RESUMO

This study evaluates the accuracy and repeatability of craniofacial measurements with a 3D light scanner, specifically the EINSTAR scanner, in comparison to traditional caliper measurements for facial anthropometry. Eleven volunteers were assessed by two examiners, one experienced and one inexperienced, who performed direct caliper measurements and indirect measurements using the scanner. Results indicated minimal differences between caliper and scanner results, with overall high accuracy and reliability demonstrated by correlation coefficients. Despite the slightly longer scanning time, the benefits of 3D imaging, including detailed surface mapping and virtual modeling, justify its integration into clinical practice, particularly in maxillofacial surgery and craniofacial assessment. Craniofacial measurements obtained with the EINSTAR scanner showed excellent reliability and accuracy, which qualifies this method for clinical and scientific use.

RESUMO

Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, a kratom metabolite, has attracted increasing attention due to its favorable side effect profile as compared to conventional opioids. Herein, we describe the first enantioselective and scalable total synthesis of this natural product and its epimeric congener, speciogynine pseudoindoxyl. The characteristic spiro-5-5-6-tricyclic system of these alkaloids was formed through a protecting-group-free cascade relay process in which oxidized tryptamine and secologanin analogues were used. Furthermore, we discovered that mitragynine pseudoindoxyl acts not as a single molecular entity but as a dynamic ensemble of stereoisomers in protic environments; thus, it exhibits structural plasticity in biological systems. Accordingly, these synthetic, structural, and biological studies provide a basis for the planned design of mitragynine pseudoindoxyl analogues, which can guide the development of next-generation analgesics.

RESUMO

RTCONF55-16K is a new, reactive conformational data set based on cost-efficient methods to assess different conformational analysis protocols. Our reference calculations underpinned the accuracy of the CENSO (Grimme et al. J. Phys. Chem. A, 2021, 125, 4039) procedure and resulted in alternative recipes with different cost-accuracy compromises. Our general-purpose and economical protocols (CENSO-light and zero, respectively) were found to be 10-30 times faster than the original algorithm, adding only 0.4-0.7 kcal/mol absolute error to the relative free energy estimates.

RESUMO

Introduction: Facial appearance undoubtedly has a strong influence on human life. While a harmonic and beautiful facial form may raise self-esteem, dentofacial deformities can lead not only to functional but also to aesthetic and psychosocial problems. Oral health-related quality of life is measured by several non-specific questionnaires but an adequate instrument for testing the quality of life in patients with dentofacial deformities in Hungarian is not yet available. Objective: Cross-cultural translation and validation of the most frequently used Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) into Hungarian. Method: The original 22-item OQLQ was translated from English to Hungarian (OQLQ-H) by a forward-backwards translation method. The questionnaire was filled out by patients who voluntarily agreed to take part in the study. Validity was evaluated according to the international guidelines. Reliability was evaluated by test-retest analysis. Internal consistency was measured by Cronbach's alpha. Results: OQLQ-H proved to be a reliable questionnaire with good validity and internal consistency. Conclusion: OQLQ-H is a reliable and valid measurement tool to assess dentofacial deformities in the Hungarian speaking population and therefore its use is recommended.

RESUMO

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor is a rare benign intraoral soft tissue neoplasm. Till date, 93 cases have been reported in literature. Clinically, it presents as a slowly growing, painless, firm, submucosal swelling mainly occurring on the anterior two thirds of the dorsum of the tongue. Histopathologically, the tumor is characterized by a well circumscribed, lobular proliferation of round, polygonal, or fusiform cells in a net-like pattern in a myxoid to chondromyxoid background. Although it shows a morphological resemblance to myoepitheliomas of soft tissue and skin, the exact histogenesis remains unclear; a recent publication of a large series has demonstrated recurrent RREB1-MKL2 gene fusions in 90% of the cases, suggesting the possibility of a new entity. The diagnosis is largely supported by immunhistochemical investigations. Here, we present a new case of ECT occurring in a 62-year-old male who presented with a leading complaint of slowly growing painless mass arising from the anterior part of the tongue measuring about 3 cm. This lesion was diagnosed 4 years before recent admittance, but the patient did not undergo the scheduled surgical intervention and was lost to follow-up. As the tumor was still persisting and moderately enlarging, he came back to our clinic. Finally, the mass was completely resected; after 24 month of follow-up, he is doing well, with no signs of recurrence. Orv Hetil. 2019; 160(33): 1319-1323.
