RESUMO

Micronuclear batteries harness energy from the radioactive decay of radioisotopes to generate electricity on a small scale, typically in the nanowatt or microwatt range1,2. Contrary to chemical batteries, the longevity of a micronuclear battery is tied to the half-life of the used radioisotope, enabling operational lifetimes that can span several decades3. Furthermore, the radioactive decay remains unaffected by environmental factors such as temperature, pressure and magnetic fields, making the micronuclear battery an enduring and reliable power source in scenarios in which conventional batteries prove impractical or challenging to replace4. Common radioisotopes of americium (241Am and 243Am) are α-decay emitters with half-lives longer than hundreds of years. Severe self-adsorption in traditional architectures of micronuclear batteries impedes high-efficiency α-decay energy conversion, making the development of α-radioisotope micronuclear batteries challenging5,6. Here we propose a micronuclear battery architecture that includes a coalescent energy transducer by incorporating 243Am into a luminescent lanthanide coordination polymer. This couples radioisotopes with energy transducers at the molecular level, resulting in an 8,000-fold enhancement in energy conversion efficiency from α decay energy to sustained autoluminescence compared with that of conventional architectures. When implemented in conjunction with a photovoltaic cell that translates autoluminescence into electricity, a new type of radiophotovoltaic micronuclear battery with a total power conversion efficiency of 0.889% and a power per activity of 139 microwatts per curie (µW Ci-1) is obtained.

RESUMO

The metal oxide electron transport layers (ETLs) of n-i-p perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are dominated by TiO2 and SnO2, while the efficacy of the other metal oxide ETLs still lags far behind. Herein, an emerging, economical, and environmentally friendly metal oxide, antimony oxide (Sb2Ox, x = 2.17), prepared by chemical bath deposition is reported as an alternative ETL for PSCs. The deposited Sb2Ox film is amorphous and very thin (∼10 nm) but conformal on rough fluorine-doped tin oxide substrates, showing matched energy levels, efficient electron extraction, and then reduced nonradiative recombination in PSCs. The champion PSC based on the Sb2Ox ETL delivers an impressive power conversion efficiency of 24.7% under one sun illumination, which represents the state-of-the-art performance of all metal oxide ETL-based PSCs. Additionally, the Sb2Ox-based devices show improved operational and thermal stability compared to their SnO2-based counterparts. Armed with these findings, we believe this work offers an optional ETL for perovskites-based optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Bismuth-based coordination complexes are advantageous over other metal complexes, as bismuth is the heaviest nontoxic element with high spin-orbit coupling and potential optoelectronics applications. Herein, four bismuth halide-based coordination complexes [Bi2Cl6(phen-thio)2] (1), [Bi2Br6(phen-thio)2] (2), [Bi2I6(phen-thio)2] (3), and [Bi2I6(phen-Me)2] (4) were synthesized, characterized, and subjected to detailed photophysical studies. The complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, and NMR studies. Spectroscopic analyses of 1-4 in solutions of different polarities were performed to understand the role of the organic and inorganic components in determining the ground- and excited-state properties of the complexes. The photophysical properties of the complexes were characterized by ground-state absorption, steady-state photoluminescence, microsecond time-resolved photoluminescence, and absorption spectroscopy. Periodic density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed on the solid-state structures to understand the role of the organic and inorganic parts of the complexes. The studies showed that changing the ancillary ligand from chlorine (Cl) and bromine (Br) to iodine (I) bathochromically shifts the absorption band along with enhancing the absorption coefficient. Also, changing the halides (Cl, Br to I) affects the photoluminescent quantum yields of the ligand-centered (LC) emissive state without markedly affecting the lifetimes. The combined results confirmed that ground-state properties are strongly influenced by the inorganic part, and the lower-energy excited state is LC. This study paves the way to design novel bismuth coordination complexes for optoelectronic applications by rigorously choosing the ligands and bismuth salt.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), often coexisting with various systemic disorders, may increase the risk of falls. Our study aimed to assess the prevalence and risk of falls among patients with CKD in China. METHODS: We included patients with/without CKD from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Our primary outcome was the occurrence of fall accidents within the past 2 years. To enhance the robustness of our findings, we employed a multivariable logistic regression model, conducted propensity score analysis, and applied an inverse probability-weighting model. RESULTS: A total of 12,658 participants were included, the prevalence of fall accident rates were 17.1% (2,028/11,837) among participants without CKD and 24.7% (203/821) among those with CKD. In the inverse probability-weighting model, participants with CKD exhibited higher fall accident rates (OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.08-1.53, p = 0.005 ). Sensitivity and subgroup analysis showed the results still stable. CONCLUSIONS: The population in China afflicted with CKD has a significantly heightened risk of experiencing falls, underscoring the crucial importance of intensifying efforts in assessing and preventing fall risks.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to explore the effect of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) on tethered spinal cord release in children. METHODS: The clinical data of 454 children with tethered cord syndrome who underwent surgery for tethered cord release were retrospectively analyzed. The children were divided into two groups: the non-IONM group and the IONM group. SPSS 26.0 software was used for statistical analysis. The evaluation indices included the effective rate and incidence of new neurological dysfunction. RESULTS: The short-term results showed that the effective rate of the non-IONM group was 14.8%, while that of the IONM group was 15.2%. Additionally, the incidence of new neurological dysfunction was 7.8% in the non-IONM group and 5.6% in the IONM group. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). The medium- to long-term follow-up had significant difference (P < 0.05), the response rate was 32.1% in the IONM group and 23.7% in the non-IONM group, and deterioration rates regarding neurological dysfunction were 3.3% in the IONM group and 8.5% in the non-IONM group. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that the use of IONM does not significantly improve the short-term treatment effect of patients undergoing surgery for tethered cord release or reduce the short-term incidence of postoperative new neurological dysfunction. However, the medium- to long-term prognoses of patients in the IONM group were better than those of patients in the non-IONM group.

RESUMO

This study demonstrates an acetate ligand (AcO-)-assisted strategy for the controllable and tunable synthesis of colloidal methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) for efficient photovoltaic and photodetector devices. The size of colloidal MAPbI3 PNCs can be tuned from 9 to 20 nm by changing the AcO-/MA ratio in the reaction precursor. In situ observations and detailed characterization results show that the incorporation of the AcO- ligand alters the formation of PbI6 octahedral cages, which controls PNC growth. A well-optimized AcO-/MA ratio affords MAPbI3 PNCs with a low defect density, a long carrier lifetime, and unique solid-state isotropic properties, which can be used to fabricate solution-processed dual-mode photovoltaic and photodetector devices with a conversion efficiency of 13.34% and a detectivity of 2 × 1011 Jones, respectively. This study provides an avenue to further the precisely controllable synthesis of hybrid PNCs for multifunctional optoelectronic applications.

RESUMO

Narrow bandgap conjugated polymers are a heavily studied class of organic semiconductors, but their excited states usually have a very short lifetime, limiting their scope for applications. One approach to overcome the short lifetime is to populate long-lived triplet states for which relaxation to the ground state is forbidden. However, the triplet lifetime of narrow bandgap polymer films is typically limited to a few microseconds. Here, we investigated the effect of film morphology on triplet dynamics in red-emitting conjugated polymers based on the classic benzodithiophene monomer unit with the solubilizing alkyl side chains C16 and C2C6 and then used Pd porphyrin sensitization as a further strategy to change the triplet dynamics. Using transient absorption spectroscopy, we demonstrated a 0.45 ms triplet lifetime for the more crystalline nonsensitized polymer C2C6, 2-3 orders of magnitude longer than typically reported, while the amorphous C16 had only a 5 µs lifetime. The increase is partly due to delaying bimolecular electron-hole recombination in the more crystalline C2C6, where a higher energy barrier for charge recombination is expected. A triplet lifetime of 0.4 ms was also achieved by covalently incorporating 5% of Pd porphyrin into the C16 polymer, which introduced extra energy transfer steps between the polymer and porphyrin that delayed triplet dynamics and increased the polymer triplet yield by 7.9 times. This work demonstrates two synthetic approaches to generate the longest-lived triplet excited states in narrow bandgap conjugated polymers, which is of necessity in a wide range of fields that range from organic electronics to sensors and bioapplications.

RESUMO

Electrodes are indispensable components in semiconductor devices, and now are mainly made from metals, which are convenient for use but not ideal for emerging technologies such as bioelectronics, flexible electronics, or transparent electronics. Here the methodology of fabricating novel electrodes for semiconductor devices using organic semiconductors (OSCs) is proposed and demonstrated. It is shown that polymer semiconductors can be heavily p- or n-doped to achieve sufficiently high conductivity for electrodes. In contrast with metals, the doped OSC films (DOSCFs) are solution-processable, mechanically flexible, and have interesting optoelectronic properties. By integrating the DOSCFs with semiconductors through van der Waals contacts different kinds of semiconductor devices can be constructed. Importantly, these devices exhibit higher performance than their counterparts with metal electrodes, and/or excellent mechanical or optical properties that are unavailable in metal-electrode devices, suggesting the superiority of DOSCF electrodes. Given the existing large amount of OSCs, the established methodology can provide abundant electrode choices to meet the demand of various emerging devices.

RESUMO

Chemical bath deposited (CBD) SnO2 is one of the most prevailing electron transport layers for realizing high-efficiency perovskite solar cells (PSCs) so far. However, the state-of-the-art CBD SnO2 process is time-consuming, contradictory to its prospect in industrialization. Herein, a simplified yet efficient method is developed for the fast deposition of SnO2 electrodes by incorporating a concentrated Sn source stabilized by the ethanol ligand with antimony (Sb) doping. The higher concentration of Sn source promotes the deposition rate, and Sb doping improves the hole-blocking capability of the CBD SnO2 layer so that its target thickness can be reduced to further save the deposition time. As a result, the deposition time can be appreciably reduced from 3-4 h to only 5 min while maintaining 95% of the maximum efficiency, indicating the power of the method toward high-throughput production of efficient PSCs. Additionally, the CBD SnO2 substrates are recyclable after removing the upper layers of complete PSCs, and the refurbished PSCs can maintain ≈98% of their initial efficiency after three recycling-and-fabrication processes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endothelial cells (ECs) play a critical role in angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. The heterogeneity of ECs has been reported at adult stages, yet it has not been fully investigated. This study aims to assess the transcriptional heterogeneity of developmental ECs at spatiotemporal level and to reveal the changes of embryonic ECs clustering when endothelium-enriched microRNA-126 (miR-126) was specifically knocked out. METHODS: C57BL/6J mice embryos at day 14.5 were harvested and digested, followed by fluorescence-activated cell sorting to enrich ECs. Then, single-cell RNA sequencing was applied to enriched embryonic ECs. Tie2 (Tek receptor tyrosine kinase)-cre-mediated ECs-specific miR-126 knockout mice were constructed, and ECs from Tie2-cre-mediated ECs-specific miR-126 knockout embryos were subjected to single-cell RNA sequencing. RESULTS: Embryonic ECs were clustered into 11 groups corresponding to anatomic characteristics. The vascular bed (arteries, capillaries, veins, lymphatics) exhibited transcriptomic similarity across the developmental stage. Embryonic ECs had higher proliferative potential than adult ECs. Integrating analysis showed that 3 ECs populations (hepatic, mesenchymal transition, and pulmonary ECs) were apparently disorganized after miR-126 being knocked out. Gene ontology analysis revealed that disrupted ECs were mainly related to hypoxia, glycometabolism, and vascular calcification. Additionally, in vivo experiment showed that Tie2-cre-mediated ECs-specific miR-126 knockout mice exhibited excessive intussusceptive angiogenesis; reductive glucose and pyruvate tolerance; and excessive accumulation of calcium. Agonist miR-126-3p agomir significantly rescued the phenotype of glucose metabolic dysfunction in Tie2-cre-mediated ECs-specific miR-126 knockout mice. CONCLUSIONS: The heterogeneity of ECs is established as early as the embryonic stage. The deficiency of miR-126 disrupts the differentiation and diversification of embryonic ECs, suggesting that miR-126 plays an essential role in the maintenance of ECs heterogeneity.

RESUMO

Obesity represents a risk factor for multiple coexisting conditions and complications. Liraglutide is mainly reserved for populations who fail to achieve weight loss goals with lifestyle changes alone. This study aims to systematically evaluate the safety and effectiveness of liraglutide in weight management in children and youth. A systematic search was performed of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to February 23rd, 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of liraglutide in children and youth were included. All data analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3 version. Seven eligible articles were finally included, covering a population of 547 participants. Liraglutide use was associated with reduced body weight (WMD: -2.13 kg; 95%CI: -4.23, -0.03), BMI (WMD: -1.56 kg/m2; 95% CI: -2.41, -0.7), and BMI SDS (WMD: -0.17; 95% CI: -0.26, -0.08). Similar associations were found in HbA1c (WMD: -0.29%; 95% CI: -0.52, -0.06) and fasting plasma glucose (SMD: -0.39; 95% CI: -0.64, -0.14). Subgroup analysis shows an improvement in HbA1c control only among children with type 2 diabetes (WMD: -1.06%; 95% CI: -1.44, -0.67). No differences were found in fasting serum insulin, SBP, DBP, HDL, LDL, and TG between liraglutide and placebo. In addition, no difference was found in the frequencies of adverse events, serious adverse events, and adverse events resulting in discontinuation of therapy between liraglutide and placebo treatment groups. CONCLUSION: Liraglutide is safe and effective in weight-reducing and glycemic control in children and adolescents. WHAT IS KNOWN: • A few first-line treatment of these children and adolescents with overweight and obesity is a multi-component lifestyle intervention. • Lifestyle modifications are not suitable for all individuals, therefore, new treatment strategies urgent need to be established. WHAT IS NEW: • This is the first meta-analysis conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of liraglutide for weight management in children and adolescents. • Liraglutide is safe and effective in weight-reducing and glycemic control in children and adolescents.

RESUMO

Organic photovoltaics are remarkably close to reaching a landmark power conversion efficiency of 20%. Given the current urgent concerns regarding climate change, research into renewable energy solutions is crucially important. In this perspective article, we highlight several key aspects of organic photovoltaics, ranging from fundamental understanding to implementation, that need to be addressed to ensure the success of this promising technology. We cover the intriguing ability of some acceptors to undergo efficient charge photogeneration in the absence of an energetic driving force and the effects of the resulting state hybridization. We explore one of the primary loss mechanisms of organic photovoltaics-non-radiative voltage losses-and the influence of the energy gap law. Triplet states are becoming increasingly relevant owing to their presence in even the most efficient non-fullerene blends, and we assess their role as both a loss mechanism and a potential strategy to enhance efficiency. Finally, two ways in which the implementation of organic photovoltaics can be simplified are addressed. The standard bulk heterojunction architecture could be superseded by either single material photovoltaics or sequentially deposited heterojunctions, and the attributes of both are considered. While several important challenges still lie ahead for organic photovoltaics, their future is, indeed, bright.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: PE is a pregnancy-specific syndrome and one of the main causes of maternal, fetal, and neonatal mortality. PRDX1 is an antioxidant that regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of PRDX1 on the regulation of trophoblast function by affecting autophagy and oxidative stress in preeclampsia. METHODS: Western blotting, RT-qPCR, and immunofluorescence were used to examine the expression of PRDX1 in placentas. PRDX1-siRNA was transfected to knockdown PRDX1 in HTR-8/SVneo cells. The biological function of HTR-8/SVneo cells was detected by wound healing, invasion, tube formation, CCK-8, EdU, flow cytometry, and TUNEL assays. Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression of cleaved-Caspase3, Bax, LC3II, Beclin1, PTEN, and p-AKT. DCFH-DA staining was used to detect ROS levels by flow cytometry. RESULTS: PRDX1 was significantly decreased in placental trophoblasts in PE patients. Following the exposure of HTR-8/SVneo cells to H2O2, PRDX1 expression was significantly decreased, LC3II and Beclin1 expression was notably increased, and ROS level was also markedly increased. PRDX1 knockdown impaired migration, invasion, and tube-formation abilities and promoted apoptosis, which was accompanied by an increased expression of cleaved-Caspase3 and Bax. PRDX1 knockdown induced a significant decrease in LC3II and Beclin1 expression, along with an elevated p-AKT expression and a decreased PTEN expression. PRDX1 knockdown increased intracellular ROS levels, and NAC attenuated PRDX1 knockdown-induced apoptosis. CONCLUSION: PRDX1 regulated trophoblast function through the PTEN/AKT signaling pathway to affect cell autophagy and ROS level, which provided a potential target for the treatment of PE.

RESUMO

For emerging perovskite quantum dots (QDs), understanding the surface features and their impact on the materials and devices is becoming increasingly urgent. In this family, hybrid FAPbI3 QDs (FA: formamidium) exhibit higher ambient stability, near-infrared absorption and sufficient carrier lifetime. However, hybrid QDs suffer from difficulty in modulating surface ligand, which is essential for constructing conductive QD arrays for photovoltaics. Herein, assisted by an ionic liquid formamidine thiocyanate, we report a facile surface reconfiguration methodology to modulate surface and manipulate electronic coupling of FAPbI3 QDs, which is exploited to enhance charge transport for fabricating high-quality QD arrays and photovoltaic devices. Finally, a record-high efficiency approaching 15 % is achieved for FAPbI3 QD solar cells, and they retain over 80 % of the initial efficiency after aging in ambient environment (20-30 % humidity, 25 °C) for over 600 h.

RESUMO

Ruddlesden-Popper phase 2D perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit improved lifetime while still facing challenges such as phase alignment and up-scaling to module-level devices. Herein, polyelectrolytes are explored to tackle this issue. The contact between perovskite and hole-transport layer (HTL) is important for decreasing interfacial non-radiative recombination and scalable fabrication of uniform 2D perovskite films. Through exploring compatible butylamine cations, we first demonstrate poly(3-(4-carboxybutyl)thiophene-2,5-diyl)-butylamine (P3CT-BA) as an efficient HTL for 2D PSCs due to its great hydrophilicity, relatively high hole mobility and uniform surface. More importantly, the tailored P3CT-BA has an anchoring effect and acts as the buried passivator for 2D perovskites. Consequently, a best efficiency approaching 18 % was achieved and we further first report large-area (2×3 cm2 , 5×5 cm2 ) 2D perovskite minimodules with an impressive efficiency of 14.81 % and 11.13 %, respectively.

RESUMO

The rapid advance and popularization of VoIP (Voice over IP) has also brought security issues. VoIP-based secure voice communication has two sides: first, for legitimate users, the secret voice can be embedded in the carrier and transmitted safely in the channel to prevent privacy leakage and ensure data security; second, for illegal users, the use of VoIP Voice communication hides and transmits illegal information, leading to security incidents. Therefore, in recent years, steganography and steganography analysis based on VoIP have gradually become research hotspots in the field of information security. Steganography and steganalysis based on VoIP can be divided into two categories, depending on where the secret information is embedded: steganography and steganalysis based on voice payload or protocol. The former mainly regards voice payload as the carrier, and steganography or steganalysis is performed with respect to the payload. It can be subdivided into steganography and steganalysis based on FBC (fixed codebook), LPC (linear prediction coefficient), and ACB (adaptive codebook). The latter uses various protocols as the carrier and performs steganography or steganalysis with respect to some fields of the protocol header and the timing of the voice packet. It can be divided into steganography and steganalysis based on the network layer, the transport layer, and the application layer. Recent research results of steganography and steganalysis based on protocol and voice payload are classified in this paper, and the paper also summarizes their characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. The development direction of future research is analyzed. Therefore, this research can provide good help and guidance for researchers in related fields.

RESUMO

Finding the news of same case from the large numbers of case-involved news is an important basis for public opinion analysis. Existing text clustering methods usually based on topic models which only use topic and case infomation as the global features of documents, so distinguishing between different cases with similar types remains a challenge. The contents of documents contain rich local features. Taking into account the internal features of news, the information of cases and the contributions provided by different topics, we propose a clustering method of case-involved news, which combines topic network and multi-head attention mechanism. Using case information and topic information to construct a topic network, then extracting the global features by graph convolution network, thus realizing the combination of case information and topic information. At the same time, the local features are extracted by multi-head attention mechanism. Finally, the fusion of global features and local features is realized by variational auto-encoder, and the learned latent representations are used for clustering. The experiments show that the proposed method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art unsupervised clustering methods.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Miscellaneous memory cell populations that exist before organ transplantation are crucial barriers to transplantation. In the present study, we used a skin-primed heart transplantation model in mouse to evaluate the abilities of Thalidomide (TD), alone or in combination with co-stimulatory blockade, using monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against memory T cells and alloantibodies to prolong the second cardiac survival. RESULTS: In the skin-primed heart transplantation model, TD combined with mAbs significantly prolonged the second cardiac survival, accompanied by inhibition of memory CD8+ T cells. This combined treatment enhanced the CD4+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells ratio in the spleen, restrained the infiltration of lymphocytes into the allograft, and suppressed the allo-response of spleen T cells in the recipient. The levels of allo-antibodies also decreased in the recipient serum. In addition, we detected low levels of the constitutions of the lytic machinery of cytotoxic cells, which cause allograft damage. CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicated a potential synergistic action of TD in combination with with mAbs to suppress the function of memory T cells and increase the survival of second allografts in alloantigen-primed mice.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 are reported to participate in several pregnancy-related diseases, including intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), which is a severe liver disorder in pregnant women. Meanwhile, ample evidences have demonstrated that celastrol inhibits the activity and expression of MMPs. The present study aims to examine the effect of celastrol to alleviate symptoms of ICP in rat model. MATERIAL AND METHODS: By inducing ICP with 17 - ethinylestradiol in pregnant female rats, we assessed the impact of celastrol administration on symptoms of ICP, such as the rate of bile flow, the level of total bile acids (TBA), and the activities of MMP-2 and -9. Furthermore, the correlations between the levels of MMPs with the examined ICP symptoms were investigated. RESULTS: In rats with ICP, both MMP-2 and -9 exhibited significantly elevated activities, which were inhibited by the administration of celastrol. Furthermore, ICP symptoms such as bile flow rate and total TBA were restored by celastrol. Lastly, there were strong correlations between levels of the two MMPs and TBA. CONCLUSION: Our findings described for the first time the effects of celastrol to attenuate ICP symptoms through an inhibition of both MMP-2 and -9, providing evidence for a potential role of celastrol as a new drug for the treatment of ICP.
