RESUMO

Renewable ("green") hydrogen production through direct photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a potential key contributor to the sustainable energy mix of the future. We investigate the potential of indium phosphide (InP) as a reference material among III-V semiconductors for PEC and photovoltaic (PV) applications. The p(2 × 2)/c(4 × 2)-reconstructed phosphorus-terminated p-doped InP(100) (P-rich p-InP) surface is the focus of our investigation. We employ time-resolved two-photon photoemission (tr-2PPE) spectroscopy to study electronic states near the band gap with an emphasis on normally unoccupied conduction band states that are inaccessible through conventional single-photon emission methods. The study shows the complexity of the p-InP electronic band structure and reveals the presence of at least nine distinct states between the valence band edge and vacuum energy, including a valence band state, a surface defect state pinning the Fermi level, six unoccupied surface resonances within the conduction band, as well as a cluster of states about 1.6 eV above the CBM, identified as a bulk-to-surface transition. Furthermore, we determined the decay constants of five of the conduction band states, enabling us to track electron relaxation through the bulk and surface conduction bands. This comprehensive understanding of the electron dynamics in p-InP(100) lays the foundation for further exploration and surface engineering to enhance the properties and applications of p-InP-based III-V-compounds for, e.g., efficient and cost-effective PEC hydrogen production and highly efficient PV cells.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness and safety of oral and injectable systemic treatments, such as methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclosporine, tofacitinib, baricitinib, corticosteroids, statins, zinc, apremilast, etc., for treating vitiligo lesions. METHOD: Databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were meticulously searched for studies spanning from 2010 to August 2023, focusing on systemic oral and injectable therapies for vitiligo, using comprehensive keywords and search syntaxes tailored to each database. Key data extracted included study design, treatment efficacy, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and safety profiles. RESULTS: In a total of 42 included studies, oral mini-pulse corticosteroid therapy (OMP) was the subject of six studies (14.2%). Minocycline was the focus of five studies (11.9%), while methotrexate, apremilast, and tofacitinib each were examined in four studies (9.5%). Antioxidants and Afamelanotide were the subjects of three studies each (7.1%). Cyclosporine, simvastatin, oral zinc, oral corticosteroids (excluding OMP) and injections, and baricitinib were each explored in two studies (4.8%). Azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, and Alefacept were the subjects of one study each (2.4%). CONCLUSION: Systemic treatments for vitiligo have been successful in controlling lesions without notable side effects. OMP, Methotrexate, Azathioprine, Cyclosporine, Mycophenolate mofetil, Simvastatin, Apremilast, Minocycline, Afamelanotide, Tofacitinib, Baricitinib, Antioxidants, and oral/injectable corticosteroids are effective treatment methods. However, oral zinc and alefacept did not show effectiveness.

CDX1 and CDX2 are homeobox-type transcription factors that are potential biomarkers and are associated with prognostic significance in intestinal-type gastric cancer early disease before lymph node metastasis is associated with better prognosis. In addition, the genes IDH 1 and IDH 2 previously known to be involved in brain cancer are implicated in cancer-related molecular signatures as a result new targeted personalized therapies may be possible. Our retrospective study determined the correlation between CDX markers and clinicopathologic data including survival in patients with gastric cancer. This study included studies from 1997 to December 2022 a meta-analysis to provide odds ratios (ORs) and relative risks (RRs). We discussed in detail the impact of IDH 1/2 on the prognosis of gastric cancer outcomes and potential therapeutic strategies. Our meta-analysis included 20 studies identifying 11,163 patients with gastric cancer. We found that CDX 1 overexpression was associated with better overall survival (pooled HR: 1.28) and CDX 2 expression and better 3-year survival (pooled HR: 1.64) and 5-year survival was the pooled HR was correlated 1 94 with both showing statistical correlation. Evidence suggests that IDH 1/2 mutations and CDX 1/2 overexpression are closely associated with metabolic abnormalities epigenetic changes and mutations evidence suggests the potential for novel targeted therapies in gastric cancer. CDX 1/2 overexpression is associated with a favorable prognosis in gastric cancer cases. Further studies are needed to explore the clinical significance of IDH 1/2 mutations and CDX 1/2 expression.

Introduction: Mucocutaneous complications or adverse events due to SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination have been well delineated in the literature, respectively. Most eruptions are considered mild and self-limiting; however, for the atypical cases with a tentative clinical diagnosis, performing a biopsy and histopathological assessment is pivotal to confirm the diagnosis and subsequently prescribe a more tailored treatment. Despite the diverse reporting of such incidents globally, most studies restrict the rate of biopsied cases to less than 15%. Case Presentations: This case series elucidates 20 patients referred to the tertiary dermatology clinic, including 14 COVID-19 infection-related eruptions such as lichen planus (LP), cutaneous vasculitis, pityriasis rosea (PR), discoid lupus erythematosus, guttate psoriasis, sarcoidosis, Raynaud's phenomenon, non-specific lesions resembling genital warts, Beau's line, and one severe case of purpura fulminans with a promising outcome. Moreover, we presented six vaccine-induced cases comprising LP, urticarial vasculitis, PR, parapsoriasis, and localized morphea. The diagnosis of all challenging cases has been proven by histopathological evaluation. We included pertaining anamnesis details of each patient and vivid classifying images to pinpoint the morphologic features of each condition. Discussion: In line with our previous studies, the vaccine-induced eruptions were less severe compared to infection-related complications of COVID-19 and are mostly controllable by antihistamines and corticosteroid administration. Therefore, reporting such events should not impede COVID-19 vaccination in the general population.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to systematically review randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) studying various types of regenerative medicine methods (such as platelet-rich plasma, stromal vascular fraction, cell therapy, conditioned media, etc.) in treating specific dermatologic diseases. Rejuvenation, scarring, wound healing, and other secondary conditions of skin damage were not investigated in this study. METHOD: Major databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, were meticulously searched for RCTs up to January 2024, focusing on regenerative medicine interventions for specific dermatologic disorders (such as androgenetic alopecia, vitiligo, alopecia areata, etc.). Key data extracted encompassed participant characteristics and sample sizes, types of regenerative therapy, treatment efficacy, and adverse events. RESULTS: In this systematic review, 64 studies involving a total of 2888 patients were examined. Women constituted 44.8% of the study population, while men made up 55.2% of the participants, with an average age of 27.64 years. The most frequently studied skin diseases were androgenetic alopecia (AGA) (45.3%) and vitiligo (31.2%). The most common regenerative methods investigated for these diseases were PRP and the transplantation of autologous epidermal melanocyte/keratinocyte cells, respectively. Studies reported up to 68.4% improvement in AGA and up to 71% improvement in vitiligo. Other diseases included in the review were alopecia areata, melasma, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSA), inflammatory acne vulgaris, chronic telogen effluvium, erosive oral lichen planus, and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Regenerative medicine was found to be an effective treatment option in all of these studies, along with other methods. The regenerative medicine techniques investigated in this study comprised the transplantation of autologous epidermal melanocyte/keratinocyte cells, isolated melanocyte transplantation, cell transplantation from hair follicle origins, melanocyte-keratinocyte suspension in PRP, conditioned media injection, a combination of PRP and basic fibroblast growth factor, intravenous injection of mesenchymal stem cells, concentrated growth factor, stromal vascular fraction (SVF), a combination of PRP and SVF, and preserving hair grafts in PRP. CONCLUSION: Regenerative medicine holds promise as a treatment for specific dermatologic disorders. To validate our findings, it is recommended to conduct numerous clinical trials focusing on various skin conditions. In our study, we did not explore secondary skin lesions like scars or ulcers. Therefore, assessing the effectiveness of this treatment method for addressing these conditions would necessitate a separate study.
