RESUMO

A cinchona-alkaloid-derived chiral primary-amine-catalyzed enantioselective method for the synthesis of the thermodynamically less stable indanedione-fused 2,6-trans-disubstituted spirocyclohexanones is demonstrated. Both the enantiomeric forms of the trans isomer are obtained in excellent yields and enantioselectivities. Furthermore, one of the enantiopure trans-spiranes bearing an additional α-substitution on the cyclohexanone ring was then epimerized into its thermodynamically stable cis counterpart, with little loss of enantioselectivity to demonstrate the feasibility of such a transformation. Mechanistic investigations revealed two competing pathways, a concerted Diels-Alder reaction and a stepwise Michael addition, for the formation of corresponding products.

RESUMO

An enantioselective synthesis of benzopyrano[3,4-c]pyrrolidine derivatives via organocatalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition has been achieved. Cinchona alkaloid-derived organocatalysts as Brønsted bases have been examined for this asymmetric cycloaddition of o-hydroxy aromatic aldimines with 3-substituted coumarins. An unexpected rearrangement of the quaternary acyl moiety in the products resulted in an in situ protection of the o-hydroxy group.

RESUMO

The present study describes the laser welding of Co-based superalloy L605 (52Co-20Cr-10Ni-15W) equivalent to Haynes-25 or Stellite-25. The influence of laser welding process input parameters such as laser beam power and welding speed on mechanical and metallurgical properties of weld joints were investigated. Epitaxial grain growth and dendritic structures were visible in the weld zone. The phase analysis results indicate the formation of hard phases like CrFeNi, CoC, FeNi, and CFe in the weld zone. These hard phases are responsible for the increase in microhardness up to 321 HV0.1 in the weld zone, which is very close to the microhardness of the parent material. From the tensile strength tests, the ductile failure of welded specimens was confirmed due to the presence of dimples, inter-granular cleavage, and micro voids in the fracture zone. The maximum tensile residual stress along the weld line is 450 MPa, whereas the maximum compressive residual stress across the weld line is 500 MPa. On successful application of Response Surface methodology (RSM), laser power of 1448.5 W and welding speed of 600 mm/min i.e., line energy or heat input equal to 144 J/mm, were found to be optimum values for getting sound weld joint properties. The EBSD analysis reveals the elongated grain growth in the weld pool and very narrow grain growth in the heat-affected zone.

RESUMO

An unprecedented organocatalytic enantioselective vinylogous Michael addition/Henry cyclization cascade is presented for the synthesis of highly substituted tetrahydrofluoren-9-ones 3 employing novel 1,3-indandione-derived pronucleophiles 1a-g and nitroalkenes 2. Following a very simple protocol, a wide range of products were obtained in good to excellent yields and with excellent enantioinduction (43-98% yield, up to 98% ee). The reaction proceeded with excellent diastereocontrol despite the simultaneous generation of four stereogenic centers. Surprisingly, when 2-(1-phenylethylidene)-1H-indandione (1h) was used as a pronucleophile, no cyclization was observed, and only Michael addition adducts 4a-x were furnished in very good yields and excellent enantioselectivities.

RESUMO

Cutaneous disorders can precede or follow the initiation of hemodialysis treatment. We evaluated the prevalence of various dermatological manifestations in patients undergoing hemodialysis at least twice a week for minimum of three months at our center. Patients were excluded if they were undergoing hemodialysis less than twice a week or on hemodialysis secondary to ESRD following graft dysfunction. One hundred and forty-three patients were evaluated. Among them, there were 113 male and 30 females. Among the skin changes, pruritus accounted for 56%, Xerosis was observed in 52%, Diffuse blackish hyper pigmentation was seen in 40%. Skin infections was seen in 53% of patients, of these fungal, bacterial and viral infections were 27.2%, 14.6%, and 11.2%, respectively. Kyrle's disease was observed only in 6.9%. Other skin manifestations include eczema 4.8%, psoriasis 2.7%, and drug rash 2.1%. Nail changes were observed in 46 patients of whom 27 patients had onychomycosis. Other changes include discoloration, onycholysis, and splinter hemorrhages. Hair changes were observed in 21.7%. Mucosal changes were seen in 27.3%. In our study, pruritus, xerosis, and pigmentation were higher among skin changes. Recognition and management of some of these dermatological manifestations vastly reduce the morbidity and improve the quality of life.
