RESUMO

In this work, bisarsine oxides were evaluated as novel bridging ligands, aiming to develop practical and efficient luminescent lanthanide coordination polymers. We have synthesized one-dimensional (1D) Eu3+ coordination polymers that incorporate bisarsine oxide bridging ligands and hexafluoroacetylacetonate anions. These polymers exhibited a denser packing of chains compared to analogous polymers bridged with bisphosphine oxides. The coordination polymers demonstrated exceptional thermal stability and substantial emission quantum yields. Additionally, the bisarsine oxides induced a pronounced polarization effect, facilitating a sensitive electric dipole transition that yields considerably narrow band red emission. Remarkably, the Eu3+ coordination polymers with bisarsine oxides maintained intense emission even at 550 K. A distinctive feature of these polymers is their heating-induced emission enhancement observed when the temperature was increased from 300 K to 400 K.

RESUMO

Photosensitizer design of luminescent terbium (Tb(III)) complexes with narrow bandwidths is important for advancing luminescent materials. In this study, we report an effective photosensitizer model in a thermally populated lowest excited triplet (T1) state during Tb(III) emission. The Tb(III) complex comprises a Tb(III) ion (serving as an emission center), hexafluoroacetylacetonates (acting as photosensitizer ligands), and bulky cyclohexyl group-attached phosphine-oxide-type ligands (functioning as an oxygen barrier system). Emission properties including emission and excitation spectra, ligand-excited emission quantum yields, and emission lifetimes were evaluated in the absence and presence of oxygen. Coordination geometry structures were determined through analysing single-crystal structures. The electronic structure based on 4f-orbitals was estimated from radiative rate constants and quantum chemical calculations. The bulky phosphine oxide ligand not only provides an oxygen barrier system but also induces an electronic structural modulation based on 4f-orbitals, allowing for effective photosensitized Tb(III) emission in a thermally populated ligand T1 state in air.

RESUMO

(Objectives) Enzalutamide is an effective therapeutic options for castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). General fatigue is a major adverse event after commencing of enzalutamide in CRPC patients; however, its precise impact remains uncertain, especially on the duration of enzalutamide therapy. This study evaluated the relationship of general fatigue with patient age and enzalutamide treatment duration using real-world clinical data. (Patients and methods) This investigation retrospectively included patients who received enzalutamide therapy for CRPC between 2014 and 2018 at Shinshu University School of Medicine or Nagano Municipal Hospital. We classified the patients into the general fatigue group and the non-general fatigue group, and analyzed the groups in with regard to age and the duration of enzalutamide treatment. (Results) Of the 98 patients with CRPC were enrolled, 40 (40.8%) complained of general fatigue after enzalutamide induction. The median age of the study group was 78.0 years (71.0 years in the general fatigue group and 75.0 years in the non-general fatigue group), with no significant difference between the groups. Mean treatment duration was also comparable at 265.9 days in the general fatigue group and 266.5 days in the non-general fatigue group. (Conclusions) General fatigue after commencing enzalutamide was not impacted by age and did not remarkably influence the duration of therapy for CRPC.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: We encountered a patient in whom bladder inguinal hernia complicated by bladder stones was incidentally diagnosed. Bladder inguinal hernia containing stones in the prolapsed bladder is rare and only two cases have been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was an 82-year-old male in whom ascending colon cancer and inguinal hernia containing the urinary bladder were diagnosed based on abdominal computed tomography performed to examine anemia. The urinary bladder contained several small stones. Radical surgery for the hernia and lithotripsy of the urinary bladder were concomitantly performed with right colectomy. On stone analysis, the stones were found to be uric acid calculi. CONCLUSION: In the three patients with inguinal hernia containing the urinary bladder complicated by stones, including our patient, two-stage urination, organic lower urinary tract obstruction, and prolapse of the urinary bladder reaching the scrotum were noted in all patients.
