RESUMO

Weak doping can broaden, shift, and quench plasmon peaks in nanoparticles, but the mechanistic intricacies of the diverse responses to doping remain unclear. In this study, we used the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) to compute the excitation properties of transition-metal Pd- or Pt-doped gold and silver atomic arrays and investigate the evolution characteristics and response mechanisms of their plasmon peaks. The results demonstrated that the Pd or Pt doping of the off-centered 10 × 2 atomic arrays broadened or shifted the plasmon peaks to varying degrees. In particular, for Pd-doped 10 × 2 Au atomic arrays, the broadened plasmon peak significantly blueshifted, whereas a slight red shift was observed for Pt-doped arrays. For the 10 × 2 Ag atomic arrays, Pd doping caused almost no shift in the plasmon peak, whereas Pt doping caused a substantial red shift in the broadened plasmon peak. The analysis revealed that the diversity in these doping responses was related to the energy positions of the d electrons in the gold and silver atomic clusters and the positions of the doping atomic orbitals in the energy bands. The introduction of doping atoms altered the symmetry and gap size of the occupied and unoccupied orbitals, so multiple modes of single-particle transitions were involved in the excitation. An electron transfer analysis indicated a close correlation between excitation energy and the electron transfer of doping atoms. Finally, the differences in the symmetrically centered 11 × 2 doped atomic array were discussed using electron transfer analysis to validate the reliability of this analytical method. These findings elucidate the microscopic mechanisms of the evolution of plasmon peaks in doped atomic clusters and provide new insights into the rational control and application of plasmons in low-dimensional nanostructures.

RESUMO

A novel homologous surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-electrochemical (EC) dual-mode biosensor based on a 3D/2D polyhedral Au nanoparticle/MoOx nanosheet heterojunction (PAMS HJ) and target-triggered nonenzyme cascade autocatalytic DNA amplification (CADA) circuit was constructed for highly sensitive detection of microRNA (miRNA). Mixed-dimensional heterostructures were prepared by in situ growth of polyhedral Au nanoparticles (PANPs) on the surface of MoOx nanosheets (MoOx NSs) via a seed-mediated growth method. As a detection substrate, the resulting PAMS HJ shows the synergistic effects of both electromagnetic and chemical enhancements, efficient charge transfer, and robust stability, thus achieving a high SERS enhancement factor (EF) of 4.2 × 109 and strong EC sensing performance. Furthermore, the highly efficient molecular recognition between the target and smart lock probe and the gradually accelerated cascade amplification reaction further improved the selectivity and sensitivity of our sensing platform. The detection limits of miRNA-21 in SERS mode and EC mode were 0.22 and 2.69 aM, respectively. More importantly, the proposed dual-mode detection platform displayed excellent anti-interference and accuracy in the analysis of miRNA-21 in human serum and cell lysates, indicating its potential as a reliable tool in the field of biosensing and clinical analysis.

RESUMO

The recently reported two-dimensional (2D) Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite materials exhibit a plethora of advantages, making them an ideal candidate for constructing high-performance photodetectors. The mixed 2D/3D Cs2SnI2Cl2/Cs2TiI6 heterojunction is an S-scheme heterojunction and has excellent light trapping ability. Due to the spontaneous transfer of carriers caused by different work functions, a built-in electric field is formed in the heterojunction and the self-powered capability is provided. Through the nonadiabatic molecular dynamics (NAMD) method, it is found that the heterojunction exhibits fast photoresponse, low losses and efficient carrier separation. In addition, biaxial compressive strain can not only broaden the photoresponse of the Cs2SnI2Cl2/Cs2TiI6 heterojunction in the near-infrared region and enhance the optical absorption coefficient of the heterojunction, but also enhance the self-powered ability of the heterojunction. Our discoveries present a highly effective avenue for the future development of high-performance, self-powered hybrid optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Photonic crystals (PCs) are periodic dielectric structures with photonic bandgaps and they can be used to control and manipulate photons effectively. Novel photonic crystal materials with tunable bandgaps can be prepared by changing the refractive index of the dielectric or lattice parameters under external stimuli, while using temperature to adjust the photonic band gap is a simple and convenient method. In this paper, silica PCs having different pseudo-gaps in the range of 450-750 nm were prepared with colloidal SiO2 spheres of different sizes. Thermo-sensitive PNIPAM hydrogel was then infiltrated into the PCs to obtain PNIPAM-PCs, whose pseudo-gap blue-shifted when the temperature was changed from 24 to 34 °C and exhibited good reversibility. The PCs with tunable bandgaps are significant for the development of integrated photonic devices, sensors, and in detection and other technologies.

RESUMO

The prominent antibacterial and quorum sensing (QS) inhibition activity of aromatic plants can be used as a novel intervention strategy for attenuating bacterial pathogenicity. In the present work, a total of 29 chemical components were identified in the essential oil (EO) of Melaleuca bracteata leaves by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The principal component was methyleugenol, followed by methyl trans-cinnamate, with relative contents of 90.46% and 4.25%, respectively. Meanwhile, the antibacterial activity and the QS inhibitory activity of M. bracteata EO were first evaluated here. Antibacterial activity assay and MIC detection against seven pathogens (Dickeya dadantii Onc5, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25933, Pseudomonas spp., Escherichia coli ATCC25922, Serratia marcescens MG1, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 and Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC31532) demonstrated that S. aureus ATCC25933 and S. marcescens MG1 had the higher sensitivity to M. bracteata EO, while P. aeruginosa PAO1 displayed the strongest resistance to M. bracteata EO. An anti-QS (anti-quorum sensing) assay revealed that at sub-minimal inhibitory concentrations (sub-MICs), M. bracteata EO strongly interfered with the phenotype, including violacein production, biofilm biomass, and swarming motility, as well as N-hexanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (C6-HSL) production (i.e., a signaling molecule in C. violaceum ATCC31532) of C. violaceum. Detection of C6-HSL indicated that M. bracteata EO was capable of not only inhibiting C6-HSL production in C. violaceum, but also degrading the C6-HSL. Importantly, changes of exogenous C6-HSL production in C. violaceum CV026 revealed a possible interaction between M. bracteata EO and a regulatory protein (cviR). Additionally, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis demonstrated that the expression of QS-related genes (cviI, cviR, vioABCDE, hmsNR, lasA-B, pilE1, pilE3, and hcnB) was significantly suppressed. Conclusively, these results indicated that M. bracteata EO can act as a potential antibacterial agent and QS inhibitor (QSI) against pathogens, preventing and controlling bacterial contamination.

RESUMO

A novel type of self-assembling peptides has been developed by introducing the basic elastomeric ß-turn units of elastin protein into the amphiphilic peptide molecules. The self-assembly behaviors of such peptides are affected by the overall molecular hydrophobicity, charge distribution and temperature. The molecules with higher hydrophobicity exhibit better self-assembling capability to form long fibrillar nanostructures. For some peptides, the temperature increase can not only promote the self-assembly process but also change the self-assembly routes. The self-assembly of the peptides with two charges centralized on one terminal show higher dependence on temperature than the peptides with two charges distributed separately on the two terminals. The study probes into the self-assembly behaviors of short elastin-like peptides and is of great help for developing novel self-assembling peptides with thermo sensitivity.

RESUMO

Many essential oils (EOs) regulate the quorum-sensing (QS) system of pathogens and inhibit the virulence expression. Interference with QS can potentially reduce bacterial multidrug resistance and aid the biological control of bacterial disease. In the present work, the antibacterial and anti-QS activities of Cinnamomum camphora leaf EO were investigated. A total of 23 chemical components with relative levels ≥0.11%, including a large number of terpene compounds, were identified in C. camphora leaf EO by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The principal component was linalool, followed by eucalyptol, with relative levels of 51.57% and 22.07%, respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and antibacterial activity of C. camphora EO were examined, and P. aeruginosa and E. coli ATCC25922 showed the highest and lowest sensitivity to C. camphora EO, respectively. Tests of QS inhibitory activity revealed that C. camphora EO significantly decreased the production of violacein and biofilm biomass in C. violaceum, with the maximum inhibition rates of 63% and 77.64%, respectively, and inhibited the biofilm formation and swarming movement, independent of affecting the growth of C. violaceum. Addition of C. camphora EO also resulted in downregulation of the expression of the acyl-homoserine lactones (AHL) synthesis gene (cviI) and transcription regulator (cviR), and inhibited the expression of QS-regulated virulence genes, including vioA, vioB, vioC, vioD, vioE, lasA, lasB, pilE3, and hmsHNFR. Collectively, the prominent antibacterial activity and anti-QS activities clearly support that C. camphora EO acts as a potential antibacterial agent and QS inhibitor in the prevention of bacterial contamination.

RESUMO

A rapid, simple and sensitive ultra-fast liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometric method was developed and validated for simultaneous determination and tissue distribution studies of rosmarinic acid, salvianolic acid D, lithospermic acid and salvianolic acid B in rats after intravenous administration of salvianolic acid for injection. The tissue homogenate samples were pretreated by protein precipitation with pre-cooled acetonitrile. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Waters Cortecs UPLC C18 column (1.6 µm, 2.1 × 100 mm) with a mobile phase composed of 0.1% formic acid-water and 0.1% formic acid-acetonitrile. Analytes were detected by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and quantitated using multiple reaction monitoring. The method was fully validated. The calibration curves for the four phenolic acids were linear in the given concentration ranges. The precisions (relative standard deviation) in the measurement of quality control samples were <10% and the accuracies (relative error) were in the range of 0.28-11.22%. The reliable method was successfully applied to the tissue distribution studies of the four phenolic acids. The results showed that rosmarinic acid, salvianolic acid D, lithospermic acid and salvianolic acid B were rapidly distributed in tissues with the major amount found in kidney, and little crossed the blood-brain barrier. The developed method and the results provide a basis for further studies.

RESUMO

Tunable supramolecular assembly has found various applications in biomedicine, molecular catalysis, optoelectronics, and nanofabrication. Unlike traditional covalent conjugation, non-covalent introduction of a photoswitchable moiety enables reversible photomodulation of non-photosensitive dipeptide supramolecular assembly. Under light illumination, a long-lived photoacid generator releases a proton and mediates the dissociation of dipeptide-based organogel, thereby resulting in sol formation. Under darkness, the photoswitchable moiety entraps a proton, resulting in gel regeneration. Furthermore, accompanying the isothermal recycled gel-sol transition in a spatially controlled manner, renewable patterns are spontaneously fabricated. This new concept of light-controlled phase transition of amino acid-based supramolecular assemblies will open up the possibility of wide applications.

RESUMO

Traditional Chinese medicine consists of complex phytochemical constituents. Selecting appropriate analytical markers of traditional Chinese medicine is a critical step in quality control. Currently, the combination of fingerprinting and efficacy evaluation is considered as a useful method for screening active ingredients in complex mixtures. This study was designed to develop an orthogonal partial least squares model for screening bioactive quality control markers of QishenYiqi dripping pills based on the fingerprint-efficacy relationship. First, the chemical fingerprints of 49 batches of QishenYiqi dripping pill samples were established by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with a photodiode array detector. Second, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry was exploited to systematically investigate the 36 copossessing fingerprint components in QishenYiqi dripping pills. The vascular protective activity of QishenYiqi dripping pills was determined by using a cell counting kit-8 assay. Finally, fingerprint-efficacy relationship was established by orthogonal partial least squares model. The results indicated that ten components exhibited strong correlation with vascular protective activity, and these were preliminarily screened as quality control markers. The present study provided a novel idea for the study of the pharmacodynamic material basis and quality evaluation of QishenYiqi dripping pills.

RESUMO

In this study, a rapid and reliable ultra-fast liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of eight active ingredients, including astragaloside IV, ononin, tanshinol, protocatechualdehyde, protocatechuic acid, salvianolic acid D, rosmarinic acid and ginsenoside Rg1 , in rat plasma. The plasma samples were pretreated by protein precipitation with acetonitrile. Chromatographic separation was performed on a Waters Acquity UPLC® BEH C18 column (1.7 µm particles, 2.1 × 100 mm). The mobile phase consisted of 0.1% aqueous formic acid (A)-acetonitrile with 0.1% formic acid (B) at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. Quantification was performed on a triple quadruple tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization by multiple reaction monitoring both in the negative and in the positive ion mode. The lower limit of quantification of tanshinol was 2.0 ng/mL and the others were 5.0 ng/mL. The extraction recoveries, matrix effects, intra- and inter-day precision and accuracy of eight tested components were all within acceptable limits. The validated method was successfully applied to the pharmacokinetic study of the eight active constituents after intragastric administration of three doses (1.0, 3.0, 6.0 g/kg body weight) of Qishen Yiqi Dripping Pills to rats.

RESUMO

The study is aimed to develop a method in evaluation of the bioactive consistency of cardiotonic pill (CP). HepG2 cell line was employed as a biological detector. After treated with CP for 24 h, gene chip and qRT-PCR were used to select m RNAs that can represent the bioactivity of CP. Then similarity between different batches of CP were calculated based on expression levels of marker genes to evaluate the bioactive consistency of CP. Marker genes were selected according to the criteria as follows: 1 fold change < 0.67 or > 1.5; 2 potential relevance to curative effects; 3 extensive involvement in the cellular functions and clustering analysis categories; 4 dose-dependent effect. A total of 10 genes were selected as bioactive markers of CP. Angular cosine was calculated to evaluate the similarity between two samples. The method was validated using intra-day precision and inter-day precision. Using angular cosine similarity, the intra-day and inter-day precision were 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively. The similarities of 6 batches of CDPs ranged from 0.992 to 0.999, and 1 batch of Compound Danshen Tablet was 0.534. The established method is specific and accurate, and provides comprehensive and objective evaluation of bioactive quality of CDPs. It can also benefit the bioactive consistency evaluation of other compounds in traditional Chinese medicines.

RESUMO

In order to clarify the chemical constituents in Yangxue Qingnao granule, we established a rapid ultra-performance liquid chromatography/orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS(E)) method. According to the high resolution MS spectra data, fragmentation ion information and retention time,142 peaks were identified or tentatively presumed by comparison with reference standards data and literature reports. The herbal sources of these peaks were assigned. The results implied that phenolic acids, alkaloids, anthraquinones, phthalides, monoterpene glycosides were included in the main components of Yangxue Qingnao granule. The method is rapid for systematically elucidation of the constituents of Yangxue Qingnao granule and the results would facilitate the quality control of Yangxue Qingnao granule for safe and efficacious use.

RESUMO

Due to its excellent photocatalytic performance over the last few years, graphitic-like carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has garnered considerable notice as a photocatalyst. Nevertheless, several limitations, including small surface area, the rates at which photo-generated electrons and holes recombine are swift, and the inefficient separation and transport of photoexcited carriers continue to impede its solar energy utilization. To overcome those limitations in single-component g-C3N4, constructing a heterogeneous photocatalytic system has emerged as an effective way. Among the various studies involving the incorporation of hetero composite materials to design heterojunctions, among the most promising approaches is to assemble a Z-scheme photocatalytic configuration. The Z-scheme configuration is essential because it facilitates efficient photocarrier separation and exhibits superior redox ability in separated electrons and holes. Moreover, ternary composites have demonstrated enhanced photocatalytic activities and reinforced photostability. Ternary Z-scheme heterostructures constructed with g-C3N4 possess all the above-mentioned merits and provide a pioneering strategy for implementing photocatalytic systems for environmental and energy sustainability. A summary of the latest technological advancements toward design and fabrication in ternary all-solid-state Z-scheme (ASSZ) and direct Z-scheme (DZ) photocatalysts built on g-C3N4 is presented in this review. Furthermore, the review also discusses the application of ternary Z-scheme photocatalytic architecture established on g-C3N4.

RESUMO

To develop highly accurate and ultrasensitive strategies is of great importance for the clinical measurement, in particular, the detection of cancer biomarkers. Herein, we synthesized an ultrasensitive TiO2/MXene/CdS QDs (TiO2/MX/CdS) heterostructure as a photoelectrochemical immunosensor, which favors energy levels matching and fast electron transfer from CdS to TiO2 in the help of ultrathin MXene nanosheet. Dramatic photocurrent quenching can be observed upon incubation of the TiO2/MX/CdS electrode by Cu2+ solution from 96-well microplate, which caused by the formation of CuS and subsequent CuxS (x = 1, 2), reducing the absorption of light and boosting the electron-hole recombination upon irradiation. As a result, the as-prepared biosensor demonstrates a linearly increased photocurrent quenching percentage (Q%) value with CEA concentration ranging from 1 fg/mL to 10 ng/mL, as well as a low detection limit of 0.24 fg/mL. Benefit from its excellent stability, high selectivity and good reproducibility of as-prepared PEC immunosensor, we believe that this proposed strategy might provide new opportunities for clinical diagnosis of CEA and other tumor markers.

RESUMO

Smart bimetallic core@shell nanoparticles were fabricated based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) decorated with pH-sensitive polymer shell. Concretely, AuNPs having poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) on the surface were first fabricated through surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP). Then, they were mixed with selected metal precursor solutions followed by reduction using reducing agent. The metal NPs thus introduced were uniformly distributed in P4VP polymer shells. In order to explore the diversity and viable function of the resultant nanostructures, we controlled the size of AuNP, pH, selectivity of metal precursors, etc. We investigated the structural alteration during the sequential synthetic process. The bimetallic nanostructures of AuNP@P4VP nanocomposites containing another type of metal NP at the P4VP periphery exhibit a controlled sensing property in terms of the change in the refractive index of surrounding media and a typical electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation reaction.

RESUMO

In recent years, we have witnessed numerous indoor fires caused by the flammable properties of cotton. Flame-retardant cotton deserves our attention. A novel boric acid and diethylenetriaminepenta (methylene-phosphonic acid) (DTPMPA) ammonium salt-based chelating coordination flame retardant (BDA) was successfully prepared for cotton fabrics, and a related retardant mechanism with ion transfer was investigated. BDA can form a stable chemical and coordination bond on the surface of cotton fibers by a simple three-curing finishing process. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of BDA-90 increased to 36.1%, and the LOI value of cotton fabric became 30.3% after 50 laundering cycles (LCs) and exhibited excellent durable flame retardancy. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods were used to observe the bonding mode and morphology of BDA on cotton fibers. A synergistic flame-retardant mechanism of condensed and gas phases was concluded from thermogravimetry (TG), cone calorimeter tests, and TG-FTIR. The test results of whiteness and tensile strength showed that the physical properties of BDA-treated cotton fabric were well maintained.

RESUMO

The nanoparticle dispersity and interfacial property could be considered as a basis of their further application in the nanostructured materials. In this paper, the dispersity and interfacial phenomena of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) modified gold nanoparticles were investigated. Firstly, such polymer/gold nanocomposites were demonstrated to have a good dispersity in water, tetrahydrofuran, alcohols and also chloroform, so they were used to entrap fluorescent dye-labelled lipids in chloroform as nanocontainers and subsequently delivery the fluorescent lipids into water as nanocarriers. Secondly, when the nanocomposites in water/chloroform mixture were heated above 35 degrees C, the nanocomposite particles could be partially transferred from water into chloroform across the interface, and they would come back into water again as cooling, displaying a reversible thermal response. Moreover, such polymer/gold nanocomposites at the immiscible water/toluene fluids preferred to assembly into 2-dimensional membranes with variable density at the water/oil interface. The special dispersion properties of the poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/gold nanocomposites provide many potentials in the future.

RESUMO

Extension of the light absorption range and a reduction of the possibility of the photo-generated electron-hole pair recombination are the main tasks to break the bottleneck of the photocatalytic application of TiO2. In this paper, we systematically investigate the electronic and optical properties of Sc-doped, C-doped, and Sc/C-codoped TiO2 (101) surfaces using spin-polarized DFT+U calculations. The absorption coefficient of the Sc/C-codoped TiO2 (101) surfaces were enhanced the most compared with the other two doped systems in the high energy region of visible light, which can be attributed to the shallow impurity states. Furthermore, we studied the optical absorption properties with the change of the impurity concentration. The Sc/C-codoped TiO2 (101) surface with 5.56% impurity concentration exhibited optimal photocatalytic performance in the visible region. These results may be helpful for designing the high-performance of the photocatalysts by doping.

RESUMO

In recent years, zwitterionic polymers have been frequently reported to modify various surfaces to enhance hydrophilicity, antifouling and antibacterial properties, which show significant potentials particularly in biological systems. This review focuses on the fabrication, properties and various applications of zwitterionic polymer grafted surfaces. The "graft-from" and "graft-to" strategies, surface grafting copolymerization and post zwitterionization methods were adopted to graft lots type of the zwitterionic polymers on different inorganic/organic surfaces. The inherent hydrophilicity and salt affinity of the zwitterionic polymers endow the modified surfaces with antifouling, antibacterial and lubricating properties, thus the obtained zwitterionic surfaces show potential applications in biosystems. The zwitterionic polymer grafted membranes or stationary phases can effectively separate plasma, water/oil, ions, biomolecules and polar substrates. The nanomedicines with zwitterionic polymer shells have "stealth" effect in the delivery of encapsulated drugs, siRNA or therapeutic proteins. Moreover, the zwitterionic surfaces can be utilized as wound dressing, self-healing or oil extraction materials. The zwitterionic surfaces are expected as excellent support materials for biosensors, they are facing the severe challenges in the surface protection of marine facilities, and the dense ion pair layers may take unexpected role in shielding the grafted surfaces from strong electromagnetic field.
