RESUMO

Based on the German original questionnaire of the "Hamburger modules for measuring generic aspects of psycho-social health in the therapeutic practice" (HEALTH-49) a Turkish speaking version (T-HEALTH-49) was cross-cultural sensitively developed. The psychometric properties have been analysed by means of a clinical sample of Turkish speaking patients (N=311). The questionnaire proves to be practical, the dimensional structure and the relatively independence of the modules have been confirmed by factor analysis. The single scales are characterised by satisfactory to high reliability and satisfactory validity. The T-HEALTH-49 considers adequately psychosocial aspects in diagnostic, therapy planning and quality assurance. The questionnaire can be downloaded for free (www.hamburger-module.de).

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The Frankfurt Network for Suicide Prevention (FRANS) documents the number of suicides in Frankfurt a. M., in order to determine precise and strategic prevention requirements. METHOD: Analysis of death certificates listing "suicide" as cause of death. Several data points are recorded: Sex, age, method, place and date of suicide, place of residence and place of birth. Further information is drawn from the local register of residents. RESULTS: The results show a relatively consistent number of about 90 suicides per year in Frankfurt a. M., considering the years from 2014 through 2017 the overall suicide rate slightly decreased from 12.84 to 12.68 per 100 000 inhabitants. The highest rates were found amongst the over 81 year-olds. The number of suicides was considerably higher for men than women. The most chosen method was death by hanging. CONCLUSION: These data facilitate more tailored, needs-based prevention measures.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to identify predictors of long-term weight loss after inpatient psychodynamic or behavioral psychotherapy of severely obese patients. METHODS: In a longitudinal study, obese patients [body mass index (BMI)>or=35 kg/m(2)] were randomly assigned to behavioral or psychodynamic inpatient treatment. The average treatment duration was 7 weeks. Two hundred sixty-seven obese patients, mostly female (85%), with psychiatric and somatic comorbidity (age, 20-64 years; BMI=35-74 kg/m(2)) were examined with standardized self-report scales at intake, discharge, 1-year follow-up, and 3-year follow-up. RESULTS: Overall, 3 years after inpatient psychotherapy, irrespective of treatment setting, we found an average weight loss of about 1 BMI unit (2% or 3 kg). Effect size for weight loss was small (ES=0.26); changes in body image were stronger (ES=0.56). About 32% of patients achieved a long-term weight loss of >5%. In multiple regressions, weight loss was predicted by the attribution of overweight to eating habits, low dominance (Inventory of Interpersonal Problems), low life satisfaction, higher initial weight loss, and higher self-efficacy. Weight loss maintenance was predicted by cognitive control and current physical activity on follow-up. CONCLUSION: In the long run, one third of patients could maintain or improve weight loss by inpatient psychotherapy. Lasting beneficial changes in body image and distress could also be found. The predictors of weight loss and weight loss maintenance identified in this study may be helpful for future modifications of psychotherapeutic intervention strategies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Deficits in emotion-regulation skills have been shown to be integral to the development and maintenance of a wide range of mental disorders. AIM: To evaluate the importance of these skills as a treatment target in psychotherapeutic interventions. METHOD: Nine specific emotion-regulation skills were assessed in a sample of 289 inpatients before and after cognitive-behavioural treatment. Self-reports of success in pretreatment skills application were first compared to those of 246 non-clinical controls. Pretreatment skills application and change in skills application during therapy were then related to a variety of outcome measures. Finally, the effects of integrating a brief training of general emotion-regulation skills into the CBT-based treatment were evaluated in a controlled trial. RESULTS: Uni- and multivariate analyses identified the skills of acceptance, tolerance, and active modification of negative emotions as particularly important for current mental health and treatment outcome. Replacing parts of the standard CBT treatment with the emotion-regulation training enhanced the effects of the CBT treatment on skills application and on other measures of mental health. CONCLUSION: Incorporating interventions that directly target general emotion-regulation skills may improve the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions.
