RESUMO

The superallowed ß-decay rates that provide stringent constraints on physics beyond the standard model of particle physics are affected by nuclear structure effects through isospin-breaking corrections. The self-consistent isospin- and angular-momentum-projected nuclear density functional theory is used for the first time to compute those corrections for a number of Fermi transitions in nuclei from A=10 to A=74. The resulting leading element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, |V(ud)|=0.97447(23), agrees well with the recent result of Towner and Hardy [Phys. Rev. C 77, 025501 (2008)].

RESUMO

We present the self-consistent, nonperturbative analysis of isospin mixing using the nuclear density functional approach and the rediagonalization of the Coulomb interaction in the good-isospin basis. The unphysical isospin violation on the mean-field level, caused by the neutron excess, is eliminated by the proposed method. We find a significant dependence of the magnitude of isospin breaking on the parametrization of the nuclear interaction. A rough correlation has been found between the isospin-mixing parameter and the difference of proton and neutron rms radii.

RESUMO

The exact solution of the proton-neutron isoscalar-isovector (T=0,1) pairing Hamiltonian with nondegenerate single-particle orbits and equal pairing strengths is presented for the first time. The Hamiltonian is a particular case of a family of integrable SO(8) Richardson-Gaudin models. The exact solution of the T=0,1 pairing Hamiltonian is reduced to a problem of 4 sets of coupled nonlinear equations that determine the spectral parameters of the complete set of eigenstates. The microscopic structure of individual eigenstates is analyzed in terms of evolution of the spectral parameters in the complex plane for a system of A=80 nucleons. The spectroscopic trends of the exact solutions are discussed in terms of generalized rotations in isospace.

RESUMO

Calculations of nuclear masses, using nuclear density functional theory, are presented for even-even nuclei spanning the nuclear chart. The resulting binding energy differences can be interpreted in terms of valence proton-neutron interactions. These are compared globally, regionally, and locally with empirical values. Overall, excellent agreement is obtained. Discrepancies highlight neglected degrees of freedom and can point to improved density functionals.

RESUMO

An extended mean-field model is presented that describes states of different isospin in odd-odd and even-even nuclei. Excitation energies of the T = 1 states in even-even as well as T = 0 and T = 1 states in odd-odd N = Z nuclei are calculated. It is shown that the structure of these states can be determined in a consistent manner when both isoscalar and isovector pairing collectivity as well as isospin projection (treated here within the isocranking approximation) are taken into account. In particular, in odd-odd N = Z nuclei, the interplay between quasiparticle excitations (relevant for the case of T = 0 states) and isorotations (relevant for the case of T = 1 states) explains the near degeneracy of these states.

RESUMO

The T = 2 excitations in even-even N = Z nuclei are calculated within the isospin cranked mean-field approach. The response of pairing correlations to rotation in isospace is investigated. Whereas the isovector pairing rather modestly modifies the single-particle moment of inertia in isospace, the isoscalar pairing strongly reduces its value. This reduction of the isomoments of inertia with respect to its rigid body value is a strong indicator of collective isoscalar pairing correlations. These results are further generalized yielding beautiful analogies between the role of isovector pairing for the case of spatial rotations and the role of isoscalar pairing for the case of isorotations.

RESUMO

The latest generation gamma-ray detection system, GAMMASPHERE, coupled with the Microball charged-particle detector, has made possible a new class of nuclear lifetime measurement. For the first time differential lifetime measurements free from common systematic errors for over 15 different nuclei ( >30 rotational bands in various isotopes of Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, and Sm) have been extracted at high spin within a single experiment. This comprehensive study establishes the effective single-particle transition quadrupole moments in the A approximately 135 light rare-earth region. Detailed comparisons are made with theoretical calculations using the self-consistent cranked mean-field theory which convincingly demonstrates the validity of the additivity of single-particle quadrupole moments in this mass region.
