BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is regarded as a dependable alternative for assessing insulin resistance (IR), given its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and strong correlation with IR. The relationship between the TyG index and adverse outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is not well established. This study examines the association of the TyG index with long-term adverse outcomes in hospitalized CHD patients. METHODS: In this single-center prospective cohort study, 3321 patients hospitalized with CHD were included. Multivariate Cox regression models were employed to assess the associations between the TyG index and the incidence of all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). To examine potential nonlinear associations, restricted cubic splines and threshold analysis were utilized. RESULTS: During a follow-up period of 9.4 years, 759 patients (22.9%) succumbed to mortality, while 1291 (38.9%) experienced MACEs. Threshold analysis demonstrated a significant "U"-shaped nonlinear relationship with MACEs, with different hazard ratios observed below and above a TyG index of 8.62 (below: HR 0.71, 95% CI 0.50-0.99; above: HR 1.28, 95% CI 1.10-1.48). Notably, an increased risk of all-cause mortality was observed only when the TyG index exceeded 8.77 (HR 1.53, 95% CI 1.19-1.96). CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals a nonlinear association between the TyG index and both all-cause mortality and MACEs in hospitalized CHD patients with CHD. Assessing the TyG index, particularly focusing on individuals with extremely low or high TyG index values, may enhance risk stratification for adverse outcomes in this patient population.

BACKGROUND: studies comparing different frailty measures in intensive care unit settings are lacking. We aimed to compare the frailty index based on physiological and laboratory tests (FI-Lab), modified frailty index (MFI) and hospital frailty risk score (HFRS) to predict short-term outcomes for critically ill patients. METHODS: we conducted a secondary analysis of data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. Outcomes of interest included in-hospital mortality and discharge with need for nursing care. RESULTS: the primary analysis was conducted with 21,421 eligible critically ill patients. After adjusting for confounding variables, frailty as diagnosed by all three frailty measures was found to be significantly associated with increased in-hospital mortality. In addition, frail patients were more likely to receive further nursing care after being discharged. All three frailty scores could improve the discrimination ability of the initial model generated by baseline characteristics for adverse outcomes. The FI-Lab had the best predictive ability for in-hospital mortality, whereas the HFRS had the best predictive performance for discharge with need for nursing care amongst the three frailty measures. A combination of the FI-Lab with either the HFRS or MFI improved the identification of critically ill patients at increased risk of in-hospital mortality. CONCLUSIONS: frailty, as assessed by the HFRS, MFI and FI-Lab, was associated with short-term survival and discharge with need for nursing care amongst critically ill patients. The FI-Lab was a better predictor of in-hospital mortality than the HFRS and MFI. Future studies focusing on FI-Lab are warranted.

The objective of this study is to observe the effect of high selenium on the antioxidant and immune functions of growing goats based on transcriptome sequencing. Eighteen goats were randomly divided into three groups: (1) the control (CON) group was fed a basal diet, and (2) the treatment 1 group (LS) and treatment 2 group (HS) were fed a basal diet with 2.4 and 4.8 mg/kg selenium-yeast (SY), respectively. The results indicate that HS treatment significantly (p < 0.05) increased the apparent digestibility of either extract and significantly increased (p < 0.05) total antioxidant capacity, whereas it significantly (p < 0.05) decreased plasma aspartate aminotransferase and malondialdehyde relative to the control group. The LS treatment had significantly (p < 0.05) increased glutathione S-transferase and catalase compared to CON. A total of 532 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the CON and HS were obtained using transcriptome sequencing. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis identified upregulated (p < 0.05) DEGs mainly related to vascular smooth muscle contraction, alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, the VEGF signalling pathway, and proteoglycans in cancer; downregulated (p < 0.05) DEGs mainly related to the NOD-like receptor signalling pathway, influenza A, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, haematopoietic cell lineage, and African trypanosomiasis. Ontology analyses of the top genes show that the identified DEGs are mainly involved in the regulation of granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor production for biological processes, the external side of the plasma membrane for cellular components, and carbohydrate derivative binding for molecular functions. Seven genes are considered potential candidate genes for regulating antioxidant activity, including selenoprotein W, 1, glutathione peroxidase 1, glutathione S-transferase A1, tumour necrosis factor, tumour necrosis factor superfamily member 10, tumour necrosis factor superfamily member 8, and tumour necrosis factor superfamily member 13b. The experimental observations indicate that dietary supplementation with 4.8 mg/kg SY can enhance antioxidant and immune functions by improving muscle immunity, reducing the concentrations of inflammatory molecules, and modulating antioxidant and inflammatory signalling pathways in growing goats.

Although nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are highly correlated clinical diseases, the underling molecular mechanisms to link the two diseases remain largely unknown. The aim of this study is to identify the shared functional modules for NPC and OSCC by using large-scale transcriptomic data. Gene expression profile datasets of NPC and OSCC were obtained from the GEO database. A total of 1279 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of NPC and 1293 DEGs of OSCC were identified by fold change and empirical Bayes method, and 278 DEGs were common to these two diseases. These overlapped genes were translated into a primary network consisting of 1290 nodes (genes) and 1766 edges. The primary network was then decomposed into 15 compacted modules (subnets) with high modularity by Newman's algorithm. Topological analysis of these modules identified a total of 58 hub genes, most of which (e.g., PCNA, CDK1, STAT1, CCL5, and MMP1) have been proved to be associated with NPC and/or OSCC, while the rest (e.g., MELK, NME1, RACGAP1, INHBA, and NID1) might be novel risk genes for the two diseases. Further bioinformatics analysis of KEGG databases revealed that these modules are involved in multiple pathogenic biological pathways for either NPC or OSCC (e.g., p53 signaling pathway, ECM-receptor interaction, focal adhesion, and cell cycle). This study demonstrates that NPC and OSCC have similar molecular bases, and the identified pleiotropic modules may shape the complicated molecular interplays underlying the two clinically correlated diseases.

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) encoded by nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3), can generate nitric oxide (NO) which serves as an important deterrent to the pathogenesis of thrombosis by modulating the activation, adhesion and aggregate formation of platelets. Three serum miRNAs (miR-195, miR-532 and miR-582) have been suggested as biomarkers for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), however their potential roles in DVT is not clear. The effect of miRNAs inhibiting the expression of NOS3 was evaluated in vitro. miR-195, miR-532 and miR-582 mimic, inhibitor, and control miRNAs were transfected into endothelial cells. The roles of miR-195, miR-532 and miR-582 regulating the expression of eNOS were evaluated by real-time quantitative PCR, Western Blotting and luciferase reporter assays. NO release was measured by Griess method. We confirmed NOS3 as a direct target of miR-195 and miR-582, which binds to the 3'-UTR of NOS3 mRNA in endothelial cells. A significantly inverse correlation between these two miRNAs and eNOS expression was detected. NO release from endothelial cells was decreased when the expression level of miR-195 and miR-582 was up-regulated. These findings indicated that miR-195 and miR-582 regulated NO release by targeting 3'-UTR of NOS3 post-transcriptionally in endothelial cells. Therefore, miR-195 and miR-582 might play an important role in maintaining endothelial NO bioavailability and could be a novel target for treatment of thrombotic diseases.

In this study,field cultivation experiments of Notopterygium incisum had been carried out for three years, and samples had been collected monthly during growth seasons, and biomass and nutrient elements of aerial and underground part of sampled plants had been determined to assess their seasonal and interannual dynamics respectively. The results showed that biomass of underground part (dry weight) increased mainly in the second year after seedling transplanting, i.e., biomass increased about 32 times in the second year whilst less than 6 times and 2 times in the first year and in the third year, respectively. Therefore, efforts for yield improvement should be focused on the first two year in artificial cultivation of N. incisum. Accumulation of nutrient elements increased steady in the underground part during the first and second year, then showed a sharp decline in the first phase of growth season in the third year, while its accumulation in July to August of third year was higher than the value of second year. Ca, Fe, B and Zn were larger demand nutrient elements to meet growth demands whether for the underground part or aerial part during the second year and third year for N. incisum cultivation. This result provided instructional guidance and scientific basis for artificial cultivation and specific fertilizer of N. incisum.

Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, the underground part of Notopterygium incisum and N. franchetii, is used as a classical traditional Chinese medicine, and as raw materials for 262 Chinese patent drugs production in 694 pharmaceutical factories currently. It plays an important role in the whole Chinese medicine industry with irreplaceable important economic and social values. However, wild resource of was abruptly depleted, and large-scale artificial cultivation has been inapplicable. In this study, Utilization history and the industrialization status of Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix were summarized. Resource distribution, ecological suitability of Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix and core technologies for seeds production, seedling breeding, large-scale cultivation has been reported by current studies, and basic conditions are already available for industrialization production of Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix. However, there still some key technical problems need to be solved in the further research, and some policy dimensions need to be focused on in the coming industrialization cultivation of Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix.

The major contributing factors for growth of endangered medicinal plants of Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus were screened on the GIS platform by using the MaxEnt model, and spatial distribution data of the medicine quality suitability were generated by geostatistics interpolation based on reported measured data of ecology and quality suitability assessment. On this basis, a functional production cultivation regionalization with high feasibility and operability were formatted for protection, wild monitoring, and cultivation of this plant by fuzzy superposition of spatial suitability data of ecology and quality, as well as integrated with land use and cover data. Therefore, a novel assessment and regionalization method were presented for ecology, growth and quality suitability of the Chinese traditional medicinal plants. This method is expected to overcome shortage of traditional regionalization methods difficult to distinguish the contribution of ecological factors and quality factors, which provide an innovative theory and methodology for regionalization, and is helpful to practical application of wild resource protection, monitoring, and commercialization cultivation for traditional Chinese medicinal plants.

A polarized light microscope (PLM) was utilized to examine the optical textures of mesophase pitch (MP) and MP-derived fibers, which aimed to reveal the arrangement and orientation characteristics of pitch molecules and to clarify the evolution and transformation mechanism of carbonaceous microcrystalline from pitch fibers to graphitized fibers. The results found that there were distinct optical textures in MP, where one side exhibited a transition from a flattening plane to a mountain-like undulating plane. This transition corresponded to the arrangement of pitch molecules, resembling stacked lamellar structures reminiscent of curved paper. Meanwhile, the optical textures of fibers revealed that the blue substance was wrapped around the red grain-like domains in the longitudinal section and confirmed that the red part belonged to the pyridine insoluble fraction of MP and the blue part belonged to its pyridine-soluble fraction. After graphitization, the red part was transformed into graphite sheets and the blue part was transformed into an amorphous carbon layer which was wrapped around the graphite sheets, forming a carbonaceous microcrystalline package-like bag. Therefore, this study provided a comprehensive interpretation of the structural evolution mechanism of MP and MP-derived fibers based on their macro-optical textures and micro-nanostructures.

With the rapid advancement of urbanization and industrialization, ecological patches within cities and towns are fragmented and ecological corridors are cut off, regional ecological security is threatened and sustainable development is hindered. Building an ecological network that conforms to regional realities can connect fragmented patches, protect biodiversity and regional characteristics, and provide scientific reference for regional ecological protection and ecological network planning. By taking Qilin District, the main urban area of Qujing City as an example, and using geospatial data as the main data source, based on morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) and minimum cumulative resistance (MCR), this study identified ecological source areas, extracted ecological corridors, and build & optimize ecological networks. (1) All landscape types are identified based on MSPA, the proportion of core area was the highest among all landscape types, which was 80.69%, combined with the connectivity evaluation, 14 important ecological source areas were selected. (2) 91 potential ecological corridors were extracted through MCR and gravity models, there were 16 important ones. (3) The network connectivity analysis method is used to calculate the α, ß, and γ indexes of the ecological network before optimization, which were 2.36, 6.5, and 2.53, while after optimization, α, ß and γ indices were 3.8, 9.5 and 3.5, respectively. The combined application of MSPA-MCR model and ecological network connectivity analysis evaluation is conducive to improving the structure and functionality of ecological network.

Different spatial positions lead to inconsistent fermentation effects and flavors, however, the spatial heterogeneity of Qingxiangxing (QXX) Baijiu remains unknown. We investigated the microbes, flavors, and physicochemical properties of different layers in fermented grains of QXX Baijiu using Illumina HiSeq sequencing, two-dimensional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC × GC-MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass (UHPLC-MS). A total of 79 volatiles, 1596 metabolites, 50 bacterial genera, and 52 fungal genera were identified. The contents distribution followed the order: upper layer > bottom layer > middle layer. Organic acids and derivatives were the main differential metabolites across the three layers. Starch, pH, and reducing sugar levels increased from the upper to bottom layer. Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus were dominant microbes. Pediococcus, the biomarker of upper layer, showed positive correlations with formic acid, ethyl lactate, acetic acid, ethyl linoleate, and ethyl oleate. These findings deepen our understanding of the fermentation and flavor formation mechanisms of QXX Baijiu.

Although vaccination remains the prevalent prophylactic means for controlling Influenza A virus (IAV) infections, novel structural antivirus small-molecule drugs with new mechanisms of action for treating IAV are highly desirable. Herein, we describe a modular biomimetic strategy to expeditiously achieve a new class of macrocycles featuring oxime, which might target the hemagglutinin (HA)-mediated IAV entry into the host cells. SAR analysis revealed that the size and linker of the macrocycles play an important role in improving potency. Particularly, as a 14-membered macrocyclic oxime, 37 exhibited potent inhibitory activity against IAV H1N1 with an EC50 value of 23 nM and low cytotoxicity, which alleviated cytopathic effects and protected cell survival obviously after H1N1 infection. Furthermore, 37 showed significant synergistic activity with neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir in vitro.

Flexible transparent electrodes (FTEs) have been widely witnessed in various printable electronic devices, especially those involving light. So far, solution processes have demonstrated increasing advantages in preparing FTEs not only in their mild operation conditions and high-throughput but also in the diversity in micropatterning conductive nanomaterials into networks. For the FTEs, both high transparency and high conductivity are desirable, which therefore create requirements for the conductive network by considering the trade-off relationship between the coverage and the micropatterns of the network. In addition, the conductive networks also affect the flexibility of FTEs due to the deformation during bending/stretching. Consequently, solution processes capable of micropatterning conductive nanomaterials including nanoparticles, nanowires/polymers, and graphene/MXene play a crucial role in determining the performance of FTEs. Here, we reviewed recent research progress on solution-processed FTEs, including the solution processes, the solution-processable conductive nanomaterials and the substrates for making FTEs, and applications of FTEs in flexible electronics. Finally, we proposed several perspective outlooks of the FTEs, which aim at not only the enhanced performance but also the performances in extreme conditions and in integration. We believe that the review would offer inspiration for developing functional FTEs.

Urban forest is an integral part of the complex urban ecosystem, and tree canopy plays a key role in improving urban climatic environment. Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) is strongly linked to urban thermal environment and living quality of residents. In this study, Luoping County, a mountainous county in southwest China, was selected as the study area to uncover the inner connections between tree canopy and thermal environment, and provide relevant scientific references for the construction of livable forest cities in similar areas. Through eCongnition Developer, ENVI and ArcGIS software, the distribution of Land Surface Temperature (LST) and land cover types in the study area was extracted, 63 patches with super-large and extra-large tree canopy coverage selected, to explore the regulatory effect of UTC patches on urban thermal environment based on SPSS software. Results showed that the highest LST in the research area was 37.63 â„ƒ, the lowest 24.73 â„ƒ, and the average 30.83 â„ƒ. Among the land cover types, the area of buildings and impervious surfaces was 1615.71 hm2, accounting for 55.76% of the total study area, which was the largest proportion and with widespread distribution; the area of grassland and water body was 57.48 hm2 and 12.35 hm2, respectively, taking up 1.98% and 0.43%, with a smaller proportion. Mean LST: impervious surface > bare land > grassland > tree canopy > water body. By increasing the area and perimeter of the patch covered by tree canopy, the cooling rate of the patch can be increased while the temperature inside the patch can be reduced. The relationship between the area and cooling rate is closer than that between perimeter and cooling rate. The increase of perimeter has a stronger alleviation effect on the internal temperature of the patch, whereas, the increase of area has a weaker effect in this respect.

BACKGROUND: Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) severely impairs patient postoperative quality of life, especially major LARS. However, there are few tools that can accurately predict major LARS in clinical practice. AIM: To develop a machine learning model using preoperative and intraoperative factors for predicting major LARS following laparoscopic surgery of rectal cancer in Chinese populations. METHODS: Clinical data and follow-up information of patients who received laparoscopic anterior resection for rectal cancer from two medical centers (one discovery cohort and one external validation cohort) were included in this retrospective study. For the discovery cohort, the machine learning prediction algorithms were developed and internally validated. In the external validation cohort, we evaluated the trained model using various performance metrics. Further, the clinical utility of the model was tested by decision curve analysis. RESULTS: Overall, 1651 patients were included in the present study. Anastomotic height, neoadjuvant therapy, diverting stoma, body mass index, clinical stage, specimen length, tumor size, and age were the risk factors associated with major LARS. They were used to construct the machine learning model to predict major LARS. The trained random forest (RF) model performed with an area under the curve of 0.852 and a sensitivity of 0.795 (95%CI: 0.681-0.877), a specificity of 0.758 (95%CI: 0.671-0.828), and Brier score of 0.166 in the external validation set. Compared to the previous preoperative LARS score model, the current model exhibited superior predictive performance in predicting major LARS in our cohort (accuracy of 0.772 for the RF model vs 0.355 for the preoperative LARS score model). CONCLUSION: We developed and validated a robust tool for predicting major LARS. This model could potentially be used in the clinic to identify patients with a high risk of developing major LARS and then improve the quality of life.

In this study, we investigated the effects of epibrassinolide spraying at different growth stages on grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), and uptake efficiency (UPE) of wide-belt sowing wheat. The results showed that epibrassinolide spraying enhanced wheat grain yield by increasing the number of kernels per spike and (or) 1000-kernel weight, and improved NUE by promoting aboveground nitrogen accumulation and improving UPE. However, the magnitudes of such enhancements in yield and NUE differed among spraying times. Spraying epibrassinolide at the erecting and filling stages, jointing and filling stages, erecting, jointing, and filling stages, as well as erecting, flowering, and filling stages, produced the greatest increase in the number of kernels per spike and 1000-kernel weight, which led to substantial yield increases (12.8%-14.0%), and the greatest increase in aboveground nitrogen accumulation, which improved UPE by 16.4%-18.8%, and resulted in a significant improvement in NUE. Therefore, spraying epibrassinolide at the erecting and filling stage or jointing and filling stages could achieve high yield and NUE in wide-belt sowing wheat.

Virus removal from water using microfiltration (MF) membranes is of great interest but remains challenging owing to the membranes' mean pore sizes typically being significantly larger than most viruses. We present microporous membranes grafted with polyzwitterionic brushes (N-dimethylammonium betaine) that combine bacteriophage removal in the range of ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with the permeance of MF membranes. Brush structures were grafted in two steps: free-radical polymerization followed by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron (XPS) verified that grafting occurred at both sides of the membranes and that the grafting increased with increasing the zwitterion monomer concentration. The log reduction values (LRVs) of the pristine membrane increased from less than 0.5 LRV for T4 (∼100 nm) and NT1 (∼50 nm) bacteriophages to up to 4.5 LRV for the T4 and 3.1 LRV for the NT1 for the brush-grafted membranes with a permeance of about 1000 LMH/bar. The high permeance was attributed to a high-water fraction in the ultra-hydrophilic brush structure. The high measured LRVs of the brush-grafted membranes were attributed to enhanced bacteriophages exclusion from the membrane surface and entrapment of the ones that penetrated the pores due to the membranes' smaller mean pore-size and cross-section porosity than those of the pristine membrane, as seen by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and measured using liquid-liquid porometry. Micro X-ray fluorescence (µ-XRF) spectrometry and nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry showed that 100 nm Si-coated gold nanospheres accumulated on the surface of the pristine membrane but not on the brush-coated membrane and that the nanospheres that penetrated the membranes were entrapped in the brush-grafted membrane but passed the pristine one. These results corroborate the LRVs obtained during filtration experiments and support the inference that the increased removal was due to a combined exclusion mechanism and entrapment. Overall, these microporous brush-grafted membranes show potential for use in advanced water treatment.

Background: Frailty is a risk factor for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study examined the association between the modified frailty index (MFI) and adverse outcomes in patients with critical AMI. Methods: Data were obtained from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. Logistic and Cox regression models and a competing risk model were applied. Results: Of 5003 patients, 1496 were non-frail and 3507 were frail. Frailty was significantly associated with in-hospital mortality (per point, OR 1.13, 95% CI: 1.05-1.21; frail vs non-frail, OR 1.31, 95% CI: 1.04-1.65) and 1-year mortality (per point, HR 1.15, 95% CI: 1.11-1.20; frail vs non-frail, HR 1.37, 95% CI: 1.20-1.58). Frailty was significantly associated with post-discharge care needs (per point, OR 1.23, 95% CI: 1.14-1.33; frail vs non-frail, OR 1.47, 95% CI: 1.22-1.78). In the competing risk models, frailty was significantly associated with a lower probability of being discharged from the ICU (per point, HR 0.87, 95% CI: 0.85-0.90; frail vs non-frail, HR 0.73, 95% CI: 0.68-0.79) and hospital (per point, HR 0.82, 95% CI: 0.80-0.85; frail vs non-frail, HR 0.62, 95% CI: 0.57-0.68). Subgroup analyses showed the association of frailty with in-hospital and 1-year mortality was stronger in patients with a SOFA score ≤2 than in those with a SOFA score >2 (both p<0.05 for interaction). Conclusion: Frailty assessed by the MFI was an independent predictor of adverse outcomes in patients with critical AMI and may be helpful for prognostic risk stratification.

Carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) are important nutrients, and their ecological stoichiometric characteristics can reflect the quality and fertility capacity of soil, which is critical to understanding the stable mechanisms of estuarine wetland ecosystems. Under global changes, the increase in salinity and flooding caused by sea level rise will lead to changes in biogeochemical processes in estuarine wetlands, which is expected to affect the ecological stoichiometric characteristics of soil C, N, and P and ultimately interfere with the stability of wetland ecosystems. However, it remains unclear how the C, N, and P ecological stoichiometric characteristics respond to the water-salt environment in estuarine wetlands. We differentiated changes in the C, N, and P ecological stoichiometric characteristics through an ex-situ culture experiment for 23 months in the Yellow River Estuary Wetland. The five sites with distinct tidal hydrology were selected to manipulate translocation of soil cores from the freshwater marsh to high-, middle-, and low-tidal flats in June 2019. The results showed that soil water content (SWC); electrical conductivity (EC); and C, N, and P ecological stoichiometric characteristics of freshwater marsh soil significantly changed after translocation for 23 months. SWC decreased on the high- and middle-tidal flats (P<0.05) and increased on the low-tidal flat (P<0.05). EC increased to different degrees on all three tidal flats (P<0.05). Soil total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) were significantly lower on the high-tidal flat (P<0.05), whereas total phosphorus (TP) was significantly lower on the middle- and high-tidal flats (P<0.05). C:N was decreased on the high- and middle-tidal flats (P<0.05); C:P and N:P were lower on the high-tidal flat; and all C, N, and P ecological stoichiometric characteristics showed no change on the low-tidal flat (P>0.05). Pearson's analysis showed that the ecological stoichiometric characteristics of C, N, and P were related to some properties of soil over the culture sites. The PLS-SEM model showed that the water-salt environment had different effects on soil C:N, C:P, and N:P through the main pathways of negative effects on soil TOC and TP. The results suggest that sea level rise may impact the C, N, and P ecological stoichiometric characteristics in freshwater marsh soil, resulting in some possible changes in the nutrient cycles of estuarine wetlands.

OBJECTIVE: To study the identification characters of Baphicacanthus cusia and its confused herb Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum and establish an identification method. METHODS: LMVP (leaf morphological-venation pattern for identification Chinese herbs) and QAERM (quantitatively analyze and evaluate reliability for the method of identification Chinese herbs) were applied for the study. RESULTS: The main differences of the leaf were as follows: Baphicacanthus cusia: leaf base attenuate, dry leaves deep dull blue green, spindle spots, no or small glandular scales somewhere, the limit between midrib and petiole was not clear, below undermost secondary vein some tertiary veins issue from midrib; Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum: leaf base not attenuate; dry leaves yellow green, green, green yellow, yellow brown, no spindle spots, densely covered by glandular scales,the limit between midrib and petiole was clear, below undermost secondary vein none tertiary veins issue from midrib. With the mentioned six groups of key differences, the both plants could be successfully identified from each other. The accuracy of identification results (AC) was from 98.5% to 99.2%, the repeatability of identification results: agreement rate for observation (ARO) was 97.7% and Kappa value was 0.95. CONCLUSION: The established method is simple, rapid, economic and reliable.
