High fat diet (HFD) prompts metabolic pattern inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in mitochondria thereby triggering multitude of chronic disorders in human. Antioxidants from plant sources may be an imperative remedy against this disorder. However, it requires scientific validation. In this study, we explored if (i) Moringa oleifera seed extract (MoSE) can neutralize ROS generated in HFD fed mice; (ii) protect cell-nuclei damage developed by Fenton reaction in vitro. Swiss mice were fed with HFD to develop oxidative stress model (HFD group). Other groups were control, seed extract alone treated, and MoSE simultaneously (HS) treated. Treatment period was of 15 days. Antioxidant enzymes with tissue nitrite content (TNC) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) were estimated from liver homogenate. HS group showed significantly higher (P < 0.05) superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), reduced glutathione (GSH) activity, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) compared to only HFD fed group. Further, TNC and LPO decreased significantly (P < 0.05) in HS group compared to HFD fed group. MoSE also protected hepatocytes nuclei from the hydroxyl radicals generated by Fenton reaction. MoSE was found to be polyphenol rich with potent reducing power, free radicals and hydroxyl radicals scavenging activity. Thus, MoSE exhibited robust antioxidant prospective to neutralize ROS developed in HFD fed mice and also protected the nuclei damage from hydroxyl radicals. Hence, it can be used as herbal medication against HFD induced ROS mediated disorders.

High fat diet group showed a significant rise in serum and hepatic total cholesterol, triglyceride and atherogenic index which are major biomarkers of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk. The liver function markers, lipid peroxidation and proinflammatory cytokine levels were elevated in high fat diet group whereas antioxidant levels significantly reduced. These findings manifest hepatic damage which was further confirmed by histological findings. Quercetin and beta-sitosterol though structurally different yet both ameliorate the sickening changes in different mechanism. The current investigation is perhaps the first report of the mechanistic role of two polyphenols over dyslipidemia and subsequent hepatotoxicity.

Coastal mangroves have been lost to deforestation for anthropogenic activities such as agriculture over the past two decades. The genesis of methane (CH4), a significant greenhouse gas (GHG) with a high potential for global warming, occurs through these mangrove beds. The mangrove forests in the Indian Sundarban deltaic region were studied for pre-monsoonal and post-monsoonal variations of CH4 emission. Considering the importance of CH4 emission, a process-based spatiotemporal (PBS) and an analytical neural network (ANN) model were proposed and used to estimate the amount of CH4 emission from different land use land cover classes (LULC) of mangroves. The field work was performed in 2020, and gas samples of various LULC were directly collected from the mangrove bed using the enclosed box chamber method. Historical climatic data (1960-1989) were used to predict future climate scenarios and associated CH4 emissions. The analysis and estimation activities were carried out utilizing satellite images from the pre-monsoonal and post-monsoonal seasons of the same year. The study revealed that pre-monsoonal CH4 emission was higher in the south-west and northern parts of the deforested mangrove of the Indian Sundarban. A sensitivity study of the anticipated models was conducted using a variety of environmental input parameters and related main field observations. The measured precision area under curve of receiver operating characteristics was 0.753 for PBS and 0.718 for ANN models, respectively. The temperature factor (Tf) was the most crucial variable for CH4 emissions. Based on the PBS model with coupled model intercomparison project-6 temperature data, a global circulation model was run to predict increasing CH4 emissions up to 2100. The model revealed that the agricultural lands were the prime emitters of CH4 in the Sundarban mangrove ecosystem.

Contamination of freshwater wetlands with toxic heavy metals and metalloids is a significant public health concern. Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most common heavy metals affecting water bodies and fish. In the Dankuni wetland (DW) ecosystem in India, variations in Cd concentration from the aquatic system to different fish tissues have been investigated. Channa punctata is an easily accessible fish with a high nutritional value, and offers a good economic return for the fishermen of West Bengal. A dynamic model was constructed considering the importance of the Cd concentration in the water of the wetland system and different fish tissues. A sensitivity analysis was performed to assess the valuable contribution of different parameters that determine the dynamics of Cd concentration in a wetland aquatic environment. The observed data is used to verify the model simulation performance. To predict the effects of Cd on humans, a survey of fish consumers was conducted around DW. Individuals living near DW, on low income (<5,000 INR) and over the age of fifty, were at high risk of Cd contamination. Their average daily intake rate was quite high (2.48×10-5 mg kg-1 day-1) and the hazard quotient calculated for these individuals was also high (0.024). People over age of 50 years had renal, cardiovascular, and osteological diseases with disease percentages of 56%, 46%, and 45%, respectively. Data on Cd-related health problems were collected from Cd-associated and non-Cd-associated individuals residing in the periphery of DW. The system-sensitive parameter was the rate of Cd entry into the water system (C Inp rt). If the Cd level is checked at the entrance of the reservoir by management policy; the risk of Cd contamination to human may be minimized in this area.

In the present study, the intermolecular interactions between a water-insoluble phospholipid (DOPC) and water-soluble protein (myoglobin) and the interaction among themselves were investigated at the air-water interface using the Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett techniques. The effects of changes in physicochemical factors, like pH and temperature, on these interactions were also examined. Surface pressure-molecular area (π-A) isotherms of the DOPC monolayer at the air-water interface, with and without myoglobin (Myo) revealed the evolution of various physical properties, such as elastic, thermodynamic, and hysteric properties, in response to changes in subphase pH and temperature. With the increment of subphase pH from 5 to 7 at a fixed temperature (20 °C), the DOPC isotherm expanded, and the in-plane elasticity (CS-1) decreased, but no significant presence of hysteresis was encountered in either of the pH values. On the other hand, a diminution of temperature (from 20 to 5 °C) leads to an expansion of monolayers yielding low elasticity and significant hysteresis. The incorporation of Myo molecules within the DOPC monolayer decreased the CS-1 value of the DOPC monolayer. Such a decrement in CS-1 was also encountered while increasing the pH and decreasing the temperature (T) of the subphase in the absence of Myo. Systematic expansion of DOPC isotherm and increased hysteric area with the increase in Myo proportion were observed and the atomic force microscopy (AFM) observations suggested a strong conjugation between Myo and DOPC in the mixed monolayer. The denaturation effect of Myo molecules was studied using AFM at different temperatures. Furthermore, the Myo molecules were found to be most surface active at pH = 7, which is very close to its isoelectric point. These observations come up with the interaction mechanism between biomolecules under dynamically varied conditions.

Consumption of high-fat diet (HFD) induces nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and may lead to multiple complications affecting human health. In the present study, effect of Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MoLE) in alleviating HFD induced liver injury in mice has been reported. Liver histology and serum activity of hepatic marker enzymes i.e. aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) have been studied. Lipid peroxidation (LPO), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were also estimated using liver homogenate. Results of the study suggested that MoLE treatment protected HFD-induced liver damage as indicated by histopathology and liver enzyme activity compared to only-HFD fed group (P < 0.05). Interestingly, early signs of HFD-induced fatty liver were also alleviated by MoLE. Moreover, significant increase in endogenous antioxidant parameters and lower lipid peroxidation were found in liver of all MoLE treated groups. Results of the study indicated that MoLE has both preventive as also curative hepatoprotective activity.

The interaction of a heterocyclic azo compound with itself and with bovine serum albumin (BSA) is realized by probing the structural modifications in Langmuir (L) monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. It was found from the pressure-area/molecule isotherms that the elastic, thermodynamic, and hysteretic properties of the pure azo L monolayer were strongly altered due to the variation of temperature and pH of subphase water. In addition to that, the modification of such properties of the azo L monolayer due to mixing with BSA was also studied. The incorporation of BSA within the azo molecular assembly reduced the elasticity of that assembly. Such reduction of in-plane elasticity of the pure azo monolayer can also be achieved by reducing the temperature and pH of subphase water without adding BSA. A reduction in area per molecule of the azo assembly at the air-water interface associated with the conformational change from horizontal to vertical orientation facilitating π-π interaction was observed with increase in temperature and pH of the subphase. Such parameters also affected the interactions between azo and BSA molecules within the azo/BSA binary system. The structures of pure azo and binary films can be determined after they are transferred to hydrophilic and hydrophobic Si surfaces using the LB technique. Their out-of-plane and in-plane structures, as extracted from two complementary surface sensitive techniques, X-ray reflectivity and atomic force microscopy, were found to be strongly dependent on mixing with BSA, subphase pH, temperature, and substrate nature.

Few studies have examined dietary patterns in relation to cardiovascular risk factors in Asian populations, particularly in India. The present study was undertaken to explore dietary patterns in a general urban Bengalee population of women in West Bengal, India, and their association with cardiovascular risk factors. We performed a cross-sectional study of 701 women (aged 35 years and above) selected by cluster sampling from twelve different wards of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Kolkata, India). The following three major dietary patterns were identified: the 'vegetable, fruits and pulses' pattern (characterised by higher intakes of dark-yellow and green leafy vegetables, sweets, fruits, pulses, nuts, poultry and eggs, and lower intake of mustard oil); the 'hydrogenated and saturated fat and vegetable oil' pattern (characterised by higher intakes of butter, hydrogenated oil, ghee, vegetable oil, mustard oil, condiments, sweets, fish, high-fat dairy and refined grain); the 'red meat and high-fat dairy' pattern (characterised by higher intakes of red meat, high-fat dairy products, whole grain, high-energy drinks and condiments, and lower intakes of fish, refined grain and low-fat dairy products). The vegetable, fruits and pulses pattern was inversely associated with serum total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol and non-HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations (P < 0·05 for all). The hydrogenated and saturated fat and vegetable oil pattern was positively associated with BMI, waist circumference (WC) and HDL-C concentration (P < 0·05 for all). In this Bengalee population, these three major dietary patterns were observed, and the dietary patterns were independently associated with BMI, WC and serum TC concentrations in women.

Osteoporosis is one of the major health problems worldwide. It is characterized by increased bone fragility and loss of bone matter due to the action of osteoclast cells, which are associated with modified hormone levels and factors such as aging. Bisphosphonates are the primary treatment for osteoporosis. Apart from bisphosphonates, hormone therapy, calcitonin treatment, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), and strontium ranelate (SR) are some of the other treatments available for osteoporosis. However, these treatments have some side effects, such as oily skin, fluid retention, nausea, long-term toxicity, and even prostate cancer in males, and thus natural therapies that incur fewer side effects are sought. Phytochemicals, antioxidants, and other plant-based bioactives are important in the human diet. They are abundant in fruits and help against various chronic diseases, including bone disorders. Other providers of these important compounds are the medicinal plant parts. In this article, we highlight the various species of plants and herbs that are useful for the treatment of osteoporosis. The prospect of using these plant-based bioactives in amelioration of osteoporosis as an alternative to hormonal and synthetic drug-based therapy is also discussed.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a class of carbon allotropes with interesting properties that make them productive materials for usage in various disciplines of nanotechnology such as in electronics equipments, optics and therapeutics. They exhibit distinguished properties viz., strength, and high electrical and heat conductivity. Their uniqueness can be attributed due to the bonding pattern present between the atoms which are very strong and also exhibit high extreme aspect ratios. CNTs are classified as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the basis of number of sidewalls present and the way they are arranged spatially. Application of CNTs to improve the performance of many products, especially in healthcare, has led to an occupational and public exposure to these nanomaterials. Hence, it becomes a major concern to analyze the issues pertaining to the toxicity of CNTs and find the best suitable ways to counter those challenges. This review summarizes the toxicity issues of CNTs in vitro and in vivo in different organ systems (bio interphases) of the body that result in cellular toxicity.

Amputation is one of the serious issue across the globe which is mainly caused by trauma, medical illness or congenital condition. Because of steep increase in amputation incidences, the need for progress in technicality of prosthesis is becoming imperative. In this article, the journey of advancements in upper arm prosthesis has been discussed step by step. Moreover, it has also been enunciated that how from a simple replacement for an arm it now has reached the mark of giving a patient a fully functional limb with the help of sensors and myoelectric transducers that are able to translate the remaining muscle signals into full movement of the prosthesis. However, researches are still going on to make the design of the prosthetic more impressive having better range of movement, to establish its interface with brain more efficiently and to make the control of prosthetic more user friendly. In this review, a special emphasis has also been given to myoelectric prosthesis as this prosthetic system possesses a decisive influence on rehabilitation results. Moreover, this prosthetic system is extremely elegant and cutting-edge in both design and technology and offers a great wearer comfort.

Camelina sativa L. Crantz is under development as a novel oilseed crop, yet bioefficacy of camelina phytochemicals is unknown. Defatted camelina seed meal contains two major aliphatic glucosinolates (GSLs), glucoarabin (9-(methylsulfinyl)nonylglucosinolate; GSL 9) and glucocamelinin (10-(methylsulfinyl)decylglucosinolate; GSL 10), with traces of a third, 11(methylsulfinyl)undecylglucosinolate and several flavonoids, mostly quercetin glycosides. In Hepa1c1c7 cells, hydrolyzed GSLs (hGSLs) 9 and 10 upregulated the phase II detoxification enzyme quinone reductase (NQO1), with no effect on cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A1 activity. Isobologram graphs revealed synergy of NQO1 induction for a combination of hGSL 9 and quercetin. These findings suggest that defatted camelina seed meal should be evaluated for anticancer activity, similar to broccoli and other Brassicaceae family members. Interestingly, synergy of NQO1 induction was also seen for physiologically relevant doses of sulforaphane (SF) and quercetin, two key bioactives present in broccoli. This suggests that SF within broccoli may be more potent than purified SF.

The present study demonstrates for the first time the protective role of two common flavonoids, quercetin and its glycone rutin, against high cholesterol diet (2%) induced hepatotoxicity and inflammation. Swiss albino mice were given either a standard laboratory diet (control), high cholesterol diet (HCD) or high cholesterol diet along with quercetin or rutin (100 mg kg(-1) body weight) in their respective groups. The HCD mice exhibited a gain in body weight, significant rise in serum and hepatic level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, liver function enzymes, lipid peroxidation, and pro-inflammatory cytokines (P < 0.05). Histopathological studies showed hepatic fat accumulation and tissue disintegration. There was significant depletion of major hepatic antioxidants (P < 0.05). Immunoblot studies revealed a high expression of redox sensitive transcription factors NF-κB and TNF-α. A subsequent rise in the mRNA expression of inflammatory markers like C reactive protein and inducible nitric oxide synthase 2 were also found from the RT-PCR study. Simultaneous treatment with quercetin or rutin along with HCD significantly prevented the gains in body weight, lipid level, liver function enzymes, lipid peroxidation level and expression of inflammatory markers. The restoration of hepatic antioxidant homeostasis and hepatic morphology has also been observed. Hence, the present study illustrates the hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of two similar flavonoids.

Consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) promotes reactive oxygen species (ROS) which ultimately trigger inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MoLE) and its active component quercetin in preventing NF-κB-mediated inflammation raised by short-term HFD. Quercetin was found to be one of the major flavonoid components from HPLC of MoLE. Swiss mice were fed for 15 days on HFD, both with or without MoLE/quercetin. The antioxidant profile was estimated from liver homogenate. NF-κB and some relevant inflammatory markers were evaluated by immunoblotting, RT-PCR and ELISA. Significantly (P < 0.05) lower antioxidant profile and higher lipid peroxidation was found in HFD group compared to control (P < 0.05). Increased nuclear import of NF-κB and elevated expressions of pro-inflammatory markers were further manifestations in the HFD group. All these changes were reversed in the MoLE/quercetin-treated groups with significant improvement of antioxidant activity compared to the HFD group. MoLE was found to be rich in polyphenols and both MoLE and quercetin showed potent free radical and hydroxyl radical quenching activity. Thus, the present study concluded that short-term treatment with MoLE and its constituent quercetin prevent HFD-mediated inflammation in mice.

Hypertension is a major public health problem worldwide. However, limited information is available regarding the risk factors for hypertension in postmenopausal women, particularly in urban populations in developing countries such as India. To investigate whether adiposity measures, serum lipids and lipoproteins as well as fasting plasma glucose can predict the risk of hypertension in a population based sample of postmenopausal women in Kolkata, India, we conducted a cross-sectional study of 415 postmenopausal women (aged 40 to 85), selected by cluster sampling from 12 wards of Kolkata. After multivariate adjustment, apolipoprotein B (apo B) and waist circumference (WC) showed the strongest association with hypertension. The risk of hypertension in the highest tertile compared with the lowest tertile was 2.57 (95% confidence interval = 1.00-6.61) for apo B and 2.55 (95% confidence interval = 1.07-6.06) for WC. Apo B and WC were the strongest risk factors for predicting hypertension among postmenopausal women in Kolkata.

AIMS: The present study evaluated a comparative and combined hepatoprotective effect of atorvastatin (AS) and ferulic acid (F) against high fat diet (HFD) induced oxidative stress in terms of hyperlipidemia, anti-oxidative status, lipid peroxidation and inflammation. MAIN METHODS: Male Swiss albino mice were given a diet containing high fat (H) (23.9% wt/wt), supplemented with AS (10mg/kg) or F (100mg/kg) and both (10 and 100mg/kg) for 8weeks. The control mice (C) were fed with normal diet. KEY FINDINGS: The H mice exhibited increased body weight; hyperlipidemia; serum level of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6); hepatic lipid profile; lipid accumulation; reactive oxygen species (ROS) of hepatocytes, lipid peroxidation and liver antioxidant capacity was decreased. Immunofluorescent and Western blot assay revealed activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway. The addition of F or AS and both in the diet significantly counteracted HFD induced body weight gain; hyperlipidemia; TNF-α, IL-6; hepatic lipid profile; fatty infiltration; NF-κB signaling pathway; ROS; lipid peroxidation and moreover elevated levels of hepatic antioxidant enzymes activity were observed. SIGNIFICANCE: Simultaneous treatment with AS, F and their combination protected against HFD induced weight gain and oxidative stress. The protection may be attributed to the hypolipidemic and free radical scavenging activity of AS or F and their combination. This study illustrates that AS and F have relatively similar hypolipidemic, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory actions and the AS+F combination along with HFD has shown outstanding effects as compared to other treated groups.

In The Concept of Mind, Ryle's official position seems to be that mental acts cannot be intrinsically private. In The Concept of Mind as well as his later work on thinking, Ryle views thinking as an activity that terminates in a thought, which is a state of being prepared for a performance. Thinking is characterised by what Ryle calls intention-parasitism; for it is, insofar as its underlying motive is concerned, parasitic on the final performance which will take place later. Ryle shows that acts of thinking, owing to their intention-parasitism, can be described in a tactical idiom, with reference to the final performance for which it was intended. However, this framework of intention-parasitism is not adequate to describe all instances of thinking in all their aspects, which therefore remain inextricably private. The task of this paper is to accommodate such privacy within the theoretical framework suggested in The Concept of Mind.

BACKGROUND: Recent research has focused on the use of inflammatory biomarkers in the prediction of cardiovascular risk. However, information is scant regarding the association between these inflammatory markers with other cardiovascular risk factors in Asian Indians, particularly in women. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between inflammatory markers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and white blood cell (WBC) count and cardiovascular risk factors such as overall and central adiposity, blood pressure, lipid and lipoprotein variables and fasting glucose. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis on 100 women aged 35-80 years. Participants were selected following cluster sampling methodology from 12 different randomly selected urban wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation. RESULTS: Hs-CRP has a significant association with body mass index (BMI) ( p < 0.001) and waist circumference (WC) (p = 0.002). Significant inverse associations were observed between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and both inflammatory markers, hs-CRP (p = 0.031) and WBC count, (p = 0.014). Apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) was also negatively associated with hs-CRP. WBC count has significant correlation with fasting glucose and total cholesterol (TC) /HDL-C ratio. Using logistic regression, adjusting for age, BMI (odds ratio/OR, 1.186; confidence interval/CI, 1.046-1.345; p = 0.008) and WC (OR, 1.045; CI, 1.005-1.087; p = 0.027) were the covariates significantly associated with hs-CRP. CONCLUSION: In the present study, risk factors like BMI, WC, and HDL-C and apo A1 show significant association with hs-CRP. WBC count was significantly correlated with HDL-C, fasting glucose, TC/HDL-C ratio in women.

FUNDAMENTO: Recentes pesquisas tem se concentrado no uso de biomarcadores inflamatórios na previsão de risco cardiovascular. Entretanto, a informação é escassa em relação à associação entre esses marcadores inflamatórios com outros fatores de risco cardiovasculares em indianos asiáticos, particularmente em mulheres. OBJETIVO: Explorar a associação entre marcadores inflamatórios tais como proteína C-reativa de alta sensibilidade (PCR-as) e contagem de leucócitos (LEU) e fatores de risco cardiovascular tais como adiposidade geral e central, pressão arterial, variáveis lipídicas e lipoproteicas e glicemia de jejum. MÉTODOS: Conduzimos uma análise transversal de 100 mulheres com idade entre 35-80 anos. As participantes foram selecionadas através da metodologia de amostragem por cluster, de 12 distritos urbanos selecionadas ao acaso na Corporação Municipal de Kolkata, Índia. RESULTADOS: A PCR-as apresentou uma associação significante com o índice de massa corporal (IMC) (p < 0,001) e circunferência da cintura (CC) (p = 0,002). Associações significantes inversas foram observadas entre a lipoproteína de alta densidade colesterol (HDL-c) e ambos marcadores inflamatórios PCR-as (p = 0,031) e LEU (p = 0,014). A apo-lipoproteína A1 (Apo A1) também estava negativamente associada com a PCR-as. A contagem de leucócitos apresentou uma correlação significante com a glicemia de jejum e a razão colesterol total (CT) /HDL-C. Usando regressão logística ajustada para idade, IMC (odds ratio/OR, 1,186; intervalo de confiança/IC, 1,046-1,345; p=0,008) e LEU (OR, 1,045; IC, 1,005-1,087; p=0,027) foram as covariantes significantemente associadas com a PCR-as. CONCLUSÃO: No presente estudo, os fatores de risco tais como IMC, CC e HDL-c e Apo-A1 mostraram uma associação significante com PCR-as. A contagem de leucócitos estava significantemente associada com os níveis de HDL-c, glicemia de jejum, razão CT/HDL-c em mulheres.

Entre tanto, la información es escasa en relación a la asociación entre esos marcadores inflamatorios con otros factores de riesgo cardiovasculares en indios asiáticos, particularmente en mujeres. OBJETIVO: Explorar la asociación entre marcadores inflamatorios tales como proteína C-reactiva de alta sensibilidad (PCR-as) y recuento de leucocitos (LEU) y factores de riesgo cardiovascular tales como adiposidad general y central, presión arterial, variables lipídicas y lipoproteicas y glucemia de ayuno. MÉTODOS: Condujimos un análisis transversal de 100 mujeres con edad entre 35-80 años. Las participantes fueron seleccionadas a través de la metodología de muestreo por cluster, de 12 distritos urbanos seleccionadas al azar en la Corporación Municipal de Kolkata, India. RESULTADOS: La PCR-as presentó una asociación significativa con el índice de masa corporal (IMC) (r=0,373, p<0,001) y circunferencia de la cintura (CCI) (r=0,301, p=0,002). Asociaciones significativas inversas fueron observadas entre la lipoproteína de alta densidad colesterol (HDL-c) y ambos marcadores inflamatorios (r= -0,220, p=0,031 y r= -0,247, p=0,014 para PCR-as y LEU, respectivamente). La apo-lipoproteína A1 (Apo A1) también estaba negativamente asociada con la PCR-as (r= -0,237, p=0,031). El recuento de leucocitos presentó una correlación significativa con la glucemia de ayuno (r=0,253, p=0,011) y la razón colesterol total (CT) /HDL-C (r=0,284, p=0,004). Usando regresión logística ajustada para edad, IMC (odds ratio/OR, 1,186; intervalo de confianza/IC, 1,046-1,345; p=0,008) y LEU (OR, 1,045; IC, 1,005-1,087; p=0,027) fueron las covariantes significativamente asociadas con la PCR-as.
