RESUMO

In many developing economies, high and increasing public debt profile constitutes an essential means of financial risk. An appropriate debt management is germane for survival of business and good international reputation though its effect on private sector credit mobilization had been seldomly investigated. This study seeks to know whether strategic debt management approach exacts a significant effect on the Nigerian private sector and Africa at large resulting to higher credit availability for sustainable enterprise establishment. The study used a time-series observation spanning from 1981-2021. The method of data analysis employed the unit root test for stationarity. Johansen cointegration and vector error correction approach. The result of the unit root test indicates the series were all stationary after first difference and thus were integrated of order1. The Johansen cointegration test support the existence of a cointegrating series between the private credit and its determinants. More empirical evidence from the study shows that proper debt management and increase revenue generation through net taxes on products accounted for 0.93 and 1.32% increase in private sector credit mobilization, while total external debt stock was responsible for a significant negative influence of 0.60% on private sector credit mobilization. The study recommends that the government should always be proactive in their strategic and innovative approach to debt management, revenue generation and sources of funds. This will help not only to avoid crowding out of the private sector but will enhance adequate credit mobilization for effective operations of the private sector.

This study investigates lean principles among Nigerian entrepreneurs and SME managers in the operational process in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. It offers the panacea to the challenge of social-economic shocks and their adverse effects on SMEs' business activities in Nigeria. The study adopts a conceptual approach to investigate lean entrepreneurship practice by SMEs in Nigeria. It relies on data from extant literature, using a conceptual approach to examine the social-economic effects of COVID-19 pandemic and critical environmental factors on the lean entrepreneurship practice in Nigeria. Furthermore, the study explores the influence of lean practice among SMEs and entrepreneurs in Nigeria and suggests a broad model for lean entrepreneurial practice in post-COVID-19 pandemic Nigeria. Findings highlight the broad social-economic effects of COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges such as theft, host community pressure, weak legal system, and inadequate government policy support affect lean entrepreneurship practice. These factors constitute complex operational issues that would require the adoption of a more comprehensive approach to address. It also highlights crucial factors for post-COVID-19 pandemic SMEs' operational success in Nigeria due to deficits in infrastructure and regulatory efficiency for SMEs' operations to address the various challenges of business failures in Nigeria. The study suggests a lean SME and Entrepreneurial Practice model in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era. It emphasises the need to refocus the active interest of the lean entrepreneur on critical business sustainability. The study recommends a critical review of the internal operational process among practicing entrepreneurial businesses and a re-modification of public policies system that governs the operational functions of entrepreneurial practices for reasonable and resilient post-COVID-19 pandemic entrepreneurship practices that can support the SMEs and economic growth in Nigeria.

RESUMO

This research investigates leadership practice in private organisations in Nigeria. It focuses on learning about the application of leadership styles to address operational complexities in organisations. The research is based on a case study of a commercial livestock farm in Nigeria using systemic intervention as the methodology. Data collection tools, such as a workshop, semi-structured interviews, boundary setting and participant observation, were applied. Key leadership issues identified in the case study were addressed via the creation of an effective approach from different leadership underpinnings. Part of the findings is the difficulty in sustaining the implementation of a particular leadership style(s) due to unstructured nature of complexities involved in the determination of suitable leadership style at different stages of the research. The research wrapped up with the suggestion for further research on systemic leadership intervention to consider exploring the public sector, as well as the need to further review on the use of CATWOE in the research process, to avoid the occurrence of marginalisation in its apllication.
