RESUMO

Perylenediimide molecules constitute a family of chromophores that undergo singlet fission, a process in which an excited singlet state converts into lower energy triplets on two neighboring molecules, potentially increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. Here, the nonorthogonal configuration interaction method is applied to study the effect of the different crystal packing of various perylenediimide derivatives on the relative energies of the singlet and triplet states, the intermolecular electronic couplings, and the relative rates for singlet fission. The analysis of the wave functions and electronic couplings reveals that charge transfer states play an important role in the singlet fission mechanism. Dimer conformations where the PDI molecules are at large displacements along the long axis and short on the short axis are posed as the most favorable for singlet fission. The role of the substituent at the imide group has been inspected concluding that, although it has no effect in the energies, for some conformations it significantly influences the electronic couplings, and therefore, replacing this substituent with hydrogen may introduce artifacts in the computational modeling of the PDI molecules.

Two different approaches have been implemented to include the effect of dynamic electron correlation in the Non-Orthogonal Configuration Interaction for Fragments (NOCI-F) method. The first is based on shifting the diagonal matrix elements of the NOCI matrix, while the second incorporates the dynamic correlation explicitly in the fragment wave functions used to construct the many-electron basis functions of the NOCI. The two approaches are illustrated for the calculation of the electronic coupling relevant in singlet fission and the coupling of spin moments in organic radicals. Comparison of the calculated diabatic couplings, the NOCI energies and wave functions shows that dynamic electron correlation is not only efficiently but also effectively incorporated by the shifting approach and can largely affect the coupling between electronic states. Also, it brings the NOCI coupling of the spin moments in close agreement with benchmark calculations.

The herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is widely used due to it selective action, and preferential control of dicotyledonous weeds affecting cereal crops. Physiological responses of sensitive dicotyledonous plants to 2,4-D include growth retardation, senescence, and cell death. Due to soil and water contamination by agricultural practices, 2,4-D constitutes a potential risk to non-target plant species. In this work, the potential advantage of using organic modified bentonite (Bent) to adsorb 2,4-D and therefore mitigate damage produced by this herbicide on sensitive not-target vegetable species was investigated. Dodecylamine (DDA) was used as an organic modifier to change the hydrophilic nature of Bent into an organophilic matrix. The adsorption performances of 2,4-D by Bent-DDA were analyzed. The maximum adsorptions of 2,4-D (22.1 mg/L) from aqueous solution containing 1.0 or 2.5 mg/mL Bent-DDA were 40 and 80 %, respectively. The physical interaction of Bent-DDA with 2,4-D was characterized by Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The biological functionality of Bent-DDA matrix as 2,4-D adsorbent was tested in a bioassay in the Arabidopsis thaliana plant model system. The primary root growth of Arabidopsis seedlings is strongly inhibited by low concentrations of 2,4-D. Arabidopsis seedlings submitted to Bent-DDA pre-treated herbicide aqueous solution showed similar root growth than 2,4-D non-treated seedlings. Finally, the ability of Bent-DDA to prevent 2,4-D phytotoxicity was exploratory investigated in lettuce plants. Lettuce plants pre-treated with 20 µg/mL Bent-DDA showed reduced sensitivity to 2,4-D including an increment on chlorophyll content and biomass compared with non-treated plants. Our findings revealed a promising scenario for the application of Bent-DDA as an effective adsorbent of 2,4-D at productive scale.

BACKGROUND: A slower progression of AIDS and increased survival in GBV-C positive individuals, compared with GBV-C negative individuals has been demonstrated; while the loss of GBV-C viremia was closely associated with a rise in mortality and increased progression of AIDS. Following on from the previous reported studies that support the thesis that GBV-C E2 interferes with HIV-1 entry, in this work we try to determine the role of the GBV-C E1 protein in HIV-1 inhibition. METHODS: The present work involves the construction of several overlapping peptide libraries scanning the GBV-C E1 protein and the evaluation of their anti-HIV activity. RESULTS: Specifically, an 18-mer synthetic peptide from the GBV-C E1 protein, E1(139-156), showed similar antiviral activity against HIVs from viruses from clades A, B, C, D and AE. Competitive ELISA using specific gp41-targeting mAbs, fluorescence resonance energy transfer as well as haemolysis assays demonstrated that this E1 peptide sequence interacts with the highly conserved N-terminal region of the HIV-1 gp41 (the fusion peptide) which is essential for viral entry. CONCLUSIONS: We have defined a novel peptide lead compound and described the inhibitory role of a highly conserved fragment of the E1 protein. GENERAL SIGNIFICANCE: The results together allow us to consider the non-pathogenic E1 GBV-C protein as an attractive source of peptides for the development of novel anti-HIV therapies.

UNLABELLED: A fraction of HIV-1 patients are able to generate broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) after 2 to 4 years of infection. In rare occasions such antibodies are observed close to the first year of HIV-1 infection but never within the first 6 months. In this study, we analyzed the neutralization breadth of sera from 157 antiretroviral-naive individuals who were infected for less than 1 year. A range of neutralizing activities was observed with a previously described panel of six recombinant viruses from five different subtypes (M. Medina-Ramirez et al., J Virol 85:5804-5813, 2011, http://dx.doi.org/10.1128/JVI.02482-10). Some sera were broadly reactive, predominantly targeting envelope epitopes within the V2 glycan-dependent region. The neutralization breadth was positively associated with time postinfection (P = 0.0001), but contrary to what has been reported for chronic infections, no association with the viral load was observed. Notably, five individuals within the first 6 months of infection (two as early as 77 and 96 days postinfection) showed substantial cross-neutralization. This was confirmed with an extended panel of 20 Env pseudoviruses from four different subtypes (two in tier 3, 14 in tier 2, and four in tier 1). Sera from these individuals were capable of neutralizing viruses from four different subtypes with a geometric mean 50% infective dose (ID50) between 100 and 800. These results indicate that induction of cross-neutralizing responses, albeit rare, is achievable even within 6 months of HIV-1 infection. These observations encourage the search for immunogens able to elicit this kind of response in preventive HIV-1 vaccine approaches. IMPORTANCE: There are very few individuals able to mount broadly neutralizing activity (bNA) close to the first year postinfection. It is not known how early in the infection cross-neutralizing responses can be induced. In the present study, we show that bNAbs, despite being rare, can be induced much earlier than previously thought. The identification of HIV-1-infected patients with these activities within the first months of infection and characterization of these responses will help in defining new immunogen designs and neutralization targets for vaccine-mediated induction of bNAbs.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: It has been shown that total knee replacement improves functional capacity and physical activity; however, the influence of age remains unclear. The objective is evaluate the pre and postoperative physical activity measured with the Knee Society Score (KSS) score and the Tegner score. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted on patients who underwent total knee replacement (TKR) between January 2016 and December 2019 at our institution. Demographic variables (age, sex, and body mass index), activities of daily living, age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, the Knee Society Score (KSS) in its clinical (KSSc) and functional (KSSf) subscales, the Tegner functional scale, activity variables from the 2011 KSS version, and pain assessment using the visual analog scale were collected. Differences in these variables were analyzed between two age groups: group A (between 65 and 79 years old) and group B (80 years or older). RESULTS: A total of 450 patients were evaluated (group A=245, group B=167). Group A showed a Tegner improvement of 1.19 (95% CI: 1.06-1.31), whereas group B averaged 0.61 (95% CI: 0.43-0.80) (P<.001). Age >80 was an independent risk factor for less Tegner improvement. In KSSc, group A improved by 43 points (95% CI: 40.82-46.14), while group B showed a greater increase of 53 points (95% CI: 49.74-57.80). Adjusted for confounders, those>80 showed significantly higher KSSc improvement (12.8 points). For KSSf, group A improved by 33.91 points (95% CI: 31.07-36.75), and group B by 15.57 points (95% CI: 11.78-19.35). Adjusted for confounders, patients >80 had less improvement than those <80 (19 points). CONCLUSIONS: Patients who underwent TKR experienced improvements in physical and functional activity parameters. While these improvements were seen in the entire population, they were most notable in patients younger than 80 years.

When performing a logistic regression analysis we found, for complications: OR SSF=0.67; ICC=1.11; ASA 3 & 4=0.89 and age=1.04; while for readmissions: OR SSF=2.09; ICC=1.01; ASA 3 & 4=0.79 and age=1. CONCLUSIONS: The ICC and SSF scales showed no differences to the ASA scale in the prediction of readmissions, complications and hospital stay. However, the SSF seems to have a better correlation in predicting unplanned readmission.

Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pto DC3000) causes bacterial speck of tomato, a widely spread disease that causes significant economical losses worldwide. It is representative of many bacterial plant diseases for which effective controls are still needed. Despite the antimicrobial properties of chitosan has been previously described in phytopathogenic fungi, its action on bacteria is still poorly explored. In this work, we report that the chitosan isolated from shrimp exoskeletons (70 kDa and 78 % deacetylation degree) exerts cell damage on Pto DC3000. Chitosan inhibited Pto DC3000 bacterial growth depending on its concentration, medium-pH, and presence of metal ion (Mg(+2)). Biochemical and cellular changes resulting in cell aggregation and impaired bacterial growth were also viewed. In vivo studies using fluorescent probes showed cell aggregation, increase in membrane permeability, and cell death, suggesting the chitosan antibacterial activity is due to its interaction as a polycation with Pto DC3000 membranes. Transmission electron microscopic analysis revealed that chitosan also caused morphological changes and damage in bacterial surfaces. Also, the disease incidence in tomato inoculated with Pto DC3000 was significantly reduced in chitosan pretreated seedlings, revealing a promising action of chitosan as nontoxic biopesticide in tomato plants. Indeed, a wider comprehensive knowledge of the mechanism of action of chitosan in phytopathogenic bacterial cells will increase the chances of its successful application to the control of spread disease in plants.

INTRODUCTION: Thanks to improvements in the medical treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), the life expectancy of these patients has increased, but the overall outcome after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is controversial. We aim to analyse a series of patients with PD, evaluating their clinical status, functional results, complications and survival rates after TKA. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 31 patients with PD operated between 2014-2020. The mean age was 71 years (SD±5.8). There were 16 female patients. The mean follow-up was 68.2 months (SD±36). We used the Knee Scoring System (KSS) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for the functional evaluation. The Modified Hoehn and Yahr Scale was used to assess the severity of PD. All complications were recorded, and survival curves were performed. RESULTS: The mean postoperative KSS evaluation had an increase of 40 points [35 (SD±15) vs 75 (SD±15) (P<.001)]. The mean postoperative VAS decreased 5 points [8 (SD±2) vs 3 (SD±2) (P<.001)]. Thirteen patients reported being very satisfied, 13 were satisfied, and only 5 were poorly satisfied. Seven patients suffered surgical complications, and 4 patients had recurrent patellar instability. At a mean 68.2 months follow-up, the overall survival rate was 93.5%. When considering the secondary patellar resurfacing as the endpoint, the survival rate was 80.6%. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, TKA was associated with excellent functional outcomes in patients with PD. At a mean 68.2 months follow-up, TKA had excellent survivorship in the short term, with recurrent patellar instability as the most common complication. Even though these findings confirm the effectiveness of TKA in this population, a thorough clinical evaluation and multidisciplinary approach are needed to decrease the likelihood of complications.

INTRODUCTION: the current literature relates the return to driving with multiple variables. For various reasons, the current data on the time to return to driving after a total hip arthroplasty (THA) are diverse and even contradictory. We have proposed the objective of determining the time required to drive a manual gear vehicle again in a group of patients who underwent primary THA through a posterolateral approach with focus on manual gear cars. MATERIAL AND METHODS: we have studied the functional results of 112 patients who underwent primary THA between January 2019 and January 2020 in a high level in Cadiz, Andalusia, Spain. RESULTS: the median return to driving was three weeks (IQR 2-4). We have identified that 89.3% of the patients were able to drive again before the sixth week after surgery and in 92% of the cases they did so feeling even safer than before the THA. CONCLUSION: we consider that after the sixth week of an THA it is safe to resume driving a vehicle.


INTRODUCCIÓN: la literatura actual relaciona el regreso a la conducción vehicular con múltiples variables. Sin embargo, los datos actuales sobre el tiempo de regreso a la conducción luego de una artroplastía total de cadera (ATC) son diversos e incluso contradictorios. Por lo tanto, nos hemos planteado el objetivo de determinar el tiempo requerido para volver a conducir en un grupo de pacientes sometidos a una ATC primaria mediante un abordaje posterolateral, centrándonos específicamente en vehículos de marcha manual. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: hemos estudiado los resultados clínico-funcionales de 112 pacientes sometidos a una ATC primaria entre Enero de 2019 y Enero de 2020 en un hospital de alta complejidad en Cádiz, Andalucía, España. RESULTADOS: la mediana del tiempo de regreso a la conducción fue de tres semanas (RIC 2-4). Hemos identificado que 89.3% de los pacientes pudo volver a conducir antes de la sexta semana posterior a la cirugía. Además, en 92% de los casos, los pacientes se sintieron aún más seguros al conducir después de la ATC que antes de la intervención. CONCLUSIÓN: consideramos que a la sexta semana de una ATC es seguro reanudar la conducción de un vehículo.

INTRODUCTION: revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a challenging procedure that requires proper alignment, restoration of bone loss, and prevention of instability. Modern revision systems offer progressive implant constriction with multiple options for offset, augmentation, and fixation stems. OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the clinical outcomes of a modular implant with hybrid fixation in revision TKA with a minimum follow-up of two years. MATERIAL AND METHODS: we retrospectively included all revision TKA surgeries performed between September 2018 and September 2019, using the same implant. Patient demographics, comorbidities, and data on bone defects were recorded. Clinical outcomes were assessed using subjective roles and Maudsley scores and the Knee Society Score (KSS). Complications during follow-up were also documented. RESULTS: a total of 23 patients were analyzed, comprising 65% females and 35% males, with a median age of 71.1 years. Bone defects following implant removal were classified as F2.T2 in 39.13% of cases, F1.T2 in 8.69%, and F1.T1 in the remaining 52.17%. There were significant improvements in the KSS score (preoperative: 53 points, postoperative: 79 points; p < 0.001). Three (13%) complications were reported, two of which were directly related to the surgery, and two patients required subsequent revision surgery. The 2-year survival rate was 91.3%. CONCLUSION: the use of a modular implant with hybrid fixation in revision TKA demonstrated a high 2-year survival rate, significant improvements in clinical scores, and a low incidence of short-term complications. These findings support the efficacy and safety of this approach, providing favorable clinical outcomes and high patient satisfaction.


INTRODUCCIÓN: la artroplastía total de rodilla (ATR) de revisión es un procedimiento desafiante que requiere alineación adecuada, restauración ósea y estabilidad. Los sistemas modernos de revisión ofrecen opciones de implantes modulares con fijación híbrida. OBJETIVO: evaluar los resultados clínicos de un implante modular de fijación híbrida con seguimiento mínimo de dos años. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: se incluyeron retrospectivamente cirugías de revisión de ATR realizadas entre Septiembre de 2018 y Septiembre de 2019 con el mismo implante. Se registraron datos demográficos, comorbilidades y se evaluaron los resultados clínicos utilizando puntuaciones subjetivas y la Knee Society Score (KSS). RESULTADOS: se analizaron 23 pacientes (65% mujeres, 35% hombres; edad mediana: 71.1 años). Los defectos óseos posteriores a la extracción del implante se clasificaron como F2.T2 en 39.13% de los casos, F1.T2 en 8.69%, y F1.T1 en 52.17%. Se observaron mejoras significativas en la puntuación de la KSS (preoperatoria: 53 puntos, postoperatoria: 79 puntos; p < 0.001). Se registraron tres (13%) complicaciones totales, dos relacionadas directamente con la cirugía, y dos casos requirieron una nueva cirugía de revisión. La tasa de supervivencia a los dos años fue de 91.3%. CONCLUSIÓN: el uso del implante modular con fijación híbrida en la revisión de ATR mostró una alta tasa de supervivencia a dos años, mejoras significativas en las puntuaciones clínicas y baja incidencia de complicaciones a corto plazo. Estos resultados respaldan la eficacia y seguridad de este enfoque, proporcionando resultados clínicos favorables y alta satisfacción del paciente.

Several recent studies have identified HIV-infected patients able to produce a broad neutralizing response, and the detailed analyses of their sera have provided valuable information to improve future vaccine design. All these studies have excluded patients on antiretroviral treatment and with undetectable viral loads, who have an improved B cell profile compared to untreated patients. To better understand the induction of neutralizing antibodies in patients on antiretroviral treatment with undetectable viremia, we have screened 508 serum samples from 364 patients (173 treated and 191 untreated) for a broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) response using a new strategy based on the use of recombinant viruses. Sera able to neutralize a minipanel of 6 recombinant viruses, including envelopes from 5 different subtypes, were found in both groups. After IgG purification, we were able to confirm the presence of IgG-associated broadly neutralizing activity in 3.7% (7 of 191) of untreated patients with detectable viremia and 1.7% (3 of 174) of aviremic patients receiving antiretroviral treatment. We thus confirm the possibility of induction of a broad IgG-associated neutralizing response in patients on antiretroviral treatment, despite having undetectable viremia. This observation is in stark contrast to the data obtained from long-term nonprogressors, whose little neutralizing activity has been attributed to the low levels of viral replication.

RESUMO

GronOR is a program package for nonorthogonal configuration interaction calculations. Electronic wave functions are constructed in terms of antisymmetrized products of multiconfiguration molecular fragment wave functions. The computational complexity of the nonorthogonal methodologies implemented in GronOR applied to large molecular assemblies requires a design that takes full advantage of massively parallel supercomputer architectures and accelerator technologies. This work describes the implementation strategy and resulting performance characteristics. In addition to parallelization and acceleration, the software development strategy includes aspects of fault resiliency and heterogeneous computing. The program was designed for large-scale supercomputers but also runs effectively on small clusters and workstations for small molecular systems. GronOR is available as open source to the scientific community.

INTRODUCTION: Ankle syndesmosis injuries can be associated with a spiral mechanism on tibial shaft fractures. We are not aware if there is evidence of the incidence of ipsilateral syndesmotic lesson associated to high-energy tibial shaft fracture mechanisms. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of syndesmotic injuries associated with high-energy tibial shaft fractures. METHODS: 233 diaphyseal tibial fractures operated between January 2007 and January 2017, the fracture patterns were analyzed, they were classified according to AO, the talocrural angle was measured, they analyzed failures and reoperations and described a novel failure method. RESULTS: From a total of 234 fractures that met the inclusion criteria, 159 (64.96%) suffered closed fractures and 75 (32.05%) where open fractures. According to the AO classification system: 152 (64.10%) were simple patterns 42.A; 49 (20.94%) wedge type patterns 42.B and 33 (14.10%) complex patterns 42.C. Ten patients, a 4.27% of the sample, shown an increased talocrural angle in the postoperative radiographs, evidencing shortening of the fibula. Nine patients underwent surgery, the remaining patient was lost to follow-up. All the treated patients presented restoration of the normal talocrural angle. CONCLUSION: The incidence of syndesmotic injuries associated with high-energy tibial shaft fractures reaches 4.27%. We think that is necessary to evaluate the ankle and syndesmosis in all tibial shaft fractures, even with high-energy patterns, not only in spiral patterns.

A liquid chromatographic method has been developed, in combination with the multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares algorithm (MCR-ALS), for the simultaneous determination of marker pteridines in urine samples. A central composite design has been applied to optimize the factors influencing the separation (buffer concentration, buffer pH, flow rate, oven temperature, mobile-phase composition). A set of 15 calibration samples were randomly prepared, in a concentration range of 0.5-10.5 ng mL(-1) for neopterin, biopterin, and pterin; 4.0-8.0 ng mL(-1) for xanthopterin; and 0.5-4.5 ng mL(-1) for isoxanthopterin. The validation was carried out with fortified urine samples from healthy adults. The optimized conditions were a mobile-phase composition of 10 mM citric buffer at pH 5.44 and acetonitrile (94.5/5.5, v/v), a flow rate of 1.0 mL min(-1), and an oven temperature of 25 °C. The detection system consisted of a fast-scanning spectrofluorimeter, which allows obtaining of second-order data matrices containing the fluorescence intensity as a function of retention time and emission wavelength. In this work, MCR-ALS was used to cope with coeluting interferences, on account of the second-order advantage inherent to this algorithm which, in addition, is able to handle data sets deviating from trilinearity, like the high-performance liquid chromatography data analyzed in the present report. The developed approach enabled us to determine five pteridines, some of them with overlapped profiles, reducing the experimental time and reagent consumption. Ratio values for pteridines/creatinine in urine, for infected children with different pathologies, are reported in this work.

Hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OHPAHs) in biological fluids, such as milk, are considered as biomarkers of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in organism. The presence of OHPAHs in milk samples indicates a potential contamination on human organisms and milk producing animals. In this way, infants can be contaminated by lactation through the consumption of milk of both, human and animal origins. In this paper, eight OHPAHs have been analyzed in commercial cow milks and in human breast milk using HPLC and fast scanning fluorimetric detection (FSFD). Extraction and cleaning procedures of OHPAHs from milk samples have been investigated, and the experimental results using two bibliographic protocols and a new proposed protocol have been compared. The new protocol using enzymatic hydrolysis, proteins precipitation and, solvent extraction using acetonitrile, was proposed as the most adequate for the determination of 2-hydroxyfluorene, 1-/9-, 2-/3- and 4-hydroxyphenanthrenes, 1-hydroxypyrene and 3-hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene. The method recoveries ranged from 80-102% and 75-91% for fresh cow milk and for human breast milk, respectively, for all components except for 3-OHBz[a] Py. Low recovery values were calculated for 3-hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene in all cases. No statistical difference in the method performance was observed between fresh cow milk and human breast milk.

OBJECTIVE: Actually there is a controversy about the treatment of hip fractures on older patients with high risk of dislocation. Our study is focused on report clinico-functional and radiographic results in this population treated with total hip replacement using a dual mobility system after a minimum follow up of 2 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the period from January 2015 to January 2016 patients assisted at the Emergency Unit at the participant hospital were recluted for participation. A total of 137 patients were assisted and 41 fulfilled the inclusion criteria and accepted to participate. All patients received a total hip replacement with a dual mobility system (cemented or uncemented). The patients were evaluated with the Mini-Mental State Examination, walking distance test, preop and postop at 3 and 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, one year and subsequent years. Radiographic evaluation was scheduled with clinico-functional review. RESULTS: Forty-one patients included, follow up average 2.4 years (range 2 to 3.2 years). Mean age 85.2 (range 80 to 96 years). Four patients died during follow up due to causes not related to the total hip replacement and the implant was functioning. One case have an infection and was revised in one stage procedure. One case have an infection at 8 months follow-up and was revised in one stage procedure. There were no dislocations. CONCLUSION: The use of dual mobility system in this high dislocation risk population has shown good clinical and functional results, and support the sistematic indication in our services.

INTRODUCTION: Since arthroscopy remains a controversial treatment of hip dysplasia, our objective was to analyse its clinical and radiological results in a cohort of patients with dysplasia and compare them to controls with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively analysed a series of patients who underwent hip arthroscopy for the treatment of labral pathology; 29 of them with borderline hip dysplasia and 197 with FAI, comparing reoperations and joint survival. The diagnosis of borderline dysplasia was made with a lateral centre-edge angle greater than 18° but less than 25°. The average follow-up was 43 months. We performed a multivariate regression analysis to evaluate the association of reoperations with different demographic, radiological and intraoperative variables. RESULTS: Seven complications were registered in the FAI group (1 medically treated superficial wound infection, 3 pudendal nerve paraesthesias, 1 deep vein thrombosis and 2 heterotopic ossifications) and none in the dysplasia group. While 5 patients from the FAI group required a new surgery, none of the dysplasia group was re-operated (p=.38). After adjusting for confounders, reoperation showed a very strong association with the finding of osteochondral lesions during index surgery, with a coefficient of .12 (p<.001, 95%CI=.06-.17). CONCLUSION: Hip arthroscopy was useful in the treatment of borderline dysplasia, without non-inferior survival compared to the FAI group. We suggest indicating it carefully in dysplasia cases, whenever the symptoms of femoroacetabular friction prevail over those of instability.
