RESUMO

Dynamics of biologically active brain peptides: N-acetyl-1-aspartat-1-glutamat (NAAG) and homocarnosine (gamma-aminobutyric-1-histidine), aminoacids and their derivatives GABA, histidine and histamine, in the blood of rats and rabbits of different age under hyperoxia was studied. Exposure of animals to 4 atm of oxygen considerably decreased NAA and NAAG contents in the brain of 21 and 30-day old rats and induced the 85% and 47% decrease of homocarnosine and GABA contents respectively in the brain of 30-day old rabbits. Brain histidine and blood histamine contents increased in 14, 21 and 30-day old rabbits.

RESUMO

Changes in the total peroxidase activity (TPA) and extraerythrocyte hemoglobin (EEH) content have been studied in the blood plasma and serum of patients treated with hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO). TPA and EEH content after the 3rd HBO session increased by 38% and 257%, respectively, in the plasma and by 56% and 74%, respectively, in the serum. By the end of HBO therapy course, after the 8th session, plasma level of the parameters under study normalized, while their serum level was higher than baseline. Possible use of the parameters under study for the assessment of HBO efficacy is discussed.

RESUMO

Extra-erythrocyte hemoglobin (EEH) level and total peroxidase activity (TPA) have been analysed in the blood serum and plasma of 44 patients following hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO). The levels of the parameters tested decreased after 3 HBO procedures and remained low to the end of the treatment period in the first group of patients. In the second group of patients, on the contrary, EEH and TPA levels increased after 3 HBO procedures and remained high to the end of the treatment period. In both groups of patients EEH changes correlated with TPA alterations. Possible EEH and TPA determination for the estimation and enhancement of HBO treatment efficacy is discussed.

RESUMO

The protective effect of 2-aminobenzimidazole (2-ABI) was studied on white rats exposed to oxygen at 4 and 6 ata. During an exposure to oxygen at 6 ata injections of 2-ABI (in 1 ml saline at a dose of 5 mg per 100 g body weight) 10 min prior to the exposure delayed significantly (3 to 4 times) the time when convulsions began and assured 100% survival after the exposure (30 days). During an exposure to 4 ata (prolonged exposure) the injections did not delay convulsions but alleviated them and provided 100% survival after the exposure (30 days). Variations in the content of ammonia, glutamine, glutamic and aspartic acids and GAMA in the brain of treated and untreated animals were examined. By the beginning of convulsions the content of dicarboxylic amino acids and GABA remained unchanged in the treated animals. The level of ammonia and glutamine was not controlled by 2-ABI. After the exposure 2-ABI accelerated the return of metabolic parameters to the normal.
