RESUMO

With technology scaling, maintaining the reliability of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) has become more challenging. Therefore, on-die error correction codes have been introduced to accommodate reliability issues in DDR5. However, the current solution still suffers from high overhead when a large DRAM capacity is used to deliver high performance. We present a DRAM chip architecture that can track faults at byte-level DRAM cell errors to address this problem. DRAM faults are classified as temporary or permanent in our proposed architecture, with no additional pins and with minor DRAM chip modifications. Hence, we achieve reliability comparable to that of other state-of-the-art solutions while incurring negligible performance and energy overhead. Furthermore, the faulty locations are efficiently exposed to the operating system (OS). Thus, we can significantly reduce the required scrubbing cycle by scrubbing only faulty DRAM pages while reducing the system failure probability up to 5000∼7000 times relative to conventional operation.

RESUMO

Cytological profiling (CP) assay against a human olfactory neuroshpere-derived (hONS) cell line using a library of traditional Chinese medicinal plant extracts gave indications that the ethanolic extract of Macleaya cordata (Willd) R. Br. elicited strong perturbations to various cellular components. Further chemical investigation of this extract resulted in the isolation of two new benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids, (6R)-10-methoxybocconoline (1) and 6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-10-methoxy-5,6-dihydrochelerythrine (2). Their planar structures were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR studies, together with MS data. The absolute configuration for position C-6 of 1 and relative configurations for position C-6 and C-1' of 2 were assigned by density functional theory (DFT) calculations of ECD and NMR data, respectively. Also isolated were fourteen known metabolites, including ten alkaloids (3-12) and four coumaroyl-containing compounds (13-16). Cytological profiling of the isolates against Parkinson's Disease (PD) patient-derived olfactory cells revealed bocconoline (3) and 6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-5,6-dihydrochelerythrine (4) significantly perturbated the features of cellular organelles including early endosomes, mitochondria and autophagosomes. Given that hONS cells from PD patients model some functional aspects of the disease, the results suggested that these phenotypic profiles may have a role in the mechanisms underlying PD and signified the efficacy of CP in finding potential chemical tools to study the biological pathways in PD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Influenza A viruses of swine (IAV-S) cause acute and subclinical respiratory disease. To increase our understanding of the etiology of the subclinical form and thus help prevent the persistence of IAV-S in pig populations, we conducted active virologic surveillance in Vietnam, the second-largest pig-producing country in Asia, from February 2010 to December 2013. RESULTS: From a total of 7034 nasal swabs collected from clinically healthy pigs at 250 farms and 10 slaughterhouses, we isolated 172 IAV-S from swine at the weaning and early-fattening stages. The isolation rate of IAV-S was significantly higher among pigs aged 3 weeks to 4.5 months than in older and younger animals. IAV-S were isolated from 16 large, corporate farms and 6 family-operated farms from among the 250 farms evaluated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that "having more than 1,000 pigs" was the most influential risk factor for IAV-S positivity. Farms affected by reassortant IAV-S had significantly larger pig populations than did those where A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses were isolated, thus suggesting that large, corporate farms serve as sites of reassortment events. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate the asymptomatic circulation of IAV-S in the Vietnamese pig population. Raising a large number of pigs on a farm has the strongest impact on the incidence of subclinical IAV-S infection. Given that only some of the corporate farms surveyed were IAV-S positive, further active monitoring is necessary to identify additional risk factors important in subclinical infection of pigs with IAV-S in Vietnam.

RESUMO

This study aimed to identify the presence of microplastics in green mussels (Perna viridis), surface seawater, and beach sediment on the North Coast of Vietnam. The average concentration of MPs in mussels was 3.67 ± 1.20 MPs/g wet weight and 25.05 ± 5.36 MPs/individual. Regarding surface seawater and beach sediments, the MPs concentration was found at 88.00 ± 30.88 MPs/L and 4800 ± 1776 MPs/kg dry weight, respectively. The dominant microplastics shape was fragment with the fractions ranging from 69.86 to 82.41 %. In addition, the size distribution of MPs was mostly in the range of smaller than 50 µm and 1-150 µm (34.17 % and 45.62 % in mussels; 29.65 % and 43.20 % in surface seawater and 40.22 % and 39.40 % in beach sediment, respectively). Polyethylene terephthalate was the major polymer types 49.93-58.44 % of the detected MPs. The risk assessment results based on the polymer types indicated a warning level in several sites.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish reference values for the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and 2-minute walk test (2MWT) distances, to investigate the correlation between these 2 tests, and to establish prediction equations for these distances in healthy populations of Belgium and Vietnam. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The 6MWT and 2MWT were administered to a convenience sample of 239 Belgian and 303 Vietnamese participants between the ages of 18 and 80 years. RESULTS: The mean (standard deviation; SD) 2MWT distances were 215 (32.8) m for Belgian participants and 156 (25.5) m for Vietnamese participants. The mean (SD) 6MWT distances were 625 (90.7) m for Belgian participants and 449 (70.4) m for Vietnamese participants. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the 2 tests was 0.901 (p < 0.001) for Belgian participants and 0.871 (p < 0.001) for Vietnamese participants. Age and sex were the 2 most important predictors of walking distance, followed by body mass index for Belgium and height for Vietnam. The adjusted R² ranged from 0.31 to 0.49 across 4 predictive equations. CONCLUSION: These results can be used to determine the presence of walking performance deficits and to guide future studies. The 2MWT is suggested as a useful and convenient alternative to the 6MWT for assessing walking performance in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The study aims to evaluate the impacts of high-performance human resource management practices on firm performance through the mediating variable of innovation. The research model was developed and integrated from high-performance human resource management theory, innovation, and firm performance. The analysis results from 312 enterprises in industrial and service sectors indicated that high-performance human resource management practices had an indirect impact on firm performance and a direct effect on innovation. Furthermore, innovation plays a mediating role in the relationship between high-performance human resource management practices and firm performance. In addition, organizational size is also a characteristic variable that impacts firm performance. Finally, the study provides some theoretical and practical implications for managers to improve enterprises' human resource management systems.

RESUMO

The goal of this study was to identify the presence of microplastics on the beach near a refinery in the central coast of Vietnam. In this study, 11 sampling sites were selected within a length of 300 m of the beach. The results showed that microplastics were presented in all collected samples with an average concentration of 1582 ± 660 MPs/kg. Fibers were the predominant shape of microplastics found in the samples, which accounted for 57.11 %, while the rest were classified as fragments. The average size of microplastics varied greatly around 83.1 ± 74.3 µm with the vast majority having a size smaller than 50 µm (41.84 %). A total of 11 polymers of microplastics were detected from collected samples, Polyethylene Terephthalate was the main polymer with 46.43 %. The pollution load index of microplastics was 3.15 showing that refinery activities could expose microplastic to the environment.

RESUMO

A new picrotoxane terpenoid glycoside, austrobuxusin N (1), together with four known compounds, austrobuxusin A-D (2-5), were isolated from the leaves of the Australian endemic plant Austrobuxus swainii (Beuzev. & C.T. White) Airy Shaw. The chemical structure of 1 was elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, along with MS data. The sugar moiety in 1 was determined to be ß-D-glucose by acid hydrolysis and subsequent comparison of its specific rotation with that of standard. The relative configuration of the aglycone was assigned by ROESY NMR experiment and density functional theory (DFT) calculation of NMR data coupled with DP4 analysis. Cytotoxicity test revealed that compound 1 exhibited 71% inhibition against Caco-2 cell line at the concentration of 166 µM.[Formula: see text].

RESUMO

This study focuses on determination of quantity, shape, size and polymer types of microplastics in Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) cultured in Danang Bay, Vietnam. Visual verification and chemical identification of microplastics was carried out by µFT-IR spectra using Nicolet iN10 MX Infrared Imaging Microscope. The average abundance of microplastic in oysters was 1.88 ± 1.58 particles/g (wet weight) and 18.54 ± 10.08 particles/individual. The prevalent shape of microplastics included three main forms as fragment, fiber and bead corresponding to 73.71; 25.84 and 0.45%, respectively. Additionally, the size of microplastics was a range of 22.4-1318.8 µm, and the most common size was less than 100 µm, accounted for 77.30%. Fifteen polymer types were detected while Nylon was the most abundant polymer type with 50.56%. In this study, microplastics accumulation with their abundance and polymeric structures could be considered as reliable evidence for further studies on assessment of their potential risk to human health.

RESUMO

We examined the independent associations among abdominal adipose tissue (AT), liver fat, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), and lipid variables in 161 Caucasian men who had a wide variation in adiposity. We measured AT and liver fat by computed tomography and CRF by a maximal exercise test on a treadmill. Visceral AT remained a significant (P or= 0.05) correlate of any lipid variable after control for visceral AT and CRF. Furthermore, subdivision of subcutaneous AT into deep and superficial depots did not alter these observations. Visceral AT was the strongest correlate of liver fat and remained so after control for abdominal subcutaneous AT, CRF, and alcohol consumption (r = -0.34, P < 0.01). In contrast, abdominal subcutaneous AT and CRF were not significant (P > 0.10) correlates of liver fat after control for visceral AT. Visceral AT remained a significant (P < 0.01) correlate of TG, HDL-C, and TC/HDL-C independent of liver fat. However, liver fat was also a significant correlate (P

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of equivalent diet- or exercise-induced weight loss and exercise without weight loss on subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, and insulin sensitivity in obese women. RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURES: Fifty-four premenopausal women with abdominal obesity [waist circumference 110.1 +/- 5.8 cm (mean +/- SD)] (BMI 31.3 +/- 2.0 kg/m2) were randomly assigned to one of four groups: diet weight loss (n = 15), exercise weight loss (n = 17), exercise without weight loss (n = 12), and a weight-stable control group (n = 10). All groups underwent a 14-week intervention. RESULTS: Body weight decreased by approximately 6.5% within both weight loss groups and was unchanged in the exercise without weight loss and control groups. In comparison with controls, cardiorespiratory fitness improved within the exercise groups only (p < 0.01). Reduction in total, abdominal, and abdominal subcutaneous fat within the exercise weight loss group was greater (p < 0.001) than within all other groups. The reduction in total and abdominal fat within the diet weight loss and exercise without weight loss groups was greater than within controls (p < 0.001) but not different from each other (p > 0.05). Visceral fat decreased within all treatment groups (p < 0.008), and these changes were not different from each other. In comparison with the control group, insulin sensitivity improved within the exercise weight loss group alone (p < 0.001). DISCUSSION: Daily exercise without caloric restriction was associated with substantial reductions in total fat, abdominal fat, visceral fat, and insulin resistance in women. Exercise without weight loss was also associated with a substantial reduction in total and abdominal obesity.
