RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the factors associated with the knowledge of patients and caregivers about Clean Intermittent Urethral Catheterization in the literature which hinder or facilitate the procedure. METHOD: An integrative review of the literature conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, Web of Science, SCOPUS and LILACS databases. RESULTS: 13 primary studies were included in the sample after the peer review. A synthesis of knowledge was performed in two categories: Factors associated with the knowledge of patients and caregivers which hinder the procedure and Factors associated with the knowledge of patients and caregivers which facilitate the procedure. Factors that hinder and facilitate the procedure respectively related to the need of information and negative feelings, use of easy-to-understand language, and application of information leaflets, among others. CONCLUSION: There is a shortage of published articles on the subject, and those which were identified had a low level of evidence, therefore requiring greater commitment and effort on the part of health professionals and researchers to use more robust designs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Identifying the types of non-psychotic mental disorders in adult women who suffered intimate partner violence in the literature. METHOD: An integrative review carried out in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, LILACS, Web of Science and SCOPUS databases. RESULTS: We selected 19 articles published in international journals in English, with a predominance of cross-sectional study studies (78.9%). The most common types of non-psychotic mental disorders were: depression (73.7%) and post-traumatic stress disorder (52.6%). It was observed that 78.9% of the articles presented a 2C level of evidence. CONCLUSION: Studies have shown that adult women who are victims of intimate partner violence mostly suffer from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as other morbidities; a fact that highlights how devastating violence by an intimate partner can impact on the mental health of those who experience it.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the direct cost of dressings in pressure ulcer treatment. METHOD: This was a descriptive observational study conducted at an intensive care unit in the Northeast region of Brazil, between November and December 2015. Data were gathered using the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing and a form to characterize and assess costs. Values in Brazilian reais (BRL) were converted into U.S. dollars at the exchange rate of USD 0.26/BRL. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 15 patients with at least stage 2 ulcers. There was a significant reduction in costs with dressing materials between the initial and final assessments (p=0.002), with a mean of USD 11.9 (±7.4). The most common topical treatments used were essential fatty acids and papain. CONCLUSION: Cost reduction was proportional to the stage of pressure ulcer. The role of nurses in creating evidence-based care plans is crucial to improve care management.

OBJECTIVE: to analyze the effects of educational technologies in the prevention and treatment of diabetic ulcers. METHOD: a systematic review conducted in seven databases, a bibliographic index, an electronic library and the Gray Literature. The sample consisted of 11 randomized controlled clinical trials. The synthesis of the results was descriptive and through meta-analysis. RESULTS: the predominant educational technologies were training sessions and verbal guidelines, with soft-hard technologies standing out. When compared to usual care, the educational technologies presented a protective factor to prevent the incidence of diabetic ulcers (RR=0.40; 95% CI=0.18-0.90; p=0.03) and the certainty of the evidence assessment was low. The educational technologies also had a protective factor to prevent the incidence of lower limb amputations (RR=0.53; 95% CI=0.31-0.90; p=0.02) and certainty of the evidence was very low. CONCLUSION: soft-hard educational technologies such as structured verbal guidelines, educational games, lectures, theoretical-practical training sessions, educational videos, folders, serial albums and playful drawings, and hard technologies such as therapeutic footwear, insoles, infrared digital thermometer, foot care kits, Telemedicine app and mobile phone use, were effective for the prevention and treatment of diabetic ulcers, although more robust studies are required.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the reasons correlated with the omission of nursing care in a university hospital. METHOD: Analytical cross-sectional design, developed in a university hospital in Northeast Brazil, from January to February 2020. The study population consisted of nurses and nursing technicians who worked in direct patient care. The Brazilian version of the Missed Nursing Care Survey was applied in a convenience sample consisting of 227 participants (79 nurses and 148 nursing technicians). Univariate and bivariate statistics were calculated in the software Statistical Package for Social Science, version 26.0. RESULTS: The most omitted nursing care was walking three times a day or as prescribed (70.9%). The most prevalent reason was an unexpected increase in the volume and/or severity of patients in the unit (93.0%). Positive, albeit weak, correlations were found between overall care omission, as well as omissions by priority level, and reasons for omission given by nurses and nursing technicians (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The study showed that the omission of nursing care covered all five dimensions of the instrument, mainly correlated with labor and material resources.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze factors associated with diabetic foot risk in patients with diabetes mellitus assisted in Primary Care. METHOD: Observational, analytic, and transversal study took place in Teresina, Piauí, with diabetic patients who are assisted in Primary Care. Data collection took place through interviews, foot clinical exams, and medical record analysis. We used the Mann-Whitney, Pearson's Chi-square and multiple logistic regression statistics tests to analyze the data. The association power among categorical variables was measured by Odds Ratio . RESULTS: 322 patients participated. Marital status with a partner presented a protection factor (p = 0.007). Risk factors for the development of the diabetic foot are: arterial hypertension (p = 0.045), obesity (p = 0.011), smoking (p = 0.027), not being submitted to follow ups (p = 0.046), inadequate control of capillary blood glucose (p < 0.001), indisposition to the care of the foot (p=0.014), and foot self-exam less frequently (p = 0.040). CONCLUSION: Sociodemographic, clinical, and self-care aspects interfere in diabetic foot development, highlighting the necessity of effective follow up tracking and educational interventions for patients with diabetes mellitus in Primary Care.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the reasons correlated with the omission of nursing care in a university hospital.

Foram calculadas estatísticas uni e bivariadas no software Statistical Package for social Science, versão 26.0.

Abstract Objective To analyze the clinical aspects and factors associated with suicidal behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Cross-sectional analytical study performed with care records of 130 patients who sought care in the psychiatric emergency department after suicidal ideation, planning or attempt. A form was used for sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic characterization, and for identification of care needs and associated factors. Data analysis consisted of Fischer's exact test, Pearson's chi-square test and Poisson's regression, considering a significance level of 5%. Results Suicidal behavior was expressed by suicide attempt, ideation and planning. It was predominant in the female sex, young adults, unemployed, with low family income, and in patients with a history of mental disorder, psychiatric hospitalization, previous attempts and of therapeutic abandonment. The main psychic alterations involved anxiety, depression, feelings of hopelessness, audiovisual hallucinations and persecutory delusions. The consumption of psychoactive substances increased by up to 13.8 times the risk for suicide attempt, while situational crises increased suicidal ideation by up to 10.6 times. The loss of income and previous hospitalization were associated with manifestation of the behavior. Evidence of care involved drug interventions, surveillance measures, and hospital admission. Conclusion During the COVID-19 pandemic, suicidal behavior was associated with a greater predisposition to consume psychoactive substances, situational crises and loss of income. The need for public policies aimed at the identification, prevention and adequate management of risk states stands out.
