RESUMO

Using [Ga(C6 H5 F)2 ](+) [Al(OR(F))4 ](-) (1) (R(F) =C(CF3)3) as starting material, we isolated bis- and tris-η(6) -coordinated gallium(I) arene complex salts of p-xylene (1,4-Me2 C6 H4), hexamethylbenzene (C6 Me6 ), diphenylethane (PhC2 H4 Ph), and m-terphenyl (1,3-Ph2 C6 H4): [Ga(1,4-Me2 C6 H4 )2.5 ](+) (2(+)), [Ga(C6 Me6 )2 ](+) (3(+)), [Ga(PhC2 H4 Ph)](+) (4(+)) and [(C6 H5 F)Ga(µ-1,3-Ph2 C6 H4)2 Ga(C6 H5 F)](2+) (5(2+)). 4(+) is the first structurally characterized ansa-like bent sandwich chelate of univalent gallium and 5(2+) the first binuclear gallium(I) complex without a Ga-Ga bond. Beyond confirming the structural findings by multinuclear NMR spectroscopic investigations and density functional calculations (RI-BP86/SV(P) level), [Ga(PhC2 H4 Ph)](+) [Al(OR(F))4](-) (4) and [(C6 H5 F)Ga(µ-1,3-Ph2 C6 H4)2 Ga(C6 H5 F)](2+) {[Al(OR(F) )4] (-)}2 (5), featuring ansa-arene ligands, were tested as catalysts for the synthesis of highly reactive polyisobutylene (HR-PIB). In comparison to the recently published 1 and the [Ga(1,3,5-Me3 C6 H3)2](+) [Al(OR(F))4](-) salt (6) (1,3,5-Me3 C6 H3 =mesitylene), 4 and 5 gave slightly reduced reactivities. This allowed for favorably increased polymerization temperatures of up to +15 °C, while yielding HR-PIB with high contents of terminal olefinic double bonds (α-contents=84-93 %), low molecular weights (Mn =1000-3000 g mol(-1)) and good monomer conversions (up to 83 % in two hours). While the chelate complexes delivered more favorable results than 1 and 6, the reaction kinetics resembled and thus concurred with the recently proposed coordinative polymerization mechanism.

Mass bleaching events and local anthropogenic influences have changed the benthic communities of many coral reefs with pronounced spatial differences that are linked to resilience patterns. The Gulf of Thailand is an under-investigated region with only few existing datasets containing long-term developments of coral reef communities using the same method at fixed sites. We thus analyzed benthic community data from seven reefs surrounding the island of Koh Phangan collected between 2014 and 2022. Findings revealed that the average live hard coral cover around Koh Phangan increased from 37% to 55% over the observation period, while turf algae cover decreased from 52% to 29%, indicating some recovery of local reefs. This corresponds to a mean increased rate of coral cover by 2.2% per year. The increase in live hard coral cover was mainly driven by plate-like corals, which quadrupled in proportion over the last decade from 7% to 28% while branching corals decreased in proportion from 9% to 2%. Furthermore, the hard coral genus richness increased, indicating an increased hard coral diversity. While in other reefs, increasing live hard coral cover is often attributed to fast-growing, branching coral species, considered more susceptible to bleaching and other disturbances, the reefs around Koh Phangan recovered mainly via growth of plate-like corals, particularly of the genus Montipora. Although plate-like morphologies are not necessarily more bleaching tolerant, they are important for supporting reef fish abundance and structural complexity on reefs, aiding reef recovery and sturdiness. Hence, our findings indicate that the intensity of local stressors around Kho Phangan allows reef recovery driven by some hard coral species.

RESUMO

Nonsense mutations constitute ~10% of TP53 mutations in cancer. They introduce a premature termination codon that gives rise to truncated p53 protein with impaired function. The aminoglycoside G418 can induce TP53 premature termination codon readthrough and thus increase cellular levels of full-length protein. Small molecule phthalimide derivatives that can enhance the readthrough activity of G418 have also been described. To determine whether readthrough enhancers exist among drugs that are already approved for use in humans, we tested seven antimalarial drugs for readthrough of the common R213X TP53 nonsense mutation in HDQ-P1 breast cancer cells. Mefloquine induced no TP53 readthrough activity as a single agent but it strongly potentiated readthrough by G418. The two enantiomers composing pharmaceutical mefloquine potentiated readthrough to similar levels in HDQ-P1 cells and also in SW900, NCI-H1688 and HCC1937 cancer cells with different TP53 nonsense mutations. Exposure to G418 and mefloquine increased p53 phosphorylation at Ser15 and P21 transcript levels following DNA damage, indicating p53 produced via readthrough was functional. Mefloquine does not appear to enhance readthrough via lysosomotropic effects as it did not significantly affect lysosomal pH, the cellular levels of G418 or its distribution in organellar or cytosolic fractions. The availability of a readthrough enhancer that is already approved for use in humans should facilitate study of the therapeutic potential of TP53 readthrough in preclinical cancer models.

RESUMO

Group 13 M(I) compounds often disproportionate into M(0) and M(III). Here, however, we show that the reaction of the M(I) salt of the weakly coordinating alkoxyaluminate [Ga(I)(C6H5F)2](+)[Al(OR(F))4](-) (R(F)=C(CF3)3) with 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) yields the paramagnetic and distorted octahedral [Ga(bipy)3](2+)(•){[Al(OR(F))4](-)}2 complex salt. While the latter appears to be a Ga(II) compound, both, EPR and DFT investigations assign a ligand-centred [Ga(III){(bipy)3}(•)](2+) radical dication. Surprisingly, the application of the heavier homologue [(I)n(I)(C6H5F)2](+)[Al(OR(F))4](-) leads to aggregation and formation of the homonuclear cationic triangular and rhombic [In3(bipy)6](3+), [In3(bipy)5](3+) and [In4(bipy)6](4+) metal atom clusters. Typically, such clusters are formed under strongly reductive conditions. Analysing the unexpected redox-neutral cationic cluster formation, DFT studies suggest a stepwise formation of the clusters, possibly via their triplet state and further investigations attribute the overall driving force of the reactions to the strong In-In bonds and the high lattice enthalpies of the resultant ligand stabilized [M3](3+){[Al(OR(F))4](-)}3 and [M4](4+){[Al(OR(F))4](-)}4 salts.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to identify person related factors for the utilization of inpatient and outpatient treatment in a crisis intervention unit. METHODS: Data from the central psychiatric patient record (PSYREC) of the canton of Zurich have been analyzed. RESULTS: Different factors are associated with the treatment modalities. The decisive factor for the choice of an outpatient treatment is employment. CONCLUSIONS: The facilitation of employment should be of major interest for treatment in social psychiatry, e. g. by supported employment methods.
