RESUMO

PURPOSE: To analyze the content of the concepts present in the nursing diagnosis of Ineffective infant feeding pattern. DESIGN AND METHODS: Content validation of nursing diagnosis based on the predictive diversity model. A methodological study of the content validation of a nursing diagnosis was based on the predictive diversity model and performed in the following three stages: conceptual definition of the phenomenon of interest; organization of the phenomenon of interest; and analysis by judges of the concepts of the phenomenon of interest. RESULTS: The first two stages identified 13 clinical indicators and 12 etiological factors, which were evaluated by 23 judges. The analyses of judgments were performed according to the level of expertise of the judges. All the clinical indicators were relevant to nursing diagnosis under study. Nine causal factors were analyzed, including the level of importance to the occurrence of Ineffective infant feeding pattern. CONCLUSIONS: This study analyzed the diagnostic structure of Ineffective infant feeding pattern, which were considered representative of the phenomenon of interest after evaluation by the judges. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The use of nursing diagnosis with accurate elements facilitates clinical reasoning and favors the development of an adequate care plan.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of using a flipchart (serial album) on maternal self-efficacy in breastfeeding and its effects on exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in children's first two months of life. METHOD: Clinical trial in Recife, Northeastern Brazil, with 112 women in the third trimester of gestation, randomly distributed in intervention group (IG) and control group (CG). The intervention was the use of the flipchart in IG. Data collection was performed through interviews in the prenatal period, and telephone contact at second, fourth and eighth weeks postpartum. The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short-Form (BSES-SF) was used to measure self-efficacy scores. In the analysis, was used descriptive, bivariate statistics through tests of comparisons of proportions and means, and relative risk assessment. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference in mean values of self-efficacy scores between women in the IG and CG (p<0.001) and in EBF rates (p<0.001). The probability of exclusively breastfeeding in IG was twice as high than in CG (RR 2.2, CI 1.51-3.21). CONCLUSION: The use of a flipchart as an educational tool had positive effects on self-efficacy scores for breastfeeding and in maintenance of EBF in the IG. RESUMO

AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of educational interventions focusing on women and their social network for the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding up to the age of 6 months. BACKGROUND: Despite the advantages of breastfeeding and strategies available for its promotion, early weaning is common worldwide. DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis based on the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines. DATA SOURCES: A search was performed in databases (LILACS, PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, CINAHL, Web of Science and Cochrane Library), reference lists and grey literature. There was no limitation on the studies' year of publication. REVIEW METHODS: JBI-MAStARI software were used. The meta-analysis was performed using Stata version 13·0. The effect was estimated by odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS: Of 7201 identified studies, 11 made up the review's corpus. Educational interventions were about twice as effective compared with routine interventions used in the control groups. It was evident that educational interventions have focused only on the woman and have not covered all five types of support she needs to breastfeed. CONCLUSION: Educational interventions were about twice as effective in promoting exclusive breastfeeding at 6 months old. There is a need for further studies applying interventions that address women and their social network from the prenatal period, considering all types of support.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to identify factors associated with adherence to the COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy. METHOD: cross-sectional and analytical study with 348 postpartum women in shared accommodation at the Municipal Maternities of Recife-PE. Data was collected through interviews during the months of June to September 2022. Pearson's Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests and the Poisson regression model were applied for statistical analysis. RESULTS: 17.2% of pregnant women adhered to the complete vaccination schedule, and adherence was associated with access to the internet/TV/radio (p-value = 0.011), routine prenatal vaccination (p-value = 0.019), safety of the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine and partner support (p-value = 0.020). Postpartum women without access to the internet/TV/radio, and who feel confident about the effectiveness of the vaccine, had higher prevalence rates for adhering to COVID-19 vaccination, with PRs of 2.56 and 3.25, respectively. CONCLUSION: there was evidence of low adherence to the vaccination schedule against COVID-19 during the gestational period, considering the number of recommended doses and the interval between them. Therefore, professionals in their clinical practice must make pregnant women aware of the importance of immunization and compliance with the vaccination schedule. BACKGROUND: (1) Maternal vaccination plays a significant role in preventing and combating maternal morbidity. (2) Some factors may influence acceptance or hesitancy of the COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy. (3) Safety regarding the effectiveness of vaccination against COVID-19 during pregnancy is a factor associated with adherence to COVID-19 vaccines. (4) Postpartum women without access to the internet/TV/radio have 2.56 times the risk of adhering to the COVID-19 vaccination schedule. (5) Health education helps to increase the level of knowledge and acceptance of the vaccine by pregnant women.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with nasal septum injury in preterm infants in the use of noninvasive ventilation. A cross-sectional study with data collection between March and July 2012 and with search for records, interviews with mothers and nasal evaluation of 47 premature in the neonatal unit of a teaching hospital in Recife, Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. A descriptive bivariate statistical analysis was performed through the chi-square test or Fisher exact test using the SPSS software. The prevalence of nasal lesions was 68.1%, associated with low birth weight and duration of treatment. The prevalence of nasal injury in this population is high and associated with low birth weight and length of stay in noninvasive ventilation. Due to these facts the necessity for preventive actions was noticed, such as continuous care in nursing, suitability of devices and permanent education in service.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the trends and factors associated with anaemia in 6- to 59-month-old children in Northeast Brazil. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study assessed information from the second and third Pernambuco State Health and Nutrition Surveys carried out in 1997 and 2006. A multiple regression analysis was performed from a conceptual model addressing biological and socio-economic factors, housing and sanitation conditions, maternal factors, health care and nutrition, consumption, morbidity and nutritional status. Poisson's regression with robust variance was used. SETTING: Pernambuco, Brazil. SUBJECTS: A total of 777 and 993 children, respectively, in the second and third Pernambuco State Health and Nutrition Surveys. RESULTS: The prevalence of anaemia (Hb < 11 g/dl) decreased by 19·3 % (40·9 % down to 33·0 %) between surveys. Maternal education level (less than 8 years in school), households ranked in the lowest environmental index tertile and children between 6 and 23 months of age were the variables common to the final models in the surveys of 1997 and 2006. Elements like living in rural areas, household income less than two minimum official wages and low birth weight were still present in the final model of the 1997 survey. Households ranked in the lowest economic index tertile were associated with anaemia in the model of the 2006 survey. CONCLUSIONS: The study results are quite encouraging from the perspective of reducing the prevalence of anaemia. Maternal education level, environmental conditions and child age were determinant factors in both surveys, and economic factors were determinant in 2006.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to assess the association between breastfeeding and diseases prevalent in the first two years of a child's life. METHODS: a retrospective cross-sectional study that analyzed electronic medical records of 401 children. Data on birth, growth, breastfeeding and medical care in the first two years of life were collected. In the analysis, Poisson regression with robust variance was used. RESULTS: 27.9% of children were exclusively breastfed until six months, and, at 24 months, 93.3% had already had some prevalent childhood disease. In the crude analysis, 5-minute Apgar association, length, weight at 12 months, exclusive and non-exclusive breastfeeding time had association. In the adjusted analysis, only the variable breastfeeding at six months maintained the association with prevalent childhood diseases. CONCLUSIONS: children who were not breastfed, exclusively or not, up to six months of age, had a higher prevalence of diseases compared to breastfed children.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in imprisoned women is high. In the prison school context, education in health is one of the best strategies to achieve positive indicators in terms of health promotion and disease prevention. The use of educational technologies, such as board games, can aid in the process of knowledge acquisition on a given subject matter. This article describes the protocol of a health educational intervention that addresses content about sexually transmitted infections directed to imprisoned women in a prison school. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A quasi-experimental study to test the effect of a board game on 64 imprisoned women's level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections. The Previna board game was specifically created and validated for these women. The primary outcome will be the level of knowledge on sexually transmitted infections, measured using a score obtained after the assessment conducted during the initial interview, immediately after the intervention and after 15 days. ETHICS AND DISCLOSURE: This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Pernambuco (Opinion No. 3 986 050 and CAAE: 30035520.7.0000.5208). The results will be presented to the school and to the Federal University of Pernambuco, as part of the activities of a PhD Thesis in Nursing, and will be disclosed in peer-reviewed journals and scientific events. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: RBR-2JWS7DV.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To construct a middle-range theory, based on the Roy adaptation model, for nurses can diagnose an ineffective infant feeding pattern. DATA SOURCE: Scientific findings were used through a literature review and the concepts of the Roy model. DATA SYNTHESIS: The theory indicated new elements for the diagnosis: 12 etiological factors and 13 clinical indicators. Most of those are not contained in the NANDA taxonomy. CONCLUSION: The middle-range theory for these diagnoses highlights the need for a review of the components present in the taxonomy. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: This approach guides research on nursing diagnoses to revise the content of the theory and to expand its concepts and elements for the diagnosis of an ineffective infant feeding pattern.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Prisons are places with high vulnerability and high risk for the development of sexually transmitted infections. World Health Agencies recommend establishing intervention measures, such as information and education, on the prevention of diseases. Thus, technologies as tools for health education have been used to reduce sexually transmitted infections. However, no systematic review has investigated the effectiveness of these interventions. Therefore, this review's objective is to examine the effect of educational technologies used for preventing sexually transmitted infections in incarcerated women. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines will be strictly followed. The following electronic databases will be searched: Scopus; Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health, Education Resources Information Center, Embase, PsycINFO, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science and Google Scholar. Randomised clinical trials of interventions that used educational technologies to prevent sexually transmitted infections in incarcerated women will be searched in the databases from the beginning of 2020 until December by two researchers independently. A narrative synthesis will be constructed for all included studies, and if there are sufficient data, a meta-analysis will be performed using the Review Manager software (V.5.3). Continuous results will be presented as the weighted mean difference or the standardised mean difference with 95% CIs. Under the heterogeneity of the included studies, a random-effects or fixed-effects model will be used. The studies' heterogeneity will be assessed by the I2 method. The sensitivity analysis will be carried out to examine the magnitude of each study's influence on the general results. A significance level of p≤0.05 will be adopted. ETHICS AND DISCLOSURE: Ethical approval is not required because no primary data will be collected. The results will be published in journals reviewed by peers. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42020163820.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the determinants associated with neonatal mortality in a municipality in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco state. METHOD: Cross-sectional and analytical study, carried out in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão, Pernambuco. All child deaths reported by the municipality to the Brazilian Mortality Information System between 2011 and 2018 were analyzed. Data were categorized and organized in three dimensions to be subjected to descriptive, bivariate statistics and hierarchical Poisson regression with robust variance. Prevalence ratios were estimated, considering variables with p <0.05 as significant. RESULTS: The determinants associated with neonatal death were: caesarean delivery (PR 0.83; 95% CI 0.75-0.92), birth in the city itself (PR 1.12; 95% CI 1.01-1.25), newborn brown and black race/skin color (PR 1.13; 95% CI 1.001.29), prematurity (PR 1.88; 95% CI 1.79-1.97), and Apgar score <7 in the fifth minute (PR 1.74; 95% CI 1.67-1.82). CONCLUSION: Biological characteristics such as brown and black race/skin color, prematurity, and Apgar score <7 in the 5th minute after birth, as well as access to health services, such as being born in the municipality itself and not being born by caesarean delivery, were determinants associated with neonatal mortality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practices of grandmothers that support or discourage the breastfeeding process. METHOD: This is a meta-synthesis based on the theoretical and methodological framework of meta-ethnography developed by Noblit and Hare. A critical evaluation of the articles was conducted using the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (Coreq). Primary and secondary constructs derived from the results of nine articles were grouped into a new theory, leading to tertiary constructs that were presented in a diagram based on the functionality of Sanicola's Social Network Theory. RESULTS: Grandmothers know the benefits of breastfeeding, the importance of a special diet and proper hydration for the production of good quality milk, but report inadequacies in the treatment of breast complications and the need for breast milk complementation before the sixth month of life. These aspects were also observed: religious interference, opposition of ideas about breastfeeding, and family decisions based on the grandmother figure. CONCLUSION: Through knowledge, attitudes and practices, grandmothers, central figures in breastfeeding support, support their daughters and daughters-in-law in breastfeeding or discourage breastfeeding with contrary opinions and inadequate guidance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to analyze in the scientific literature the educational technologies on sexually transmitted infections used in health education for incarcerated women. METHOD: an integrative review carried out by searching for articles in the following databases: Scopus, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health, Education Resources Information Center, PsycInFO, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Latin American Literature in Health Sciences, Cochrane, and the ScienceDirect electronic library. There were no language and time restrictions. A search strategy was developed in PubMed and later adapted to the other databases. RESULTS: a total of 823 studies were initially identified and, after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles were selected. Most of them were developed in the United States with a predominance of randomized clinical trials. The technologies identified were of the printed materials type, isolated or associated to simulators of genital organs, videos, and games. CONCLUSION: the technologies on sexually transmitted infections used in health education for incarcerated women may contribute to adherence to the prevention of this serious public health problem in the context of deprivation of liberty.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding premature infants at hospital discharge, and after 15 and 30 days, and to identify the mothers' claims for discontinuation. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 108 premature infants born in two Baby-Friendly Hospitals between April and July 2014. A survey was conducted on medical records and through telephone interviews. A descriptive analysis, Pearson's chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test were used, with a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding at discharge was 85.2%, 75% after 15 days, and 46.3% after 30 days. The main claim for the introduction of other foods and/or liquids was insufficient milk.
