RESUMO

To determine the tip position of the central venous catheter (CVC) in patients with dialysis, the guidelines recommend that it be determined using chest radiography (CXR) after catheterization, without fluoroscopy. However, some researchers have proposed that transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) can replace CXR, but this has not been widely adopted. This study aimed to determine which of the two aforementioned methods is more suitable for locating the tip position of the CVC. This prospective study included 160 patients who underwent hemodialysis at our hospital from March 2021 to December 2022. After inserting the CVC through the internal jugular vein, we used transthoracic echocardiography and CXR to determine the tip of the CVC and compared the results with those of computed tomography (CT). In the comparison between TTE and CXR for locating the CVC tip, we obtained three main findings. (1) TTE was associated with fewer misdiagnosed cases than CXR. (2) TTE provided higher sensitivity (similar sensitivity in position 2), specificity, positive/negative predictive values, and accuracy than CXR. (3) When comparing the receiver operating characteristic curves of TTE and CXR, the area under the curve (95% confidence interval) for the former was larger. Additionally, we made anatomical discoveries: the "hyperechoic triangle" recognized by TTE was equivalent to the entrance of the superior vena cava into the right atrium shown by transesophageal transthoracic echocardiography. TTE is more suitable than CXR as the first examination for CVC tip localization, as it improves diagnostic accuracy and reduces X-ray radiation damage.

RESUMO

To study the difference in transcriptome level of fatty acid metabolism pathway in Bamei pork and the difference of pork quality caused by the difference. In this study, Bamei pigs breeding in Huzhu farm of QingHai province were selected as the test object, compared with Gansu Black pigs. Four indexes of nutmeg acid (DX1), palmitic acid (DX2), stearic acid (DX3) and linoleic acid (DX4) were set. The expression profiles of fat metabolism related genes between the two groups samples were analysed by GCMS metabolomics and transcriptomics, then coexpression network analysis were conducted to obtain phenotypic related genes. The results showed that the metabolic levels of DX3 and DX4 were significantly higher than those of other fatty acids. Among these differences, the ENSSSCG00000024681 (G1) and ENSSSCG00000036883 (G2) genes play important regulatory roles in fatty acid metabolism, and the upregulated expression of their gene obviously affects the level of fatty acid metabolism, thereby affecting the quality and taste of pork. In addition, we found that there was a good correlation between the same lines, and the genetic traits of the hybrid lines of Bamei pig and Black pig are more inclined to Bamei pig. In the independent fatty acid metabolism, "Mg2+"and flavin adenine dinucleotide are more active, which plays an important role in energy utilization. Therefore, we can be inferred that the metabolism of stearic acid and linoleic acid are important fatty acids for pork quality. It also further confirms that the research method of combined omics is of great significance for the study of species traits and gene functions.

RESUMO

Endometriosis(EMs) is a stubborn gynecological disease caused by persistent immune-inflammatory effects, and is known as "benign tumor" because of its similar characteristics to malignant tumors. National physician master Professor BAN Xiu-wen believes that the spread of damp-evil is the pathologic foundation for inflammatory response of ectopic endometrium; accumulation of blood stasis is the pathological product of continuous inflammatory attacks, and the combination of dampness and stasis is the main pathogenesis for refractory EMs. Modern researches have shown that immune-inflammatory effect is the key mechanism for development of EMs, and is closely related to cell autophagy, all of which have made it become the hot spots in research of the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of EMs. Therefore, with immune-inflammatory effect as the breakthrough point in this research, and with reference to the related research of autophagy, the correlation between "combination of dampness and stasis" and abnormal autophagy-induced immune inflammatory response in ectopic endometrium was discussed, to provide guidance for the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine and modern research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Physical activity is an important part of the diabetes management plan. However, the effects caused by different training durations and styles of Tai Chi have not been evaluated. We conducted an updated systematic review of the effects of Tai Chi on patients with type 2 diabetes based on different training durations and styles. METHODS: We performed a search for Chinese and English studies in 8 databases. Two reviewers independently selected the eligible trials and conducted a critical appraisal of the methodological quality. RESULTS: Seventeen trials were included. Tai Chi was found to have reduced fasting blood glucose (FBG) [SMD = - 0.54, 95% CI (- 0.91, - 0.16), P = 0.005] and HbA1c [SMD = - 0.68, 95% CI (- 1.17, - 0.19), P = 0.006] overall, compared with a control group. Considering the subgroup analysis, the pooled results showed that 24 movements or Yang-style Tai Chi did not significantly reduce FBG after a duration of ≤3 months [SMD = - 0.46, 95% CI (- 1.42, 0.50), P = 0.35] or > 3 months [SMD = - 0.50, 95% CI (- 1.49, 0.49), P = 0.32], nor did it reduce HbA1c [SMD = - 1.22, 95% CI (- 2.90, 0.47), P = 0.16] after a duration > 3 months in all studies. However, other styles of Tai Chi significantly reduced FBG [SMD = - 0.90, 95% CI (- 1.28, - 0.52), P < 0.00001] and HbA1c [SMD = - 0.90, 95% CI (- 1.28, - 0.52), P < 0.00001] after a duration > 3 months, while no significant reduction in FBG [SMD = - 0.34, 95% CI (- 0.76, 0.08), P = 0.12] or HbA1c [SMD = - 0.34, 95% CI (- 0.76, 0.08), P = 0.12] was found after a duration ≤3 months. CONCLUSIONS: Tai Chi seems to be effective in treating type 2 diabetes. Different training durations and styles result in variable effectiveness. The evidence was insufficient to support whether long-term Tai Chi training was more effective.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The psychophysical responses induced by verum acupuncture are characterized by a constellation of unique subjective sensory responses commonly termed De Qi. Furthermore, a variety of sham interventions have been used as a control for acupuncture clinical trials. Indeed, one such control has been mock laser which has been used as control intervention in several acupuncture clinical controlled trials. The current study aim was to examine the De Qi sensory responses and its related characteristics elicited from acupuncture and compare them to those reported following sham laser in participants enrolled in a clinical trial. METHODS: The study was embedded in a multi-center, two-arm randomised clinical trial, which evaluated the effect of acupuncture on lateral elbow pain. De Qi was assessed using the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale (MASS). Ninety-six participants were randomly allocated to receive either acupuncture (n = 47) or mock laser (n = 49) at the acupoints LI 10 and LI 11. RESULTS: Participants in both intervention groups reported similar De Qi psychophysical characteristics; however, both intensity and frequency of the individually perceived De Qi characteristics were significantly higher in the acupuncture group. 'Soreness', 'deep pressure', and 'fullness-distension' in the acupuncture group and 'tingling', and 'sharp pain' in mock laser group, were identified as the leading characteristics. Similar level of MASS De Qi Index (MDI) scores were reported for 'Hong Kong-China' and 'Australia-Italy' with a significantly higher level of De Qi reported by 'Hong Kong-China'. Furthermore, two distinct De Qi categories were identified, namely De Qi (in line with classical sensory responses of Suan, Ma, Zhang, and Zhong) and pain. CONCLUSIONS: Subjective 'somatic or interoceptive awareness' should be taken into account when De Qi psychophysical responses are examined. The study accentuates the necessity and the significance of further research into interoception phenomenon which may contribute to a better understanding of the placebo effect and De Qi psychophysical responses. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the genes playing a functional role in differentiation of human hepatic progenitor cells to hepatocytes by comparing the gene expression and functional profiles of the two cell types. METHODS: mRNA was isolated from human fetal hepatic progenitor cells (hFHPCs) and functional hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) that had differentiated from hFHPCs. Global gene expression profiling was performed on triplicate samples of each cell type. The differential gene expression was analyzed using volcano plot filtering and functional annotation was performed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery (DAVID). RESULTS: Compared to the hFHPCs, the HLCs had a total of 1878 significantly up-regulated genes and 1441 significantly down-regulated genes. The up-regulated genes included functional groups related to the hexose metabolic process, positive regulation of apoptosis, angiogenesis, regulation of cell motion, and protein amino acid phosphorylation. The down-regulated genes included functional groups related to cell cycle, DNA metabolic process, cytoskeleton organization, regulation cell cycle, and chromosome segregation. CONCLUSION: Differentiation of HLCs from hFHPCs may involve increased expression of genes related to hepatocyte function and decreased expression of genes related to cell cycle regulation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to evaluate whether exogenous CRT was beneficial for alleviating MR-induced injury by suppressing ER stress in rat MMECs. METHODS: MMECs were pretreated with CRT (25 pg/mL) for 12 hours, followed by the exposure to 2.856 GHz radiation at a mean power density of 30 mW/cm(2) for six minutes. MR-induced injury in MMECs was evaluated by LDH leakage, apoptosis, and cell viability analysis. The expression of GRP78, CRT, CHOP, Bcl-2, and Bax were examined by Western blot analysis to reflect ER stress response and ER stress-related apoptosis. RESULTS: MR induced marked MMECs injury, as shown by increased LDH leakage and apoptosis rate and decreased cell viability. MR also induced excessive ER stress, characterized by increased expression of GRP78 and CRT, and ER stress-related apoptotic signaling as well, as shown by the upregulation of CHOP and Bax and the downregulation of Bcl-2. Exogenous CRT pretreatment remarkably attenuated MR-induced cell apoptosis and LDH leakage, ER stress, and activation of the ER stress-related apoptotic signaling. CONCLUSIONS: Exogenous CRT attenuates MR-induced ER stress-related apoptosis by suppressing CHOP-mediated apoptotic signaling pathways in MMECs.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi Decoction(BZYQD) is a traditional formula commonly used in China, known for its effects in tonifying Qi and raising Yang. It can relieve symptoms of cognitive impairment such as forgetfulness and lack of concentration caused by qi deficiency, which is common in aging and debilitating. However, much of the current research on BZYQD has been focused on its impact on the digestive system, leaving its molecular mechanisms in improving cognitive function largely unexplored. AIM OF THE STUDY: Cognitive decline in the aging central nervous system is intrinsically linked to oxidative damage. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic mechanism of BZYQD in treating mild cognitive impairment caused by qi deficiency, particularly through repair of mitochondrial oxidative damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A rat model of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was established by administering reserpine subcutaneously for two weeks, followed by a two-week treatment with BZYQD/GBE. In vitro experiments were conducted to assess the effects of BZYQD on neuronal cells using a H2O2-induced oxidative damage model in PC12 cells. The open field test and the Morris water maze test evaluated the cognitive and learning memory abilities of the rats. HE staining and TEM were employed to observe morphological changes in the hippocampus and its mitochondria. Mitochondrial activity, ATP levels, and cellular viability were measured using assay kits. Protein expression in the SIRT3/MnSOD/OGG1 pathway was analyzed in tissues and cells through western blotting. Levels of 8-OH-dG in mitochondria extracted from tissues and cells were quantified using ELISA. Mitochondrial morphology in PC12 cells was visualized using Mito Red, and mitochondrial membrane potential was assessed using the JC-1 kit. RESULTS: BZYQD treatment significantly improved cognitive decline caused by reserpine in rats, as well as enhanced mitochondrial morphology and function in the hippocampus. Our findings indicate that BZYQD mitigates mtDNA oxidative damage in rats by modulating the SIRT3/MnSOD/OGG1 pathway. In PC12 cells, BZYQD reduced oxidative damage to mitochondria and mtDNA in H2O2-induced conditions and was associated with changes in the SIRT3/MnSOD/OGG1 pathway. CONCLUSION: BZYQD effectively counteracts reserpine-induced mild cognitive impairment and ameliorates mitochondrial oxidative stress damage through the SIRT3/MnSOD/OGG1 pathway.

RESUMO

Endothelial cells (ECs) are directly exposed to hypoxia and contribute to injury during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. Hypoxic preconditioning (HPC) protects ECs against hypoxia injury. This study aimed to explore whether HPC attenuates hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury by suppressing excessive endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in cultured microvascular ECs (MVECs) from rat heart. MVECs injury was measured by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage, cytoskeleton destruction, and apoptosis. Expression of glucose regulating protein 78 (GRP78) and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), activation of caspase-12 (pro-apoptosis factors) and phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) were detected by western blot analysis. HPC attenuated H/R-induced LDH leakage, cytoskeleton destruction, and cell apoptosis, as shown by flow cytometry, Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, caspase-3 activation and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling. HPC suppressed H/R-induced ERS, as shown by a decrease in expression of GRP78 and CHOP, and caspase-12 activation. HPC enhanced p38 MAPK phosphorylation but decreased that of protein kinase R-like ER kinase (PERK, upstream regulator of CHOP). SB202190 (an inhibitor of p38 MAPK) abolished HPC-induced cytoprotection, downregulation of GRP78 and CHOP, and activation of caspase-12, as well as PERK phosphorylation. HPC may protect MVECs against H/R injury by suppressing CHOP-dependent apoptosis through p38 MAPK mediated downregulation of PERK activation.

RESUMO

A method based on ultrasound-assisted emulsification-microextraction (USAEME) was proposed in this contribution for the determination of ethyl carbamate (EC) in alcoholic beverages using gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. To achieve the determination of EC in alcoholic beverages, the influences on the extraction efficiency of type and volume of extraction solvent, temperature, ionic strength, alcohol content, and extraction time were studied, once the extraction solvent had been selected. The optimized conditions were 200.0 µL of chloroform at 30 °C during 5 min with 15% (m/v) sodium chloride addition. The detection limit, relative standard deviations, linear range, and recoveries under the optimized conditions were 0.03 µg L(-1), 4.2-6.1%, 0.1-50.0 µg L(-1), and 80.5-87.9%, respectively. Moreover, the feasibility of the present method was also validated by real samples. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that USAEME has been applied to determine a strongly hydrophilic compound in alcoholic beverages.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of coronary flow reserve measured by transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTDE) associated with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) stress for detecting coronary stenosis in patients with chest pain. METHODS: A total of 125 patients scheduled for elective coronary angiography (CAG) due to chest pain were recruited. ATP stress echocardiography were performed to measure CFR in left anterior descending (LAD) by TTDE with 2 days pre-CAG. Coronary flow reserve (CFR) was calculated as peak diastolic velocity during maximum hyperemia (PDV2) divided by baseline (PDV1). According to the coronary angiography results, all patients were divided into group A (stenosis < 50% in LAD, n = 57), group B (stenosis of 50% - 75% in LAD, n = 20) and group C (stenosis > 75% in LAD, n = 48). Then CFR was compared among three groups. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to assess the value of CFR for detecting LAD stenosis. RESULTS: CFR was significantly different among three groups (group A: 3.02 ± 0.85, group B: 2.49 ± 0.65, group C: 1.82 ± 0.56; all P < 0.01). With ROC analysis, CFR < 2.2 was the best cut-off value for diagnosing significant LAD stenosis (area under curve: 0.86 (95% CI 0.80 to 0.93)), with sensitivity of 81%, specificity of 83% and accuracy of 82%; CFR < 2.2 for diagnosing LAD stenosis > 50% (area under curve: 0.81 (95%CI 0.74 - 0.89, P < 0.01)), with a sensitivity of 59%, a specificity of 82% and an accuracy of 70%. CONCLUSIONS: CFR measured by TTDE associated with ATP stress is a valuable tool for screening significant stenosis in patients with chest pain. Its advantages are non-invasiveness, easy availability, safety and inexpensiveness.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between left atrial size and left ventricular filling pressure (LVFP) and the value of left atrial size assessment on detecting diastolic dysfunction in hypertensive patients with preserved LVEF by echocardiography. METHODS: Echocardiography was performed in 346 hypertensive patients with preserved LVEF(≥ 50%), left atrial size including left atrial diameter (LAD) and left atrial area (LAA) was measured and indexed to body surface area (LADI, LAAI). The ratio of early diastolic transmitral velocity to early diastolic mitral annular velocity (E/Em) was determined and LVFP was calculated with the formula: LVFP = 1.24×E/Em + 1.9. Patients were divided into diastolic dysfunction group [DD group, LVFP > 15 mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa), n = 81] and normal diastolic function group (NDF group, LVFP ≤ 15 mm Hg, n = 265). RESULTS: As compared to patients in NDF group, the patients in DD group had larger LA [LADI: (21.4 ± 2.6) mm/m(2) vs. (19.6 ± 2.4) mm/m(2); LAAI: (12.1 ± 2.6) cm(2)/m(2) vs. (10.4 ± 1.7)cm(2)/m(2); all P < 0.01]. LA size parameters were positively correlated with LVFP (r = 0.211-0.450, all P < 0.01), LAAI was best correlated with LVFP (r = 0.450, P < 0.01). ROC analysis showed that LAAI ≥ 11.4 cm(2)/m(2) diagnosed DD with a sensitivity of 63%, specificity of 74% and accuracy of 72%. CONCLUSION: Left atrium dilation correlates positively with LVFP in hypertensive patients with preserved LVEF. The LAAI is a more accurate parameter for identifying patients with diastolic dysfunction in this cohort.

RESUMO

In the present study, it was aimed to evaluate whether there is an objective tongue image indicator that could be used to evaluate malignant risk of thyroid nodules through a cross sectional study. From December 2018 to December 2020, the TFDA-1 digital tongue-face diagnostic instrument was used to collect the tongue images. TDAS 2.0 software was used for tongue image analysis. A standardized database was constructed by combining patient physical examination results and tongue image analysis results. The relationship between tongue image index and TI-RADS classification of thyroid nodules was tested. A total of 5,900 cases were collected and 4,615 cases were included in the present study after excluding 154 cases due to incomplete information, 1,221 cases with thyroid nodules were separated into 417 cases TI-RADS 2 group, 693 cases in TI-RADS 3 group and 111 cases in TI-RADS 4 group. Without considering confounding factors, tongue image indexes zhiCon, zhiASM, zhiENT, zhiMEAN, zhiClrB, zhiClrR, zhiClrG, zhiClrI, zhiClrL and zhiClrY were significantly different among the three groups (P<0.05). Excluding the influence of age, sex, body mass index, smoking and drinking, the results of one-way variance linear trend analysis showed that the values of zhiCon, zhiENT and zhiMEAN increased with the increasing TI-RADS category, while the values of zhiASM decreased with the increase of TI-RADS category. Tongue texture index may be helpful for differentiating the benign and malignant of thyroid nodules.

RESUMO

Objective: Prior research has shown mixed results regarding the effectiveness of combining donepezil and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to treat mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In light of this, our study aims to examine the efficacy and safety of this treatment approach for patients with MCI. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of various databases, including Medline (via PubMed), Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Wanfang Database from their inception to November 16, 2022. The selection of studies, risk of bias assessment, and data extraction were carried out independently by two authors. The statistical analysis was performed using STATA. Results: Our meta-analysis included a total of 35 studies with 2,833 patients, published between 2008 and 2022, with intervention durations ranging from 4 weeks to 12 months. However, most of the studies had a high risk of detection bias. Our findings indicated that the combination of donepezil and TCM significantly improved the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score (weighted mean difference [WMD] = 2.79, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.82 to 3.75) and the Barthel Index score (WMD = 9.20, 95% CI: 5.39 to 13.00) compared to donepezil alone. However, subgroup analyses showed that the MoCA score did not increase significantly in patients with MCI resulting from cerebrovascular disease (WMD = 1.47, 95% CI: -0.02 to 2.96). Conclusion: The combination of donepezil and TCM may have a more positive effect on cognitive function and activities of daily living in patients with MCI compared to the use of donepezil alone. However, due to the limited quality of the studies included in our analysis, these findings should be interpreted with caution.

RESUMO

AIMS: To determine FOXO1 (forkhead box O1) expression in the human endometrium during the menstrual cycle and decidua of early pregnancy, as well as FOXO1 regulation in endometrial stromal cells (ESC). METHODS: Immunohistochemistry, RT-qPCR, and Western blot analyses evaluated cellular localization and altered FOXO1 expression in the endometrium during the menstrual cycle and decidua of early pregnancy (proliferative phase, n = 12; early-secretory phase, n = 7; mid-secretory phase, n = 10; late-secretory phase, n = 10; early pregnancy, n = 12). Using RT-qPCR and Western blot, we studied the regulation of FOXO1 by 8-bromo-cAMP, 4-pregnene-3,20-dione, 17ß-estradiol, and human chorionic gonadotrophin in ESC (n = 5). RESULTS: The expression level of FOXO1 in human endometrial tissue fluctuated with the menstrual cycle. If pregnancy occurred, the expression of FOXO1 was further increased (p < 0.05) and cAMP regulated FOXO1 expression in ESC. In addition, 4-pregnene-3,20-dione cooperatively stimulated FOXO1 expression with cAMP. We also observed FOXO1 expression during in vitro cAMP-induced decidualization. CONCLUSIONS: The pattern of FOXO1 expression suggests a potential role for FOXO1 in implantation and decidualization.

RESUMO

Sixteen PAHs in surface sediments at 28 sites throughout Fenhe reservoir and watershed were measured. The ∑PAHs concentrations ranged from 539.0 to 6281.7 with the mean of 2214.8ng/g. The 2-3 rings PAHs, contributing 55 percent to ∑PAHs, were the dominant species. Twenty-eight sites were grouped into three segments: Fenhe principal stream, estuaries of main branch streams, and Fenhe reservoir. ∑PAHs was highest in the estuaries of main branch streams. The ecological risk assessment was studied by biological thresholds. The results showed levels of PAHs might cause mild but not acute adverse biological effects. In addition, PAHs ratios, PCA/MLR and hierarchical clustering analysis were applied to evaluate the possible sources. Coal combustion (35 percent), diesel and gasoline emissions (29 percent and 16 percent, respectively) might be the important sources. For sites in Fenhe reservoir, the major sources were complex, while other two segments were mainly influenced by coal combustion source.

RESUMO

The concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in sediments from the Fenhe reservoir and watershed were detected at 28 sites in wet and dry seasons. The ∑(123)PCBs ranged from n.d. to 126.49 ng g(-1) dw. The dominated congeners were tri-PCBs (34.29%) and tetra-PCBs (24.05%). In the Fenhe reservoir, ∑(123)PCBs presented a decreasing trend, while percentages of low chlorinated congeners showed an increasing trend. For the temporal variations, PCBs homologues profiles of sediment samples and spatial distribution of ∑(123)PCBs for the two periods were similar (with CD = 0.021 and r(2) = 0.999 respectively), although PCBs concentrations in the wet season were significantly higher than in the dry season. PCA was applied to analyze the possible sources for PCBs, suggesting that PCBs might be mainly influenced by Aroclor 1016 and 1242. Compared with 3 established sediment quality guidelines, levels of PCBs in sediments of the investigated watershed might have a potential biological impact, especially in the wet season.

RESUMO

Purpose: The goal of this study was to see if electroacupuncture was effective and safe in the management of cerebral infarction. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were used to conduct a comprehensive literature survey. Methods: Basic features of 7 studies were identified using the searching strategy. The investigation was found in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science, with the most recent search being in March 2022. "Electroacupuncture," "cerebral infarction," and their permutations were among the MeSH terms and free words used. As literature, two reviewers independently used a standardized form to gather pertinent data from qualifying research. Results: 157 literatures were identified and evaluated. Electroacupuncture improved the BI score in individuals with cerebral infarction (mean difference = 0.10, 95 percent CI: 0.00-0.20, p = 0.04). Electroacupuncture enhanced BI score in individuals with cerebral infarction (mean difference = 0.10, 95 percent CI: 0.00-0.20, p = 0.04). The effects of electroacupuncture increased Fugl-Meyer index in patients with cerebral infarction (mean difference = 25.92, 95% CI: 25.28-26.56, p < 0.00001). Electroacupuncture effects decreased CSS in patients with cerebral infarction in the experiment group (mean difference = -2.10, 95% CI: -2.53--1.67, p < 0.0001). Electroacupuncture also reduced CSS individuals with cerebral infarction in the control group; however, there was no statistically significant (risk difference = 0.06, 95 percent CI: 0.02-0.13, p = 0.12). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that electroacupuncture helped decreased CSS in patients with cerebral infarction.

RESUMO

Objective. To explore the genetic traits of Kidney-yang deficiency syndrome (KDS). Design. Twelve KDS subjects and three spouses from a typical KDS family were recruited. Their genomic DNA samples were genotyped by Affymetrix 100K single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays. The linkage disequilibrium (LD) SNPs were generated using GeneChip DNA analysis software (GDAS, Affymetrix). Genes located within 100 bp of the flanks of LD SNPs were mined via GeneView. 29 exons of the doublecortin domain containing 5 (DCDC5), a representative gene within the flank of an LD SNP, were resequenced. Results. Five LD SNPs display midrange linkage with KDS. Two genes with established functions, DCDC5 and Leucyl-tRNA synthetase, were mined in the flanks of LD SNPs. Resequencing of DCDC5 revealed a nonsynonymous variation, in which 3764T/A was replaced by C/G. Accordingly, the Ser(1172) was substituted by Pro(1172). The S1172P substitution effect was evaluated as "possibly damaging" by PolyPhen. Conclusion. We have identified a genomic variation of DCDC5 based on the LD SNPs derived from a KDS family. DCDC5 and other genes surrounding these SNPs display some relationships with key symptoms of KDS.
