PURPOSE: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) often alters sleep quality. Dupilumab emerged as an innovative and effective therapy for refractory/recurrent severe CRSwNP. The aim of this observational retrospective study was to evaluate the sleep quality in patients with CRSwNP who underwent treatment with dupilumab. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-five patients treated with dupilumab for CRSwNP were enrolled. Clinical parameters (age, sex, comorbidities, Nasal Polyp Score - NPS, Asthma Control Test - ACT), nasal cytology, quality of life (Sino Nasal Outcome Test 22 - SNOT-22), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index - PSQI, Epworth Sleepiness Scale - ESS), and risk of sleep apnea (STOP-BANG) were recorded before treatment (T0), and after 3 (T1), 6 (T2), and 12 months (T3). RESULTS: NPS, ACT and SNOT-22 total score improved during treatment (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, all sleep parameters evaluated with SNOT-22, ESS and PSQI improved over time (p < 0.001), expect for PSQI Use of sleeping medications. Indeed, sleep drugs are rarely used before and during the treatment. The global sleep quality was classified as poor in 88.9 % of cases at T0 and decreased to 5.7 % at T3. A high risk of sleep apnea was revealed by the STOP-BANG in 68.9 % of cases at T0 and 2.8 % of patient at T3 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Dupilumab improves the sleep quality and reduce the risk of sleep apnea in patients with severe CRSwNP. Its favorable effect occurs within 3 months and is maintained during the treatment.

PURPOSE: Dupilumab represents an innovative and effective therapy for refractory/recurrent severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Intranasal corticosteroids should be used during treatment with biological agents. However, adherence to nasal therapy may not be complete. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of intranasal corticosteroids in patients with CRSwNP who underwent treatment with dupilumab. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-two patients treated with dupilumab for CRSwNP were enrolled. Clinical parameters (age, sex, comorbidities, blood eosinophils, Nasal Polyp Score - NPS, Visual Analogue Scale - VAS - for smell loss, Asthma Control Test - ACT), quality of life (Sino Nasal Outcome Test 22 - SNOT-22 questionnaire), nasal cytology, and adherence to regular administration of intranasal corticosteroids were recorded before treatment (T0), and after 3 (T1), 6 (T2), and 12 months (T3). RESULTS: NPS, VAS for smell, ACT and SNOT-22 total score and subscores improved during treatment (p < 0.05). Blood eosinophils reached a peak at T1-T2 and then decreased toward baseline at T3. Adherence to regular treatment with intranasal steroids was 61.5 %. No statistically significant differences in all the clinical outcomes were observed between patients who regularly used intranasal steroids and other subjects (p > 0.05). Nasal cytology showed a decrease of eosinophils and an increase of neutrophils during treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Dupilumab is still effective in patients who are using topical nasal steroids with variable adherence (real world settings).

The phenomenon of migration is often related to violence and exploitation. Data collection in conflict-affected countries is hard and complicated by the lack of literature, especially on the health of migrant female victims of violence. The aim of our study has been to realise a clinical and forensic evaluation on African female migrant's global health through their admissions to the Rape Centre "Soccorso Violenza Sessuale" at Sant'Anna Hospital in Turin. In our sample, we considered several aspects such as place where the violence occurred, number and the identity of the perpetrators, use of physical restraint instruments and/or substances, kidnapping, prostitution under duress, abuses, pregnancies and outcomes, injuries and complained symptoms, female genital mutilation, and sexually transmitted diseases. The sample consisted of 143 women, of which 136 were victims of violence. In 72.8% of the episodes, the perpetrator of violence was an unknown subject. Of the women, 58.8% reported being abused in Libya, 92.6% were victims of sexual violence, and 30.2% became pregnant after sexual abuse. The physical examination of the sample showed that 34.6% of women had at least a scar and that 12.5% reported a female genital mutilation. This is the first database on health of African female migrants in Turin area collecting data on migration, violence, and physical and psychological effects of abuse.

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal cancer represents a challenging disease because of its difficult diagnosis and different histology. Despite a multidisciplinary evaluation and treatments, a poor prognosis is still present. We retrospectively analyzed patients with sinonasal cancer treated in our institution, paying attention to histology and real-life prognosis. METHODS: A total of 51 consecutive patients were included in the study. Clinical features were described. Overall, disease-free, and disease-specific survival (OS, DFS, DSS) according to histology were calculated. Kaplan-Meyer estimator curves were reported. RESULTS: The most prevalent primary tumor was squamous cell carcinoma, followed by adenocarcinoma. Global 2- and 5-year OS was 68.80% and 54.58%, respectively. Global 2- and 5-year DFS was 48.53% and 29.56%, while global 2- and 5-year DSS was 82.86% and 74.57%, respectively. The median OS was 74 and 43 months for early- and late-stage cancer, respectively. The Cox multivariate regression analysis did not reveal any statistically significant effects of age, stage, or histology on survival outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: The diagnosis is often late and the prognosis poor. An appropriate treatment, which is always quite multimodal, allows us to achieve a global 5-year OS slightly higher than 50%. An adequate diagnosis to increase the percentage of early-stage tumors is mandatory to improve prognosis.

Missing transverse momentum is a crucial observable for physics at hadron colliders, being the only constraint on the kinematics of "invisible" objects such as neutrinos and hypothetical dark matter particles. Computing missing transverse momentum at the highest possible precision, particularly in experiments at the energy frontier, can be a challenging procedure due to ambiguities in the distribution of energy and momentum between many reconstructed particle candidates. This paper describes a novel solution for efficiently encoding information required for the computation of missing transverse momentum given arbitrary selection criteria for the constituent reconstructed objects. Pileup suppression using information from both the calorimeter and the inner detector is an integral component of the reconstruction procedure. Energy calibration and systematic variations are naturally supported. Following this strategy, the ATLAS Collaboration has been able to optimise the use of missing transverse momentum in diverse analyses throughout Runs 2 and 3 of the Large Hadron Collider and for future analyses.

Nasal cytology is a non-invasive, low-cost exam that can help physicians in the diagnosis of allergic and nonallergic rhinitis, discriminating between different nasal disorders. The aim of this review is to summarize and analyze the current knowledge about nasal cytological examination in head and neck cancer, with a specific focus on the effects of different treatments. Indeed, nasal cytology is important to choose the best treatment for nasal complaints in each patient. A review of the English literature (PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane) was performed (5404 records screened). The inclusion criteria were clinical trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, case series, and case reports regarding nasal cytology in head and neck cancer treatment. Exclusion criteria were as follows: non-human studies, non-English literature, non-cytological evaluations. Two independent reviewers, working separately, extracted the data from all the eligible studies, which were subsequently cross-checked. Five studies were included in qualitative synthesis: three assessed mucosal disorders after radiation therapy and two after total laryngectomy. Radiotherapy can determine mucous or squamous cell metaplasia and neutrophil inflammation. Laryngectomees show hyperplasia of the basal zone cells and mucous cell metaplasia, and they do not develop inflammatory changes. The main limitation of this review is the low number and heterogeneity of studies present in the literature. In conclusion, nasal cytology is useful and allows for identifying mucosal disorders of the nasal cavities after surgery and/or radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. This can help physicians to better treat the nasal complaints of such patients.

Covid-19 has been affecting people's lives on a social, economic, emotional, and sexual level. This study aims to investigate any change in how couples formed during the pandemic got to know the partner and experienced sexuality, including factors that could have influenced those changes in comparison with a pre-pandemic period. Particularly, focus groups (N = 26 women) were conducted and an online questionnaire (N = 120; 41 men and 79 women) was administered. Given the exploratory qualitative nature of the present research, no specific hypothesis was tested. Most of the sample reported an increase in sexual desire, sexual frequency, and quality of intercourse, perceiving an early development of intimacy. The results highlight the lack of stress and fear of contagion. The intense state of euphoria, typical of the initial phase of the relationship, has perhaps allowed the couples to overcome the obstacles due to the restrictions. This study underlines the role of being in love in the survival of the species, as it allows for the creation of steady relationships even in moments of danger.

Procambarus clarkii is an invasive alien species spreading worldwide. It is therefore mandatory to find new methods to manage this species since traditional techniques are not sufficient for this purpose. The present study investigates gonad damage induced by different doses of ionising irradiation: 20, 40 and 60 Gy. Testis were analysed after 10 and 30 days by means of light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Control unirradiated testes present an acinar structure with a well-defined germinative cells maturation from the distal proliferative zone to the proximal stalk of the lobes whilst, in irradiated testes, induced apoptosis of germinative and accessory cells and a high level of vacuolisation inside the acini were identified, progressively increasing in accordance to Gy dosage and time after exposure. We determined the dose of 40 Gy as the best compromise: it causes an extensive damage to germinative tissues without affecting crayfish vitality, differing from 60 Gy. From an applicative point of view, this dose reduces the efforts, in terms of cost and time, for the application of SMRT.
