RESUMO

The bright white lights: A series of highly robust platinum(II) complexes supported by tetradentate O N C N ligands with high emission quantum yields (0.72-0.93) and high T(d) (>400 °C) have been synthesized. Among the complexes, that shown in the figure has strong excimer emission attributed to the monomer triplet excited state with a localized structure. The application of this low band-gap material on single-dopant organic or polymer white-light-emitting diodes (WOLED) is highlighted.

RESUMO

A series of [(R'-C^N^C-R'')Pt(L)] complexes with doubly deprotonated cyclometalated R'-C^N^C-R'' ligands (R'-C^N^C-R''=2,6-diphenylpyridine derivatives) functionalized with carbazole, fluorene, or thiophene unit(s) have been synthesized and their photophysical properties studied. The X-ray crystal structures reveal extensive intermolecular π···π and C-H···π interactions between the cyclometalated C^N^C ligands. Compared to previously reported cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes [(C^N^C)Pt(L)], which are non-emissive in solution at room temperature, the carbazole-, fluorene- and thiophene-functionalized [(R'-C^N^C-R'')Pt(L)] (L=DMSO 1-9, C≡N-Ar, 1a-9a) complexes are emissive in solution at room temperature with λ(max) at 564-619 nm and Φ=0.02-0.26. The emissions of the [(R'-C^N^C-R'')Pt(L)] complexes are attributed to electronic excited states with mixed (3)MLCT and (3)IL character. The carbazole/fluorene/thiophene unit(s) allow the tuning of the electronic properties of the [(R'-C^N^C-R'')Pt] moiety, with the emission maxima in a range of 564-619 nm. These are the first examples of organoplatinum(II) complexes bearing doubly deprotonated cyclometalated C^N^C ligands that are emissive in solution at room temperature. In non-degassed DMSO, the emission intensities of 6a-9a are enhanced upon exposure to ambient light. This phenomenon is caused by reacting photogenerated (1)O(2) with a DMSO molecule to form dimethyl sulfone, leading to the removal of dissolved oxygen in solution. Self-assembled nanowires and nanorods are obtained from precipitation of 3a in THF/H(2)O and 8a in DMSO/Et(2)O, respectively. The [(R'-C^N^C-R'')Pt(L)] complexes are soluble in common organic solvents with a high thermal stability (>300 °C), rendering them as phosphorescent dopants for organic light-emitting diode (OLEDs) applications. Red OLEDs with CIE coordinates of (0.65±0.01, 0.35±0.01) were fabricated from 7a or 8a. A maximum external efficiency (η(Ext)) of 12.6% was obtained for the device using 8a as emitter.

RESUMO

The complexes [Pt(tBu(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C(6)H(4)C[triple bond]C)(n-1)R}](+) (n = 1: R = alkyl and aryl (Ar); n = 1-3: R = phenyl (Ph) or Ph-N(CH(3))(2)-4; n = 1 and 2, R = Ph-NH(2)-4; tBu(3)tpy = 4,4',4''-tri-tert-butyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) and [Pt(Cl(3)tpy)(C[triple bond]CR)](+) (R = tert-butyl (tBu), Ph, 9,9'-dibutylfluorene, 9,9'-dibutyl-7-dimethyl-amine-fluorene; Cl(3)tpy = 4,4',4''-trichloro-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) were prepared. The effects of substituent(s) on the terpyridine (tpy) and acetylide ligands and chain length of arylacetylide ligands on the absorption and emission spectra were examined. Resonance Raman (RR) spectra of [Pt(tBu(3)tpy)(C[triple bond]CR)](+) (R = n-butyl, Ph, and C(6)H(4)-OCH(3)-4) obtained in acetonitrile at 298 K reveal that the structural distortion of the C[triple bond]C bond in the electronic excited state obtained by 502.9 nm excitation is substantially larger than that obtained by 416 nm excitation. Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) calculations on [Pt(H(3)tpy)(C[triple bond]CR)](+) (R = n-propyl (nPr), 2-pyridyl (Py)), [Pt(H(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C(6)H(4)C[triple bond]C)(n-1)Ph}](+) (n = 1-3), and [Pt(H(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C(6)H(4)C[triple bond]C)(n-1)C(6)H(4)-N(CH(3))(2)-4}](+)/+H(+) (n = 1-3; H(3)tpy = nonsubstituted terpyridine) at two different conformations were performed, namely, with the phenyl rings of the arylacetylide ligands coplanar ("cop") with and perpendicular ("per") to the H(3)tpy ligand. Combining the experimental data and calculated results, the two lowest energy absorption peak maxima, lambda(1) and lambda(2), of [Pt(Y(3)tpy)(C[triple bond]CR)](+) (Y = tBu or Cl, R = aryl) are attributed to (1)[pi(C[triple bond]CR)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)] in the "cop" conformation and mixed (1)[d(pi)(Pt)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)]/(1)[pi(C[triple bond]CR)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)] transitions in the "per" conformation. The lowest energy absorption peak lambda(1) for [Pt(tBu(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C(6)H(4)C[triple bond]C)(n-1)C(6)H(4)-H-4}](+) (n = 1-3) shows a redshift with increasing chain length. However, for [Pt(tBu(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C6H4C[triple bond]C)(n-1)C(6)H(4)-N(CH(3))(2)-4}](+) (n = 1-3), lambda(1) shows a blueshift with increasing chain length n, but shows a redshift after the addition of acid. The emissions of [Pt(Y(3)tpy)(C[triple bond]CR)](+) (Y = tBu or Cl) at 524-642 nm measured in dichloromethane at 298 K are assigned to the (3)[pi(C[triple bond]CAr)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)] excited states and mixed (3)[d(pi)(Pt)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)]/(3)[pi(C[triple bond]C)-->pi*(Y(3)tpy)] excited states for R = aryl and alkyl groups, respectively. [Pt(tBu(3)tpy){C[triple bond]C(C(6)H(4)C[triple bond]C)(n-1)C(6)H(4)-N(CH(3))(2)-4}](+) (n = 1 and 2) are nonemissive, and this is attributed to the small energy gap between the singlet ground state (S(0)) and the lowest triplet excited state (T(1)).

RESUMO

A series of platinum(II) complexes bearing tridentate cyclometalated C^N^N (C^N^N=6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine and π-extended R-C^N^N=3-[6'-(naphthalen-2''-yl)pyridin-2'-yl]isoquinoline) ligands with fluorene units have been synthesised and their photophysical properties have been studied. The fluorene units are incorporated into the cyclometalated ligands by a Suzuki coupling reaction. An increase in the π-conjugation of the cyclometalated ligands confers favourable photophysical properties compared to the 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine analogues. The fluorene-based platinum(II) complexes display vibronic-structured emission bands with λ(max)=558-601 nm, and high emission quantum yields up to 0.76 in degassed dichloromethane. Their emissions are tentatively assigned to excited states with mixed (3)IL/(3)MLCT parentage (IL=intraligand, MLCT=metal-to-ligand charge transfer). The crystal structures of these platinum(II) complexes reveal extensive Pt(II)···π and/or π-π interactions. The fluorene-based platinum(II) complexes are soluble in organic solvents, have high thermal stability with decomposition temperature >350 °C, and can be thermally vacuum-sublimed or solution-processed as phosphorescent dopants for the fabrication of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). A monochromic OLED with 3d as dopant (2 wt%) fabricated by vacuum deposition gave a current efficiency of 14.7 cd A(-1) and maximum brightness of 27000 cd m(-2). A high current efficiency (9.2 cd A(-1)) has been achieved in a solution-processed OLED using complex 3f (5 wt%) doped in a PVK (poly(9-vinylcarbazole)) host.

RESUMO

Reaction of Ag( p-MeC 6H 4SO 3) with 2,6-bis(bis(2-pyridyl)methoxymethane)pyridine (PY5) in CH 2Cl 2 gave [Ag (I) 2(PY5) 2](p-MeC 6H 4SO 3) 2 (1). Treatment of 2,6-bis(bis(2-pyridyl)hydroxymethane)pyridine (PY5-OH) with AgNO 3 in MeOH gave [Ag (I) 2(PY5-OH) 2](NO3) 2 (2); in the presence of PPh 3, this reaction afforded [Ag (I)(PY5-OH)(PPh 3)]NO 3 (3). The structures of 1- 3 have been determined by X-ray crystal analysis, revealing four-coordinate Ag (I) ions in these complexes. Both 1 and 2 feature a quadruply branched 28-membered C 16N 10M 2 metallamacrocycle fused to 10 pyridyl groups. On the basis of (1)H NMR measurements, the dinuclear 1 and 2 dissociate into a mononuclear complex upon dissolving in MeCN but in MeOH an equilibrium between the mono- and dinuclear species can be detected.

RESUMO

The crystal structures and photophysical properties of mononuclear [(RC N N)PtX](ClO4)n ((RC N N)=3-(6'-(2''-naphthyl)-2'-pyridyl)isoquinolinyl and derivatives; X=Cl, n=0; X=PPh(3) or PCy(3), n=1), dinuclear [(RC N N)2Pt2(mu-dppm)](ClO4)2 (dppm=bis(diphenyphosphino)methyl) and trinuclear [(RC N N)3Pt3(mu-dpmp)](ClO4)3 (dpmp=bis(diphenylphosphinomethyl)phenylphosphine) complexes are presented. The crystal structures show extensive intra- and/or intermolecular pipi interactions; the two (RC N N) planes of [(RC N N)2Pt2(mu-dppm)](ClO4)2 (R=Ph, 3,5-tBu2Ph or 3,5-(CF3)2Ph) are in a nearly eclipsed configuration with torsion angles close to 0 degrees. [(RC N N)PtCl], [(RC N N)2Pt2(mu-dppm)](ClO4)2, and [(RC N N)3Pt3(mu-dpmp)](ClO4)3 are strongly emissive with quantum yields of up to 0.68 in CH2Cl2 or MeCN solution at room temperature. The [(RC N N)PtCl] complexes have a high thermal stability (T(d)=470-549 degrees C). High-performance light-emitting devices containing [(RC N N)PtCl] (R=H or 3,5-tBu2Ph) as a light-emitting material have been fabricated; they have a maximum luminance of 63,000 cd m(-2) and CIE 1931 coordinates at x=0.36, y=0.54.

RESUMO

Reacting K2PtCl4 with the tridentate R-C(wedge)N(wedge)C-H2 ligands 2,6-di-(2'-naphthyl)-4-R-pyridine (R = H, 1a; Ph, 1b; 4-BrC6H4, 1c; 3,5-F2C6H3, 1d) in glacial acetic acid, followed by heating in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), gave complexes [(R-C(wedge)N(wedge)C)Pt(DMSO)] (2a-d). In the crystal structures of 2a-c, the molecules are paired in a head-to-tail orientation with Pt...Pt separations >6.3 A, and there are extensive close C-H...pi (d = 2.656-2.891 A), pi...pi (d = 3.322-3.399 A), and C-H...O=S (d = 2.265-2.643 A) contacts. [(Ph-C(wedge)N(wedge)C)Pt(PPh3)] (3) was prepared by reacting 2b with PPh3. Reactions of 2a-d with bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) gave [(R-C(wedge)N(wedge)C)2Pt2(mu-dppm)] (4a-d). Both head-to-head (syn) and head-to-tail (anti) conformations were found for 4a.6CHCl3.C5H12, whereas only one conformation was observed for 4b.2CHCl3 (syn), 4c.3CH2Cl2 (syn), and 4d.2CHCl3 (anti). In the crystal structures of 4a-d, there are close intramolecular Pt...Pt contacts of 3.272-3.441 A in the syn conformers, and long intramolecular Pt...Pt separations of 5.681-5.714 A in the anti conformers. There are weak C-H...X (d = 2.497-3.134 A) and X...X (X = Cl or Br; d = 2.973-3.655 A) interactions between molecules 4a-d and occluded CHCl3/CH2Cl2 molecules, and their solvent channels are of varying diameters (approximately 9-28 A). Complexes 2a-d, 3, and 4a-d are photoluminescent in the solid state, with emission maxima at 602-643 nm. Upon exposure to volatile organic compounds, 4a shows a fast and reversible vapoluminescent response, which is most intense with volatile halogenated solvents (except CCl4). Powder X-ray diffraction analysis of desolvated 4a revealed a more condensed molecular packing of syn and anti complexes than crystal 4a.6CHCl3.C5H12.

RESUMO

A family of Group 4 post-metallocene catalysts, supported by fluorine-functionalized tridentate ligands with the fluorine substituent in the locality of the metal center, is described. For the first time, the contentious C-H...F-C interaction has been characterized by a neutron diffraction study, which has allowed the position of the hydrogen atoms to be accurately determined. The nature of the weak intramolecular C-H...F-C contacts in these complexes in solution and the solid state was probed by using multinuclear NMR spectroscopy in tandem with neutron and X-ray crystallography. Evidence is presented to demonstrate that the spectroscopic C-H...F-C coupling occurs "through-space" rather than "through-bond" or by MF coordination. The titanium catalysts exhibit excellent activities and high co-monomer incorporation in olefin polymerization. The observed intramolecular C-H...F-C interactions are important with regards to potential applications in polyolefin catalysis because they substantiate the proposed ortho-F...H(beta) ligand-(polymer chain) contacts derived from DFT calculations for the remarkable fluorinated phenoxyimine Group 4 catalysts. Compared with agostic and co-catalyst...metal contacts, weak attractive noncovalent interactions between a polymer chain and a judiciously designed "active" ligand is a new concept in polyolefin catalysis.
