Same authors regard gambling as addiction. A detailed psychiatric examination revealed the obsessive-compulsive syndrome in the patient. The authors treated the patient systematically using the individual psychotherapy and sertraline from low doses up to the maximal dose (i.e., about 200 mg daily). A complete remission of the obsessive-compulsive syndrome was achieved. A number of indirect proofs demonstrate a significant role of sertraline in the etiology of the obsessive-compulsive syndrome. The most important evidence is the effectiveness of the drugs from the group of selective inhibitors of serotonin central reuptake (SI-SHT) in the treatment of the obsessive-compulsive syndrome. Sertraline is safe and effective in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive syndrome (Ref. 7).

Treatment of postpsychotic depression with sertraline in patients with schizophrenia.

Some authors treated a two groups of patients with postpsychotic depression in a groups of patients with schizophrenia. Sertraline proved better than imipramine in view of earlier onset of action and lower incidence, intensity and duration of adverse effects and lower risk of schizophrenie symtom recurrence (Ref 4).

The influence of sulpiride, a neuroleptic included into the group of benzamide derivatives, upon endocrine system has been discussed in the article. It is noted that sulpiride clearly increases the evolution of prolactin in both sexes. It gives a chain of various consequences. They are, among others, impairment of gonad activity in both sexes which causes emmeniopathy and galactorrhea in women and impotence in men. The influence of hyperprolactinemia, caused by sulpiride, upon the level of testosterone in plasma and also upon the evolution of progesterone has been also discussed. The knowledge of the influence of sulpiride upon endocrine system is necessary for physicians applying therapy by this medicine. In the article the analysis has been carried out how wider and wider used neuroleptic-sulpiride--influences upon endocrine system and particularly upon the evaluation of prolactin. In the article the main methods of action of the known neuroleptic-sulpiride have been discussed. This is an antiautistic, activizing, antipsychotic and antidepressive action. The other authors used sulpiride in therapy of depressive endogenic syndrome. They obtained a good therapeutic effect. The drug distribution in human organism was also taken into consideration. The mechanism of action of sulpiride and its extrapsychiatric application was also mentioned. The other authors often combines the drug with benzodiazepine derivatives which soothe the fear characteristic of depression.

The aim of this work is to show the way and means of therapy with lithium salts in psychiatry. It takes under concideration the mechanism of acting, absorbtion and distribution in human organism of these lithium salts. The practical instruction wasn't omitted. One referred the other use of lithium salts. One described the conjunction and synergy lithium with other drugs. One stretched the side effects and comlpication which can appeared in the treatment of lithium which have to be ware the doctors practitioners.

The actual progress of medical studies, reach to 1% in comparison with former data 20% a number of death in delirium tremens. The aim of this study is the presentation the symptoms of alcohol psychosis, as well as of various methods of it's cure. To choose of right therapy is sometimes very difficult for the physician. [Anxiety-depressive neurosis in ambulatory treatment conditions]. / Nerwica lekowo-depresyjna w warunkach leczenia ambulatoryjnego.

A group of 48 patient was treated for fear and depressive neurosis at Psychical Health Consulting Unit. They were observed and evaluated in period from April 5th, 1990 till December 31st, 1990. The group included 32 women and 16 men. The conclusion is the women was 66.6% and the men 33.4%. 23 persons (47.9%) was treated with Doxepin and 25 persons (52.1%) was treated with Alprazolam (Xanax, Valeans). The administration of one medicine was the rule, in case of the failure a medicine was change for another one. One used also individual psychotherapy.
