RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific clinical syndrome and can be subdivided into early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE) and late-onset preeclampsia (LOPE) according to the gestational age of delivery. Patients with preeclampsia have aberrant lipid metabolism. This study aims to compare serum lipid profiles of normal pregnant women with EOPE or LOPE and screening potential biomarkers to diagnose EOPE or LOPE. METHODS: Twenty normal pregnant controls (NC), 19 EOPE, and 19 LOPE were recruited in this study. Untargeted lipidomics based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was used to compare their serum lipid profiles. RESULTS: The lipid metabolism profiles significantly differ among the NC, EOPE, and LOPE. Compared to the NC, there were 256 and 275 distinct lipids in the EOPE and LOPE, respectively. Furthermore, there were 42 different lipids between the LOPE and EOPE, of which eight were significantly associated with fetal birth weight and maternal urine protein. The five lipids that both differed in the EOPE and LOPE were DGTS (16:3/16:3), LPC (20:3), LPC (22:6), LPE (22:6), PC (18:5e/4:0), and a combination of them were a potential biomarker for predicting EOPE or LOPE. The receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that the diagnostic power of the combination for distinguishing the EOPE from the NC and for distinguishing the LOPE from the NC can reach 1.000 and 0.992, respectively. The association between the lipid modules and clinical characteristics of EOPE and LOPE was investigated by the weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). The results demonstrated that the main different metabolism pathway between the EOPE and LOPE was enriched in glycerophospholipid metabolism. CONCLUSIONS: Lipid metabolism disorders may be a potential mechanism of the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. Lipid metabolites have the potential to serve as biomarkers in patients with EOPE or LOPE. Furthermore, lipid metabolites correlate with clinical severity indicators for patients with EOPE and LOPE, including fetal birth weight and maternal urine protein levels.

RESUMO

High-efficacy recycling of spent lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2 ) batteries is one of the key tasks in realizing a global resource security strategy due to the rareness of lithium (Li) and cobalt (Co) resources. However, it is of great significance to develop the innovative recycle methods for spent LiCoO2 , simultaneously realizing the efficient recovery of valuable elements and the regeneration of high-performance LiCoO2 . Herein, a novel strategy of regenerating LiCoO2 cathode is proposed, which involves the preparation of micro-spherical aluminum (Al)-doped lithium-lacked precursor (Li2x Co1-x-y Al2/3y CO3, remarked as "PLCAC") via ammonium bicarbonate coprecipitation. The comprehensive conditions affecting particle growth kinetics, morphology and particle size the has been investigated in detail by physical characterizations and electrochemical measurements. And the optimized Al-doped LiCoO2 materials with high-density sphericity (LiCo1-z Alz O2 , remarked as "LCAO") shows a high initial specific capacity of 161 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and excellent capacity retention of 99.5 % within 100 cycles at 1 C in the voltage range of 2.8 to 4.3 V. Our work provides valuable insights into the featured design of LiCoO2 precursors and cathode materials from spent LiCoO2 batteries, potentially guaranteeing the high-efficacy recycling and utilization of strategic resources.

RESUMO

Plant uptake, accumulation, and transformation of organophosphate esters (OPEs) play vital roles in their geochemical cycles and exposure risks. Here we reviewed the recent research advances in OPEs in plants. The mean OPE concentrations based on dry/wet/lipid weight varied in 4.80-3,620/0.287-26.8/12,000-315,000 ng g-1 in field plants, and generally showed positive correlations with those in plant habitats. OPEs with short-chain substituents and high hydrophilicity, particularly the commonly used chlorinated OPEs, showed dominance in most plant samples, whereas some tree barks, fruits, seeds, and roots demonstrated dominance of hydrophobic OPEs. Both hydrophilic and hydrophobic OPEs can enter plants via root and foliar uptake, and the former pathway is mainly passively mediated by various membrane proteins. After entry, different OPEs undergo diverse subcellular distributions and acropetal/basipetal/intergenerational translocations, depending on their physicochemical properties. Hydrophilic OPEs mainly exist in cell sap and show strong transferability, hydrophobic OPEs demonstrate dominant distributions in cell wall and limited migrations owing to the interception of Casparian strips and cell wall. Additionally, plant species, transpiration capacity, growth stages, commensal microorganisms, and habitats also affect OPE uptake and transfer in plants. OPE metabolites derived from various Phase I transformations and Phase II conjugations are increasingly identified in plants, and hydrolysis and hydroxylation are the most common metabolic processes. The metabolisms and products of OPEs are closely associated with their structures and degradation resistance and plant species. In contrast, plant-derived food consumption contributes considerably to the total dietary intakes of OPEs by human, particularly the cereals, and merits specifical attention. Based on the current research limitations, we proposed the research perspectives regarding OPEs in plants, with the emphases on their behavior and fate in field plants, interactions with plant-related microorganisms, multiple uptake pathways and mechanisms, and comprehensive screening analysis and risk evaluation.

RESUMO

DNA G4-structures from human c-MYC promoter and telomere are considered as important drug targets; however, the developing of small-molecule-based fluorescent binding ligands that are highly selective in targeting these G4-structures over other types of nucleic acids is challenging. We herein report a new approach of designing small molecules based on a non-selective thiazole orange scaffold to provide two-directional and multi-site interactions with flanking residues and loops of the G4-motif for better selectivity. The ligands are designed to establish multi-site interactions in the G4-binding pocket. This structural feature may render the molecules higher selectivity toward c-MYC G4s than other structures. The ligand-G4 interaction studied with 1H NMR may suggest a stacking interaction with the terminal G-tetrad. Moreover, the intracellular co-localization study with BG4 and cellular competition experiments with BRACO-19 may suggest that the binding targets of the ligands in cells are most probably G4-structures. Furthermore, the ligands that either preferentially bind to c-MYC promoter or telomeric G4s are able to downregulate markedly the c-MYC and hTERT gene expression in MCF-7 cells, and induce senescence and DNA damage to cancer cells. The in vivo antitumor activity of the ligands in MCF-7 tumor-bearing mice is also demonstrated.

RESUMO

Selenium (Se) and tellurium (Te) nanomaterials with novel chain-like structures have attracted widespread interest owing to their intriguing properties. Unfortunately, the still-unclear catalytic mechanisms have severely limited the development of biocatalytic performance. In this work, we developed chitosan-coated Se nanozymes with a 23-fold higher antioxidative activity than Trolox and bovine serum albumin coated Te nanozymes with stronger prooxidative biocatalytic effects. Based on density functional theory calculations, we first propose that the Se nanozyme with Se/Se2- active centers favored reactive oxygen species (ROS) clearance via a LUMO-mediated mechanism, while the Te nanozyme with Te/Te4+ active centers promoted ROS production through a HOMO-mediated mechanism. Furthermore, biological experiments confirmed that the survival rate of γ-irritated mice treated with the Se nanozyme was maintained at 100% for 30 days by inhibiting oxidation. However, the Te nanozyme had the opposite biological effect via promoting radiation oxidation. The present work provides a new strategy for improving the catalytic activities of Se and Te nanozymes.

RESUMO

LIN28A and its homolog LIN28B are highly conserved RNA-binding proteins that play important roles in early embryonic development, somatic cell reprogramming, metabolism and tumorigenesis. LIN28A/B are highly expressed in a variety of malignant tumors such as breast cancer. They play important roles in the initiation, maintenance, and metastasis of tumors and are associated with poor prognosis. Previous studies have shown that the main regulatory mechanisms of LIN28A/B include let-7s dependent ways and let-7s independent ways, such as directly targeting mRNA. In this review, we summarize the function and molecular regulatory mechanisms of LIN28A/B in malignant tumors such as liver cancer, breast cancer and colorectal cancer, in order to provide references for further exploring the function and mechanism of LIN28A/B and their possible roles in clinical applications.

RESUMO

Cymbidium ensifolium is one of the national orchids in China, which has high ornamental value with changeable flower colors. To understand the formation mechanism of different flower colors of C. ensifolium, this research conducted transcriptome and metabolome analyses on four different colored sepals of C. ensifolium. Metabolome analysis detected 204 flavonoid metabolites, including 17 polyphenols, 27 anthocyanins, 75 flavones, 34 flavonols, 25 flavonoids, 18 flavanones, and 8 isoflavones. Among them, purple-red and red sepals contain a lot of anthocyanins, including cyanidin, pelargonin, and paeoniflorin, while yellow-green and white sepals have less anthocyanins detected, and their metabolites are mainly flavonols, flavanones and flavonoids. Transcriptome sequencing analysis showed that the expression levels of the anthocyanin biosynthetic enzyme genes in red and purple-red sepals were significantly higher than those in white and yellow-green sepals of C. ensifolium. The experimental results showed that CeF3'H2, CeDFR, CeANS, CeF3H and CeUFGT1 may be the key genes involved in anthocyanin production in C. ensifolium sepals, and CeMYB104 has been proved to play an important role in the flower color formation of C. ensifolium. The results of transformation showed that the CeMYB104 is involved in the synthesis of anthocyanins and can form a purple-red color in the white perianth of Phalaenopsis. These findings provide a theoretical reference to understand the formation mechanism of flower color in C. ensifolium.

RESUMO

Spin-state transition is a vital factor that dominates catalytic processes, but unveiling its mechanism still faces the great challenge of the lack of catalyst model systems. Herein, we propose that the {Fe-Pt} Hofmann clathrates, whose dynamic spin-state transition of metal centers can be chemically manipulated through iodine treatment, can serve as model systems in the spin-related structural-catalytic relationship study. Taking the photocatalytic synthesis of H2O2 as the basic catalytic reaction, when the spin state of Fe(II) in the clathrate is high spin (HS), sacrificial agents are indispensable to the photosynthesis of H2O2 because only the photocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) occurs; when it is low spin (LS), both the ORR and water oxidation reaction (WOR) can take place, enabling a high H2O2 photosynthesis rate of 66 000 µM g-1 h-1 under visible-light irradiation. In situ characterizations combined with density functional theory calculations confirmed that, compared with the HS-state counterpart, the LS state can induce strong charge transfer between the LS Fe(II) and the iodide-coordinating Pt(IV) in the polymer and reduce the energy barriers for both the ORR and WOR processes, dominating the on-off switching upon the photosynthesis of H2O2 in O2-saturated water. What's more, the one-pot tandem reactions were conducted to utilize the synthesized H2O2 for transforming the low-value-added sodium alkenesulfonates into value-added bromohydrin products with decent conversion rates. This work provides a pioneering investigation into on-off switching the photocatalytic overall reaction through manipulating the metallic spin-state transition in spin-crossover systems.

RESUMO

The development of site-specific, target-selective and biocompatible small molecule ligands as a fluorescent tool for real-time study of cellular functions of RNA G-quadruplexes (G4s), which are associated with human cancers, is of significance in cancer biology. We report a fluorescent ligand that is a cytoplasm-specific and RNA G4-selective fluorescent biosensor in live HeLa cells. The in vitro results show that the ligand is highly selective targeting RNA G4s including VEGF, NRAS, BCL2 and TERRA. These G4s are recognized as human cancer hallmarks. Moreover, intracellular competition studies with BRACO19 and PDS, and the colocalization study with G4-specific antibody (BG4) in HeLa cells may support that the ligand selectively binds to G4s in cellulo. Furthermore, the ligand was demonstrated for the first time in the visualization and monitoring of dynamic resolving process of RNA G4s by the overexpressed RFP-tagged DHX36 helicase in live HeLa cells.

RESUMO

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the main malignant tumors with high mortality and short survival time. Immunotherapy has become the standard treatment for advanced NSCLC, but it has the problems of drug resistance and low response rate. Therefore, obtaining effective biomarkers to predict and enhance immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) efficacy in NSCLC is important. Sphingolipid metabolism is recently found to be closely involved in tumor immunotherapy. CERS4, an important sphingolipid metabolizing enzyme, is positively correlated with the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy for NSCLC. Upregulation of CERS4 expression could improve the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy for NSCLC. High expression of CERS4 could downregulate the expression of Rhob in tumor. Significantly, the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ T cell increased and the ratio of Tim-3+/CD8+ T cell decreased in spleen and peripheral blood cells. When Rhob was knocked out, the efficacy of PD-1 mAb treatment increased, and the frequency of Tim-3+ CD8+ T cell decreased. This finding further confirmed the role of sphingolipid metabolites in regulating the immunotherapeutic function of NSCLC. These metabolites may improve the efficacy of PD-1 mAb in NSCLC by regulating the CERS4/Rhob/Tim-3 axis. Overall, this study provided a potential and effective target for predicting and improving the efficacy of ICIs for NSCLC. It also provided a new perspective for the study on the mechanisms of ICIs resistance for NSCLC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate associations between fibrinogen/fibrin degradation products (FDP) to high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (FHR) of mothers and the risk of delivering large/small for gestational age (LGA/SGA) infants and to evaluate the predictive power of FHR on LGA/SGA. METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed 11,657 consecutive women whose lipid profiles and FDP levels were investigated at the time of admission for delivery at a specialized hospital. The FHR was calculated, and perinatal outcomes, including clinical parameters, were analyzed. RESULTS: The prevalence of SGA was 9% (n = 1034), and that of LGA was 15% (n = 1806) in this cohort study. FHR was significantly lower in women who delivered SGA infants (4.0 ± 3.2 vs. 4.7 ± 3.3 mg/mmol, P < 0.01) and higher in women who delivered LGA infants (5.7 ± 3.8 vs. 4.7 ± 3.3 mg/mmol, P < 0.01) compared with those who delivered infants of normal size for their gestational age. Women in the top quartile for FHR (> 5.9 mg/mmol) had a 2.9-fold higher risk of delivering LGA infants [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 2.9, P < 0.01] and a 47% lower risk of delivering SGA infants (adjusted OR = 0.47, P < 0.01) than those in the bottom quartile (< 2.7 mg/mmol). In addition, adding FHR to the conventional models significantly improved the area under the curve for the prediction of delivering LGA (0.725 vs. 0.739, P < 0.01) and SGA (0.717 vs. 0.727, P < 0.01) infants. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the FHR calculated in late pregnancy is an innovative predictor of delivering LGA and SGA infants. Combining FHR with perinatal parameters could thus enhance the predictive ability for predicting the delivery of LGA/SGA infants.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The joint effect of platelet and other modifiers on the risk of pregnancy complications is unknown. This study investigated whether platelet count (PC) and total homocysteine (tHcy) level have a synergistic effect on the incidence of pregnancy complications in a Chinese population. METHODS: Total 11,553 consecutive pregnant women who received whole blood cell and biochemical tests at the time of admission for labor in Changzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital were analyzed. The primary outcome was the prevalence of pregnancy complications: gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), pre-eclampsia (PE), and pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). RESULTS: The prevalence of GDM, ICP, PE, and PIH was 8.4%, 6.2%, 3.4%, and 2.1%, respectively. The highest rate of ICP (28.6%) was observed in women with high tHcy (> 15 µmol/L) and low PC (quartile 1); and the lowest rate of GDM (0.6%) was found in women with high tHcy and high PC (quartiles 2 to 4). In low PC group, the prevalence of ICP in women with high tHcy was significantly higher than that in women with low tHcy (≤ 15 µmol/L) (28.6% vs. 8.4%), representing an absolute risk increment of 20.2% and a relative risk increment of 3.3-fold (OR: 3.34; 95% CI: 1.55, 7.17; P = 0.002), whereas no joint effect was observed among high PC group. CONCLUSIONS: Among Chinese pregnant women, one subgroup (high tHcy and low PC) has the highest risk of ICP and another (high tHcy and high PC) has the lowest risk of GDM; tHcy and platelet could be used as indicators to identify the women with high risk of ICP or low risk of GDM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: LncRNA LINC00534 has been found to be differentially expressed in placental tissue samples of preeclampsia (PE), but the exact mechanism is still unclear. METHODS: In vitro assays were carried out in HTR-8/SVneo cells using various methods, including cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), transwells, flow cytometry, and Western blotting (WB) and quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RNA pull-down and bioinformatics analysis were applied to examine other potential underlying mechanisms involved. RESULTS: We found that there was a high expression of LINC00534 in the placental tissues of patients with PE. LINC00534 overexpression (OE) significantly inhibited cell proliferation and migration as well as accelerated cell apoptosis in HTR8/SVneo cells. The knockdown of LINC00534 produced an opposite trend. Mechanistically, LINC00534 promoted the expressions of PTEN (Phosphatase and tensin homolog) through decreasing miR-494-3p. Further rescue studies showed that LINC00534 played a role by targeting mir-494-3p, which controlled the growth and migration of HTR-8/SVneo trophoblast cells via regulating PTEN/PI3K/AKT (Phosphatidylinositol3-kinase/protein kinase B). Moreover, lncRNA pull-down assay identified 198 potential bound proteins for LINC00534. Those proteins were mostly involved in RNA processing and modification, posttranslational modification, protein turnover, and chaperones. CONCLUSION: Overall, by suppressing HTR8/SVneo cell growth and migration via the miR-494-3p/PTEN axis and other mechanisms, LINC00534 offers new insight into PE pathogenesis.

RESUMO

AIM: Here, we present results of a survey of scabies prevalence in childcare centres and primary schools in Auckland. METHODS: Children whose parents agreed to take part in participating centres in the Auckland region were examined for scabies by general practitioners and given questionnaires of relevant symptoms. Diagnoses of clinical or suspected scabies were made according to the International Alliance for the Control of Scabies (IACS) criteria. The survey was a stratified random sample of schools and early childcare centres. A quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was also used to complement the IACS criteria. RESULTS: A total of 181 children were examined, with 145 children with history information, 16 of whom (11.0%) met the criteria for 'clinical' or 'suspected' scabies. Weighted analysis, accounting for the survey design, indicated that the prevalence of scabies in early childcare centres was 13.2% (95% CI: 4.3 to 22.1), with no school-aged children fulfilling these criteria. A higher proportion had clinical signs of scabies with 23 (12.7%) having typical scabies lesions and a further 43 (23.8%) had atypical lesions. A total of 64 PCR tests were taken and 15 (23%) were positive. None of these cases were receiving treatment for scabies. Five were undergoing topical skin treatment: three with topical steroid and two with calamine lotion. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of children with scabies is high in early childcare centres in Auckland. Misdiagnosis is suggested by several PCR positive cases being treated by topical agents used to treat other skin conditions.

RESUMO

Based on Iron cathodes, nitrate could be selectively decomposed into other lower-valence nitrogen compounds, including ammonia, nitrogen gas, nitrite and nitric oxide, but the removal efficiencies of nitrate and total nitrogen (TN), are affected significantly by the synergistic effects of anodes, chloride electrolyte and conductive plastic particles electrodes. In this work, the base material Titanium (Ti) metal plates and plastic particles which surfaces were mainly coated with Ru-Sn oxidizing compounds, were applied as plates anodes and conductive particles electrodes in Three Dimensional Electrode Reactors (TDER). The Ti/RuSn plate anodes showed excellent performance on degrading nitrate, more nitrogen gas (83.84%) and less ammonia (15.51%) was produced, less TN and Iron ion (0.02 mg/L) was left in the wastewater, and less amount of chemical sludge (0.20 g/L) was produced. Furthermore, the removal efficiencies of nitrate and TN were further increased by the surface-modified plastic particles, which were cheap, reusable, corrosion-resistance, easy to obtain as manufactured materials and light to be suspended in waters. The degradation of nitrate and its intermediates was enhanced possibly by the continuous synergistic reactions initiated by hydrogen radicals, which was generated on the countless surficial active Ru-Sn sites of Ti/RuSn metal plate anodes and plastic particles electrodes, among residual nitrogen intermediates, most of ammonia was selectively converted to gaseous nitrogen by hypochlorite from chloride ion reaction.

RESUMO

The subcellular localization of messenger RNA (mRNA) precisely controls where protein products are synthesized and where they function. However, obtaining an mRNA's subcellular localization through wet-lab experiments is time-consuming and expensive, and many existing mRNA subcellular localization prediction algorithms need to be improved. In this study, a deep neural network-based eukaryotic mRNA subcellular location prediction method, DeepmRNALoc, was proposed, utilizing a two-stage feature extraction strategy that featured bimodal information splitting and fusing for the first stage and a VGGNet-like CNN module for the second stage. The five-fold cross-validation accuracies of DeepmRNALoc in the cytoplasm, endoplasmic reticulum, extracellular region, mitochondria, and nucleus were 0.895, 0.594, 0.308, 0.944, and 0.865, respectively, demonstrating that it outperforms existing models and techniques.

RESUMO

Triadimefon is a typical systemic fungicide that is widely used in the management of powdery mildew, rust disease, and southern blight. In this study, we measured fungicide residue to profile its absorption, translocation, and accumulation in three representative vegetable crops (Pak choi, cucumber, and pepper) after over-application. The fungicides were applied through entire-plant spraying (EPS), root-irrigation (RI), and middle-leaf-daubing (MLD). The half-life of triadimefon depends on the application method and plant species. In EPS, the half-life was 5.42 days (Pak choi), 6.86 days (cucumber), and 6.73 days (pepper), while in RI it was 4.39 days (Pak choi), 6.30 days (cucumber), and 5.98 days (pepper). In the EPS treatment, triadimefon is translocated both upward/outside and downward/inner-side from the daubed leaves in all the three vegetable crops. The transfer amount to each organ reached a peak on the 2nd day after fungicide application. The mesophyll of Pak choi exhibited a higher fungicide deposition compared to the petiole. In cucumber and pepper, the leaves demonstrated the highest accumulation of triadimefon (approximately 0.3-0.5 mg·kg-1), followed by stems. Roots and fruits displayed the lowest levels of triadimefon accumulation. Furthermore, triadimefon was found to have an impact on chlorophyll content, root activity, as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase and catalase in Pak choi, indicating its potential as a plant growth regulator. These aforementioned studies provide novel insights for the safe and efficient application of triadimefon in the production of Pak choi, cucumber, and pepper.

RESUMO

Circumcision is the simplest, most commonly used and most effective treatment for male prepuce overlength, phimosis and other diseases. There has also been a shift from traditional circumcision to simpler, faster, less invasive, instrument-based methods. This paper reviews the surgical methods of circumcision(Traditional circumcision、Electrosurgical circumcision、Laser circumcision、Sleeve circumcision, Dermotomy at the base of penis, Shangring, Gomco, Mogen, PlastiBell, PrePex, Alisklamp and Disposable circumcision suture apparatus), hoping to provide reference for clinicians to choose the appropriate circumcision methods for patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and complications of radical surgery (RP) and radical radiotherapy (RRT). METHODS: The clinical data of patients diagnosed with localized prostate cancer in General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command with RP and RRT from January 2015 to December 2019, Observed and recorded patient preoperative and postoperative PSA levels, biochemical Relapse-free Survival and clinical Relapse-free Survival, and the occurrence of hematuria, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, ankylurethria, diarrhea, hemoproctia and radiocystitis. RESULTS: A total of 150 patients with localized prostate cancer were included in this study, including 105 patients with RP and 45 patients undergoing RRT. There was no significant difference between the complication rates of hematuria, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction and ankylurethria(P>0.05).Patients in the RRT group had higher rates of diarrhea(20.00% vs 2.86%), hemoproctia(15.56% vs 1.90%) and radiocystitis(13.33% vs 0%) than those in the RP group, with significant differences (P<0.05). The 5-year bRFS was lower than that in the RP group (95.1% vs 90.7%), with no statistical significance (P=0.832); the 5-year cRFS in the RP group was lower than that in the RRT group (91.2% vs 89.6%), with no significant difference (P=0.971). CONCLUSION: The incidence of diarrhea, hemoproctia and radiocystitis was lower in the RP group than in the RRT group, and the recurrence-free survival was not significantly different between the two groups.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the safety and effectiveness of the "scarless" circumcision technique (a modified sleeve-style circumcision method) that preserves the original appearance, providing a more suitable surgical option for patients with redundant prepuce. METHODS: Clinical data of patients who underwent "scarless" circumcision at the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital from April 2022 to March 2023 were collected, with patients who underwent conventional circumcision (single-use stapler method) during the same period serving as the control group. The two groups were compared in terms of operation time, postoperative recovery time, incidence of postoperative complications, and patient satisfaction rates after surgery. RESULTS: The operation time for the study group was significantly longer than that of the control group; there was no significant difference in pain scores on the day of surgery between the two groups, but the pain scores on postoperative days 1, 3, and 7 were lower in the study group than in the control group; the postoperative recovery time was significantly shorter in the study group than in the control group; regarding postoperative complications: the control group had higher rates of edema, incision infection, and wound dehiscence than the study group. A satisfaction survey conducted 30 days postoperatively showed higher satisfaction in the study group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: The "scarless" circumcision technique that preserves the original appearance is safe and effective for patients with simple redundant prepuce and is a new surgical method with value for widespread adoption.
