RESUMO

Conversion of naturally occurring sugars, the most abundant biomass resources on Earth, to fuels and chemicals provides a sustainable and carbon-neutral alternative to the current fossil resource-based processes. Tungsten-based catalysts (e.g., WO3) are efficient for selectively cleaving C-C bonds of sugars to C2,3 oxygenate intermediates (e.g., glycolaldehyde) that can serve as platform molecules with high viability and versatility in the synthesis of various chemicals. Such C-C bond cleavage follows a mechanism distinct from the classical retro-aldol condensation. Kinetic, isotope 13C-labeling, and spectroscopic studies and theoretical calculations, reveal that the reaction proceeds via a surface tridentate complex as the critical intermediate on WO3, formed by chelating both α- and ß-hydroxyls of sugars, together with the carbonyl group, with two adjacent tungsten atoms (W-O-W) contributing to the ß-C-C bond cleavage. This mechanism provides insights into sugar chemistry and enables the rational design of catalytic sites and reaction pathways toward the efficient utilization of sugar-based feedstocks.

RESUMO

Nur77 is a member of the NR4A subfamily of orphan nuclear receptors that is expressed and has a function within the immune system. This study aimed to investigate the role of Nur77 in hypoxic pulmonary hypertension. SPF male SD rats were exposed in hypobaric chamber simulating 5000 m high altitude for 0, 3, 7, 14, 21 or 28 days. Rat pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (RPASMCs) were cultured under normoxic conditions (5% CO2-95% ambient air) or hypoxic conditions (5% O2 for 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h). Hypoxic rats developed pulmonary arterial remodeling and right ventricular hypertrophy with significantly increased pulmonary arterial pressure. The levels of Nur77, HIF-1α and PNCA were upregulated in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle from hypoxic rats. Silencing of either Nur77 or HIF-1α attenuated hypoxia-induced proliferation. Silencing of HIF-1α down-regulated Nur77 protein level, but Nur77 silence did not reduce HIF-1α. Nur77 was not con-immunoprecipitated with HIF-1α. This study demonstrated that Nur77 acted as a downstream regulator of HIF-1α under hypoxia, and plays a critical role in the hypoxia-induced pulmonary vascular remodeling, which is regulated by HIF-1α. Nur77 maybe a novel target of HPH therapy.

RESUMO

Developing materials with dynamic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) properties is crucial for expanding the applications of organic light-emitting materials. In this study, we designed and synthesized two novel RTP molecules by combining functional units, incorporating the folded unit thianthrene into the classic luminescent cores thioxanthone or anthraquinone to construct TASO and TA2O. In this combination, the TA unit contributes to the enhancement of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), while the luminescent core governs the triplet energy level. After the strategic manipulation of SOC using the thianthrene unit, the target molecules exhibited a remarkable enhancement in RTP performance. This strategy led to the successful development of TASO and TA2O molecules with outstanding dynamic RTP properties when exposed to continuous ultraviolet irradiation, a result that can be ascribed to their efficient RTP, improved absorption ability, and oxygen-sensitive RTP properties. Leveraging the oxygen-mediated ultraviolet-radiation-induced RTP enhancement in TASO-doped polymer films, we developed a novel time-resolved detection technique for identifying phase separation in polymers with varying oxygen permeability. This research offers a promising approach for constructing materials with dynamic RTP properties.

RESUMO

A nickel-catalyzed three-component tandem radical cyclization reaction of aryl bromides with 1,3-enynes and aryl boric acids to construct γ-lactam-substituted allene derivatives has been described. This protocol provides lactam alkyl radicals through the free radical cyclization process, which can be effectively used to participate in the subsequent multicomponent coupling reaction so that 1,3-enynes could directly convert into corresponding poly-substituted allene compounds. In addition, this efficient method enjoys a broad substrate scope and provides a series of 1,5-difunctionalized allenes in a one-pot reaction.

RESUMO

Polyoxometalate (POM)-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials possess versatile properties and applications; however, the ratios of organic cations to POM anions still remain to be solved. In this work, 14 POM-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials were synthesized by the precipitation, hydrothermal, and solvent-evaporation methods. These hybrid materials consisted of a wide range of quaternary ammonium and imidazolium cations with different alkyl chains and different Keggin-type heteropolyanions [i.e., phosphotungstic ([PW12O40]3-), phosphomolybdic ([PMo12O40]3-), silicotungstic ([SiW12O40]4-), and silicomolybdic ([SiMo12O40]4-) anions]. Their compositions and structures were characterized complementarily by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The actual ratios of organic cations to heteropolyanions of [PW12O40]3-, [PMo12O40]3-, [SiW12O40]4-, and [SiMo12O40]4- were found to always be 3:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 4:1, respectively, independent of the organic cations, synthesis methods, and reaction parameters. This finding demonstrates that the organic cations completely substituted the protons of the heteropolyacid precursors in the hybrid materials, which thus hardly possessed Brønsted acidity probed by the pyridine adsorption and cellulose hydrolysis reaction. Such complete substitution of the protons arose apparently from the strong noncovalent interactions between the organic cations and heteropolyanions (such as electrostatic and C-H···O interactions) in the POM-based hybrid materials.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the epidemiological features and explore the potential risk factors for early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with acute single small subcortical infarction (SSSI) who underwent antiplatelet therapy without carotid artery stenosis. MATERIALS & METHODS: Patients with SSSI, as confirmed by cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), who were hospitalized within 48 h after the onset of symptoms were enrolled. END was mainly defined as increment in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score of ≥ 2 points or any new neurological deficit. Poor functional outcome was defined as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of > 2 points at 3-month after the onset. The association of END with multiple indicators was assessed at the early stage of admission using multivariate logistic regression analysis, and adjusted odds ratios (aORs) were calculated. RESULTS: A total of 280 patients were enrolled from June 2020 to May 2021, of whom, END occurred in 44 (15.7%) patients (median age, 64 years; 70.5% male), while END occurred during sleep in 28 (63.6%) patients. History of hypertension (aOR: 4.82, p = 0.001), infarction in internal capsule (aOR: 3.35, p = 0.001), and elevated level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C; aOR: 0.036, p = 0.0016) were significantly associated with the risk of END. Patients with END (aOR: 5.74, p = 0.002), history of diabetes (aOR: 2.61, p = 0.020), and higher NIHSS scores at discharge (per 1-score increase, aOR: 1.29, p = 0.026) were associated with the poor functional outcome at 3-month after the onset. CONCLUSION: Patients with a history of hypertension, infarction in internal capsule or a higher level of LDL-C were found to be at a higher risk of END.

RESUMO

CONTEXT: Chinese medicinal herbs (CMH) have been considered a potentially efficacious approach for patients with breast cancer that experience adverse effects from endocrine treatment. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of CMH on endocrine therapy-induced side effects in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer. METHODS: Ten databases (e.g., PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Information Database and other databases) were searched up to 20 May 2022. The search terms included Chinese herb, breast cancer, endocrine therapy, clinical trial and their mesh terms. The study selection and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias method. RESULTS: A total of 31 studies with 2288 patients were included. There were significant improvements in bone mineral density (BMD) [lumbar BMD (MD 0.08, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.09, p < 0.00001) and femoral neck BMD (MD 0.08, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.10, p < 0.00001)] and bone gal protein (BGP) (MD 0.24, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.31, p < 0.00001), with a significant reduction in triglycerides (MD -0.53, 95% CI -1.00 to -0.07, p < 0.05) and no effect on estradiol levels (MD 0.90, 95% CI -0.31 to 2.12, p = 0.15). CONCLUSIONS: CMH combined with complementary therapy can moderately reduce endocrine therapy-induced side effects, including bone loss and dyslipidemia in patients with HR + breast cancer, revealing the potential role of CMH in treating (HR+) breast cancer. More high-quality RCTs are warranted to further validate the effectiveness and safety of CMH.

RESUMO

Excitation-dependent emission (Ex-de) materials have been of considerable academic interest and have potential applications in real life. Such multicolour luminescence is a characteristic exception to the ubiquitously accepted Kasha's rule. This phenomenon has been increasingly presented in some studies on different luminescence systems; however, a systematic overview of the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon is currently absent. Herein, we resolve this issue by classifying multicolour luminescence from single chromophores and dual/ternary chromophores, as well as multiple emitting species. The underlying processes are described based on electronic and/or geometrical conditions under which the phenomenon occurs. Before we present it in categories, related photophysical and photochemical foundations are introduced. This systematic overview will provide a clear approach to designing multicolour luminescence materials for special applications.

RESUMO

In recent years, pure organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) with highly efficient and long-persistent afterglow has drawn substantial awareness. Commonly, spin-orbit coupling can be improved by introducing heavy atoms into pure-organic molecules. However, this strategy will simultaneously increase the radiative and non-radiative transition rate, further resulting in dramatic decreases in the excited state lifetime and afterglow duration. Here in this work, a highly symmetric bird-like structure tetraphenylene (TeP), and its three symmetrical halogenated derivatives (TeP-F, TeP-Cl and TeP-Br) are synthesized, while their RTP properties and mechanisms are systematically investigated by both theoretical and experimental approaches. As the results, the rigid, highly twisted conformation of TeP restricts the non-radiative processes of RTP and gives rise to the enhancement of electron-exchange, which can contribute to the RTP radiation process. Despite the faint RTP of the bromine and chlorine-substituted ones (TeP-Br, TeP-Cl), the fluoro-substituted TeP-F exhibited a long phosphorescent lifetime up to 890 ms, corresponding to an extremely long RTP afterglow over 8 s, which could be incorporated into the best series of non-heavy-atom RTP materials reported in previous literature.

RESUMO

Photo-assisted reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction is regarded green and promising in controlling the reaction gas ratio in Fischer Tropsch synthesis. But it is inclined to produce more byproducts in high H2 concentration condition. Herein, LaInO3 loaded with Ni-nanoparticles (Ni NPs) was designed to obtain an efficient photothermal RWGS reaction rate, where LaInO3 was enriched with oxygen vacancies to roundly adsorbing CO2 and the strong interaction with Ni NPs endowed the catalysts with powerful H2 activity. The optimized catalyst performed a large CO yield rate (1314 mmol gNi -1 h-1 ) and ≈100 % selectivity. In situ characterizations demonstrated a COOH* pathway of the reaction and photoinduced charge transfer process for reducing the RWGS reaction active energy. Our work provides valuable insights on the construction of catalysts concerning products selectivity and photoelectronic activating mechanism on CO2 hydrogenation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To identify independent factors for head and neck cancer (HNC) patients with carotid blowout syndrome (CBS) and construct a nomogram to predict risk of CBS preoperatively based on computed tomography angiography (CTA) imaging. SUBJECT AND METHODS: From January 2010 to July 2020, 73 HNC patients who had surgery in hospitalization and underwent CTA examination for head and neck region were included in this study. Vascular alterations and the relationship between carotid artery (CA) and tumor were evaluated in CTA. Clinical and CTA imaging features were distinguished by logistic regression analysis and used to perform receiver operating curve analysis. Nomogram was created to predict risk of CBS and assessed by concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve. RESULTS: Three independent risk factors were identified, including radical neck dissection, CA surrounded by tumor, and CA invaded by tumor without clear boundary. Area under curve of the combination of 3 variables was 0.836 (95% CI, 0.72-0.952, p < 0.001). The C-index of nomogram was 0.84 (95% CI, 0.73-0.94), and the calibration plot showed a good fitting between prediction and observation. CONCLUSIONS: We established a useful nomogram based on CTA imaging, which showed a satisfied efficacy for evaluating risk of CBS in HNC patients preoperatively.

RESUMO

Organic materials with excitation wavelength-dependent (Ex-de) emission are highly attractive for anticounterfeiting, optoelectronics and bioassay applications; however, the realization of Ex-de fluorescence, independent of aggregation states, remains a challenge. We herein report a photoinduced electron transfer (PeT) strategy to design Ex-de fluorescence materials by manipulating the relaxation pathways of multiple excited states. As expected, the o-carborane dyad presents a clear Ex-de fluorescence colour in the aggregated states, resulting from the tunable relative intensity of the dual-fluorescence spectra. Taking TP[1]B as an example, the amorphous powders emitted bright blue-violet, white and yellow colours under 390 nm, 365 nm and 254 nm UV illumination, respectively. Importantly, multicolour, flexible and transparent films as well as an anticounterfeiting application using this o-carborane dyad are demonstrated.

RESUMO

Burkholderia pseudomallei is the etiological agent of melioidosis, which is an emerging infectious disease endemic to many tropical regions. Autophagy is an intrinsic cellular process that degrades cytoplasmic components and plays an important role in protecting the host against pathogens. Like many intracellular pathogens, B. pseudomallei can evade the autophagy-dependent cellular clearance. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we applied a combination of multiple assays to monitor autophagy processes and found that B. pseudomallei induced an incomplete autophagic flux and eliminate autophagy clearance in macrophages by blocking autophagosome-lysosome fusion. Based on a high-throughput microarray screening, we found that LIPA (lysosomal acid LIPAse A) was downregulated during B. pseudomallei infection. MiR-146a was then identified to be specifically upregulated upon infection with B. pseudomallei and further regulated LIPA expression by interacting with 3'UTR of LIPA. Furthermore, overexpression of miR-146a contributed to the defect of autophagic flux caused by B. pseudomallei and was beneficial for the survival of B. pseudomallei in macrophages. Therefore, our findings suggest that miR-146a inhibits autophagy via posttranscriptional suppression of LIPA expression to maintain B. pseudomallei survival in macrophages.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Brucellosis is a common zoonotic disease that may have a variety of clinical manifestations when it affects the nervous system. Ischemic stroke is a rare clinical symptom, but if it is not diagnosed and treated early, it may cause more severe consequences. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 38-year-old man presenting with hearing impairment for four years and sudden weakness of the right limb for two years, recurrent aphasia, and gradual weakness of bilateral lower limbs for nine months. He had bilateral positive Babinski's sign. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) showed raised protein and pleocytosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed ischemic infarcts in the pons and extensive enhancement of spinal meninges combined with spinal cord atrophy and ischemia. The tests revealed Brucella Rose Bengal positive in serum and CSF. Brucella culture in CSF was also positive. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of CSF revealed positive for Brucella with 105 species were detected. He showed significant improvement with antibiotics at five months follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Neurobrucellosis may mimic stroke and transverse myelitis like syndromes. NB is a treatable infectious condition and should always be considered in the differentials, especially if there are risk factors, as in our case.

RESUMO

A fundamental study on the metal-support interactions of supported metal catalysts is of great importance for developing heterogeneous catalysts with high performance, is still attracting and challenging in many heterogeneous catalytic reactions. In this work, we report the catalytic performances of CeO2-supported noble-metal catalysts among single atoms, subnanoclusters (∼1 nm), and nanoparticles (2.2-2.7 nm) upon low-temperature CO oxidation reaction between 50 and 250 °C. The subnanoclusters and nanoparticles of Ru, Rh, and Ir showed much higher activities than those of the single atoms, while a Pd single-atom catalyst was more active than Pd subnanoclusters and nanoparticles. According to the results of multiple ex situ and in situ characterizations, the much different activities of Ru, Rh, Ir, and Pd were derived from the alterable electronic metal-support interactions (EMSI), which determine the concurrent reaction pathway including the famous Mars van Krevelen mechanism and carbonate-intermediate route on the most active metal sites of Mδ+ (0 < δ < 1) for Ru, Rh, and Ir and Pd2+ for Pd. Also, the moderate EMSI of CeO2-supported Rh subnanoclusters furthest benefited activation of the adsorbed CO molecule and ensured it the highest activity among CeO2-supported Ru, Rh, and Ir catalysts with similar metal deposit sizes.

RESUMO

Despite the enormous research efforts in recent years regarding lignin depolymerisation and functionalisation, few commercial products are available. This review provides a summary and viewpoint of extensive research in the lignin-to-product valorisation chain, with an emphasis on downstream processing of lignin derived feedstock into end products. It starts with an introduction of available platform chemicals and polymeric derivatives generated from lignin via existing depolymerisation and functionalisation technologies. Following that, detailed analyses of various strategies for the downstream processing of lignin derived platform chemicals and materials into fuels, valued-added chemicals and functional polymers are provided. A concise techno-economic analysis of various downstream processes is conducted based on the market demand of the end product, economic potential and technological readiness, enabling the identification of processes that are potentially both economically competitive and commercially feasible, and shedding light on processes which deserve further technological development. We wish this review will stimulate further advances in the sustainable production of value-added products from lignin to integrate this invaluable "bio-waste" into the chemical/materials supply chain.

RESUMO

Efficient vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications improve traffic safety, enable autonomous driving, and help to reduce environmental impacts. To achieve these objectives, accurate channel estimation in highly mobile scenarios becomes necessary. However, in the V2X millimeter-wave massive MIMO system, the high mobility of vehicles leads to the rapid time-varying of the wireless channel and results in the existing static channel estimation algorithms no longer applicable. In this paper, we propose a sparse Bayes tensor and DOA tracking inspired channel estimation for V2X millimeter wave massive MIMO system. Specifically, by exploiting the sparse scattering characteristics of the channel, we transform the channel estimation into a sparse recovery problem. In order to reduce the influence of quantization errors, both the receiving and transmitting angle grids should have super-resolution. We obtain the measurement matrix to increase the resolution of the redundant dictionary. Furthermore, we take the low-rank characteristics of the received signals into consideration rather than singly using the traditional sparse prior. Motivated by the sparse Bayes tensor, a direction of arrival (DOA) tracking method is developed to acquire the DOA at the next moment, which equals the sum of the DOA at the previous moment and the offset. The obtained DOA is expected to provide a significant angle information update for tracking fast time-varying vehicular channels. The proposed approach is evaluated over the different speeds of the vehicle scenarios and compared to the other methods. Simulation results validated the theoretical analysis and demonstrate that the proposed solution outperforms a number of state-of-the-art researches.

RESUMO

Deep blue luminescent materials play a crucial role in the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In this work, a novel deep blue molecule based on hybridized local and charge-transfer (HLCT) excited state was reported with the emission wavelength of 423 nm. The OLED based on this material achieved high maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 4% with good color purity. The results revealed that the locally-excited (LE)-dominated HLCT excited state had obvious advantages in short wavelength and narrow spectrum emission. What is more, the experimental and theoretical combination was used to describe the excited state characteristic and to understand photophysical property.

RESUMO

Most organic piezochromic materials exhibit red-shifted and quenched emission as pressure increases. However, an abnormal phenomenon of pressure-induced blue-shifted and enhanced emission is observed in a 9-(3-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl)anthracene crystal, which is based on discrete π-π anthracene (AN) dimers stacking with tetraphenylethylene (TPE) as spacer. A blue-shifted emission appears and strengthens when the pressure is more than 1.23 GPa, and it reaches the maximum when the pressure is 4.28 GPa. This phenomenon is ascribed to the cooperative effect between the aggregation-induced emission of TPE units and energy-transfer suppression from TPE to an AN excimer. This work reports a new concept in the piezochromic field and provides a novel strategy to achieve luminescence from a high-lying excited state.

RESUMO

Fluorescence probes in the NIR-IIa region show drastically improved imaging owing to the reduced photon scattering and autofluorescence in biological tissues. Now, NIR-IIa polymer dots (Pdots) are developed with a dual fluorescence enhancement mechanism. First, the aggregation induced emission of phenothiazine was used to reduce the nonradiative decay pathways of the polymers in condensed states. Second, fluorescence quenching was minimized by different levels of steric hindrance to further boost the fluorescence. The resulting Pdots displayed a fluorescence QY of ca. 1.7 % in aqueous solution, suggesting an enhancement of ca. 21 times in comparison with the original polymer in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution. Small-animal imaging by using the NIR-IIa Pdots exhibited a remarkable improvement in penetration depth and signal to background ratio, as confirmed by through-skull and through-scalp fluorescent imaging of the cerebral vasculature of live mice.
