RESUMO

PURPOSE: Variation of dimensions of the nasopalatine canal and anterior maxillary bone thickness vary in relation to age, gender, edentulism, and ethnicity; thorough knowledge with regard to these landmarks is of vital importance prior to surgical procedures such as implant placement and local anesthesia in the anterior maxilla. Cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) aids in accurate treatment planning in such situations. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 300 participants were selected by the inclusion and exclusion criteria. CBCT was performed with Hyperion X9 CBCT Scanner. Images were reconstructed from the CBCT data using NNT image reconstruction software and visualized using multi-planar resolution screen. The dimensions of the nasopalatine foramen (NPF), the incisive canal (IC) and foramen, and anterior maxillary bone thickness were measured. RESULTS: The mean diameter of NPF was found to be 3.27 mm, incisive foramen (IF) was 3.62 mm, IC was 2.12 mm. The average length of the IC was 10.66 mm. The IF was located at a mean distance of 13.81 mm away from the most anteroinferior point of the cortical plate of the labial bone of the maxilla. The anterior maxillary bone was the thickest at the nasal spine level (10.94 mm), and was the narrowest at lower labial alveolus (7.16 mm). The average anterior maxillary bone thickness was found to be 8.36 mm. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of the study, it was found that found that gender and age are important factors that affected the characteristics of the IC and the amount of bone anterior to it.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder that usually affects joints and making them warm, painful, and swollen. The chief purpose of this study was to evaluate movements of mandible in geriatric patients suffering from RA with or without temporomandibular joint dysfunction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 45 people were included in this study with age of 60 years and above. Partially or completely edentulous patients were divided into experimental and control group. Experimental group consists of 20 people suffering from arthritis and control group consists of 25 people without arthritis. Movements were recorded with or without prosthesis while mastication in both experimental and control group. RESULTS: Statistical evaluation of two studied groups showed decrease opening angle (p < 0.05) during mastication; however, insertion of new prosthesis showd a significant increase in values in both groups, with an increase in opening and closing angles. CONCLUSION: Positive correlation was found between arthritis and movements of the mandible in older people suffering from RA. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Patients suffering from RA are having restricted mandibular movements thus imposing an overall negative impact however; presence of prosthesis has been shown to enforce a positive effect on mandibular movement.

INTRODUCTION: Alginate is a versatile, irreversible hydrocolloid impression material, which is cost-effective and forms an essential component in dental practice. For elevating the hardness of the cast models, hardeners are combined with stone. Hence, we planned the present study to evaluate the impact of altering the time of contact between alginate and stone after various interim periods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study included the assessment of impact of time of contact between alginate and stone by the construction of 90 casts using a cylinder model. Two bisecting lines were marked and were named as y and y'. These lines were used for testing the dimensional stability. Using chemically cured acrylic resin, the construction of ten special trays was done. All the impression casts were randomly divided into two study groups, with 45 casts in each group-group I: control group, casts were removed after 60 minutes; group II: study group, casts were removed after 9 hours. A digital caliper was used for measuring the dimensional stability of the cast. All the data were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: In the specimens of the control group (group I) and the study group (group II), the mean dimensions from y to y' were found to be 17.54 and 17.95 respectively. The mean reading of hardness in the control group and study group was found to be 0.59 and 0.20 respectively. In groups I and II, the number of specimens showing clarity of two lines (X and X") was 0 and 5 respectively. CONCLUSION: There was no change in the dimensional stability of the dental stone model when the contact time was increased. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Within certain limits, the contact time between alginate and stone can be altered without significantly altering the properties of the cast.

This case report presents the clinical and technical aspects of fabricating and rehabilitating a patient with a custom-designed ocular prosthesis following enucleation due to ocular malignancy. The report details the patient's history, clinical examination, and the step-by-step process of prosthesis fabrication. The aim is to highlight the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach involving ophthalmologists and maxillofacial prosthodontists in providing optimal esthetic and functional outcomes for patients with ocular defects.

Background: Dental implant peri-implant mucositis is a prevalent complication that can lead to implant failure if left untreated. Various management techniques have been proposed, but their comparative effectiveness remains unclear of dental implant peri-implant mucositis. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 patients with peri-implant mucositis were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups: Group A received mechanical debridement alone, Group B received mechanical debridement with adjunctive antiseptic mouthwash, Group C underwent laser therapy, and Group D received a combination of mechanical debridement and systemic antibiotics. Clinical parameters, including bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and plaque index (PI), were recorded at baseline and after a three-month follow-up period. Results: At the three-month follow-up, significant improvements were observed in all treatment groups. However, Group D, which received a combination of mechanical debridement and systemic antibiotics, showed the most substantial reduction in BOP (mean reduction of 78.2%), PPD (mean reduction of 2.5 mm), and PI (mean reduction of 1.7). Group C, treated with laser therapy, demonstrated the second-best outcomes with a mean reduction of 65.4% in BOP, 2.0 mm in PPD, and 1.3 in PI. Groups A and B showed moderate improvements, with no statistically significant differences between them. Conclusion: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) suggests that a combination of mechanical debridement and systemic antibiotics (Group D) is the most effective treatment for managing dental implant peri-implant mucositis, yielding superior clinical outcomes compared to other techniques.

Introduction: In many oral procedures that involve the implants, hair implantations, "Platelet-Rich Fibrin Membrane (PRF)" is commonly applied. The advantages are many. In this study, the mechanical resistance of PRF under resistance pull on a longitudinal axis was assessed and compared. Material and Methods: For the current in vitro study, 60 volunteers donated each 10 ml of their blood and hence a total volume of 600 ml of blood was procured that was analyzed for the current study. The total volume was grouped to three groups where they receive three resistance centrifugation forces of "F-200,600,800 m/s²." In each group, 20 samples were tested for each level of the G-resistance. Each group was further divided as two subgroups of different times of wait, where they were centrifuged at baseline time and after a stand of 30 minutes. On universal testing equipment, the PRF membranes were mechanically tensioned in order to determine each membrane's resistance force. These values were compared for any statistical variance using appropriate statistical tools keeping P < 0.05. Results: Any applied force had no statistically significant effect on the centrifugation duration for membrane resistance. When the resistance was applied for the PRP samples immediately after they were procured, no significant variation was seen at all the grades of the centrifugation forces; consequently, the T30 group showed a statistically significant variance for the centrifugation forces applied (P = 0.04), with the highest value when the greatest force was applied. According to the results, the centrifugation waiting period could be determined based on the application requirement. Conclusion: For immediate membrane usage, the centrifugation had no effect on resistance; however, after 30 minutes, a membrane with greater resistance was produced by applying more force.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Bone loss surrounding dental implant is an unavoidable phenomenon that occasionally leads to implant failure. Implant-related bone loss exhibits different patterns and rate as per oral milieu and hygiene habits. This study was aimed to clinically assess the crestal bone losses in the postoperative phase of single implant placed in mandibular first molar regions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present in vivo study was planned and completed on the patients selected from the Department of Prosthodontics of the institute. A total of twenty patients were selected randomly in which right mandibular first molar was rehabilitated by dental implants. All radiographic analysis was attempted by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). All twenty implants were placed by standard clinical protocols. CBCT analysis was attempted to measure existing bone levels on all four surfaces of implant. These measurements were completed at three different postoperative phases. Informed consent was obtained from all participating patients. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AND RESULTS: Statistical analysis was completed by statistical software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. P <0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Among all 20 patients, males were 14 and females were 6 in the age range of 25-45 years. Mean bone losses were in the range of 0.226-0.737 for Group I. Intergroup comparison by two-sample t-test showed a significant difference (0.01) for mesial surfaces. All mean values were maximum for mesial surfaces and minimum for lingual surfaces. CONCLUSION: The mean crestal bone loss at four implant surfaces evaluated at different postoperative phases was nonsignificant. However, there were significant differences in mean crestal bone loss at four surfaces of all studied implants in a particular group.

Loosening of lower denture has always been a common complaint of denture wearer, particularly in case of severe bone resorption. Various treatment modalities including preprosthetic surgery or ridge augmentation therapy to improve the ridge height and conventional implant treatments are available. But many patients are not willing to undergo through such extensive surgical procedure or conventional twin stage implant therapy owing to the chronic old age ailment and cost factor. So mini implant (SENDAX MDI) supported over denture is a boon for them who want a quick and minimally invasive solution, with a much lower cost. In this article we shall discuss the case report of a 60-year-old female patient with atropic mandibular ridge rehabilitated with MDI, (mini dental implant), Sendax mini implant.
