STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. INTRODUCTION: Flexion (Palmar Pinch, PP-MVC and Tip Pinch, TP-MVC) and extension (E-MVC) maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of the index-thumb system offers a quick way to estimate the level of hands' impairment in several musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: This study established normative data of PP-MVC, TP-MVC, E-MVC in the Italian population and evaluated their correlation with hand dominance, anthropometric factors, dexterity and workload level. METHODS: In our study, 303 healthy people (150F, 153M) were recruited. Participants performed PP-MVC, TP-MVC and E-MVC tests per hand, conducted by using a pinch-gauge. T-test was used to analyze MVC means between sexes and between hands. One-way ANOVA was conducted to compare MVC means in male and female samples stratified by age (18-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60-74, +75). Spearman's correlation analysis was performed to determine anthropometric variables, dexterity and workload level effects on MVCs. RESULTS: Medium-to-large effect sizes of age were shown in the majority of tasks. The 30 to 44 years and then +75 years age groups showed the highest and the lowest values, respectively, for both sex and both hands. Men were meanly 50% stronger, and the dominant hand showed higher values (6-10%). MVC-tests correlated moderately with weight and height weakly with dexterity and workload level. CONCLUSIONS: After 30 to 44 years, hand strength declines in line with the normal process of aging that also entails muscle fibers and the reduction of daily activities in older adults. In relative terms, E-MVC showed the highest strength loss in the over 75 seconds. The difference between sexes was higher in E-MVC than in flexion MVCs. E-MVC seems to depend more on musculoskeletal architecture that differs from women to men, according to the highest correlation between E-MVC and anthropometric variables. Only high workload levels impacted hand strength. In heaviest occupations, no PP-MVCs differences were observed between hands.

Background and Objectives: Verbal encouragement (VE) can be used to enhance performance in several sports, even though no studies have been conducted among swimmers and only a few effects have been reported in elite athletes. Besides influencing motor performance, VE is also known to enhance the physical load, thus potentially increasing the probability of developing fatigue. With this in mind, this study aimed to explore the effects of VE in swimmers in order to fill in the knowledge gap concerning the aquatic environment. Materials and Methods: Each athlete swam a maximal 200 m freestyle trial under two different conditions: one trial with VE and the other without VE. The two main outcome measures were: (1) performance velocity (m/s); and (2) muscle fatigue, investigated by means of surface electromyography. Sixty swimmers were recruited, aged 18.63 ± 3.46 years (median 18 years), 28 men (47%), and 32 women (53%), with 7.03 ± 3.9 years of experience. Results: With VE, performance significantly improved in the swim trial (p < 0.001, effect size (ES) −0.95, large). When breaking the results down into the first half (first (0−100 m) vs. the second half (100−200 m)), the ES was large in the first part (−1.11), indicating an improvement in performance. This worsened, however, in the second part of the trial (ES 0.63). In the multivariate analysis, years of experience were found to be a significant predictor of the change in overall performance (p = 0.011). There was a significant increase in muscle fatigue induced by VE, overall, and during the second half, but not during the first half of the trial. Conclusions: The present study indicates that VE during a middle-distance event (200 m) increases performance most in swimmers with little experience. However, it has a negative impact on fatigue.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a rare inflammatory disorder characterized by important psychiatric and neurologic symptoms. The literature documents high rates of neuropsychological dysfunction in N-methyl D-aspartate-receptor (NMDAr) encephalitis but papers don't consider specifically calculation disturbances between the long-term deficits, although deficits in executive control and episodic memory were less likely to resolve. CASE REPORT: Here we present a severe case of NMDAr encephalitis in a young patient without a relevant past medical history. Upon first examination he presented psycho-motor slowdown, speech disorders, severe cognitive deficits in all areas: concentration, attention, memory, language, dual task functions, increased latency in responses, severe dyscalculia. Upon first evaluation, the young patient underwent a battery of neuropsychological tests and he showed a dysexecutive syndrome with performances significantly low for age and education. Our patient hence underwent 1 month of intensive cognitive rehabilitation. After the rehabilitation treatment, he presented an amelioration in all domains except calculations. CONCLUSIONS: In our patient the calculation disorder has proved to be the most relevant problem and the most difficult to treat. Clinicians should consider a careful approach to determine the prognosis of this syndrome because of the wide range of deficits, the need of prolonged treatment and the rate of long-term sequelae.

Visuospatial neglect (VN) frequently occurs in Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) and requires specific rehabilitation. In this single-case study, we investigated the efficacy of a computer-assisted cognitive training (CCT) alone or coupled with multiple sessions of anodal transcranial direct-current stimulation (A-tDCS) over the right posterior parietal cortex in improving left VN symptoms in a patient with PCA. The digital ReMoVES platform was used for both VN assessment and training. We found a significant improvement after CCT combined with A-tDCS within the limits of a single-case, our results suggest, for the first time, the usefulness of this combined approach in a neurodegenerative disorder.

Digital medical solutions can be very helpful in restorative neurology, as they allow the patients to practice their rehabilitation activities remotely. This work discloses ReMoVES, an IoMT system providing telemedicine services, in the context of Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation, within the frame of the project STORMS. A rehabilitative protocol of exercises can be provided as ReMoVES services and integrated into the Individual Rehabilitation Project as designed by a remote multidimensional medical team. In the present manuscript, the first phase of the study is described, including the definition of the needs to be addressed, the employed technology, the design and the development of the exergames, and the possible practical/professional and academic consequences. The STORMS project has been implemented with the aim to act as a starting point for the development of digital telerehabilitation solutions that support Multiple Sclerosis patients, improving their living conditions. This paper introduces a study protocol and it addresses pre-clinical research needs, where system issues can be studied and better understood how they might be addressed. It also includes tools to favor remote patient monitoring and to support the clinical staff.

Background and Objectives: The most prevalent dementia are Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. There is evidence that cortical synaptic function may differ in these two conditions. Habituation of cortical responses to repeated stimuli is a well-preserved phenomenon in a normal brain cortex, related to an underlying mechanism of synaptic efficacy regulation. Lack of habituation represents a marker of synaptic dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to assess the habituation of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) in 29 patients affected by mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD-type) or vascular (VD-type) dementia. Materials and Methods: All patients underwent a clinical history interview, neuropsychological evaluation, and neuroimaging examination. SEPs were elicited by electrical stimulation of the right median nerve at the wrist. Six-hundred stimuli were delivered, and cortical responses divided in three blocks of 200. Habituation was calculated by measuring changes of N20 amplitude from block 1 to block 3. SEP variables recorded in patients were compared with those recorded in 15 age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers. Results: SEP recordings showed similar N20 amplitudes in AD-type and VD-type patients in block 1, that were higher than those recorded in controls. N20 amplitude decreased from block 1 to block 3 (habituation) in normal subjects and in VD-type patients, whereas in AD-type patients it remained unchanged (lack of habituation). Conclusions: The findings suggest that neurophysiologic mechanisms of synaptic efficacy that underneath habituation are impaired in patients with AD-type dementia but not in patients with VD-type dementia. SEPs habituation may contribute to early distinction of Alzheimer's disease vs. vascular dementia.

CONTEXT: Kinesio Taping (KT) produces several clinical effects, including pain relief, edema absorption, and improved muscle performance. When applied in the insertion to origin mode, it is claimed to inhibit excessive muscle contractions. OBJECTIVE: Investigate whether KT applied in the insertion to origin mode could reduce the exaggerated reflex contraction of spastic muscles. DESIGN: Randomized crossover trial, with a restricted block randomization. SETTING: Clinical laboratory and swimming pool. PATIENTS: Seven para-swimmers. INTERVENTION: KT, applied in inhibitory mode, to investigate its effect on knee extensor spasticity. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary outcome is stretch reflex, as compared with clinical assessment of spasticity by Modified Ashworth Scale and self-perceived spasticity by numeric rating scale. Secondary outcomes were Medical Research Council for strength of knee extensor muscles and chronometric swimming performance in 100-m freestyle. RESULTS: KT significantly decreased the amplitude of stretch reflex (P < .001), whereas the placebo treatment produced no significant effects. Scores of Medical Research Council for strength and Modified Ashworth Scale did not change after KT, whereas numeric rating scale scores for spasticity significantly decreased (P = .001). The swimming performance was significantly improved after KT treatment as compared with baseline (P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: This exploratory study performed on para-athletes suggests that KT could reduce spasticity. This outcome has 3-fold implications for clinical, rehabilitation, and sport methods.

AIMS: The musician's hand represents a complex system, which requires important motor skills. Although several studies have already investigated rehabilitation outcomes and techniques in musicians after hand lesions, none have been addressed specifically to objectively quantifiable functional parameters. The purpose of our study was to study hand functionality in violinists in order to provide foundations on which to establish and develop more appropriate rehabilitation protocols. STUDY DESIGN: An observational cross-sectional cohort study consisting of 34 subjects, including 23 students and 11 professional violinists who were either studying or working at a conservatory. Results were compared to a data set of a non-musician control group. METHODS: Nine-hole peg test and hand test system (HTS) were used to perform the study. A hand-held dynamometer was used to measure hand grip and tripod pinch maximal isometric voluntary contraction of both hands. RESULTS: Hand strength did not significantly differ on either side between professional and student violinists. A significant difference was seen when comparing violinists as a whole versus the non-musician control group. HTS highlighted significant differences in dexterity. CONCLUSION: Violinists develop better overall motor performances of the left hand, and their performance is better than normal "non-musician" controls. Dexterity and precision of execution positively correlate to years of practice. We conclude that rehabilitation of a violinist's hand should be aimed at enhancing motor performance of the left hand and should be focused to maximize dexterity of both hands.

The occurrence of the overwork weakness (OW) in Charcot-Marie-tooth (CMT) disease has been debated for a long time. Especially at the hands level, it is still unclear as to whether OW occurs. Contrasting results may relate to the different muscle groups evaluated and the instruments used. We concentrated to the upper limbs (UL). We recruited 120 subjects, 60 CMT patients and 60 normal controls and evaluated the strength of the tripod pinch and of the hand-grip with a dynamometer, the opposition ability with the thumb opposition test (TOT) and applied an innovative instrumental testing of hand function using the sensor engineered glove test (SEGT), which previously demonstrated its sensitiveness to measure severity of hands dysfunction in CMT patients. In CMT patients, TOT scores were significantly higher in the non-dominant hand (NDH) compared to dominant hand (DH), strength in the NDH was slightly but not significantly better than the DH. Finally, SEGT results were similar between the NDH and DH, whereas in normal controls the DH performed better. In conclusion, this study supports the existence of the overwork weakness in CMT. We can speculate that the dexterity and overall ability of the hands appear more impaired in the DH as a result of a weakness and incapacity of opposition. Our results support the importance of avoiding supramaximal exercises and educating patients to prevent incorrect movements.

Many years after its initial description, paratonia remains a poorly understood concept. It is described as the inability to relax muscles during muscle tone assessment with the subject involuntary facilitating or opposing the examiner. Although related to cognitive impairment and frontal lobe function, the underlying mechanisms have not been clarified. Moreover, criteria to distinguish oppositional paratonia from parkinsonian rigidity or spasticity are not yet available. Paratonia is very frequently encountered in clinical practice and only semi-quantitative rating scales are available. The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of a quantitative measure of paratonia using surface electromyography. Paratonia was elicited by performing consecutive metronome-synchronized continuous and discontinuous elbow movements in a group of paratonic patients with cognitive impairment. Goniometric and electromyographic recordings were performed on biceps and triceps brachii muscles. Facilitatory (mitgehen) and oppositional (gegenhalten) paratonia could be recorded on both muscles. After normalization with voluntary maximal contraction, biceps showed higher paratonia than triceps. Facilitatory paratonia was higher than oppositional on the biceps. Movement repetition induced increased paratonic burst amplitude only when flexion and extension movements were performed continuously. Both facilitatory and oppositional paratonia increased with movement repetition. Only oppositional paratonia increased following faster movements. This is the first study providing a quantitative and objective characterization of paratonia using electromyography. Unlike parkinsonian rigidity, oppositional paratonia increases with velocity and with consecutive movement repetition. Like spasticity, oppositional paratonia is velocity-dependent, but different from spasticity, it increases during movement repetition instead of decreasing. A quantitative measure of paratonia could help better understanding its pathophysiology and could be used for research purposes on cognitive impairment.

BACKGROUND: We present the detailed protocol set up to investigate how agonistic sport affects the self-perceived psychological and emotional well-being of disabled young people. METHODS: The study will be carried out on a number of subjects as large as 800-1200, using well-established indices that give a quantitative measure of such well-being, namely SF-12 and PGWBI. The related questionnaires will be administered to the participants to a forthcoming international event, the European Para-Youth Games, 9-15 October 2017, Liguria, Italy, as well as to a reference population of a similar number of subjects, made up of young disabled people that do not practice agonistic sport. DISCUSSION: We expect that the outcomes of the study may strongly impact not only the socio-sanitary field but also society in general, as disabled people can be considered an extreme situation in the issue of balancing individual needs and environment to pursue psychological well-being. Learning new information is crucial in daily activities and occurs continuously during a subject's lifetime. Retention of learned material is required for later recall and reuse, although learning capacity is limited and interference between consecutively learned information may occur. Learning processes are impaired in Parkinson's disease (PD); however, little is known about the processes related to retention and interference. The aim of this study is to investigate the retention and anterograde interference using a declarative sequence learning task in drug-naive patients in the disease's early stages. Eleven patients with PD and eleven age-matched controls learned a visuomotor sequence, SEQ1, during Day1; the following day, retention of SEQ1 was assessed and, immediately after, a new sequence of comparable complexity, SEQ2, was learned. The comparison of the learning rates of SEQ1 on Day1 and SEQ2 on Day2 assessed the anterograde interference of SEQ1 on SEQ2. We found that SEQ1 performance improved in both patients and controls on Day2. Surprisingly, controls learned SEQ2 better than SEQ1, suggesting the absence of anterograde interference and the occurrence of learning optimization, a process that we defined as "learning how to learn." Patients with PD lacked such improvement, suggesting defective performance optimization processes.

To describe a new test to quantitatively evaluate hand function in patients affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy (CMT). The sensor-engineered glove test (SEGT) was applied to CMT patients (N: 26) and compared with a cohort of healthy controls (HC, N: 26). CMT patients were further divided into subjects with clinically normal (group 1) or impaired hand (group 2) function. The SEGT parameters evaluated were touch duration, inter-tapping interval, and movement rate parameters of two different sequences: finger tapping (FT) and index-medium-ring-little (IMRL) performed at self-paced mode (SPM) and maximum velocity (MV). Hand function and strength were assessed by the 9-hole peg test (9HPT) and dynamometry. Disability of patients was measured by the CMT neuropathy score. CMT patients had significantly worst performances at SEGT than controls regarding the rate of execution of both FT (at MV) and IMRL sequences (at SPM and MV). The rate parameter at MV in IMRL sequence showed a significant trend of decreasing in its average between HC (n: 26, rate = 3.08 ± 0.52 Hz), group 1 (n: 9, rate = 2.64 ± 0.66 Hz) and group 2 (n: 17, rate = 2.19 ± 0.45 Hz) (p for trend <0.001). No correlations were found with either 9HPT, dynamometry, electrophysiology, and the CMT neuropathy score. The SEGT test is sensitive to show hand dysfunction in CMT patients, with and without clinically impaired hands.

IL-10 is a potent anti-inflammatory molecule that, in phagocytes, negatively targets cytokine expression at transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels. Posttranscriptional checkpoints also represent the specific target of a recently discovered, evolutionary conserved class of small silencing RNAs known as "microRNAs" (miRNAs), which display the peculiar function of negatively regulating mRNA processing, stability, and translation. In this study, we report that activation of primary human monocytes up-regulates the expression of miR-187 both in vitro and in vivo. Accordingly, we identify miR-187 as an IL-10-dependent miRNA playing a role in IL-10-mediated suppression of TNF-α, IL-6, and the p40 subunit of IL-12 (IL-12p40) produced by primary human monocytes following activation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). Ectopic expression of miR-187 consistently and selectively reduces TNFα, IL-6, and IL-12p40 produced by LPS-activated monocytes. Conversely, the production of LPS-induced TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-12p40 is increased significantly when miR-187 expression is silenced. Our data demonstrate that miR-187 directly targets TNF-α mRNA stability and translation and indirectly decreases IL-6 and IL-12p40 expression via down-modulation of IκBζ, a master regulator of the transcription of these latter two cytokines. These results uncover an miRNA-mediated pathway controlling cytokine expression and demonstrate a central role of miR-187 in the physiological regulation of IL-10-driven anti-inflammatory responses.

PURPOSE: Post-activation depression (PaD) refers to the inhibition of the H-reflex induced by a preceding conditioning stimulus able to activate the afferents mediating the H-reflex itself. PaD can be investigated assessing the frequency-related depression of the H-reflex. This parameter, which is highly correlated to the severity of spasticity, has been used in the longitudinal assessment of spastic patients, in particular to assess the effect of drugs and rehabilitation over the years. However, in such longitudinal assessment, changes observed might be age related and not only disease related. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible age effects on PaD. METHODS: The frequency-related depression of the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) H-reflex was examined in two groups of young (20 subjects; 28 ± 3 years) and aged (18 subjects; 69 ± 6 years) healthy subjects. PaD was evaluated by comparing the H-reflex amplitudes obtained with a stimulation frequency of 0.1 Hz with those obtained using higher frequencies (0.33-0.5-1-2 Hz). RESULTS: The results showed that frequency-related depression of the FCR H-reflex is similar in young and elderly subjects at all frequencies, with the exception of 2 Hz. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that ageing does not affect the frequency-related depression of the FCR H-reflex at the frequencies of 1 Hz or lower, supporting the reliability of this method to assess PaD in the clinical practice, particularly for the longitudinal assessment of spasticity. A decrease of GABA-ergic presynaptic inhibition seems to be the more likely explanation for the age-related changes that we observed at the frequency of 2 Hz.

Background: Subjects with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease show hands impairment which is a relevant problem affecting the quality of life. This symptom is related to muscle weakness and reduced motor coordination of the upper limb. However, most studies focus on lower limb impairment, therefore the investigation of upper limb disability is necessary to identify biomarkers able to monitor disease-specific features and to tailor rehabilitation. Objective: This study aimed at characterizing upper limb muscle co-contraction using the co-contraction index (CCI) in CMT population. Methods: Upper limb kinematic and electromyography (EMG) data were collected from fourteen CMT subjects (6-CMT1A and 8-CMT1X) during motor tasks typical of daily living activities. Rudolph's CCI was used to quantify muscle co-contraction of four muscle pairs acting on shoulder, elbow and wrist. All CMT subjects underwent clinical examination. Thirteen healthy subjects served as the normative reference (HC). Results: CMT1X and CMT1A showed a significant reduction in CCI for distal and proximal muscle pairs compared to HC. Furthermore, CMT1A showed greater values of CCI compared to CMT1X mainly for the axial and axial-to-proximal muscle pairs. Movement speed and smoothness were not altered compared to HC. In addition, EMG metrics showed moderate-to-strong significant correlations with clinical outcomes. Conclusions: CCI was able to quantify disease-specific deficits with respect to the normative reference, highlighting motor control alterations even before motor output impairment. CCI was also sensitive in detecting CMT subtypes-based differences and adopted compensatory strategies. Our findings suggest that CCI can be an outcome measure for CMT disease monitoring and interventional studies.

Introduction: Dysphagia in post COVID-19 patients could be caused by several factors, including reduced pharyngolaryngeal coordination due to SARS-CoV-2 tropism to the central and/or peripheral nervous system. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of COVID-19-related dysphagia successfully treated with botulinum toxin type A injection. Case description: We report the case of a patient with severe oropharyngeal dysphagia due to COVID-19 confirmed by fibre endoscopy. As a result, the patient required an enteral feeding tube. After two months of traditional swallowing therapies, there was only limited improvement. An electrophysiologic evaluation of the cricopharyngeal muscle was performed and showed a normal inhibition of the cricopharyngeal muscle, followed by a hypertonic rebound. Based on this result, we decided to perform a unilateral laryngeal injection of botulinum toxin type A. After the injection, the patient's swallowing function improved significantly, allowing him to return to oral feeding. Discussion: Newly diagnosed oropharyngeal dysphagia was found in 35.3% of hospitalised patients with COVID-19. There are several possible causes of COVID-19-associated dysphagia, including stroke, encephalitis, critical illness neuropathy, Guillain-Barré syndrome and skeletal muscle injury. In our case, since stroke was excluded by brain MRI, cranial nerve injury was a possible explanation for the difficult recovery of swallowing despite daily swallowing therapy. Conclusion: We suggest that electrophysiology is a valid tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia. LEARNING POINTS: SARS-CoV-2 tropism to the central and/or peripheral nervous system can cause dysphagia in post COVID-19 patients.An electrophysiologic approach is useful for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia.A single botulinum toxin type A injection is a valid treatment option to improve the swallowing function in patients with post COVID-19 dysphagia.

Introduction: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a neurological disorder that is potentially reversible and clinically characterized by a specific triad of symptoms, including gait disturbance, cognitive disorders, and urinary incontinence. In INPH assessment, the most commonly used test is the Timed Up and Go test (TUG), but a more comprehensive assessment would be necessary. The first aim of the present study is to verify the sensitivity of a protocol with both clinical and instrumental outcome measures for gait and balance in recognizing INPH patients. The second aim is to verify the most important spatio-temporal parameters in INPH assessment and their possible correlations with clinical outcome measures. Methods: Between January 2019 and June 2022, we evaluated 70 INPH subjects. We assessed balance performances with the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), and TUG, both single (ST) and dual task (DT). We also performed an instrumental gait assessment with the GAITRite electronic walkway system, asking the patients to walk on the carpet for one minute at normal speed, fast speed, and while performing a dual task. We compared the results with those of 20 age-matched healthy subjects (HS). Results: INPH patients obtained statistically significant lower scores at the BBS, SPPB, and TUG DT but not at the TUG ST, likely because the DT involves cognitive factors altered in these subjects. Concerning instrumental gait evaluation, we found significant differences between HS and INPH patients in almost all spatio-temporal parameters except cadence, which is considered a relevant factor in INPH guidelines. We also found significant correlations between balance outcome measures and gait parameters. Discussion: Our results confirm the usefulness of BBS and suggest improving the assessment with SPPB. Although the TUG ST is the most commonly used test in the literature to evaluate INPH performances, it does not identify INPH; the TUG DT, instead, might be more useful. The GAITRite system is recognized as a quick and reliable tool to assess walking abilities and spatio-temporal parameters in INPH patients, and the most useful parameters are stride length, stride width, speed, and the percentage of double support. Both clinical and instrumental evaluation may be useful in recognizing subjects at risk for falls.

Groin pain syndrome (GPS) is a prevalent issue in soccer. This study assessed the effectiveness of a new preventive protocol on GPS for youth soccer players. The protocol included targeted stretching and strengthening exercises for the adductor and core muscles from preseason to midseason. A questionnaire and two pain provocation tests were used for the evaluation. Mild GPS required positive results in at least two evaluations, while severe GPS was associated with pain incompatible with engagement in any activity confirmed by diagnostic ultrasound. Forty-two elite male athletes (aged 16.9 ± 0.7 years) participated in the study, with half of them assigned to the usual training (control group) and the remaining athletes undergoing the preventive protocol (treatment group) for 24 weeks. GPS rates were 14.3% (three diagnoses: two mild, one severe) in the treatment group and 28.6% (six diagnoses: three mild, three severe) in the control group. Toward the end of the season, three players, one from the treatment group and two from the control group had to stop playing due to severe GPS problems. In addition, one player in the control group stopped midseason. Even though the reduction in the risk of developing GPS was not significant (relative risk of 0.50 ([95%CI 0.14 to 1.74], p = 0.2759), the halved incidence of severe GPS and the increased muscle strength related to the treatment (p = 0.0277) are encouraging data for future studies.
