RESUMO

Maxillary sinus floor elevation, via the lateral approach, is one of the most predictable bone augmentation procedures performed in implant dentistry. but both intra- and postoperative complications can occur, and some of them are severe. Our aim is as follows: To review the pertinent literature on the topic, especially assessing the risk factors related to complications. To give clinical recommendations to minimize intra- and postoperative complications with the ultimate scope of improving the standard of clinical care and patient safety.

RESUMO

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is a severe blockage in the arteries of the lower extremities. However, the effective and optimal treatment for CLI remains to be elucidated. Previous therapeutic research is mainly focused on proangiogenic growth factors administrations. Recently, miR-21 has been revealed to play a crucial role in angiogenesis. Thus, we hypothesize that miR-21 over-expression in human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCBMSCs) can effectively treat CLI. Herein, UCBMSCs were transduced with lentivirus-miR-21-Luciferase (Lenti-miR-21) or lentivirus- LacZ-Luciferase (Lenti-LacZ). The results indicated that miR-21 induced UCBMSCs proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis in vitro. Subsequently, general observation and laser Doppler perfusion imaging were introduced to detect perfusion in muscles of CLI-nude mice on 1, 4, 7, 14, and 28 day postoperation. There was a significant improvement in blood vessels of the ischemic limb in Lenti-miR-21 group at 7 day compared with the saline or Lenti-LacZ groups. At 28 day, histological analysis confirmed that UCBMSCs over-expressing miR-21 increased neovascularization in CLI. Furthermore, carboxyl terminus of Hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) was found to be the target gene for miR-21-mediated activation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) in UCBMSCs. In summary, our study demonstrated that over-expressing miR-21 in UCBMSCs could improve neovascularization in CLI through enhancing HIF-1α activity by targeting CHIP, which may hold great therapeutic promise in treating CLI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Accurate identification of nonverbal emotional cues is essential to successful social interactions, yet most research is limited to emotional face expression labeling. Little research focuses on the processing of emotional prosody, or tone of verbal speech, in clinical populations. METHODS: Using the Diagnostic Analysis of Nonverbal Accuracy, the current study examined whether youths with pediatric-onset bipolar disorder (BD) and/or those with chronic and severe irritability (i.e. the severe mood dysregulation phenotype) are impaired in their ability to identify the emotional prosody of a spoken sentence with neutral content. RESULTS: Youths with severe mood dysregulation (n = 67) performed more poorly than healthy comparison children (n = 57), even when the sample was limited to unmedicated patients. Medicated BD youths (n = 52) exhibited impairment relative to healthy comparison children. No interactions between group and emotion were observed, suggesting that emotional prosody labeling problems may represent a general deficit in chronically irritable youths and in medicated youths with BD. CONCLUSION: In concert with previously documented facial emotion labeling deficits, difficulties ascertaining the correct emotional tone of a spoken sentence may contribute to emotion dysregulation in chronically irritable children, and possibly also in youths with BD.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This literature review is to evaluate current research articles pertinent to physical therapy treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. Osteoarthritis of the knee is an increasingly common diagnosis, with a prognosis that can lead to loss in an individual's functional abilities. Literature on the subject of OA and its physical therapy treatment is vast and current, however, obtaining and analyzing it can be time consuming and costly to a Physical Therapist. The primary aim of this paper is to review current trends for treatment of OA of the knee, and to compare each intervention for effectiveness. This article provides a systematic categorization as well as recommendations for physical therapists based on current (1996 or sooner) literature. METHODS: Twenty-two articles were located using various online databases, critically analyzed, and categorized using Sackett's levels of evidence. Recommendations for the treatment of OA of the knee by a physical therapist were then made. RESULTS: Two grade A recommendations, 5 grade B recommendation, and 2 grade C recommendations were made from the categorization of the articles. This article also contains recommendations outside the scope of a therapist's practice, which a physical therapist could consider when treating a patient with knee osteoarthritis. Further research recommendations are also provided.
