RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of Chinese patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) on AR is poorly known. This study investigated the KAP towards AR in patients with this disease and explored the factors associated with KAP. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with AR in Zhangjiagang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine between October 2022 and March 2023. RESULTS: This study included 656 valid questionnaires. Most participants were 26-35 years old (36.13%) and were female (55.18%). The knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 5.70 ± 2.88 (possible range: 0-12), 29.51 ± 3.52 (possible range: 9-45), and 34.13 ± 7.55 (possible range: 9-45), indicating poor knowledge, unfavorable attitudes, and proactive practice. AR history of 3-5 years (adjusted odds ratio (adjOR) = 1.62, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.03-2.54, P = 0.037), AR history of > 6 years (adjOR = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.06-2.54, P = 0.027), and know their own allergens (adjOR = 2.34, 95%CI: 1.28-4.25, P = 0.005) were independently associated with the sufficient knowledge. AR history of ≥ 6 years (adjOR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.37-0.96, P = 0.035), and liking sports (adjOR = 1.58, 95%CI = 1.07-2.33, P = 0.020) were independently associated with the positive attitude. The knowledge scores (adjOR = 1.14, 95%CI: 1.05-1.22, P = 0.001), attitude scores (adjOR = 1.24, 95%CI: 1.17-1.32, P < 0.001), age 36-45 (adjOR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.19-3.82, P = 0.011), employed (adjOR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.37-0.94, P = 0.026), and liking sports (adjOR = 2.11, 95%CI: 1.43-3.14, P < 0.001) were independently associated with the proactive practice. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with AR have poor knowledge and unfavorable attitudes but good practice toward AR. Continuous quality teaching interventions and education on patients for AR were recommended.

RESUMO

Sympatric closely related species may experience interspecific trophic competition due to ecological similarity; they may isolate in terms of diet or habitat use as a strategy to avoid competition. The body tissues of consumers contain stable isotope signatures information that can be applied to infer their dietary information. In this study, δ13C and δ15N stable isotopes were analyzed to determine the dietary information and trophic niches of sympatric coexisting Sitta yunnanensis and Sitta nagaensis. The results showed that the food sources of S. yunnanensis and S. nagaensis were from six orders, including Orthoptera, and the cumulative contribution rate was 99.97%, with the two species eating similar diets but at different rates. The larger δ13C of S. yunnanensis indicates that it had a wider range of habitats for feeding, while the difference in δ15N values was not significant (p > 0.05), indicating that both species feed on similar nutrient levels. As determined by Bayesian ellipses, the isotopic niches of S. yunnanensis and S. nagaensis were differentiated; the isotopic niche width of S. yunnanensis is 2.69‱2, which was larger than that of S. nagaensis (0.73‱2), indicates that differentiation between the two species in diet or habitat use reduced competition. Trophic niche differentiation and differences in foraging proportions may be the principal resource allocation mechanisms behind S. yunnanensis and S. nagaensis coexistence.

RESUMO

The favorable microstructure and bioactivity of tissue-engineered bone scaffolds are closely associated with the regenerative efficacy of bone defects. For the treatment of large bone defects, however, most of them fail to meet requirements such as adequate mechanical strength, highly porous structure, and excellent angiogenic and osteogenic activities. Herein, inspired by the characteristics of a "flowerbed", we construct a short nanofiber aggregates-enriched dual-factor delivery scaffold via 3D printing and electrospinning techniques for guiding vascularized bone regeneration. By the assembly of short nanofibers containing dimethyloxalylglycine (DMOG)-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles with a 3D printed strontium-contained hydroxyapatite/polycaprolactone (SrHA@PCL) scaffold, an adjustable porous structure can be easily realized by changing the density of nanofibers, while strong compressive strength will be acquired due to the framework role of SrHA@PCL. Owing to the different degradation performance between electrospun nanofibers and 3D printed microfilaments, a sequential release behavior of DMOG and Sr ions is achieved. Both in vivo and in vitro results demonstrate that the dual-factor delivery scaffold has excellent biocompatibility, significantly promotes angiogenesis and osteogenesis by stimulating endothelial cells and osteoblasts, and effectively accelerates tissue ingrowth and vascularized bone regeneration through activating the hypoxia inducible factor-1α pathway and immunoregulatory effect. Overall, this study has provided a promising strategy for constructing a bone microenvironment-matched biomimetic scaffold for bone regeneration.

RESUMO

Vascularization plays an important role in the initial stage of triggering bone defect repair. The combination of bioactive small molecule drugs and biomaterials has been a powerful strategy for vascularization in bone tissue engineering. In this study, an in situ crosslinked aldehyde hyaluronic acid (AHA)/N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCC) nanocomposite hydrogel doped with sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P)-loaded polyelectrolyte-modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) was developed. The alginate/chitosan polyelectrolyte-modified MSNs (MSNs-ALG/CHI) were prepared via the electrostatic interaction. The incorporation of MSNs-ALG/CHI not only achieved a sustained release profile of the angiogenic drug, but also improved the mechanical property of the AHA/NOCC hydrogel due to the Schiff base reaction between the amino group in chitosan and the aldehyde group in AHA. In addition, in vitro cell experiments demonstrated that the nanocomposite hydrogel provided favorable support for cell adhesion and proliferation, and the S1P-loaded nanocomposite hydrogel was able to recruit endothelial cells. More importantly, the chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay confirmed that the S1P-loaded nanocomposite hydrogel could significantly enhance capillary formation. More cell infiltration and better angiogenesis in the S1P loaded nanocomposite hydrogel were observed compared to the group without S1P loading after being implanted subcutaneously for 2 weeks. Furthermore, the subcutaneous implantation experiment further demonstrated that the incorporation of the S1P-loaded nanocomposite hydrogel could improve the tissue infiltration and new vessel formation within the macroporous poly(L-lactic acid)/polycaprolactone scaffold. Our results suggest that the nanocomposite hydrogel will be an excellent drug delivery system and the S1P-loaded nanocomposite hydrogel has great potential for vascularized bone regeneration application.

RESUMO

The exploration of advanced probes for cancer diagnosis and treatment is of high importance in fundamental research and clinical practice. In comparison with the traditional "always-on" probes, the emerging activatable probes enjoy advantages in promoted accuracy for tumor theranostics by specifically releasing or activating fluorophores at the targeting sites. The main designing principle for these probes is to incorporate responsive groups that can specifically react with the biomarkers (e. g., enzymes) involved in tumorigenesis and progression, realizing the controlled activation in tumors. In this review, we summarize the latest advances in the molecular design and biomedical application of enzyme-responsive organic fluorescent probes. Particularly, the fluorophores can be endowed with ability of generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) to afford the photosensitizers, highlighting the potential of these probes in simultaneous tumor imaging and therapy with rational design. We hope that this review could inspire more research interests in the development of tumor-targeting theranostic probes for advanced biological studies.
