. All-fiber STML lasers with lasing wavelength tunability and flexibility may have applications in the fields of optical communications and optical measurements.

RESUMO

Considerable researches have been devoted to ascertain the transformation among heavy metal (HM) or phosphorus (P) fractions during aerobic composting. However, available information that additives with different grain-sizes regulate the activation mechanism on P through influencing the passivation effect on HMs remains limited. Thus, this work aimed to investigate the dynamic changes in HM-fractions and P-fractions, and ascertain the interaction pathway between HMs and P during aerobic composting amended with medical stone (Coarse medical stone, 3-5 mm; Fine medical stone, < 0.1 mm). Medical stone, especially for coarse-grained medical stone, significantly enhanced the HM-passivation and P-activation during the composting (P < 0.05). The bioavailability factor of HMs decreased by 48.05% (Cu), 20.65% (Pb), 15.58% (Cd) and 6.10% (Zn), and the content of labile available P (LAP) increased by 6.45%. HMs, with the explanatory capacity of 65.9%-84.9%, was important parameter superior to temperature (0.8%-5.4%), moisture content (MC, 0.1%-1.7%), pH (0.1%-8.7%), electric conductivity (EC, 0.8%-9.8%), carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N, 0.3%-2.3%) ratio and dissolved organic carbon (DOC, 0.4%-3.1%), to evaluate the transformation among P-fractions. Our results cast a new light on P-activation with respect to HM-passivation during aerobic composting.

RESUMO

Soliton buildup dynamics in ultrafast fiber lasers are one of the most significant topics in both the fundamental and industrial fields. In this work, by using the dispersive Fourier transformation technique, the real-time spectral evolution of soliton buildup dynamics were investigated in the all-polarization-maintaining Yb-doped fiber laser, which is mode-locked by nonlinear polarization evolution technique through the cross splicing method. It was experimentally confirmed that the same stable soliton state could be achieved through different soliton starting processes because of the initial random noises. In one case, the maximum pulse energy during the soliton starting process could reach ∼15 times the stable pulse energy, which results in the spectral chaotic state and temporal shift. We also provide another soliton buildup case with the same cavity parameters, which illustrates more moderate evolution. It involves smaller energy variation and no complex transition state. These results would deepen our understanding of soliton buildup dynamics and be beneficial for the applications of ultrafast fiber lasers.

RESUMO

We report the generation of vortex soliton molecules (VSMs) in a passively mode-locked fiber laser based on a mode selective coupler (MSC). ±1-order VSMs with variable numbers of molecules are observed. By adjusting the polarization state of the light in the cavity, we further demonstrate the process in which one VSM splits to multiple. During this process, the number of the solitons inside the VSM also varies and their separation gradually increases while the spectral modulation being unobservable, and vice versa. The obtained results have potential applications in fields of optical communications, especially in information coding.

RESUMO

To investigate the effects of different levels of enzymatic hydrolysate of dietary locust bean gum on nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology and microflora of broilers, a total of 768 one-day-old Arbor Acres (AA) broiler chicks were randomly divided into 6 treatments with 8 replicates per treatment and 16 birds per replicate. The treatments were as follows: (1) CON, basal diet; (2) ANT, basal diet +62.5 mg/kg flavomycin; (3) LBG, basal diet +0.1% locust bean gum; (4) ELBG-0.1, basal diet +0.1% enzymatic hydrolysate of LBG; (5) ELBG-0.2, basal diet +0.2% enzymatic hydrolysate of LBG; and (6) ELBG-0.3, basal diet +0.3% enzymatic hydrolysate of LBG. The digestibilities of ether extract, crude protein and dry matter were increased (p < .01) in broilers fed the ELBG-0.3 diet compared with the CON and LBG diets on day 21. Duodenal villus height and the ratio of the villus height to crypt depth were greater (p < .01) in broilers fed the ELBG-0.3 diet than the CON, ANT and LBG diets. Jejunum villus height was higher (p < .05) in broilers fed the ELBG-0.2 and ELBG-0.3 diets than the CON diet. The number of caecal Escherichia coli was reduced (p = .01) in broilers fed the ELBG-0.2 and ELBG-0.3 diets compared with the CON diet. The number of caecal Lactobacilli was greater (p < .05) in broilers fed the ELBG-0.3 diet than the CON and ANT diets. In summary, the addition of 0.3% locust bean enzymatic hydrolysate can increase the surface area of intestinal villi and the number of beneficial bacteria, inhibit the proliferation of harmful bacteria, maintain the balance of intestinal microflora and improve the digestibility of nutrients.

RESUMO

Pulsating behavior is a universal phenomenon in versatile fields. In nonlinear dissipative systems, the solitons also pulsate under proper conditions and show many interesting dynamics. However, the pulsation dynamics are generally concerned with single-soliton cases. Herein, by utilizing real-time spectroscopy technique, namely, dispersive Fourier-transform (DFT), we reveal the distinct dynamical diversity of pulsating solitons in a fiber laser. In particular, the weak to strong explosive behaviors of pulsating solitons, as well as the rogue wave generation during explosions are observed. Moreover, the concept of soliton pulsation is extended to the multi-soliton case. It is found that the simultaneous pulsations of energy, separation and relative phase difference could be observed for solitons inside the molecule, while the pulsations of each individual in a multi-soliton bunch could be regular or irregular. These findings will shed new insights into the complex nonlinear behavior of solitons in ultrafast fiber lasers as well as dissipative optical systems.

RESUMO

A 42-day trial was conducted to investigate the effect of pectin oligosaccharides (POS) and zinc chelate (Zn-POS) on growth performance, antioxidant ability, zinc status, intestinal morphology and short-chain fatty acids in broilers. A total of 324 1-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomly assigned to three treatments with six cages of 18 chicks. Treatments were: (a) Control, 80 mg/kg Zn from ZnSO4 ; (b) POS, 80 mg/kg Zn from ZnSO4 + 482 mg/kg POS (the same amount of POS as treatment 3); and (c) Zn-POS, 80 mg/kg zinc from Zn-POS. Compared to the Control, both POS and Zn-POS supplementation increased average daily gain and reduced the mortality during day 22-42, and only Zn-POS supplementation decreased the ratio of feed to gain during day 22-42 and 1-42. Moreover, both POS and Zn-POS supplementation improved Zn status and gut function as evidenced by increased metallothionein concentrations in the pancreas, villus height in the duodenum and isobutyrate concentrations in the caecal digesta. Additionally, Zn-POS supplementation increased gene expressions of metallothionein, Zn transporter 1, Zn transporter 2 in the pancreas, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 in the liver, the concentrations of acetate, propionate, butyrate and total SCFA in the caecal digesta and the villus height to crypt depth ratio in the duodenum and jejunum, whereas decreased the crypt depth in these two tissues. Altogether, our results revealed that dietary POS or Zn-POS supplementation benefited growth performance, Zn status, antioxidant ability and gut function of broilers. Supplementing Zn-POS in the form of chelate was more effective than feeding POS or ZnSO4 separately.

RESUMO

We experimentally report the coexistence of the rectangular noise-like pulse (NLP) and the Gaussian-shape NLP in a figure-eight fiber laser. Benefiting from the strengthened nonlinear effect of a segment of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) in the cavity, the coexistent NLPs with various patterns, i.e. one rectangular pulse with one Gaussian-shape pulse, one rectangular pulse with two Gaussian-shape pulses and two rectangular pulses with one Gaussian-shape pulse, are formed depending on the cavity parameters setting. In particular, the evolution of these coexistent NLPs properties with pump power is investigated. It is found that the duration of the rectangular pulse always increases, while the Gaussian-shape pulse has almost no changes with the increasing pump power. The achieved results demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, the pulses with different shapes can coexist under the NLP regime, which contributes to further understanding the fundamental characteristics of the NLPs and multiple pulses.

RESUMO

CONTEXT: The aim in treating ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is to reduce patients' symptoms, including pain, stiffness, and fatigue; to correct their posture; and to improve their quality of life. Currently, no definitive therapy is available for treating AS. Previous studies have reported positive results regarding the efficacy of exercise. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of ultrasound, combined with exercise, in patients with AS. DESIGN: The research team designed a randomized, double-blind, 2-arm parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial. SETTING: The study took place at the Affiliated Hongqi Hospital of Mudanjiang Medical University (Mudanjiang, China). PARTICIPANTS: Participants were 62 individuals with AS who were patients at the hospital. INTERVENTION: Participants were randomly assigned to one of 2 groups: (1) the intervention group, who received exercise and ultrasound therapy; or (2) the control group, who received exercise and placebo ultrasound therapy, without an active probe, both for 8 wk. OUTCOME MEASURES: The outcome measures included (1) the numerical rating scale (NRS), (2) the Bath ankylosing spondylitis metrology index (BASMI), (3) the Bath ankylosing spondylitis disease activity index (BASDAI), (4) the Bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index (BASFI), and (5) the ankylosing spondylitis quality of life (ASQoL) questionnaire. All outcomes were measured at baseline and at the end of 4 and 8 wk of treatment. RESULT: Fifty-seven patients fulfilled the requirements of the study. Ultrasound and exercise therapy showed greater efficacy than the placebo ultrasound and exercise in decreasing the scores for the NRS, daily and at night; the BASMI; the BASDAI; the BASFI; and the ASQoL, at the end of both 4 and 8 wk of treatment. No adverse events were noted in either group. CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrated that 8 wk of ultrasound and exercise therapy was efficacious in patients with AS.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: In this study, we elucidated the effects of berberine, a major alkaloid component contained in medicinal herbs, such as Phellodendri Cortex and Coptidis Rhizoma, on expression of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in a human retinal pigment epithelial cell line (ARPE-19) caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. METHODS: ARPE-19 cells were cultured to confluence. Berberine and LPS were added to the medium. MCP-1 and IL-8 mRNA were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction. MCP-1 and IL-8 protein concentrations in the media were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: After stimulation with LPS, MCP-1 and IL-8 mRNA in ARPE-19 cells reached maximum levels at 3 h, and MCP-1 and IL-8 protein in the culture media reached maximum levels at 24 h. Berberine dose-dependently inhibited MCP-1 and IL-8 mRNA expression of the cells and protein levels in the media stimulated with LPS. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that berberine inhibited the expression of MCP-1 and IL-8 induced by LPS.

RESUMO

We demonstrate a tunable and switchable dual-waveband 100 GHz high-repetition-rate (HRR) ultrafast fiber laser based on dissipative four-wave-mixing (DFWM) mode-locked technique. Each waveband maintains HRR operation. The DFWM effect was realized by combining a Fabry-Perot (F-P) filter and a piece of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF). The tunable and switchable operations were achieved by nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) technique. Through appropriately controlling the filtering effect induced by NPR, the laser could operate at two kinds of tunable regimes. One is that the spacing between these two wavebands could be tuned while keeping their center at 1559 nm. The other is that the central position of the entire dual-waveband is tunable while with the same separation between these two wavebands of 13.2 nm. Moreover, the laser could switch between these two wavebands. Correspondingly, the center of the single-waveband has a tuning range of 15.2 nm. This versatile ultrafast fiber laser may find applications in fields of optical frequency combs, high speed optical communications, where HRR pulses are necessary.
