RESUMO

PURPOSE: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a prevalent condition, but long-term effective treatments are scarce. Differentiation of odontoblast-like cells is promising for inducing tertiary dentinogenesis and ensuring sustained therapeutic efficacy against DH. This study examined the effects and mechanism of action of mild heat stress (MHS) on the differentiation of odontoblast-like MDPC-23 cells. METHODS: We used a heating device to accurately control the temperature and duration, mimicking the thermal microenvironment of odontoblast-like cells. Using this device, the effects of MHS on cell viability and differentiation were examined. Cell viability was assessed using the MTT assay. The expression and nucleoplasmic ratio of the yes-associated protein (YAP) were examined by western blotting and immunofluorescence. The gene expression levels of heat shock proteins (HSPs) and dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP1) were measured using qPCR. Dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) expression was evaluated using immunofluorescence and immunoblotting. Verteporfin was used to inhibit YAP activity. RESULTS: Mild heat stress (MHS) enhanced the odontoblast differentiation of MDPC-23 cells while maintaining cell viability. MHS also increased YAP activity, as well as the levels of HSP25 mRNA, HSP70 mRNA, HSP90α mRNA, DMP1 mRNA, and DSPP protein. However, after YAP inhibition, both cell viability and the levels of HSP90α mRNA, DMP1 mRNA, and DSPP protein were reduced. CONCLUSION: YAP plays a crucial role in maintaining cell viability and promoting odontoblast differentiation of MDPC-23 cells under MHS. Consequently, MHS is a potential therapeutic strategy for DH, and boosting YAP activity could be beneficial for maintaining cell viability and promoting odontoblast differentiation.

RESUMO

Considering the high recrudescence and the long-lasting unhealed large-sized wound that affect the aesthetics and cause dysfunction after resection of maxillofacial malignant skin tumors, a groundbreaking strategy is urgently needed. Photothermal therapy (PTT), which has become a complementary treatment of tumors, however, is powerless in tissue defect regeneration. Therefore, a novel multifunctional sodium nitroprusside and Fe2+ ions loaded microneedles (SNP-Fe@MNs) platform was fabricated by accomplishing desirable NIR-responsive photothermal effect while burst releasing nitric oxide (NO) after the ultraviolet radiation for the ablation of melanoma. Moreover, the steady releasing of NO in the long term by the platform can exert its angiogenic effects via upregulating multiple related pathways to promote tissue regeneration. Thus, the therapeutic dilemma caused by postoperative maxillofacial skin malignancies could be conquered through promoting tumor cell apoptosis via synergistic PTT-gas therapy and subsequent regeneration process in one step. The bio-application of SNP-Fe@MNs could be further popularized based on its ideal bioactivity and appealing features as a strategy for synergistic therapy of other tumors occurred in skin.

RESUMO

Prior studies demonstrated an equivocal conclusion about the association between the level of retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4)/visfatin and periodontitis patients with obesity. The aim of our study (Prospero ID: CRD42023469058) was to systematically review the available articles linking the biofluid levels of RBP4/visfatin to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity. Clinical trials were screened in accordance with specific inclusion criteria from seven databases up to November 2023. A quality assessment was performed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and ROBINS-I tools for observational and interventional trials, respectively. The standard mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) related to the RBP4 level was recorded; the other indicators related to the visfatin level were measured via the mean difference (MD) with the corresponding 95% CI, and Fisher's Z transformation was measured to reveal the association using Review Manager 5.4. The current evidence was based on five observational studies and two interventional studies. All of them were included in the systematic review, and six of them were in the meta-analysis. Statistical analysis indicated that there was no significant difference in the circulating levels of RBP4 in the periodontitis patients with obesity or without, who were labeled as OP or NP, respectively (155 OP-107 NP: SMD = 1.38; 95% CI: -0.18-2.94, p = 0.08), as well as the periodontal healthy patients with a normal weight, who were labelled as NnP (116 OP-79 NnP: SMD = 6.76; 95% CI: -5.34-18.87, p = 0.27). Meanwhile, a significant higher level of serum visfatin was found in the OP patients than that of the NP (86 OP-45 NP: MD = 4.21; 95% CI: 2.65-5.77, p < 0.00001)/NnP (164 OP-88 NnP: MD = 13.02; 95% CI: 7.34-18.70, p < 0.00001) group. In addition, a positive association was observed between the serum RBP4 and body mass index/clinical attachment loss (CAL). And, then, there was a positive association between the serum visfatin and periodontal parameters, including the probing depth, CAL, and plaque index, as well as metabolic parameters, including the total cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Here, the circulating RBP4 level was not independently related to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity, while serum visfatin was significantly associated with periodontitis and obesity. Notably, the positive association between circulating RBP4/visfatin and the periodontal parameters/metabolic parameters firmly suggested that the higher severity of the obese or periodontal status was associated with an elevated level of serum visfatin or RBP4 in the OP group. With more rigorous longitudinal research, the exact causations between RBP4/visfatin and the patients affected by obesity and periodontitis could be disentangled. RBP4 and visfatin might be novel, enlightening prospective bio-indexes for the targeted treatment of comorbidities.

RESUMO

Soft-hard tissue interfaces in nature present a diversity of hierarchical transitions in composition and structure to address the challenge of stress concentrations that would otherwise arise at their interface. The translation of these into engineered materials holds promise for improved function of biomedical interfaces. Here, soft-hard tissue interfaces found in the body in health and disease, and the application of the diverse, functionally graded, and hierarchical structures that they present to bioinspired engineering materials are reviewed. A range of such bioinspired engineering materials and associated manufacturing technologies that are on the horizon in interfacial tissue engineering, hydrogel bioadhesion at the interfaces, and healthcare and medical devices are described.

RESUMO

Surface hydroxylation is the basis for material removal in chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) of monocrystalline silicon, diamond, and YAG crystals. Existing studies use experimental observations to investigate surface hydroxylation, but lack in-depth understanding of the hydroxylation process. In this paper, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, we analyze the surface hydroxylation process of YAG crystals in an aqueous solution using first-principle calculations. The presence of surface hydroxylation was verified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetric mass spectrometry (TGA-MS) detections. This study complements the existing research on the material removal mechanism of the CMP process of YAG crystals and provides theoretical support for the future improvement of the CMP technology.

RESUMO

Integrated pest management is focused on combining biological and chemical controls. There is evidence of a negative impact of neonicotinoids on biological control, however, sulfoxaflor (SFX), a novel insecticide, its impact on parasitoid natural predator remain limited. Binodoxys communis is an important parasitic natural enemy of Aphis gossypii, which may have direct and indirect toxicity from the insecticides and aphids. Understanding the potential threat of SFX to B. communis is therefore essential to integrated pest management and the conservation of parasitoids. Here, the effects of sublethal doses of SFX on B. communis larvae and adults are presented for the first time. Sublethal SFX doses had a significant negative effect on the survival rate, adult life span, duration of development, and rate of parasitism. Moreover, exposure to sublethal SFX doses also had adverse effects on the biological performance of the next generation of B. communis. Based on the transcriptome analysis, the expression of genes involved in fatty acid metabolism, glycerolipid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, peroxidase, lysosomes, glutathione metabolism, drug metabolism, and CYP450 were significantly shifted by sublethal SFX exposure. These results indicate that sublethal SFX doses might adversely affect the biological performance of B. communis by altering gene expression related to the function of detoxification systems and energy metabolism. In conclusion, considering the beneficial ecological services of provided by parasitoids and the negative effects of sulfoxaflor across a greater usage scale, we emphasize the importance to optimize pesticide applications in IPM packages, in order to ensure the safety and survival of natural pest parasitoids.

RESUMO

Assessing the potential effects of insecticides on beneficial biological control agents is key to facilitating the success of integrated pest management (IPM) approaches. Flupyradifurone (FPF) is a novel neonicotinoid insecticide that is replacing traditional neonicotinoids over a large geographical range to control pests. Binodoxys communis, is the dominant parasitic natural enemy of aphids. To date, no reports have addressed sublethal effects of FPF on B. communis. In this study, the lethal and sublethal effects of FPF on B. communis were investigated by indirect exposure to larvae and direct exposure to adults. Results showed that the sublethal LC10 and LC25 of FPF had negative effects on the biological parameters of B. communis, including significantly reducing survival rate, adult longevity, parasitism rate, and emergence rate, and significantly prolonging the developmental stages from egg to cocoons. In addition, we observed a transgenerational effect of FPF on the next generation (F1). RNA-Seq transcriptomic analysis identified a total of 1429 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that were significantly changed between FPF-treated and control groups. These DEGs are mainly enriched in metabolic pathways such as peroxisomes, glutamate metabolism, carbon metabolism, fatty acid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism. This report is the first comprehensive evaluation of how FPF effects B. communis, which adds to the methods of assessing pesticide exposure in parasitic natural enemies. We speculate that the significant changes in pathways, especially those related to lipid synthesis, may be the reason for weakened parasitoid biocontrol ability. The present study provides new evidence for the toxic effects and environmental residue risk of FPF.

RESUMO

Airway remodeling is one of the hallmarks of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is closely related to the dysregulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Smad3, an important transcriptional regulator responsible for transducing TGF-ß1 signals, is a promising target for EMT modulation. We found that ligustilide (Lig), a novel Smad3 covalent inhibitor, effectively inhibited airway remodeling in cigarette smoke (CS) combined with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced COPD mice. Oral administration of an alkynyl-modified Lig probe was used to capture and trace target proteins in mouse lung tissue, revealing Smad3 in airway epithelium as a key target of Lig. Protein mass spectrometry and Smad3 mutation analysis via in-gel imaging indicated that the epoxidized metabolite of Lig covalently binds to the MH2 domain of Smad3 at Cys331/337. This irreversible bonding destroys the interaction of Smad3-SARA, prevents Smad3 phosphorylation activation, and subsequently suppresses the nuclear transfer of p-Smad3, the EMT process, and collagen deposition in TGF-ß1-stimulated BEAS-2B cells and COPD mice. These findings provide experimental support that Lig attenuates COPD by repressing airway remodeling which is attributed to its suppression on the activation of EMT process in the airway epithelium via targeting Smad3 and inhibiting the recruitment of the Smad3-SARA heterodimer in the TGF-ß1/Smad3 pathway.

RESUMO

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) plays a role in regulating pulmonary fibrosis (PF). While several TRPV4 antagonists including magnolol (MAG), have been discovered, the mechanism of action is not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the effect of MAG on alleviating fibrosis in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) based on TRPV4, and to further analyze its mechanism of action on TRPV4. COPD was induced using cigarette smoke and LPS. The therapeutic effect of MAG on COPD-induced fibrosis was evaluated. TRPV4 was identified as the main target protein of MAG using target protein capture with MAG probe and drug affinity response target stability assay. The binding sites of MAG at TRPV4 were analyzed using molecular docking and small molecule interaction with TRPV4-ankyrin repeat domain (ARD). The effects of MAG on TRPV4 membrane distribution and channel activity were analyzed by co-immunoprecipitation, fluorescence co-localization, and living cell assay of calcium levels. By targeting TRPV4-ARD, MAG disrupted the binding between phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase γ and TRPV4, leading to hampered membrane distribution on fibroblasts. Additionally, MAG competitively impaired ATP binding to TRPV4-ARD, inhibiting TRPV4 channel opening activity. MAG effectively blocked the fibrotic process caused by mechanical or inflammatory signals, thus alleviating PF in COPD. Targeting TRPV4-ARD presents a novel treatment strategy for PF in COPD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on inflammatory-related cytokines/adipocytokines in periodontitis patients with or without obesity. METHODS: We followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement and registered the study (CRD42022375331) in the Prospective International Register of Systematic Reviews. We screened randomized-controlled trials and controlled clinical trials from six databases up to December 2022. Quality assessment was performed with RoB-2 and ROBINS-I tools for randomized trials and non-randomized trials, respectively. Meta-analysis was carried out using a random-effect model. RESULTS: We included seventeen references in the systematic analysis, and sixteen in the meta-analysis. Baseline results of pro-inflammatory biomarkers, including serum interleukin (IL)-6, serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a, serum C-reactive protein (CRP)/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin, were higher in obesity subjects than in normal weight subjects. The effect of NSPT with respect to levels of cytokines/adipocytokines, including IL-6, TNF-a, CRP/hs-CRP, resistin, adiponectin, leptin and retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), were then analyzed in the systematic and meta-analysis. After three months of NSPT, serum (MD = -0.54, CI = -0.62 - -0.46), and GCF (MD = -2.70, CI = -4.77 - -0.63) levels of IL-6, along with the serum RBP4 (MD = -0.39, CI = -0.68-0.10) decreased in periodontitis individuals with obesity. NSPT also improved GCF adiponectin levels after three months (MD = 2.37, CI = 0.29 - 4.45) in periodontitis individuals without obesity. CONCLUSIONS: Obese status altered the baseline levels of cytokines/adipocytokines (serum IL-6, serum and GCF TNF-a, serum CRP/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin). Then NSPT can shift the levels of specific pro-inflammatory mediators and anti-inflammatory mediators in biological fluids, both in obesity and non-obesity individuals. NSPT can reduce serum and GCF IL-6 levels together with serum RBP4 level in individuals with obesity after 3 months, besides, there is no sufficient evidence to prove that obese patients have a statistically significant decrease in the levels of other cytokines compared to patients with normal weight. NSPT can also increase GCF adiponectin level in normal weight individuals after 3 months. Our findings imply the potential ideal follow-up intervals and sensitive biomarkers for clinical bioanalysis in personalized decision-making of effect of NSPT due to patients' BMI value.

RESUMO

The lady beetle Propylea japonica is a dominant natural predator of insect pests in farmland ecosystems and an important non-target indicator insect for the environmental safety assessment of GM crops. The commercial cultivation of GM crops may cause P. japonica to frequently be exposed to the Bt protein environment. In this study, the biological characteristics, enzyme activity, and expression levels of detoxification and metabolism in P. japonica were studied after Cry1B protein treatment. No significant differences were observed in developmental duration, emergence rate, or body weight at different ages after feeding larvae 0.5 mg/mL of Cry1B protein compared with the control. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in the activities of glutathione S-transferase (GST), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) after feeding 0.25 mg/mL and 0.5 mg/mL Cry1B protein. However, when the concentration of Cry1B protein increased to 1.0 mg/mL, the activities of the GST, CAT, and POD increased significantly. Compared with the control group, there were no significant differences in the expression levels of most detoxification metabolism related genes; only a few genes had changed expression levels at the individual concentrations (CYP345B1, CYP4Q2, CYP9F2, GST, and microsomal GST). Overall, these results suggest that Cry1B protein has little or no effect on the biological characteristics of P. japonica. Genes related to enzyme activity and detoxification are differentially expressed at high concentration stimulation. Therefore, this research suggests that the potential risks of Cry1B for the predator P. japonica are negligible.

RESUMO

The large-scale commercial cultivation of genetically modified (GM) cotton has brought significant economic and environmental benefits. However, GM crops must undergo strict environmental monitoring and long-term observation. An important natural enemy insect in cotton fields, Geocoris pallidipennis, can ingest the Bt protein expressed in GM cotton by feeding on herbivorous insects that feed on the cotton. However, the potential risk of GM cotton to G. pallidipennis is still unclear. We here evaluated the effects of Bt cotton expressing the Cry1Ac/1Ab protein on nymphs and adults G. pallidipennis. Cry1Ac protein was detected in the midgut of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, after it ingested Bt cotton, and in the midgut of G. pallidipennis nymphs and adults preying on Bt-fed H. armigera. However, the survival rate, growth, development, and fecundity of G. pallidipennis were not adversely affected. Furthermore, G. pallidipennis cadherins, and those genes related to detoxification, antioxidant activity, nutrient utilization, and immune function were not differentially expressed in response to Cry1Ac exposure. Finally, we showed that Cry1Ac could not bind to brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) proteins in G. pallidipennis nymphs or adults. In summary, these results indicate that the potential negative effect of transgenic Cry1Ac/1Ab cotton on the insect redator G. pallidipennis is negligible.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In recent years, gene knockdown technology using double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) has been widely used as an environment-friendly pest control strategy, but its instability and limited cellular uptake have limited its overall effect. Studies have shown that the efficiency of single dsRNA can be improved by using various nanomaterials. However, the effect of stacked-dsRNA wrapped by nanomaterial on pests remains unclear. In the present study, both CYP15C1 and C-factor genes were cloned from the midgut of C. suppressalis, and the transcript of C-factor is most highly expressed in heads. Feeding a dsCYP15C1 or dsC-factor - nanomaterial mixture can downregulate the gene expression and significantly increase larval mortality. More importantly, feeding the stacked-dsRNA wrapped by nanomaterial can significantly increase the mortality of C. suppressalis, compared with feeding dsCYP15C1 or dsC-factor - nanomaterial mixture alone. These results showed that CYP15C1 and C-factor could be potential targets for an effective management of C. suppressalis, and we developed a nanoparticle-facilitated stacked-dsRNA strategy in the control of C. suppresallis. Our research provides a theoretical basis for gene function analysis and field pest control, and will promote the application of RNAi technology in the stacked style of pest control.

RESUMO

In insects, cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s or CYPs) play an important role in the detoxification and metabolism of exogenous plant allelochemicals. In this study, a P450 gene CYP6AB12 was identified and characterized from Spodoptera litura. The cDNA contains an open reading frame (ORF) encoding 511 amino acid residues. CYP6AB12 was expressed at different ages of S. litura, with the highest levels found in the third and fourth instar larvae. Its highest expression was found in the midgut and fat body of fourth instar larvae fed with gossypol. Moreover, these expression levels were substantially increased compared with those from larvae fed with control diet. Gene silencing was then conducted by smearing dsRNA mixed with nanomaterials onto the cuticle. CYP6AB12 expression was significantly decreased in the midgut and fat body, and the net weight increase was substantially lower than that of the control group, indicating that the treatment group had more sensitivity to gossypol than the control. These results reveal that CYP6AB12 plays an important role in the detoxification and metabolism of gossypol, thus further confirming that P450s have a broad ability to detoxify and metabolize plant allelochemicals. It provides an important molecular basis for the exploration of detoxification metabolism and pest control of S. litura.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Mini clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) and objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) are widely acknowledged as effective measures of resident standardization training (RST) in European and American countries. However, in China primary mini-CEX and OSCE forms are mainly limited in undergraduate clinical examination. Little knowledge is available regarding the validity and right way of mini-CEX /OSCE evaluation system in advanced dental clinical education so far. This study aimed to explore whether combination of mini-CEX and OSCE represents a global-dimension assessment for postgraduate clinical competence in RST. METHODS: Postgraduates who received RST from June 2017 to June 2019 were selected and evaluated by modified mini-CEX/OSCE scales. Each student received evaluations at least twice in the initial and final stages of training (tested every 4 months). A questionnaire was conducted to investigate the satisfaction with the arrangement of RST. RESULTS: Mini-CEX/OSCE test results indicated that postgraduates have significantly improved their comprehensive competence in RST projects in the department of prosthodontics (P < 0.05). Compared to other master of Stomatology students, postgraduates taking up prosthodontics master's degree have made more progresses through a training period of up to 1 year and four sessions of face-to-face feedback tutoring (P < 0.05). Survey results revealed high level of satisfaction on clinical practice evaluation. CONCLUSION: Modified mini-CEX/OSCE combined evaluation system is an effective and reliable assessment tool for clinical comprehensive ability in the RST of professional graduates and can fully highlight their respective advantages on the improvement of students' clinical competency, especially after several rounds of assessments.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Significant displacement of the mandibular canal (MC), which occurs frequently in extensive mandibular cystic lesion cases, may raise the risk of inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle injury in surgery. The aim of the present study was to measure the association between positional changes of the MC and the direction (in the coronal plane) of bone expansion of cystic lesions in the mandible. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of patients who had undergone decompression and enucleation surgery from January 2014 to December 2018. Based on coronal planes of cone-beam computerized tomography, the centroids of the expanded mandibles were calculated and considered markers for evaluation of the directions of bone expansion. In addition, the changes in the position of the MC before decompression and enucleation were measured and compared. A Cartesian coordinate system was introduced in this study to illustrate the relationship of positional changes between the displacement of the MC and expansion of the mandible in a straightforward manner. Statistical analysis was performed using the paired t test, unpaired t test, one-way analysis of variance or linear regression as appropriate. RESULTS: Thirty-six patients with an average age of 29.8 years (14 men, 22 women) who received treatment of decompression and enucleation for mandibular cystic lesions were included in this study. The MCs were displaced in the direction toward the lower edge of the mandible and opposite to the direction of mandibular expansion. In addition, the MCs were relocated close to their original location by 1.67 ± 1.45 mm (mean ± standard deviation) approximately 1 year after decompression, accounting for 22.66% of the total displacement. CONCLUSIONS: In mandibular cystic lesion cases, the MCs tend to displace opposite to the direction of mandibular expansion and relocate less after decompression.

RESUMO

The widespread commercialization of genetically modified (GM) cotton makes it important to assess the potential impact of this recombinant crop on non-target organisms. As important natural enemies of cotton field predators, green lacewing Chrysoperla sinica larvae are exposed to Bt insecticidal proteins expressed by GM cotton by feeding on herbivorous pests, and adults are directly exposed to Bt proteins by cotton pollen consumption. However, potential impacts of transgenic Bt cotton on C. sinica remain unclear. In this study, we evaluated the effects of two transgenic cotton varieties, CCRI41 and CCRI45, which express Cry1Ac (Bt toxin) and CpTI (Cowpea Trypsin Inhibitor), on C. sinica larvae and adults. After being fed with cotton aphids Aphis gossypii reared on transgenic cotton, the survival rate, developmental duration, pupation rate, and emergence rate of larvae were not adversely affected. After being fed two types of transgenic cotton pollen, the 7-day weight of adults and the preoviposition period and the cumulative oviposition of females were not significantly different from control specimen. Taken together, these results indicate that the potential risks of the two tested GM cotton varieties for the predator C. sinica are negligible. CAPSULE: Our study indicated that GM cotton varieties CCRI41 and CCRI45 have no adverse effects on insect predator C. sinica.

RESUMO

Network Meta-analysis was used to compare the efficacy and safety of Chinese patent medicines in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris. PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and other databases were retrieved by computers from the establishment of the databases to June 2020. Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of unstable angina pectoris were collected. Two investigators independently screened out the literatures, and extracted data according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The quality of the included RCTs was evaluated according to the bias risk assessment tool recommended by the Cochrane System Reviewer Manual, and the Stata 13.0 software was used for data analysis and mapping. Through screening, 28 eligible studies were finally included, with the sample size of 2 885 cases, involving 8 Chinese patent medicines. The results of the network Meta-analysis showed that in terms of total effective rate for angina symptom improvement, the order was as follows: Shenshao Capsules > Naoxintong Capsules > Ginkgo Ketone Ester Dripping Pills > Compound Danshen Dripping Pills > Ginkgo Leaf Tablets > Shexiang Baoxin Pills > Tongxinluo Capsules > Yindan Xinnaotong Soft Capsules; in terms of total effective rate for ECG curative effect, the order was as follows: Ginkgo Ketone Ester Dripping Pills>Compound Danshen Dripping Pills > Tongxinluo Capsules > Shenshao Capsules > Shexiang Baoxin Pills > Yindan Xinnaotong Soft Capsules; in terms of hypersensitivity-C-reactive protein curative effect, the order was as follows: Tongxinluo Capsules > Shenshao Capsules > Ginkgo Leaf Tablets>Compound Danshen Dropping Pills> Shexiang Baoxin Pills > Naoxintong Capsules > Yindan Xinnaotong Soft Capsules > Ginkgo Ketone Ester Dropping Pills. Chinese patent medicine combined with conventional therapy can improve the clinical efficacy of unstable angina pectoris. Due to the differences in the quantity and quality of the included studies, the order results of Chinese patent medicines need to be further verified.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a common congenital cardiac abnormality in premature infants. In low-birth-weight infants weighing less than 2500 g, if the PDA continues to open, abnormal circulation hemodynamics and pulmonary edema may occur. This study aimed to investigate the role of lung ultrasound score in the assessment of pulmonary edema in low-weight neonates with PDA. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two hundred and twenty-one neonates with low birth weight were selected as the subjects, children with PDA as the observation group, and children with closed ductus arteriosus as the control group. On the fourth postnatal day, lung ultrasound examination and 6-segment lung ultrasound scoring were performed. RESULTS All 221 infants (94 in the observation group, 127 controls) underwent ultrasound examinations of the lungs. Intergroup differences in gestational age, birth weight, length of hospital stay, and left ventricular ejection fraction were not statistically significant. There was a significant difference in lung ultrasound score (t=0.005, P=0.000) and aortic root ratio to left atrial (t=0.085, P=0.000), which was negatively correlated with gestational age (r=-0.235, P=0.000) and positively correlated with PDA diameter (r=0.261, P=0.011). CONCLUSIONS Low-birth-weight children often have PDA. Its continued opening changes the circulation hemodynamics in children. Lung ultrasound score can semi-quantitatively evaluate the extravascular lung water content, identifying the need to intervene and follow up the hemodynamic significance of PDA over time.

RESUMO

The lipocalins genes have been assigned for involving in the responses of organisms to various stress factors. The function of lipocalins under PCB18 stress was addressed by pathway complementation in the Oryza sativa L. OsTIL-silenced mutant. The growth of wild type (WT) and OsTIL-silenced mutant (MT) callus were suppressed by PCB18, and MT varieties were inhibited more seriously than WT varieties. Meanwhile, only WT varieties showed "Hormesis" effect. Compared with WT (3 day > 90.0%, 6 day ≤45.5%), MT varieties kept high removing efficiency by HPLC analysis. Varied gene transcription after OsTIL silencing was demonstrated between two varieties, especially obvious under PCB stress. Silenced OsTIL induced more protective gene transcriptions by qPCR analysis, OsVDE at 3 day, OsCHL, OsZEP1, OsZEP2 and OsUN at 6 day and OsZEP2 at 9 day. PCB18 stress further irritated these genes transcription in MT varieties. The defense stagy in WT varieties was that the transcriptions of lipocalins were inhibited to reduce PCB18 accumulation and toxicity. OsTIL could effectively limit PCB18 accumulation and toxicity. After TIL lacking, OsCHL, OsZEP1, OsZEP2 and OsUN in mutant were strongly evoked to against PCB stress. Remarkably, OsUN and OsZEP2 gene expressions were responded to PCB18 stress in both two varieties.
